Abel Odor Pause (Frances Shoemack and Dr. Fanny Grau) 2022 + Moments of Grace Giveaway

Abel Odor Pause

Abel Odor Pause, Fabriek – Wellington NZ, Frances Shoemack and Danu – Danu Seith-Fyr 2022

‘A wise woman wishes to be no one’s enemy; A wise woman refuses to be anyone’s victim’– Maya Angelou

“Mimosa, the hero ingredient, is a comforting, mesmerizing scent which to me really represents strength and beauty.” – Fanny Grau, Perfumer.

No stranger to the work of founder and fellow New Zealander, Frances Shoemack and perfumer Dr. Fanny Grau, it was a pleasure once again to explore their new additions to the Abel Odor Collection. They encompass along with New Zealand perfumer Isaac Sinclair that rare combination of authentic direction, sustainable and ethical practice and amazing perfume creation.  Frances and Fanny have already collaborated on Nurture, a perfume that was created to accompany pregnant and new mothers in a supportive and nurturing way.

Abel Odor Pause is the newest 2022 release in its highly evocative packaging it is designed to be a support for that other great change in a woman’s life, the peri-menopause, a little spoken of time when that wild side that has been so occupied with partnerships, career, the birthing and raising of children gives itself a little (or a lot freer rein).  In our modern culture when so much has been bought into the open forum, still this process that defines the second half of a woman’s life is rarely explored, a certain taboo still exists and it can be a time of great confusion and uncertainty.  Frances and Fanny wished to craft a perfume that would not only highlight but be an aid to well-being at this crucial junction. They throw wide open the windows of a time when women begin to be overlooked and invisible, in Pause giving a tool of confidence and harmony.

For most women there is the feeling of a roller coaster ride as we freewheel through a panoply of emotions, feeling out of control, wilder fires raging within and searching for a new rhythm to step to, welcoming in a new aspect of self. Abel Odor Pause is crafted with an eye and a nose to the beneficial aspects of the emotional wellbeing of a woman in this stage of life. Listed amongst its components are Violet a mood stabilizer, Mimosa for its hormonal balancing aspects, Narcissus a promoter of deep sleep and Hay an inducer of tranquility.

Abel Odor Pause Perfume is all natural

Etched deeply within its lines of experience, Abel Odor Pause immediately draws me close, pulling me back inwards from the scattering of pieces that have been flung to the four winds of my life and its demands, bergamot and verbena with great clarity fling open the doors back to myself, a mirror in which to regard the beauty of time passing and to appreciate the wisdom written there.  I find myself viewing a prodigal returning, lost previously to the living of life and care of others, all the pieces seem to gather themselves back to me, to find again the essence of who I am and will be. A glorious mimosa so delicate and solar yet with a capacity to encompass and comfort dedicates itself to an intricacy of gracefulness wrought with age. Entwined with the violet leaf and narcissus, it is a shaft of sunlight sundering a storm laden sky, Pause breaks through the disequilibrium to restore and gift gentle reprieve.

Beauty in Aging – Danu Seith-Fyr 2022

There is the sensation of great stillness written within Abel Odor Pause, a stillness that generates a profound calm, a moment alone on an empty beach with the sound of gentle winds and waves upon the shoreline, a moment deep in an uninhabited forest with just leaf-song for company, a moment of rediscovery of the one who existed before the busyness of living, yet crafted with so much more experience.

The subtle heated solar influence continues with a hay absolute, warming and soporific reminiscent of long days that never end where there is nothing to do except just be, no demands, no time expectations, no others to ask of you, incredibly nurturing.  Its combining with a cedarwood that is present yet not overpowering, a delicacy with strength, gifting it an immovable quality that hints at the possibility that one can always access this calmer state, it is never truly diminished, highlighted by the copaiba balsam and Amyris.

Abel Odor Pause is true to its name, it gifts time and calm, surrounds with a mantle of gentle reassurance and shines out with a call, a hope, a wish that this long-maligned period in the life of womankind be valued for all that age brings to us and that it signifies a beginning and not an end.  I wholly congratulate Frances and Fanny for taking this leap of faith and gifting their sisters such beauty and hope.

  • First time hearing of Narcissus and the other floral ingredients. The bottle looks very nice aesthetically and makes me wonder how the perfume itself smells. Really like how they ethically source all their ingredients too. From TX, USA.

  • The unique and beautifully composed notes of this fragrance appealed to me. This perfume sounds like something really harmonical and natural. All of these interesting things about this masterpiece for sure appealed to me. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • What an important inspiration for a perfume. As many of us are having children later, we find ourselves in the throws of wild changes while still very much caring for others. We need to hit the pause button now more than ever. This fragrance sounds like the perfect peaceful accompaniment. in TX

  • Love the inspiration behind the fragrance. I have never heard of this line and love that they focus on natural. Mimosa, violet and hay are amongst my favorite notes so this could be mynext favorite. Thank you for the introduction to the line! I live in the US

  • I so would love to try this. Sounds so calming and a wonderful fragrance to have in my collection for the new year. Violet being a mood stabilizer is an interesting take and I can’t help but agree. Mimosa for its hormonal balancing aspects sounds like something a woman needs in her collection. From Ct USA

  • I had no idea those lovely notes had such restorative properties. I just know they smell good. I am a post menopausal, recently empty nester, still working my career and have no plans to slow down or be cast aside!! Only good things are in my future! I feel women are more fortunate now than generations past……only through previous generations hardships and wisdom. Thank you. And thanks to Frances and Franny for the beauty and hope!! Usa.

  • Ooof I’m loving the women in fragrance! And it seems my favorites come from women who use all natural ingredients. This one was literally made for me, due to being a woman of my age. But also I happen to love amyris, violet, cedar and combine that with a gorgeous floral, calming hay and mimosa as a hormone balancer and voila…I’m so ready!!
Thank you for the opportunity to try this deserving house for the first time!!

  • what appeals to me is how the description is so gentle and easy going and I feel this is how this fragrance is. Danu speaks on how it gifts time and calm and that just sounds so good to me

  • This sounds like the ideal fragrance to gift to my girlfriend. Love this brand’s commitment to sustainability – as well as the extra info on each note origin. There seems to be an airy vegetal quality about this one given the hay, violet leaf, and carrot seed oil coupled with a citrus opening and cedar backing. Would really love to win this! Shipping to Pittsburgh, PA, USA

  • What a well thought out composition from women supporting women in their time of conflicting emotions and reducing hormones. Coupled with the fact of sustainability and gifts from nature I applaud their efforts. I have been trying to buy their sample set which seems to be sold out at the moment. Living in Australia makes it difficult at times to experience a lot of exemplary perfumes. Thank you for highlighting this house with an informative and enjoyable read. I would love to add this perfume to my fragrant journey of scents. I live in Australia.

  • Love abel as a brand i have test all the line and even though is a natural brand the fragrances are very persistent and unique but wearable and elegant. My favorite is nuterne and pink iris and also puase which I haven’t the chance to try sound really good. Greetings from Italy Milan

  • I like that the focus of the review is on the therapeutical benefits of the essential oils and that’s very rare and very nice, because most of the perfumes are made with synthetic ingredients with no benefits. We all know that perfume is mostly worn to smell nice, but some of us wear it for the experience and let smell take us on a journey. Combined with a natural perfume, this is therapy for the brain!!
Would love to be able to experience this and actually anything from the house.
    I’m in the EU.

  • Danu’s review is a beautiful ode to womanhood and finding gentleness. I’m interested in the bergamot and verbana notes which seem to bring solar clarity to the blend. Based in the UK.

  • Just like another commenter, I stopped at this:
“They throw wide open the windows of a time when women begin to be overlooked and invisible, in Pause giving a tool of confidence and harmony”.
Not hurrying to get there too fast, but guess what – I’ve already started having discussions about this moment of life with my friends. We are getting there fast… would love a positive spin to this, a lovely perfume to give me a Pause 🙂 and a sense of starting something new.

  • All of the notes speak to me of peace and tranquility. Thank you for the opportunity to experience Pause. Mich USA

  • Great welcome by Danu in making such a great review.
To me Abel Odor Pause, based on the review, is a great fragrance for a pause and calm and enjoy sorroundings that is so much needed. I love Mimosa so much and I think I would love this amazing fragrance. I hope I get my nose on it soon.

  • I’ll never not support a 100 percent natural perfume houses. I much appreciate that they tell us from where all the ingredients come. The stillness described in the smell of the perfume really intrigue me, and I would love to win it.

  • Calm in a bottle. A chance to jump off the rollercoaster and experience calm, through a beautiful fragrance. Bergamot is one of my favourites and I am interested in smelling it with the hay and cedar. Live in USA (but currently visiting New Zealand).

  • That is so thoughtful, coming up with a perfume for perimenopausal women! Indeed, the composition sounds wonderful, calming and enveloping like a warm, friendly hug. Therapeutic and gracious.
    I live in the EU.

  • Even though the perfume Abel Odor Pause is designed with women in mind, the description by Danu indicates Abel Odor Pause could as well be used or enjoyed by men. Who doesn’t need a little pause in their lives? I don’t have any experience with this brand, but the review of Abel Odor Pause makes me want to check it out. Thanks for the draw and review. I am in continental USA.

  • As a woman of a certain age currently experiencing this phase of life, I’m certainly interested in Pause. The notes sound feminine and calming. I’m a fan of both mimosa and narcissus. I didn’t realize they had aromatherapy properties as well. I appreciate that all their ingredients are derived from natural sources. MD, USA.

  • A fragrance that brings a sense of calm and stillness is just what most of us need in our lives. We are so busy, so crazy and focused and always running. What a lovely idea! I live in the US.

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

This is new to me – a fragrance destined to women getting acquainted to their new self, heading towards the unknown of the (peri-meno) Pause. The notes sound delightful and since I’m (ahem) one of the women Pause was created for, I’d really love to try it (apart from the fact that sometimes, a ‘pause ‘ from alienish concepts is much welcomed). Living in EU.

  • I like cedarwood especially when is not overpowering. Sounds a really peaceful frangrance. I would like to have the opportunity to experience it. From EU.

  • The notes in this perfume sound so beautiful, such a mix of uplifting and soothing elements. This time in a woman’s life is definitely not focused on enough, and this perfume seems like it would be a lovely aid to slowing down, reflecting, and making decisions on new directions to go at this turning point. I would love to try it! I live in the U.S.

  • sephrenia300 says:

Lovely review Danu! What appeals to me about Abel Odor, Pause is the idea of a fragrance that both celebrates and is designed to be a support for one of the great changes in a woman’s life that is rarely talked about and considered taboo and hush-hush. What a lovely idea and generous spirit! it definitely makes me very curious about the perfume. I live in the US.

  • Nikolina_84 says:

I find it really interesting that Frances and Fanny wished to craft a perfume that would not only highlight but be an aid to well-being in a great change in woman’s life, the peri-menopause. What appeals to me in Danu’s review is the claim “There is the sensation of great stillness written within Abel Odor Pause, a stillness that generates a profound calm.”

    Hello from Croatia, EU.

  • This is a really interesting concept for a perfume. Women’s health issues are rarely discussed as often or as freely as they should be, at least in my local culture, and art has always been a space with more willingness to explore these topics. And of course, why not perfume? The logic and symbolism behind this note list is compelling: “Violet a mood stabilizer, Mimosa for its hormonal balancing aspects, Narcissus a promoter of deep sleep and Hay an inducer of tranquility.” Those also happen so smell wonderful and dynamic in a blend. (Hay absolute is one of my absolute favorite additions to a fragrance.) I don’t think I have a grasp of what Mimosa smells like in isolation; I should make a point of trying a few fragrances that utilize it and see if I can pick it out. Anyway, Abel Odor Pause is an impressive natural design built around a thoughtful concept. I hope it’s a big success for the perfumer and my wife and I would love to try it. Thanks for the coverage, Danu.

    I’m in the midwest, USA.

  • Danu describes this so perfectly that no other words are necessary: There is the sensation of great stillness written within Abel Odor Pause, a stillness that generates a profound calm, a moment alone on an empty beach with the sound of gentle winds and waves upon the shoreline, a moment deep in an uninhabited forest with just leaf-song for company, a moment of rediscovery of the one who existed before the busyness of living, yet crafted with so much more experience.

What appeals to me about Abel Odor Pause based on Danu’s review is learning about founder and fellow New Zealander, Frances Shoemack and perfumer Dr. Fanny Grau. This fragrance is about Menopause, the second part of a woman’s life. I loved Danu’s detailed review about this amazing fragrance. I am from the USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the great review Danu. I think the most fascinating thing about this review was the focus of the fragrance on peri menopause.

I loved the selection of these notes – healing, supportive, comforting, showing a new light on a big upcoming changes.

The brief was truly wonderful to read.

I am interested in trying this fragrance for multiple reasons, e.g. I can like mimosa in fragrances, I’ve been intrigued by this company for a while now, I like that they put the country of origin for their ingredients, and other reasons. Also I like this: “A Note From the Brand- All our ingredients are derived from natural sources. We guarantee fair-trade and sustainable farming practices.” I live in MD, U.S.A.
