AMOUAGE Ashore Review (Mackenzie Reilly) + A Springtime Walk Draw

AMOUAGE Ashore from the Renaissance Collection

AMOUAGE Ashore opens like a photorealistic, sparkling spring morning with a gentle breeze breaking through chilly mists. Out for a walk, squinting at the sunrise, feet crunching through occasional remnants of melting snow, there is a heady mix of floral notes on the breeze, and an impression of lilac blooming somewhere out of sight, tantalizing and dewy. On this brisk and idyllic morning walk with Ashore, a dusty quality briefly joins the floral notes, like earth newly freed from snow and ice that has not yet absorbed any moisture. A glance up at the sky shows clouds rolling in behind the morning mists. There is a hushed rustle from bushes, trees, and plants hoping to redirect the coming rainfall towards parched roots beneath. The walker quickens the pace and looks for shelter as the air becomes charged with static, an electric current threading the mists.

Under the dilapidated overhang of a wooden shed, the walker ducks down to escape the coming rain. An early-blooming jasmine bush has taken root near the shed, its untrained, wild shoots twining around the warped beams. Droplets fall gently at first, maturing into a spring shower rather than a full storm. Any vestiges of snow are now melting into rivulets that mingle with the rainwater. Nearby jasmine blooms open silent maws to the sky as the rain sinks softly into the ground and the roots beneath.  As quickly as it started, the rain stops. The windows of the old shed are streaked with grime and old dust, but their leaded glass glows with a faint iridescence as the sun begins to peek through. The walker ducks under the dripping overhang of the shed and heads back out, observing that sunbeams have started to pierce the gray clouds and disperse the morning mists.

A rose bramble that has been pummeled slightly by the shower casts its intense and concentrated scent to mingle with the jasmine. As the walker passes the shed to return to the path, rose and jasmine indole are tempered by pink pepper, and the phantom lilac mocks sweetly, still just out of sight. AMOUAGE Ashore becomes a gentler floral mélange, soft pinks and dusky purples, a rain-swept bouquet—lovely and effervescent.

Ambergris growls gently like the distant thunderclap of a storm in retreat. Flora and fauna collectively catch their breath, wondering if the storm will return. Rain has shaken branches and stems, awakening buds and flowers to the promise of warmer days. The bark and sap of a broken branch smell of sandalwood, crackling under the tiny woodland feet of creatures that had sought shelter from the rain. Water begins to drip away, evaporating off damp clothing as puddles form on firmer ground. Dense rose fills the air, and AMOUAGE Ashore settles into the skin, a lingering watercolor of floral springtime.

Notes: Pink Pepper CO², Cardamom Oil, Turmeric Leaf Oil, Jasmine Sambac Absolute, Solar Accord, Rose Absolute, Ambergris Accord, Olibanum Hyperabsolute, Sandalwood Oil.

Disclosure: A bottle of Ashore was provided for this review. My opinions are my own.

  • The aspect of Dalya’s review that inspired my interest in Amouage’s Ashore was her description of the jasmine throughout. I am so intrigued by the jasmine and rain relationship she describes as well as the rosé and sandalwood elements that come into play.
    I am in Oregon, USA

  • Dalya’s amazing, detailed description got me very excited to smell this fragrance. Great review.

  • concertslover says:

Okay, so I’d love to win this particular one because I would love to know what solar sun notes are trapped in a fragrance. Thank you. USA

  • Pink and Fancy says:

What an amazing draw! I’ve smelled Ashore on paper before and it was the most beautiful, radiant jasmine I’ve laid my nose upon. Dalya’s review expresses the show-stopping nature of this jasmine from start to end, and merge with rose, the whole perfume becomes more than the sum of its parts.

Thanks again for the spectacular draw. I’m based in NYC.

  • There’s nothing like a good walk through rain showers. I enjoyed Dalya’s descriptive review of Ashore, especially how rain awakens buds to bloom. Thanks for another great article and generous draw! Mich USA

  • Ever since this collection was launcher Ashore was one of the perfumes I was interested in trying. I love Dalya’s taels the whole story to explain the transition of the notes. I like how she combines the image of blooming flowers, water droplets and retreating storm and old shed and broken branches. I’m form Illinois, US.

  • It was like I was with dahlia as she was caught in the woods during a spring thunderstorm.Ambergris and jasmine sounds great together too

  • Such a beautiful and poetic review!!
Storm of ambergris, whatercolory flowers, sandalwood, dens of roses.
I have heard so many interesting reviews about new Amouage perfumes, but have not tested.

  • A very evocative review by Dalya. I could easily picture the walk through the shoreline. I love jasmine and the way the rain changes the nature of the fragrance is special. It just sounds like a beautiful fragrance. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • AMOUAGE Ashore seems like a sparkling floral creation, with prominent rose and jasmine notes that has a warm drydown, thanks to warm woody notes like Sandalwood. The color of bottle does conjure images of a morning fog in a garden. I am in USA

  • One can certainly get the feel of this fragrance from Dalya’s description. Loved the review. I really want to try this. Many thanks to EUROPERFUMES for making this draw possible. I’m in the USA

  • I really enjoyed reading the review and picturing the images that the fragrance conjured for Dalya. Id love to experience the fragrance and see what images it conjures for me and if they are similar. Ive heard much more about the other perfumes from this collection than Ashore so appreciated learning about it and the chance to participate in this generous draw. Thanks so much, from CT USA.

  • Ashore sounds like a beautiful rain-soaked floral scent. As a person who has lived in very wet climates for most of their life, it was so easy to imagine myself inside of Dalya’s storytelling. I always love when the cold and wet finally gives way to glimmers of sun and the promise of warmth to come. Thank you for the generous draw, from Oregon, US.

Given that it’s a kind of gray winter, the aspect of Dalya’s review that appeals to me the most is the promise of SPRING. Give me rolling clouds and flowers and thawing snow please!
I’ve heard so much about this one (Persolaise’s review really piqued my interest) and I’ve met Mackenzie, who is super nice and I generally enjoy her work.
    In the US!

  • pimpompompam says:

If Dalya’s review was a song it would be “Easy”… easy like Sunday morning… lalalalala… Magic, and the bottle looks so soft too.

Thank you for another beautiful review.

  • What was so interesting from the review was the focus on jasmine that occurs in this fragrance. I also really liked the way that the interaction between the jasmine and rain was written. Florida.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

I loved the natural scene painted here in this review! The idea of a watercolor floral sounds up my alley, particularly one grounded by salty-subtle ambergris. I also love the sound of the opening-I am a sucker for rainy-green-floralcy as a way of conjuring a sense of place. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • I enjoyed Dalya’s description of a sparkling and breezy spring morning while being out on a walk with remnants of snow, a day of light rain ahead. This sets a wonderful stage for this jasmine-rich, ambergris-rich, woody fragrance with rose hints. I am in the DFW area. Thank you.

  • Wilson Chin says:

Oh, I love this description, sounds so peaceful and lovely! It’s been so long since I’ve gotten to get out of the city, and this scent sounds like a wonderful escape. I’m in NYC.

  • Always love amouage!!!
    one of my fav house!!!

“AMOUAGE Ashore opens like a photorealistic, sparkling spring morning with a gentle breeze breaking through chilly mists.” sound so good!

  • A lovely rainy springtime walk with wild jasmine is a romantic dream. Dalya’s review makes me want to live the dream. I am in the USA.

  • Dalya created a beautiful imagery in this review with a walker walking in cool springtime but with the signs and smells of approaching spring enriching his/her journey. It doesn’t seem too richly floral, but seems to be capturing late winter, or early spring well, with signs of hope after a dark and cold winter. The notes seem unusual, if I may say so (Pink Pepper CO², Cardamom Oil, Turmeric Leaf Oil, Jasmine Sambac Absolute, Solar Accord, Rose Absolute, Ambergris Accord, Olibanum Hyperabsolute, Sandalwood Oil). Beautiful bottle too. Would love to try Amouage Ashore for the interesting notes and the fact that I haven’t tried Amouage, yet. Thanks for the review and the draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Lillyhollowayblog says:

This review has me waiting impatiently for spring. Sounds like Dayla and Amouage Ashore are on a beautiful path to take us there. I live in the USA.

  • Dalya’s review makes this fragrance sound sparkling/happy and darkly mysterious. It definitely has me intrigued.

  • patrick_348 says:

I liked how Dalya used the smell of Ashore to create a mental image of a vivid scene. She showed the power of fragrance to paint a picture, as it were, of a place and time. I like how her description gave a sense of how the floral notes are balanced by other notes and accords. I am in the US, in NC.

  • I know Mackenzie Reilly , young perfumer with bright future.
Unique floral fragrance with jasmine, rose and sandalwood. Well hello Ashore , why I’ve not smelled you before? I need to get samples of all new Amouage fragrances.
I find their fragrances different. In my opinion you should never get any , without sampling first. Some do smell completely different on different people, when sprayed on skin. For example both Sunshine Men , and Reflection Man are two completely different scents on me , and on my husband. Sunshine Men is a gourmand on me , but on my hubby is dry , herbal and sour. You literally can’t tell we’re wearing the same fragrance !
I guess i’ll have to find out myself what I’ll get from Ashore . By the way favorite Amouage is Sunshine Men.
    Thanks for the generosity
    USA

  • Perfumer is new , but Ashore is a fragrance, straight out of Amouage annual book. Morning Mists photo well represents the fragrance, flora , fauna , jasmine, spices and sandalwood.
I wear Amouage fragrances for a long time, but I much prefer men’s versions , despite being a woman. To me Reflection Men > Reflection Women , Lyric Man>Lyric Women and so on.Own full bottles of Jubilation XXV – 100% unisex fragrance , Journey Woman -the only one on pair with men’s version, and a month back finished my 10ml decant of Lilac Love , and finally bought a bottle.
Thanks Cafleurebon for the time, and effort
    Cheers from VA

  • Thank you, Dalya for very beautiful and romantic review.
Melting snow, sunrise, mix of floral notes on the breeze (jasmine and rose), rain, sandalwood and ambergris- all this sounds very intrigued.

  • What was so interesting from the review was the focus on jasmine and floral notes that is in this fragrance. I also really liked the way that the floral notes were described in these review. Florida, US.

  • This sounds so beautiful! I love fragrances that include rose, but this also has several of my other favorite notes, like cardamom, sandalwood, ambergris, olibanum. I also love spring, and I’m ready for it. I live in the US. Thanks for doing this draw.

  • I definitely want to finally try an Amouage fragrance. I’m also wanting to try a fragrance that is made by perfumer Mackenzie Reilly. The combination of notes in this fragrance seem interesting and appealing to me. I’m also interested in trying this fragrance because Dalya called it a floral melange. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I first started following Mackenzie Reilly’s work when I smelled Hossegor by A Lab on Fire. It was the sea but the sea with all the roots and earth and trees and sky thrown in and I loved it. This one sounds like what I look for in the spring–buds, soil and rain. The word “watercolor” caught my eye: I love it when florals are painterly and less literal. In the US.

  • What was so interesting from the review was the focus on the jasmine note. It is usually hard for me to wear white florals but this one seemed different. I also really liked the way that the interaction of the jasmine with the other notes were described. Florida, US.

Thanks for the great review Dakya.

Amouage Ashore reminds me of my trips to Salalah during the Khareef, when you are surrounded by coole weather, lush greenery and heavy fog that soaks through everything.

I love how Dalya paints a picture of flower in rain.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • “A photorealistic, sparkling spring morning” really grabbed me. I also enjoyed her use of water throughout her review to bring out the mood and as the vehicle to draw out the scents: rain, snow, rivulets, puddles, mists–all very effectively give us a vivid picture. Thank you for the review & the draw. I’m curious to find out what direction this house is moving in…
    I’m in the US.

  • Oh wow! This sounds absolutely amazing from a girl who lived on a boat for 10 years! Thanks for the lovely review and draw! Im in Colorado USA

  • Michael Prince says:

What inspired my interest by Dalya of AMOUAGE Ashore is her beautifully detailed description of taking a walk and literally experiencing every facet of the beautifully created fragrance by Mackenzie Reilly. I am from Ohio USA.

  • This scent sounds very gentle and soothing, just like a walk on the beach. Calm is something we could all use this year. Thanks for the description and the draw. I like the words, “AMOUAGE Ashore settles into the skin, a lingering watercolor of floral springtime.” That is a very pretty description. USA

  • Dalya’s description of a walk on a spring morning captured my attention. I love that Ashore has a dusty quality along side the floral notes. How wonderful to discover a rose bramble and a jasmine bush, sprinkled with rain. Even if the lilac is a phantom, there is ambergris to suggest a distant thunderstorm. Such a beguiling portrait!
    I live in the USA.

  • The way Dalya really painted a picture with words describing every aspect of an early spring walk definitely pulled my imagination into this perfume. I’m drawn to jasmine so this is a very tempting fragrance for me. I live in the USA.

  • As someone from the Pacific Northwest, beautiful floral gardens enveloped in rainstorms paint a very familiar picture of spring for me. Between this and the image of the jasmine blooms opening themselves to the raining sky, this review has me utterly intrigued to try Ashore. I love Amouage fragrances and would be thrilled to give this one a try. I am in the US!
