Last week, a sample of AZMAN Naked Forest was included with my order from Indigo Perfumery. I have long admired creative director Husen Baba and his body of work – and I feel similarly about the fascinating compositions of Thai perfumer Prin Lomros. I immediately applied AZMAN Naked Forest and experienced a deep affinity towards it – which resulted in my desire to review it. One may admire and appreciate any number of perfumes without feeling compelled to wear them, but it is always preferable if you love them – and I do love this, so let’s begin!

There is a strong South Asian presence in AZMAN Naked Forest: its tendrils infiltrate this perfume on multiple levels – from the olfactive materials pressed into service to the backgrounds of both creative director and perfumer. Husen Baba was raised in Mumbai, a city from which the surrounding hills and mountains disclose a panoramic view; Prin Lomros’ native Thailand is no stranger to mountain ranges as well. Husen and Prin share familiarity with the charms of dense tropical forests and monsoon rains; the facets of sea, mountain, and sylvan air commingle in their collective memory. Naked Forest touches upon each of these aspects in an unforced, natural fashion which is exceptionally haunting.

AZMAN Naked Forest breathes anticipation of a high-altitude atmosphere replete with the salinity of the ocean, such as one finds with the Arabian Sea: a salt accord is wed to ambergris, and it is bracing. Black tea flourishes here, the Ceylon tea to which the given fragrance notes refer: tannic and leathery, the absolute sings with an arnica-like herbalcy, a touch of hay and smoke, lightly animalic in its drydown.  A symphony of precious woods provides a sumptuous alliance of contrasting elements – the silky texture of Australian and Mysore sandalwood, the potent smoky/leathery tones of nagarmotha (cypriol) and oud. Mango and amla (Indian gooseberry) are both sweet and tangy, tinged with sourness. Amla, which is utilized in many South Asian medicines, is a relative of the peanut and chickpea – and it possesses a pronounced sweet date/sweet tamarind-like aroma which augments Naked Forest’s exoticism. Tea-like magnolia is an intuitive fit; orris concrete and frankincense conspire to contribute their silver sacred character, so emblematic of the mystical mountain. Galbanum and vetiver are working pieces of the perfume puzzle; they exemplify the veracity of the forest with aromatic immediacy. Naturally, I cannot speak to the accords described as salt accord, green accord, or mountain air; every perfumer must preserve his secrets, and I respect that. What would a mystical mountain be if every element were revealed?

AZMAN Naked Forest is an extraordinary piece of work, shrouded in mystery: it is its own creature, as fully fleshed as one could hope for. Chameleon-like, it changes form and develops with a prismatic accuracy. Even if you can’t see your way to purchasing a full bottle, it is certainly worth sampling for the pure joy of the juice itself.

Notes: salt accord, orris concrete, green accord, Australian sandalwood, Mysore sandalwood, vetiver, frankincense, nagarmotha (aka cypriol), Indian gooseberry (aka amla), Ceylon tea, ambergris, oud, galbanum, magnolia, mango, mountain air

I see why this AZMAN creation was named Naked Forest, the notes and description Ida gave us details this. Specifically, this is a forest in which it rains a lot (salt accord, ambergris, mountain air accord) and the Australian/Mysore sandalwood gives us the geographic location of somewhere in Asia/Australia. The green accord accounts for the vegetation in the forest and mango one of the fruits present. Don’t be fooled, this is not a fruity fragrance. Rather, I see this is a complex fragrance ranging from green, salty, airy and the mango note is there to support the idea of a forest. Prin Lomros did his thing with this one. Cheers from the US.

This fragrance sounds incredibly relaxing and peaceful to me. The notes sound so interesting and I love your description of how they combine. I also find the combo of sea and mountain interesting and I love when a fragrance has an enigmatic note like mountain air. I have never smelled any Azman fragrances but now I feel as if I am really missing out. Thank you for the beautiful review and draw. From the US.

I find the review of this fragrance outstanding in describing the mountains, forest, and sea of southeast Asia and the resemblance to this scent. I wonder how prominent the tea note is here, having wanting to sip a cup after a long hike. I live in Oregon.

Salt, green, mountain and tea, precious woods and smoke. I think Azman Naked Forest is a treat. I live in the EU.

  • I have never tried an Azman perfume and I have never tried a Prin Lomros perfume, this would be a first and a real honor for me. Hussein Baba works with the best independent perfumers of our time to create incredible masterpieces, I have read so many articles about Risk, Two minutes after the kiss and Majnoon. I love woody green perfumes that evoke the tropical forest like Le sillage blanc (Dusita). I like the following passages: “Galbanum and vetiver are working pieces of the perfume puzzle; they exemplify the veracity of the forest with aromatic immediacy.” and: “Amla, which is utilized in many South Asian medicines, is a relative of the peanut and chickpea – and it possesses a pronounced sweet date/sweet tamarind-like aroma which increases Naked Forest’s exoticism.” because the scent of this fruit intrigues me. • Ida’s review of Azman’s Naked Forest is truly captivating! What intrigues me the most is how she describes the fragrance’s ability to transport you into an untouched wilderness, capturing the essence of nature’s raw beauty. The intricate blend of notes, including green accords, sandalwood, and exotic fruits like mango and Indian gooseberry, creates a vivid olfactory journey that seems both enchanting and mysterious. I haven’t tried Azman yet so I don’t really have a favourite. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • I love the sound of Naked Forest. Ida’s description of the saltiness and the tea-like nuances really speak to me. It sounds like such an original combination of notes – I would love the chance to try it! I’ve never had the chance to try any Azman perfumes but this seems like a great place to start. I’m in MN, USA.

  • AleksCipri says:

I really like Azman as a brand. I tried most releases except the last two including this one. I’m excited about this one as I am also a a huge fan of Prin’s work. I find these notes intriguing and I’m interested to experience the combination of salty and green notes. I feel like the touch of fruits and florals must round it up perfectly. I’m from Illinois US.

  • phuongmtran says:

I have not tried any Azman Perfumes yet, but Naked Forest sounds magical! All the notes make for a storybook journey through tropical forests and mountains. I would love to try it. I am in the USA.

  • It sounds as if there is a lot going on here. The greenness in the opening, the tea and fruits in the middle leading into the woods in the base. This is not a house that I’m familiar with and Ida’s review has me curious as to what this smells like and how the notes come together. Located in the US.

  • I have yet to try any AZMAN fragrances, but am starting to think I need to get some samples ASAP. Naked Forest sounds beautiful. As a guy who adores tea in both fragrances and beverage, I am most intrigued by the Ceylon tea note. Ida said it gives it a nice tannic and leathery tone, which I imagine works quite well with the nagarmotha and sandalwood. I also like the idea of the fruity tones juxtaposed against the deeper, woodier facets. Best of luck to all. I live in NC, USA.

  • Oh, wow, tea, smoke, hay? Forest AND Oceans AND Mountains? This sounds amazing! I live in the US and have not yet a favorite Azman scent.

  • Amla is entirely unfamiliar to me so I enjoyed rrading about this note and its significance in this fragrance. Desperate to try it! I’m new to the brand and in the US.

A beautiful description by Ida I am intrigued by the mysterious nature of this fragrance and cacaphony of notes has definitely piqued my interest. My favourite from Azman Two minutes after the kiss. Thanks a lot from the UK

This sounds like a mysterious shape shifting fragrance I am really fascinated by the notes especially Ceylon tea, Vetiver, Nagarmotha, Mountain air, Ambergris and Oud. This is a house that I have not got any experience but I am eager to explore further. Thanks a million from the UK

  • KleinJörg says:

Ida’s review of AZMAN Naked Forest is deeply evocative, painting a vivid picture of the intricate and exotic notes within the fragrance. The combination of unique elements like Indian gooseberry, Ceylon tea, and the intriguing “mountain air” accord creates a scent profile that seems both mystical and grounded in nature. This blend of South Asian influences and the idea of a high-altitude, ocean-kissed atmosphere is particularly captivating. My favorite from AZMAN has been Majnoon, but Naked Forest’s complexity and natural elegance definitely make me eager to experience it.

Ida, you always find a way to intrigue me with your in-depth reviews, that I find quite artistic…which draws me in yearning to learn more about the olfactive journey you provide. This article, is no different. I feel as if I were dropped off in the midst of a mysterious forest and left to experience all that it has to offer. It appears very complex. The sweet/fruity notes have captured my attention. However, I know that Hasan has a way of working magic with oud…and I would not expect anything different with this creation.
My favorite Azman fragrance is “I Am Darkness’..it is a very addictive scent for me 🙂

  • This one ticks so many boxes in my list of favourite notes and inspirations. Woods and tea – that’s me. I have yet to get to know an Azman scent, so let’s start with this one. I’d love to win this to Germany, thank you for the draw!

  • olgAPOISON says:

Looove this, the inspiration behind it. Mango and amergris and everything. I really want to realx and smell this. Im from eu.

  • I’ve yet to try any AZMAN perfumes, but I am familiar with the wonderful work of Prin Lomros and am a fan! I love the imagery of Naked Forest – a deep South Asian forest shrouded in mist and mystery, translated to scent. The scent notes, too, are right up my alley: precious woods, sweet and sour tea and fruit, precious ambergris! Suffice to say, I’d love to try this perfume! Best wishes from the US!

  • AromaDulce73 says:

Never heard about AZMAN until now. This sounds like an interesting fragrance to try. I like that it is not a linear fragrance. There seems to be a lot going on so I can imagine that NAKED FORREST will definitely take you on an interesting fragrance journey.

  • I’ve not yet had the pleasure of trying any Azman perfumes (yet another brand on my endless to-try list!) so don’t have a favourite. Looking at Ida’s review, this could easily be a future contender.

I’ve always been intrigued by Prin Lomros – another name I’ve seen a lot, but yet to experience his work. The distinction Ida makes between admiration and love of a scent definitely resonates – I’m certainly trying hard to limit my bottle purchases to absolute loves, and only after sampling first! I’ll certainly be taking on board the recommendation to sample this one. I struggle to imagine a whole when considering a complex list of isolated notes, but I was particularly struck by the description of this rendering “tropical forests and monsoon rains; the facets of sea, mountain, and sylvan air” in an “unforced, natural” way. I love a perfume that evokes natural environments, especially when I’m stuck inside at my desk all day – so this sounds wonderful.

  • WillRhodes says:

Thank you for the review Ida. Naked Forest sounds so beautiful and as I love any scent that tries to get in touch with nature, I find this especially interesting. The mountain air accord really stands out to me as well as Amla with its date like aroma. Really special fragrance here, I can tell!
    I’m in Chicago

  • It does sound like a very original mix of notes and I know from what I read online that Prin Lomros is very knowledgeable and creative when it comes to these types of perfumes, that lean a lot on what ‘niche’ should really be. Thanks!

  • Impressive. Thanks for the article and review. I’ll order a full bottle when my wallet is heavy. I cannot participate in the draw as I live in Pakistan.
    Love from Pakistan

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

I’m not familiar with the tropical forests and their smell, but if it is enriched with saltiness from the ocean, I think I’d love it more than I love the smell of our usual european forests :).
Naked Forest sounds amazing, I’d love to have the chance to sample it (heard only great things about Prin Lomros, but I’ve never smelled anything by him, sadly).

  • This perfume sounds very complex. I’ve never tried anything from the brand but Ida’s review made me intrigued! I imagine a mystical smell, full of nuances, depth and complexity. I’m based in the UK.

  • Ida’s review of AZMAN Naked Forest captivated me with its vivid description of the scent’s olfactive journey, from the bracing salt accord reminiscent of the Arabian Sea to the symphony of precious woods. The unique blend of ingredients like amla, nagarmotha, and frankincense, combined with the creative backgrounds of Husen Baba and Prin Lomros, paints a mesmerizing picture of the fragrance. As a resident of Nashville, TN, I am intrigued by how these elements come together to evoke the essence of a mystical mountain. My favorite from AZMAN is still to be discovered, and I am eager to explore more.

I live in Nashville, TN, USA.

  • Perfect name Naked Forest. The notes are complex which makes it more interesting. Ida does a wonderful job describing the outdoor notes. Thank you for this chance USA

  • The combination of the florals and unusual notes with ambergris and “mountain air” and verdant notes intrigue me.

  • Really see the inspiration behind Naked Forest shine through the notes within. The part that intrigues me the most (as well as the elephant in the room) is the green accord, salt accord, and mountain air that’s present in the notes list. Definitely an interesting way for the wearer to interpret it in their own way and leave room for ambiguity. Haven’t had a change to smell many AZMAN fragrances but risk was delightful so I’d have to choose that from the few I’ve tried.

If I go to perfume heaven I’d like to have a garden where each flower carries an Azman perfume at its core (my favorite is Two minutes after the kiss). I am totally smitten with their beauty on my skin.

Naked Forest is probably going to win my heart, as I do live somewhere where the salt from the ocean embraces the mountain air. Add tea-like magnolia and frankincense to the salt accord, and the green accord, and I’m in perfume heaven.

    Greetings from Sintra in Portugal

  • This brand has a great charm on me, Naked Forest is not something predictable, this fragrance escapes the complete description of each of its parts, it is the final result that identifies this perfume. It’s definitely an original perfume that I would like to try.

  • Danu Seith-Fyr says:

Fantastic, as with all the perfumes imagined By Husen and created by Prin Lomos. Its exotic nature weel versed here by our dear Ida. I would truly appreciate to experience this beauty, thank you. I live in SW France.

  • The notes of this fragrance are very different from my favoirite AZMAN perfume, Riad Yasmine, so I would love to try it!

  • I know I’m in good hands with Lomros and Azman! This sounds like my kind of fragrance… the black tea, magnolia, orris concrete and Mysore sandalwood… vetiver and mango… cypriol is actually a big love of mine too. I’m very excited to try this. I am in US and hope to win, thank you!

  • David Furman says:

This has a little bit of everything. I love orientals and this seems like it’s right up my alley. Woody, spicy and a touch anamalic is what I imagine. I love oud and I think it’s a solid base to rest on. The orris with that probably is a smooth, creamy, rich experience. This is most likely long lasting and from what I’ve read on azman they don’t slack on quality. Would love to win, from Jacksonville, NC.

  • I have a soft spot for forest-inspired fragrances. And this perfume includes two notes — magnolia and galbanum — that I love but that I’m not sure I’ve ever smelled together. Ida’s connecting the fragrance to its Asian roots further intrigues me. I live in Oklahoma, USA.

  • I’ve enjoyed some of Prin Lomros’s previous fragrances and AZMAN Naked Forest sounds like an excellent addition to his CV. This line of the review caught my attention: “Naked Forest touches upon each of these aspects in an unforced, natural fashion which is exceptionally haunting.” The salt, smoke, leather tones, and tangy-sour textures here sound considerably more varied and interesting than many green outdoor fragrances and suggest a more macro-level shot of mountain air. Would love to try it. I haven’t tried any AZMAN perfumes

I’m in the USA. Thanks to Indigo Perfumery!

  • I have several fragrances which I consider forest inspired, but they are all based on northern, alpine forest scents. I’ve never tried any tropical, South Asian forest fragrances before and this one sounds fascinating. The notes of tea, salt, amla and mango support the precious woods and the smoke and leather of the cypriol and oudh. Would love to experience it. MD, USA.

  • This is just one of those scents that I just know I would just be in my fragrance cabinet have to smell even if I don’t plan on putting it on. With those tea notes and that sandalwood it is already off to a good start in my books. Now what i’m really looking at is the Indian gooseberry note. That is a new one for me to see and I would definitely like to know how that mixes in with those woody notes. AZMAN is a house that is very new to me so this would be a great look into them.

  • zazazelle says:

Wow, what a breathtaking description! I feel attracted to exoticism of mountains and ocean, and to enigmatic notes as tea, magnolia, orris, frankinscense, Mysore sandalwood oud. But there is also amla, mango and mountain air! Prim Lomros is talanted artist, i like his creations a lot and this one sounds amazing. AZMAN is a new name to me, I haven’t tryed any of them before.
I live in the EU, please sign me for the draw.

  • The comprehensive breakdown of Naked Forest by Ida makes it sound like an olfactory adventure. I am particularly fascinated by the inclusion of Ceylon tea, which adds a tannic and leathery nuance to the fragrance, contrasting beautifully with the fruity and woody elements. Prin Lomros’s philosophy that “Each fragrance tells a unique story, capturing emotions and memories in a bottle” resonates with me, and I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds with each spritz of Naked Forest.

Thanks for the nice review Ida.

I love the idea of these two people coming together to create a fragrance that is unique in the perfume world. The concept of a fragrance that incorporates elements of the sea, mountains and dense tropical forests, with their bounties makes me want to try it.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen amla (sour, fruity) and mango (sweet fruity) in a fragrance before, so definitely going to try and sample this.

    Cheers from WI, USA

I really loves Ida’s description of the natural scene Naked Forest paints for her. The notes sounds very interesting and at the hand of Prin Lomros will definitely smell extraordinary.
I’m such a fan of Azman perfumes, Husen Baba really works with really adventurous Indie perfumers and let’s them create something truly special. My favourites from the brand are Killer Vavoom, Majnoon and Ryadh Jasmine. Marit UK

  • foreverscents says:

I love when perfumers make their own accords. Prin Lomros’ green, salt, and mountain air accords sound stunning. I apply alma oil to my hair every day, and it does indeed smell sweet and tangy, tinged with sourness. I would love to try Naked Forest, to remedy me of the wonderful times I spent in Thailand.
    I live in the USA.

  • I absolutely love walking through a forest during any season.Naked Forest has been added to my wishlist as soon as I heard about it. As a fan of both Azman and Prin Lomros, I thank you for this wonderful draw. The notes of Ambergris, Salt and Gooseberry sound appealing to me. MI USA

  • LightOfJoy says:

“What would a mystical mountain be if every element were revealed?” was my favorite line in the review. Thank you, Ida. I’m usually one who enjoys hearing what a perfume is composed of, whether it’s synthetics or naturals, to help paint a picture of what to expect. Ida has a way with words which makes the mystery more alluring.

I’ve not tried Azman perfumes, and I live in Texas, USA.

  • I have long been an admirer of Prin’s work. And when he partner with Husen I was very curious to see what the relationship would provide. I was overjoyed to experience Majnoon, which quickly became one of my most frequently worn fragrances. It is an absolute joy to wear, and I have had innumerable compliments whilst wearing it.

I am very excited to try their next composition together. Ida’s review has only further heightened my excitement, and described wonderfully the many surprises Naked Forest appears to have waiting to experience. Prin is a master of transporting us to far off mysterious fragrant locations, and hearing that this will whisk us off to South Asian has me very excited.
