Beach Geeza Monkey’s Blood (Ryan Hunts) 2023 + Dark Cherry and Spice Giveaway

Beach Geeza Monkey's Blood

Beach Geeza Monkey’s Blood and Ryan Hunts for ÇaFleureBon©

Last week, Steven and I co-curated our Halloween video and chose yummy scented treats. Today we bring you a more mysterious, spooky scent with sweet touches- Beach Geeza Monkey’s Blood (bring on the blood orange and dark cherry).

Perfumer Ryan Hunts told me “The original idea in creating Monkey’s Blood was to do a scent that harkened back to the adventure movies of the 1980’ (like Indiana Jones Raider’s of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom) but as I began working on the fragrance it became much more than that. Two of the women who work for me really got into the spirit of the project and helped me with the creative direction of the notes which became something that anyone can wear yet also be appreciated by niche lovers and fragrance collectors alike. With materials like Nagarmotha from New Guinea and Dark Indonesian Patchouli Monkey’s Blood has a macabre essence to it that’s perfect for the Halloween season.  And I was “dead” set on getting Blood Orange and Dark Cherry into the top, it just seemed appropriate to include those two sweet, red smelling notes. Monkey’s Blood is one of those projects that was done for the sheer fun of it, no pressure, we just had a entertaining concept to monkey around with and it ended up smelling extraordinary. That is the Beach Geeza way”

Ryan Hunts in conversation with Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Notes: Top: Blood Orange, Dark Cherry; Heart: Saffron, Cider, Nagarmotha*, Spice; Base: Dark Patchouli, Benzoin, Tonka Bean

Editor’s Note: Nagarmotha has a dark vetiver/patchouli aroma that is earthy, smoky, and sweet.

Both Steven and Ryan mentioned cider and Nagarmotha, both of which are notes that I’ve never had the privilege of sampling in a scent. What an interesting gourmand!

I am very intrigued by this fragrance, I love that it has a dark cherry note, and love that there is creamy tonka bean in there too, that accord makes me think it might share some characteristics with one of my favorite fragrances, L’homme Ideal by guerlain which has tonka bean, almond, and citrus, anything cherry/almond is likely going to be a winner for me. I am so curious about what the blood orange in this fragrance would smell like with the cherry/tonka accord. Of course, the Indonesian patchouli in this scent is screaming my name, I absolutely adore patchouli, especially when it’s earthy as described in this fragrance, L’instant de Guerlain is my most worn fragrance, so I really LOVE patchouli. If everything I already mentioned wasn’t enough to get me excited, the saffron on top of it all has me daydreaming that this fragrance will come to me in my mail and I’ll get to spray it on my wrist and clavicle and experience it for myself, I fell in love with saffron long ago and love putting a few sprigs of it in a mug of hot water and watching the vivid yellow orange seep out of the stigmas into a beautiful aromatic tea, and I absolutely adore it in fragrances like Versace Pour Homme. Thank you for this opportunity to win a bottle, my fingers are crossed!

This is an interesting concept and very time appropriate for Halloween. I see how the name came about based on the story told by Ryan. This one does look like it’s gonna be very strong based on the spices and patchouli note. Michelyn mentioned in her recount with the perfumer that 2 women helped in the construction of the fragrance which adds to its sweetness. Now Steven mentioned this has some citrusy elements which based on the notes I would not have thought this would have. This one sounds very interesting regardless. Cheers from NJ, USA.

  • I am a huge fan of adventure movies and it’s so awesome trying to capture that in a bottle! Dark cherry and Blood orange in the top notes sounds so amazing. This was a good read, thank you. Would love to add this spooky scent to routine. I live in TX.

  • AromaDulce73 says:

Blood Orange and Dark Cherry combo sounds interesting. I like the fun approach taken to make this fragrance.

I like what Steven said that this would be great for the fall season with its dark, earthy, tarty & gloomy vibe. Sounds different from the other fragrances from this brand.

This would be my 1st bottle from Beach Geeza. A great addition to my collection.

  • bilal barut says:

Interesting combination. I’m really curious about how the cherry note blended into the notes listed in the heart and the base notes (especially nagarmotha). In general, the note cherry is not super interesting for me but I’m really interested in sampling this one, as I’m a huge fan of dark spicy fragrances.

  • patrick_348 says:

I really liked Steven’s characterizing this fragrance as both “macabre” and “gourmand.” I wonder if it will turn me into a zombie magnet.

  • What sparked my interest based on Steve’s review is how the fragrance deviates from the others he’s tried from the brand and its uniqueness. What interested me about Ryan Hunts introduction is when he mentioned materials like Nagarmotha from New Guinea and Dark Indonesian Patchouli used in Monkey’s Blood which create a macabre vibe that’s perfect for the Halloween season. Thank you for the opportunity. From New York, USA.

  • Beach Geeza’s new fragrance, “Bloody Monkey’s,” certainly piques curiosity with its intriguing name. The blend of beach vibes and the enigmatic allure of a “bloody monkey” makes it a scent one can’t help but want to experience. I’m eager to discover how this fragrance captures the essence of the notes described while adding a captivating twist.

  • From the intro I found out the original idea was to create something that hearkened back to the 1980s adventure movies. From the video I learned of the bright citrusy tendency in the opening. I see the draw closes in October 2024, I’ll be patient. US

  • I love darker scents; especially for Fall/Winter and the description of a tarter cherry with spice is right up my alley.

  • Lisa Binkman says:

Great video review Steven! I really love your interpretation of this fragrance and it sounds like you really have high regard for this house. Would love a spicy gourmand and saffron is such a fantastic note to pair with dark cherry.
I love Ryan’s inspiration by the 1980’s adventure films. Really fun.

  • I’m genuinely captivated by this fragrance. The dark cherry note has me enthralled, and the inclusion of creamy tonka bean only adds to my excitement. It reminds me of one of my all-time favorites, L’homme Ideal by Guerlain, with its delightful blend of tonka bean, almond, and citrus. Anything that combines cherry and almond is a surefire winner for me. I can’t help but wonder how the blood orange in this fragrance will interplay with the cherry/tonka accord.

And then there’s the Indonesian patchouli – a note that’s like music to my senses. I have a deep appreciation for patchouli, especially when it’s described as earthy, much like in this fragrance. L’Instant de Guerlain is my most worn fragrance, and it’s no secret that patchouli plays a significant role in my olfactory preferences. As if all of that wasn’t enough to stoke my enthusiasm, the addition of saffron takes it to the next level. I’m truly grateful for the chance to win a bottle of this fragrance, and I’m crossing my fingers in anticipation! Good luck for all from FL, USA

    Beach Geeza Monkeys Blood.
I love that its dark, earthy and gourmand quality in here. The blood orange also makes this more special.
The uniqueness in this fragrance makes me want to try it asap.
I hope I win this one.

  • This sounds like an ode to a beach Halloween celebration! The fruitiness of the blood orange, cider and cherry in combination with the saffron and spice makes me think of a spooky palm tree. Nagarmotha is an interesting addition and new to me. A dark. smoky yet sweet vetiver/patchouli seems like, a perfect support for the the brighter notes. I’m in the US.

  • Beech Geeza is a brand I’ve been curious to try for a long time. I love the idea of a unique, macabre gourmand. Thanks to Ryan Hunts and Redolessence for the evocative review!
    I’m in the US.

  • As a huge fan of Indiana Jones, I just love the story and inspiration behind this fragrance. It’s a fun and adventurous film franchise and deserves a fragrance that suits that mood. Ryan mentioned it having a macabre side to it, which I find intriguing. Steven doubled down on that description, adding that the patchouli and nagarmotha give it a dark and brooding edge. I really like the sound of the dark red fruits adding some tartness that I imagine works beautifully with the smoky and resinous tones. Sounds great for the cooler seasons ahead of us. Brest of luck to everyone. I live in NC, USA.

  • This sounds absolutely divine! It exudes an enchanting aura that’s tailor-made for the cozy embrace of fall and the crisp elegance of winter. I can’t help but adore the elucidation on the olfactory poetry of Nagarmotha – it adds an exquisite layer of appreciation to this fragrance experience! I want it for the name alone. New Jersey, USA

Anything bloody appeals to my Gothic sensibilities. Dreary and gloomy, such amazing words 🙂
Cherry and spices sounds enthralling and seductive.

  • Hello from Florida, and thank you to Steven, Ryan, and Michelyn for their thoughts on the perfume!

The combination of nagarmotha (a note you don’t encounter too often), blood orange, and cherry sounds intriguing — and very seasonally appropriate. I’d love to give Monkey’s Blood a try.

  • Beach Geeza Monkey’s Blood is one sophisticated fragrances, I have a feeling I’ll enjoy it a lot.
Ryan Hunts multicultural background gave him a different perspective towards fragrances, and life.
Monkey’s Blood is complex , different and exquisite. It’s inspired by movies like Indiana Jones , spicy , smoky and a bit sweet.
Beach Geeza Cocoa Moon EDP is tropical chocolate fragrance i sampled because of last year Cafleurebon video Steven made , I bought a bottle soon after
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA

  • The dark gourmand opening with a spicy heart that Steven talks about really excites me, along with the fun aspect of this perfumes design makes it a tantalizing Beach Geeza. In maryland.

  • Michelyn’s qoute from Ryan Hunts captures the fun concept behind Monkey’s Blood. Great idea trying to reference big ’80s adventure cinema with fragrance, and the choice of materials is intriguing. Stephen mentioned that the earthiness of this fragrance, largely from the patchouli, gives it a forest or jungle vibe; that’s really surprising for a fragrance that doesn’t appear to have a green cast, and I would have never expected that from the notes list. I was also happy to hear Monkey’s blood’s blood orange and cherry notes read as tart, versus sweetly gourmand. The spicy resinous heart and base are the most appealing parts to me. I’ve enjoyed many of the Beach Geeza fragrances I’ve sampled and Would love to try this.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Cool concept of the fragrance, love the color of the juice. I’m very curious what the “macabre” element of this fragrance smells like in person. I can’t draw any similarities to anything else. NYC

  • IvanVelikov says:

I like Ryan Hunts seeking for originality , like him I love working with clients, who also look for originality , Ryan is making bespoke fragrances, and i make bespoke suits
Monkey’s Blood is a complex, sensual and hypnotic scent. It’s spicy, sweet and fruity, but on the other hand also eathy and woody . Ryan in his conversation with Michelyn said the fragrance is perfect for the Halloween season, as a tailor I’m always dressed sharp, even at Halloween parties , no vampire costumes for me. Charcoal Gray and white pinstripe custom wool suit, made by me , using Zegna suit fabrics of course, is how I see myself wearing Monkey’s Blood
Thank you Michelyn, Steven, Ryan Hunts

  • Gourmands are hit or miss for me. I prefer mine to be dark and I also appreciate the earthy components in this one. I love the smell of cherry, despite not being a fan of the taste. I love saffron and herbal components to balance out the gourmand aspects. What excites me most about this fragrance is this cider note. I’ve lived in the Midwest for the majority of my life, so I LOVE going to the cider mill in the fall and getting a box of doughnuts and a few gallons of cider to go. I love the smell, and it is one of my favourite drinks. I live in the USA.

  • I remember that Ryan Hunts background is quite colorful, from entrepreneurial family, from a camera guy, to perfumer,I’m happy he finally found his happy place in perfumery.
Monkey’s Blood is special, inspired by Indiana Jones, appropriate for Halloween, dark and sexy at the same time. I like the contrast between the dark and earthy nagamota, lively blood orange, and sexy dark cherry , a treat I’d love to win.
    Thanks for the draw

  • Steven and Michelyn have left me very intrigued with their words on this perfume. The dark cherry, spices and blood orange combination seems like a great combination in theory, and your words back up that sentiment. I

Thank you the great review Steven!

I recently came across this fragrance in a discussion with a friend. I think it’s a fascinating fragrance because of the use of Nagarmontha and Dark Cherry. I like that is dark, brooding and earthy.

Monkey’s Blood really reminds me both of the Indiana Jones movi e and the old Monkey Island video game. The itroduction from Ryan was really nice and helpful in understanding the beginnings and direction of this fragrance.

I would love to try this scent and Coco Mon and Cocoa Moon.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I’m familiar with all Beach Geeza fragrances, excluding Monkey’s Blood , and if I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1. Cocoa Moon EDP
    2. Coco Moon EDP
    3. Bay Rum EDP
I’m curious if Michelyn and Steven are talking about the EDP or the EDT ? All Ryan Hunts fragrances do have EDP and EDT versions, at least prior to Monkey’s Blood , and there are noticeable differences between the two , it’s not just concentration and performance, the scent profiles are tweaked , similar , but definitely not the same.
In my opinion people should buy both sample sets , the EDP’s and EDT’s , and choose wisely.
I love the amalgamation between the fruity sweet blood oranges , dark cherries and the non-leathery saffron, Monkey’s Blood feels enigmatic and adventurous. Harrison Ford roles in Indiana Jones are one to remember, no wonder Ryan Hunts liked the adventurous spirit there.

“Editor’s Note: Nagarmotha has a dark vetiver/patchouli aroma that is earthy, smoky, and sweet.”

Good point, Nagarmotha essential oil aka Cypriol is very dry too.
All profiles I already follow, @waltherp99bg
    Thanks a lot

  • I never thought I’d see a fragrance related to Indiana Jones movies 🙂
Ryan Hunts conversation with Michelyn, and Steven’s take on Monkey’s Blood made me think of making and later on eating Saffron and Black Cherries Zuccottino , drinking cider, and enjoying Halloween , “for the sheer fun of it” fragrance experience.
Beach Geeza Coco Moon i own ,smells like Coconut and Pineapple Cake

  • Michael Prince says:

What sparks my interest based on Steven’s review and Ryan Hunt’s introduction of Beach Geeza Monkey’s Blood first is the unique and interesting name of the fragrance. With Halloween being around the corner and Ryan Hunt’s inspiration being Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Arc and Temple of Doom it’s starting to make sense though. I love the unique note breakdown of this fragrance. Most notably Cider and Nagarmotha. The way Steven described this one makes it sound even more intriguing, unique, and like something I would truly love. I am from the USA.
