Aether Arts Perfume Be Boulder Review (Amber Jobin) + Extra Courage for Hard Times Draw

Be Boulder

“The more you are motivated by love, the more fearless and free your action will be.”  ~ the Dalai Lama

It was lovely to receive a parcel from Art and Olfaction award-winning perfumer Amber Jobin recently. She has chosen to travel the aroma therapeutic route: an all-botanical perfume inspired by her home city of Boulder, Colorado – lauded for its natural beauty and upbeat entrepreneurial spirit. I don’t know if she realized in early-ish March just how prophetic her choice would be, considering that her goal was to create a fragrance which conveyed positivity. It feels intuitive to pass this on to you at this time, dear readers. To quote Amber: “Wear Be Boulder when you need a little spring in your step and a bit of extra courage!” … That time is now.

Aether Art Perfume Be Boulder review

Conscious Human Energy via bibliotecapleyades.net

A recipe for well-being? One can play it many ways, but the tonicity of a citrus bouquet is one sure-fire opening act. Amber tackles it with gusto and a lavish assortment including bergamot, sparkling yuzu and a luscious Persian lime. There’s just enough black pepper to heighten the senses and add the smidgen of dryness which accompanies this spice. The heart of Be Boulder is simply lovely, particularly because I’m mad for the materials themselves – and they speak to Amber’s love of creative juxtaposition. Her Rose is one which forces that involuntary sigh of content, and to weave it into jammy, fruity fir absolute is pure pleasure, quickened by the freshly-rubbed-green-leafiness of tomato (think Sisley’s Eau de Campagne) and the perfumer’s stealthy sliding a little cannabis into the mix (Oh, Boulder!). Desert sage is sweet and musky with herbal/floral terpenic tones; the flowering tops contain up to 75% linalyl acetate – so pivotally soothing.

Blue Spruce from Colorado

Grounding oneself can be achieved with a cushion of delicately smoky amber and conifers: enter the sweet, balsamic Ponderosa pine and Colorado’s native blue spruce – resinous and radiantly woody. The warmth of Texas cedar blends with the incense-like nature of Virginia; West Indian amyris‘s soft sandalwood character provides balance and a rounding effect. Fossilized amber differs from other materials; it’s leathery and smoky, resinous and redolent of pine tar. Amber has employed it skillfully and scantily so as not to overwhelm her composition –  and just enough for gravitas’ sake. Be Boulder positions you in the present without a heavy hand; it’s lovable and so comfortable to wear. We have demands enough in our lives right now.

Notes: black pepper, bergamot, yuzu, petitgrain, Persian lime, desert sage, fir absolute, tomato leaf absolute, rose, cannabisColorado blue spruce, Ponderosa pine, Texas cedar, Virginia cedar, amyris, fossilized amber

Sample provided by Amber Jobin: it’s marvelous, thank you!  My nose is my own…

  • Without repeating the entire description here, Ida’s description of Be Boulder as having a recipe for well-being intrigues me. I have not tried an all botanical perfume before, would love to check this one out. In terms of what gives me courage – while every crisis is different, the fact that I am still standing after several difficult situations in the past gives me confidence that this too shall pass. Regards from the USA.

Another marvelous review by Ida. I never get tired of reading her reviews. It sounds as though Amber has caught the atmosphere of Boulder so well. I’m not sure what gives me courage during these times, except perhaps family and our love of one another. I’m in the USA

  • I like that it sounds unique and interesting. Thank you to all of the courageous caregivers. ♡♡♡♡♡ Mich USA

  • It sounds like a fresh, green, zesty fragrance. Although we’re on lockdown, wearing scents like these make me look forward to things getting back to normal-ish. Something I can also look forward to enjoying in the summer months if we can be out by then.
I’m young, so I’m not really worried about myself. But I’m also thinking of the work and sacrifice of people who are working directly on this crisis, which is encouraging.
Im in the US. thanks for the draw

  • I love Ambre note.
Middle notes “ open your heart Accord “ yay!

    Ida’s reviews always fascinates me.

What gives me courage during these times is seeing the courage of other people, the health care workers and policemen and grocery store workers who are now risking their lives to serve others. I like Ida’s detailed description of how each of the notes–top, middle and base–fits Amber Jobin’s more poetic description of them as lifting, opening, and grounded. Good writing! I live in North Carolina in the US.

  • This perfume sounds amazing. What’s not to like about citrus, pine, and resin. Even more so since the sourcing of the scents is so particular. I live in NY. It’s been interesting during this unique period of time we all share. Looking for things to appreciate is important right now. Focus on the good things; you will find them if you are looking for them. Thanks for the opportunity to try this perfume.

  • This fragrance sounds like a masterpiece. It seems like everything was extremely well thought out, and the goal of the fragrance is lovely. Though the times have been tough as of late, this fragrance sounds like it truly will lift the spirits (personally, I have been lighting candles to calm the nerves through this time).
    Regards from Illinois

  • I like the idea of structuring top, middle, and base notes to a certain feeling. The descriptions sounds very woodlands-y, which is soothing at a time like this. I don’t know that I have courage, but I’m just trying to live one day at a time. USA

I am so looking forward to visiting Boulder as soon as this crisis is over. That’s what gives me courage: dreams of visiting cool USA cities. And my parents. My Dad had to figure out Zoom to work online. Yuzu and black pepper sound so up-lifting.

Timely indeed! What a wonderful way to be inspiring to us all! I love the note structure…am curious to know how pine notes can be jammy. Bouquets with Amber. There’s a strength in here that I like. A strength that is also calming!

What helps me through these times is both looking at the news to see what’s going on, as well as not looking at the news too much and choosing something else, like my ongoing side study of perfumery. It’s the best of both worlds, really.

Thanks for this amazing draw! Very much appreciated! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • A little spring in the step, little boosts of courage and positivity are exactly what we all need at this time. I am in Kansas. Seeing kindness in the world is what gives me courage.

  • I love the part of the article that says Live, Love and Laugh. I think Ida describes the fragrance “Be Boulder positions you in the present without a heavy hand; it’s lovable and so comfortable to wear. We have demands enough in our lives right now.” Laughter and talking to friends and family gives me courage at this time. I know I will hug them someday and this will end. Stay well, from California.

Seeing the use of tomato leaf in this fragrance made me jump. The scent is very unique and rubbing against the leaves of my tomato plants in summer always releases that scent, making me feel grounded in whatever I am doing at that moment.

  • Margarita K says:

A fragrance to give us extra courage – just what we need these days.
I imagine it smells like the nature, like the woods in Colorado, with some added depth of rose and sparkle of citrus.
The love of my family keeps me sane and brave. I’m grateful that my daughter is staying with us, in Indiana, instead of her beloved New York so I don’t have to worry about her every time I get the news.
It will be over soon, stay strong.

  • Boulder is a great place Colorado is a beautiful state. I have great memories of Colorado and I recall taking one deep breath after another when we were in the forest because the smell of the spruce trees was so magnificent. I’m grounding myself lately by putting just a touch of fragrance on my chin under my mask as I go to work. I never thought that would be a place to put it….
Thanks for the review & the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I liked Ida description of Be Boulder as well being and being composed of all botanical ingredients. What gives me courage is the instructions and mentoring I received in clinicals as a nurse. Thanks for the draw. I live in CA, USA.

  • Ida’s review comes at a time when we all need something or someone to lift us up; take our minds to a new pleasant place whilst still living in this tragic reality. Thank you. From Houston TX with love..
