Amouage Honour 43 Woman Review (Alexandra Carlin) 2021+An Exceptional Extrait draw

I can barely believe the original pair of Honour eau de parfums were released by Amouage over a decade ago in 2011, inspired by the famous Puccini opera, Madame Butterfly. I am not much of a fan of opera however, I am a true admirer of Honour Woman.  It is one of the first Amouage scents to grace my collection and has always held a place of “honor”.  When I learned that Honour 43 Woman was to be released as part of the Exceptional Extrait collection I knew, even before trying it, that I would have to find room for another Honour Woman on my shelf. Wearing Amouage Honour 43 Woman immediately takes back to my years in the Middle East but, for a completely different reason than with Epic 56 Exceptional Extrait which I previously reviewed.  This is not a journey along the old spice routes and through the back alleyways of the traditional Middle Eastern souks.  Honour 43 brings me straight to the famous Trader Vic’s Restaurant & Lounge.  Yes, the same Trader Vic’s originally founded in California back in 1944 and, as legend has it, where the original Mai Tai was invented.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, Trader Vic’s is extremely popular around the Middle East.  There are currently locations in several of the Gulf countries including Oman, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain.  They are just as you might expect from a brand that prides itself on being “paradise in a glass”, over the top, a little kitschy and so much fun!  Live bands play non-stop Salsa and Caribbean music, the bar is always full and the drinks are plentiful and delicious.  When you are at Trader Vic’s you can almost forget you are in the Middle East at all.

The same could be said about  Amouage Honour 43 Woman, at the start, you could be forgiven for not realizing that this is a fragrance from an Arabic brand.  Honour 43’s bouquet of big white floral notes (jasmine, tuberose and gardenia) is reminiscent of the scents in the Secret Garden Collection (Love Tuberose, Blossom Love, Lilac Love and Mimosa Love) but, much bigger and bolder. This is not a shy soliflore, Honour 43 is the equivalent to the band playing at full blast while bodies move to the beat of the reggae and Latin tunes.  It is potent rum drinks in oversized bowl-sized glasses topped with flowers, citrus fruits and the requisite paper umbrellas being mixed non-stop to satisfy the thirst of the growing crowd of revelers. The big (and I really mean HUGE) white floral notes take you straight to a tropical paradise where the heat and humidity mingle with the night blooming jasmine, creating a very sultry and sexy atmosphere.  As at Trader Vic’s, where the party goes on and on, a parallel universe of seemingly never ending hedonism, so goes the floral heart of   Amouage Honour 43 Woman.

Amouage Honour 43 Woman is an exceptional extrait

But just as you think you can’t dance another step or drink another Tiki Puka Puka the lights of the Tiki lounge are raised, shocking you back to reality.  Discarded flowers at the bottom of empty glasses start to wither as the bouncers usher you out into the night.  Could that possibly be the adhan, the call to prayer summoning Muslims to the mosque before sunrise, that you hear echoing in the distance?  Whispers of incense that have been lurking under the dominant florals suddenly become more prominent.  As you rest your head against the cool glass of the taxi window whisking you along the asphalt canal lined with gleaming skyscrapers that is Dubai’s famed Sheikh Zayed Road, you can’t help but smile at the scent of resins and spices mixing with smoky green vetiver reminding you that you are not really in Tahiti or the Caribbean but, a land where Tiki Lounges have their own special place of honor alongside the more traditional venues of the Middle East.

I have lost track of the number of people to whom I have suggested they buy Amouage Honour 43 Woman as a gift for a loved one or as a memento of their travels to the Middle East.  It is certainly not the most traditional Arabic scent but, it manages to seamlessly bridge the divide between East and West.  It reminds us that this truly is a global world in which we live.

  • With much regret, I have yet to try some thing from this house.
However, I dream. Even more so after this magically written review, to experience just a little of that magic for myself.
    Bravo ♥️

  • What a beautiful review! Amouage Honour woman 43 sounds romantic and a stunning scent. It has a hefty price tag so would love an opportunity to try before splurging on a full bottle. Thanks for showcasing Amouage Honour 43 and for your generosity! Based in the US

  • The amazing fragrance notes spark my interest, I never tried any Amouage Extraits, If I won I would pick Amouage Honour 43, I live in Poland, EU.

  • Amouage Honour woman 43 sounds perfect at this time as Valentine’s Day is approaching soon. From Rachel’s review, it seems to be a lovely perfume. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried any Amouage Extraits. Thanks for reviewing Amouage Honour 43 and for the generous draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Amouage Honour 43 sounds like a really fun, exuberant fragrance. The burst of white florals (with carnation, one of my favorites) in combination with the resinous spiced wood base is a force to be reckoned with. I’ve not tried any of the Extraits yet. I would probably choose Epic 56 since I’m most familiar with the original. MD, USA.

A beautiful description by Rachel I am intrigued by the notes especially Pepper, Coriander, Jasmine, Tuberose and Jasmine. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Rachel!! ❤️❤️ What a wonderful review! I love your description of Amouage Honour 43 Woman and Trader Vic’s! My first full bottle purchase from Amouage was the Honour 43 Woman extrait (along with their indulgent Honour Woman body wash). I’ve sampled all of the Amouage Exceptional Extraits, with Honour 43 & Epic 56 being favorites. No need to enter me in the draw, I just wanted to say how much enjoyed reading your review!!! ❤️
ps – your are so very generous! wow! someone will be very lucky!

  • A beautiful review by Rachel I am fascinated by the notes in Amouage Honour Woman mostly Rhubarb, Pepper and Coriander, Jasmine, Tuberose and Vetiver. Thanks a lot from the UK

I am a huge fan of Amouage, I discover 2 new brands each day and fall in love with single perfumes or entire lines but if you asked me which brand would you choose if you could just keep one, I’d say Amouage! I can still remember when my parents brought back from their trip to Oman a bottle of Ciel, purchased directly from the factory: I was soooo envious they could go and visit! My favourite one is probably Epic woman and – strange but true – I do not know Honour, so I would love to be able to sample the exceptional one – I have heard they are amazing and I do not find it hard to believe. Greetings from Italy

  • The union of east and west in a perfume. THIS IS VERY NICE.
I do not know the perfumes of AMOUAGE, I think the charm of this perfume is timeless.

  • Bridging the east/west divide is intriguing. And a huge burst of white flowers is something I’ve been craving lately. I would love to win a decant of Amouage Honour 43. I am in the US.

  • I own honour woman the original but was hesitating to buy but now I will definitely sample
    It’s such a fantastic perfume

  • Surely it is a splendid gift, precious and to wear on special occasions.
My girlfriend loves perfumes and Valentine’s Day is approaching .

  • I have yet to try anything from Amouage, but I really enjoyed reading here about the presence of Trader Vic’s in the middle east. I grew up exposed to kitsch tiki culture and will always have a soft spot for it. I used to love collecting little mermaids and umbrellas from everyone’s drinks as a kid. USA

Thank you Rachel for this lovely review, beaming with energy, opulence and life! I have tested a number of the female targeted creations from Amouage including Honour, Lyric and Jubilation, and am a happy owner of Memoir. I have grown to appreciate the deep and sultry incense aspects of all of them so the mention of incense lurking through the florals in Honour 43 Woman have instantly piqued my interest. Would be delighted to try this enticing beauty. Based in Ireland, EU

  • Honour 43 woman sounds like a great party perfume, even one that can make you party even if you’re all alone on a weekday evening. Great collages by the way!
    I’m in Eu

  • Well, what sparks my interest is that i absolutely love Honour Woman, the original one and I waited for this review a long time! 😀

Rachel wrote a great review, I can smell the fragrance through reading her impressions – it sounds absolutely beautiful! I smelled Epic Woman extrait and it was incredible, sadly I haven’t tried any others, but I am truly interested!

    I live in Croatia, EU.

  • The contrast Rachel draws between the Dubai nightlife and the solemnity of morning prayer, mirrored in the stages of Honour 43 intrigued me. I have not tried any of the Exceptional Extraits, but Honour 43 would be the one I would pick, as I adore white flowers and incense. I live in the US. Thanks for the lovely review and generous draw!

  • Rachel’s metaphoric description of Amouage Honour Woman puts one right in the middle of this fragrance. Although a bit too floral for my use, my wife does own the original formulation and wears it often in the warmer Texas months. I’d be interested to smell this extract formulation on my wife skin to discern the differences with the original.

Of the extracts, I own Interlude 43, a wonderful scent, and had I to pick another for my wearing it would be Reflection Man 45. For my wife, Epic Woman 56.

  • Since I am a world traveler and a latin dance fan, Ms. Rachel Watson’s review picked my imagination! I have decants (which I love) of Love tuberose, Lilac love and Blossom love and would love to try Honour extrait as well! Thank you!

  • Thanks God Amouage released the Exceptional Extrait collection because it is like fire. I love the normal Amoauge Honour and would love to win this one. I have tried the Amouage Reflection 45 and it has the power that the og needs. I love this review because this new fragrance adds some rum drinks.
If I win I would pick this Honour Woman 43.
    I live in the U.S.

  • I cannot believe I’m saying this but I have never had a chance to try any of Amouage perfumes. That is disadvantage of living in a small town. No niche perfumeries. But I’m citizen of the world and it sounds like Honour 43 is a mix between Middle East and the Caribbean and that makes it very interesting for me. I’m also salsa dancer myself, so I’d really enjoy the story about Trader Vic. I’d love to try both Epic 56 and Honour 43. I live in Poland, EU.

I haven’t tried any Amouage Extraits, as of yet, but I would
    like to try Epic 56.

  • Beautiful ❤️ and I am one of them white floral lovers, tuberose and jasmine. My favourite from Amouage being the magnificent Portrayal Woman. They definitely have a magic with flowers.

  • Amanda32828 says:

I’ll love to smell this one. Tuberouse is one of those notes that I have yet to become familiar with. I love the Top Notes but the Heart Notes: Jasmine, Gardenia, Lily of the Valley and Carnation are my most favorite notes. Thank you for the opportunity to participate, commenting from Orlando, Fl. USA

  • Rachel, thank you for putting Honour 43 into words. Amouage is a favorite house and Honour seems like a sister who moved away but is still an Omani girl at her core. The big white florals are exquisitely over the top and still Amouage. I have tried and loved the other extraits but not Honour 43 yet and would like to, even more so after your review. Thank you so much for your willingness to share! In USA

    Great writeup Rachel.

Your mention of Trader Vic’s sparked a memory of the the bar when I was in Oman and wondering why of all the places is there a Trader Vic’s there. It was a very popular haunt as well, with the expatriates.

I unfortuantely have not tried the extraits, but will be trying MEander soon!

I would love to win Interlude 53 or Reflection 45

    Cheers from WI, USA

Wonderful review Rachel! What sparks my interest about Rachel’s review is how she describes it as a “non-traditional” Middle Eastern fragrance, not quite what you’d expect from the wholly traditionally Arabic brand of Amouage. I love her description of it as opening with a big bold bouquet of white flowers – potent, intoxicating and tropical, sultry and sexy – that gives way to the more pungent, meditative, and traditionally Middle Eastern base of incense and spices. I am a big fan of contrasting notes and juxtaposition in fragrances and it makes me really intrigued to try this.

Amouage is one of my favorite houses and I’m proud to say I’ve tried decants of the majority of their fragrances – around 15 of them! – but I have yet to try any of the Extraits. If I were to win any one of those, I would love to pick the Epic 56 Extrait. But I would love to win this Honor Extrait as well. I live in the US.
