Ryan Hunts perfumer for Beach Geeza

Ryan Hunts is an exceptionally talented artisan perfumer who was recently featured in our CaFleureBon Profiles in American Perfumery Series. Before Steven reviews the brand-new Beach Geeza Pearl Leather, I asked Ryan about his inspiration for Beach Geeza Pearl Leather.

The creation o Beach Geeza Pearl Leather was the culmination of creating different accords over the years.  I came across a white musk molecule that I blended into an accord that created a clean animalic scent.  To my surprise it reminded me a Black Leather accord that I’d developed years earlier but this smelled like a white leather couch at a resort. I’d been doing some research into molecular distillation from Italian Lemons and ordered a sample. This material had a gourmand quality that was perfect for a Limoncello accord; Limoncello has a very emotional connection to me as my grandmother brought me back a bottle from Sorrento.

Using Limoncello as a note in this fragrance is a nod to my grandmother from that trip. Then I decided to add a watery ‘poolside/suntan oil’ aspect to the fragrance, I’d already spent a good portion of 2022 working on a watery suntan accord so I blended it with the White Leather accord.  After time working with these three accords and blending in some additional fixatives ‘Pearl Leather’ came to life”. -Ryan Hunts

PS: the shell motif on the bottle represents both a sunset and an oyster shell which hides a treasured pearl. -Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • Never heard of Beach Geeza until now. I like leather so I feel that Pearl Leather is the right fragrance to start with for the discovery of this house. Thanks!

  • Pearl Leather… the name of this makes me think of Hallucinogenic Pearl by A Lab on Fire, since that one has pearl imagery and a leather/suede note. This one seems to go in a very different direction though, so that is good, since I am not a fan of the former.
I enjoyed Steven comparing this to opening a vinyl record experience!
I like the discovery of the brand name from Ryan’s profile…” ‘That’s it! Beach Geeza!” haha!
    Thank you from Canada.

  • Hello from AZ! You had me when you said this cologne smells like fine leather!

Enjoyed learning that your Dad developed the Flowbee (I remember those infomercials well!) but also when you state your goal is “to create perfumes that smell like the ultimate beach vacation.”

  • First of all, I loved how Steven described Pearl Leather as a perfume that doesn’t stick to one identity or vibe, but is a shapeshifter between a citrus, fruity, leathery and amber/spicy frag. Also, the vinyl impression sounded very interesting.
For the double entry, I will also quote Ryan Hunts from the Profiles in american perfumery article: “the fragrance classics of tomorrow are being created today and a new generation of consumers will demand originality.” So true and so visionary!
    I live in the EU.
    Thanks!

  • The unique and fascinating notes of this fragrance spark my interest. I live in Poland, EU. I found this interesting — „That’s it! Beach Geeza”! I love the name.

  • Steven says while the fragrance’s theme is tropical, he does not get anything aquatic per se. It also has vinyl vibe and is a safe leather for formal and informal occasions. I am in US.

I really want to smell the scent of Beach Geeza Pearl Leather. Im a huge leather scent fan. So many leather scents are similiar but I think his background and “beachy” background can change the game. Also, live in Houston Texas. I thought when he his story was interesting the way he said “This was a revelation for me on the power of personal scent and sparked a lifelong journey for me to discover my own signature scent.” This too me was when he found his lifes purpose

I really want to smell the scent of Beach Geeza Pearl Leather. I’m a huge leather scent fan. So many leather scents are similiar but I think his journey and “beachy” background can change the game. Also, I have lived in Texas….Houston to be exact, and still reside here. I thought when he his story was interesting the way he said “This was a revelation for me on the power of personal scent and sparked a lifelong journey for me to discover my own signature scent.” This to me was when he found his life’s purpose.

  • This fragrance sounds like it’s right up my alley, huge fan of this house and excited to see what the keep putting out.

  • Great article, great review. I’m a big fan of Beach Geeza and Ryan’s work. He has very unique and interesting fragrances, and I’m sure Pearl Leather is no different. You wouldn’t think limoncello, vinyl and white leather would go together in a fragrance. One thing he said a couple of times in the article was “surrendering to the magic of happy accidents”. I wonder if any of those happy accidents were part of the making of Pearl Leather. Thanks from Canada.

  • This one sounds really interesting, been following them since 2018. Really excited to see how this house progresses through the years.

  • As a Tailor I’d like to say I love Ryan Hunts look on the first picture . He almost looks like Pierce Brosnan as Andrew “Andy” Osnard in “The Tailor of Panama”
I’m fascinated by the idea of the white leather accord he created, I’m so curious about Pearl Leather , and how the white leather, saffron and Limoncello are blended.
From Ryan’s path to perfumery i particularly like how how he’s looking for
“new generation of consumers will demand originality”
Like him , I like working with clients, who also look for originality, Ryan is making bespoke fragrances, and i make bespoke suits
Thank you Ryan, Michelyn and Steven

  • Great job by Steven, aka Redolessence here. It is great seeing more american master perfumers, and Ryan is someone so interesting. I found very interesting that he got inspired by his grandmother and how she gave him a Limoncello bottle from Sorrento.
I think the white leather note is very curious, and would love to smell this one.
    USA here.

  • Thanks for the video, Steven! I found it interesting that lemon and leather May create a tropical vibe- and it also sounds like just the thing to transition between summer and cooler weather.

I found how Ryan came across the name “Beach Geeza” for his brand very interesting and cute- randomly popping out of his mouth to immediate shouts of “that’s you, man!” from his friends.

Thank you for the review, writing from the EU.

  • Always looking for an intriguing fragrance. Leather is a note i really enjoy in fragrance. Saffron is great too. Steven gave a nod towards having an undertone of coconut. But no coconut in the fragrance line up. Intriguing indeed. This would be a great add to my collection!

  • George chorianopoulos says:

a very interesting mach of ingridients if im lucky i may be able to expirience your vision !!!

  • friend of my dad’s, who happened to be a truly masculine Man, had a scent about him that was very peculiar. It seemed like his natural smell, however, even the inside of his car had this distinct aroma. I remember the scent was not overbearing yet it was always noticeable in his presence and the Ladies would swoon who came around him, I had to know what this scent was. As it turns out, he wore Ralph Lauren Polo Green aftershave balm. This was a revelation for me on the power of personal scent and sparked a lifelong journey for me to discover my own signature scent. A wonderful memory to start this wonderful journey really enscapsulates the power of scent and memory. Limoncello, Watery Notes; Heart: Saffron, Vinyl, White Leather; Base: Amber, Vanilla, Castoreum, Tobacco, Woody Notes. I loved all the notes especially Saffron and Leather. Thanks a million from the UK

  • Limoncello, Watery Notes; Heart: Saffron, Vinyl, White Leather; Base: Amber, Vanilla, Castoreum, Tobacco, Woody Notes. I am fascinated by the notes and Ryans memory of dad’s best friends scent that really started his journey to find his signature scent. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • Zoran Loncarevic says:

Another great review Steven. The scent sounds great, but unfortunately it is very difficult to get hold of it here in Germany. So I couldn’t test a fragrance from Beach Geeza. I would be very happy to win here. Many thanks and greetings from Germany.

  • Wow, this fragrance sounds unique and amazing. It’s always a shame when I can experience this kinda of brands here in Milan. Beach Geeza is one of the brand I really want to test, but none here in Milan carries it. Was a pity!
Love the Italian inspiration behind it, and since I love the taste of limoncello probably I would love this one. I’m super interested in the combination of limoncello and white leather with vinilla and amber. Sounds promising!
    Greetings from Italy, Milan!

  • Sounds like the perfect holiday perfume! Reminiscent of summer even in the cold weather of these days.

  • Limoncello blended with white leather accord seems really interesting.
From Ryan’s path to perfumery I loved the revelation described by his dad’s friend and the introduction to the concept of a person’s natural scent.
    From EU.

  • Rebecca Zambetakis says:

Sounds beautiful, I would love to share this with my boyfriend….just starting our fragrance journey!

  • What sparked my interest was the history and details of the several accords used in this fragrance. From the Profile in American Perfumery essay, I remember Ryan holding the Flowbee. US

  • Love long lasting scents – and the notes on this one (to include the mystery coconut) sound right up my alley.

  • Yakob Tesfaselassie says:

I like that it’s way de parfum but I am also keen in knowing what percent is the concentration is other than that really enjoying his tropical beach approach to perfumes

  • Fruity, spicy, vanilla leather are a great combination. Steven described what I’m searching for. New Jersey, USA.

  • AdventurousFox says:

Love the “white leather couch at a resort” descriptor and a watery suntan accord attracts my attention, as well as the combination of limoncello and leather. Leather isn’t something I think of when I think beach or summer.

I’m a fan of amber in general, but am looking to add the soft vanillic amber to my collection, which mostly consists of heavy resinous amber accords.

Ryan’s life story is very interesting, especially the enterpreneurship stories, I wish the interview was even longer. Olfactory cortex is evolutionary one of the oldest parts of the brain and smell can trigger very strong emotion, especially smell memories. What I admire in perfumers is a talent (not to diminish the hard work) and the ability they have to turn their olfactory memories into beautiful perfumes the rest of us can enjoy. I’ve also noticed that olfactory memories from childhood, such as the mentioned smell of the Gulf and PNW, usually have a very special place for many perumers.

There’s so many perfume houses nowadays that I get lost in all of them, but beach geeza has caught my eye. It takes some thinking out of the box like Ryan to create an original concept in this day and age. I am registered here and subscribed to Steven’s channel. Greetings from Croatia, EU

  • At the end of the video, I like how how compares the fragrance to several other leathers and how they contrast across the spectrum of leather scents. He also states that this leather is pretty unique, which piqued my interest. The shell logo and lack of aquatic scent is an interesting take as well. I also appreciate the childhood memory that vinyl takes us to. Thank you. USA

  • Limoncello speaks of summer nights to me! Combined with white leather, watery notes, vinyl and tobacco notes, I feel like I’m infiltrating a Miami Vice episode. I like Steven’s description of the vinyl note and the comparison with records. It’s great that Ryan pays tribute to the memory of his grandmother and her bottle of limoncello from Sorrento. MD, USA.

  • I love limoncello. When I travelled through parts of Italy where its made and there was a perfume factory nearby, that really shaped me. I live in the EU

  • I like how Ryan Hunts took his time to perfect his life, and fragrances. It shows his level of dedication and self-expectation .
From Pearl Leather I’m expecting Piña Colada in a bottle, and to be caught in the rain by the smell
What strikes me the most is rather unusual mixture of gourmand, leather and vinyl notes.
From Ryan path to perfumery :
“fragrance classics of tomorrow are being created today and a new generation of consumers will demand originality.”
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Coming from entrepreneurial family, from a camera guy, to perfumer, such an amazing guy.
Ryan Hunts found his happy place I believe with perfumes.
His path story , and the current Pearl Leather both transported me “from the humid aromas of the Gulf Coast where we lived to the fresh piney sea breezes of the Pacific Northwest” (the quote)
I do believe Pearl Leather is sweet leather , a bit topical , with a seductive facets , a treat I’d love to win
    Thanks for the draw

  • I live in Utah USA and the thing that really interested me that Steve said was the white leather and vinyl note sound awesome. I like how Ryan basically invented the suck-cut from waynes world lol.

  • Very interesting perfume, with this never seen before “Limoncello” note. Being italian, this sparks my interest very much.
Steven’s review was thourough and rich in details as usual.

From Ryan profile on American Perfumeryessay “Over the coming weeks I ordered several samples of raw materials, pipettes, glass beakers, a scale and I started blending.”

  • Thanks for the great read Michelyn!

I’m very interested in Ryan’s creations after your glaring recommendations here on CaFleureBon. I haven’t come around to testing any of his creations, but your praise has not gone unnoticed and I look forward to trying his innovative fragrances.

It’s always great to see my favourite Youtuber highlighting a new fragrance. Steven has a perfect style of reviewing where I immediately know whether a fragrance is something I should try.

I loved reading Ryan’s Profile in American Perfumery. It’s very intresting to read how unconventional perfumers found their way into the industry.

Pearl Leather sound like another winner. Black leather doesn’t always suit me, but a softer and lighter white leather scent sounds very appealing to me and I can’t wait to test it!

    Greetings from the UK!

  • This sounds very interesting with the notes, especially the castoreum. I have never tried anything from this house, but have always wanted to. This is the first one that really caught my attention. Thanks for the draw. In the US.

  • Interesting sounding composition starting from limoncello (which I don’t remember seeing much in perfumes) added as an homage to his grandmother (which I find endearing), spices and sweet amber touches to leather accord with vinyl. Sounds like something I had to put my nose on and as I’m in Europe I’m keeping my fingers crossed I’m the lucky winner
I found it really cool how Ryan’s path led him to the garden next to beach in Bali. And that one of my favorite notes had a huge role to play in his inspiration and drive to recreate the wonderful vetiver-beach scent and make it his own.
    Greetings from Austria.

  • wandering_nose says:

I love how upbeat and smile’y Steven is in this review! His eyes clearly lit up when he started talking about Pearl Leather. Captivated by the notes! They reflect the unlimited creativity which seems to be Ryan Hunts’s signature. And the impressive longevity is a lovely bonus. Steven mentions the fragrance is diverse – that piques my interest even further. A tropical leather as Steven calls it – sounds like a delight to the nose. I am impressed by how Ryan incorporated the note distilled from Italian Lemons into his limoncello accord, making it a sentimental tribute to his grandmother and how he sees the white leather accord as a white leather couch at a resort. Thank you from the EU

  • I collect vinyl records so to hear that it’s in this fragrance made me excited. I don’t have any fragrances that have a vinyl note or smell so this would be a nice one for me. I love leather fragrances as well.

  • I like Steven’s description of Pearl Leather as a dark, tropical fragrance built on top of a “white leather” fantasy accord—that’s a totally different feel than any leather fragrance I’ve tried. He also pointed out how it combines a diverse array of ideas into one design; vinyl, sweet lemoncello, leather, dark vanilla, and tropical watery notes, interacting to suggest coconut at times. It was obvious from his review that Steven enjoys and was surprised by this fragrance—especially the unusual and striking note combinations—and it made me want to seek out a sample soon. Thanks for the review!

Beach Geeza is up at the top of my brands to try list. Ryan Hunt’s American Perfumery profile was a great read, and included that unexpected gem about the “Flowbee System,” as well as highlighting how world travel inspired his perfumery. His description of designing Pearl Leather was equally interesting; it sounds like he arrived at three discrete ideas that completed each other.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Jacob Savitt says:

Very intriguing and sounds like the limoncello note is very unique- curious about this one!

  • I have to admit that cafleurebon and Steven from his youtube channel helped me to enter the magic world of niche and more uncommon brands of perfumes that I would never had the chance to smell or even hear about. From the way Steven describes Pearl Leather I find interesting the fact that the perfume opens tropically and coconuty through the combination of limoncello and vanilla and then, 10 minutes after, the leather and spices comes out. The fusion of different elements makes it very irresistible. I am curious about the vibe of vinyl and how that smells. I wish to find out someday! Thanks from Greece, EU.

  • Regis Monkton says:

An example of why I want to try this fragrance is when Steven describes it as, in other words, a dark take on a tropical fragrance. I’m also interested in seeing what a fragrance from this company is like. I live in the U.S.A.

Quote from essay: “Then one Summer, I was introduced to the concept of a person’s signature scent. A friend of my dad’s, who happened to be a truly masculine Man, had a scent about him that was very peculiar. This was a revelation for me on the power of personal scent and sparked a lifelong journey for me to discover my own signature scent.”

  • Michael Prince says:

I’ve heard so many great things about the talented artisan perfumer Ryan Hunts his brand Beach Geeza and all his offerings to include Pearl Leather. I love how Steven describes this interesting fragrance with the unique Limoncello note which is a liquor I enjoy and a vinyl accord. It sounds like a unique mix of tropical notes and darker resinous and leathery notes. I loved reading Ryan’s Path to Perfumery moving from San Diego to South Padre Childhood and experiencing his first signature scent from his friend’s Dad Ralph Lauren Polo Green. After graduate school trip to Indonesia he was inspired to create his own fragrance brand Beech Geeza and make a fragrance based on all the beautiful smells he experienced there. I would love to try Beach Geeza Pearl Leather. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Impressive career for his age, again reading Ryan Hunts himself telling us how he started because of the quote requirement , was a pleasure. What he went through to get where he’s at right now, was so satisfying.
“That’s it! Beach Geeza! That’s you Man!”
Exactly the same thing happened with me, when I decided to name my bakery , and the quote from his path to perfumery
Because of the Steven review, Ryan own thoughts and the notes , i imagined making Lemon and Saffron Muffins, drizzled with Limoncello, and sharing them with friends while sitting on a leather couch on a pool party, and the DJ is jamming some groove music
Appreciate the introduction, Ryan thoughts , Steven’s review , and the giveaway campaign

Fantastic review Steven! What sparks my interest based on Steven’s review of Beach Geeza Pearl Leather is Steven’s description of the watery limoncello note combined with the vanilla, which creates a tropical feel that is very unusual in a leather fragrance. An upbeat, vivacious leather sounds like such an interesting combination and definitely like something my collection is missing! I definitely will make a point to try it. I live in the US.

I also found interesting from his creative process that opened the article this quote: “Limoncello has a very emotional connection to me as my grandmother brought me back a bottle from Sorrento. Using Limoncello as a note in this fragrance is a nod to my grandmother from that trip. ” I love learning about personal connections perfumers have to their perfumes and what memories of theirs particularly inspired a creation, so that quote definitely struck me.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review Steven.

I love how this fragrance has leather and spices to take it somewhere else from the standard tropical scents. Absolutely nice set of notes in the leather and limoncello and the brief is great.
