Artisan perfumer Stephen Dirkes of Euphorium Brooklyn and Tal Shpantzer, award winning photographer have been partners in love and life since they first met in Prague on a photo shoot for a major ad campaign where Tal was the photographer and Stephen the musical composer.

Fast forward to 2006, both Tal and Stephen reconnect in Brooklyn and for the past 10 years continue to work closely together.  Euphorium Brooklyn has a diverse portfolio of mostly dark experimental earthy scents, but  the classic style  of  Pétales was Tal’s muse for her upcoming Exhibition Petal Portraits.

Stephen’s approach from the onset to Pétales was always to create a total composition as opposed to  the more traditional top, mid and base notes; Tal’s cluster of images embodies  the concept for the  perfume.  Her work for this series features diverse women with different flowers in their mouths, and her photographs blends both stylized and stripped down portraits.  To express Tal’s concept through movement, dancer Vangeline will perform a solo Butoh, a contemporary avant-garde dance form which originated in Japan.

“Tal Shpantzer’s study of the aesthetic of femininity in her Petal Portraits inspired me to explore a floral fragrance that was abstract, from stem to petal.  Attracted to the dark, mysterious aspect of individual images in conjunction with her photography informed my ideas for the accords that went into creating Pétales Eau de Parfum.” Stephen Dirkes, perfumer

  • Tal’s interpretation of Pétales is so hauntingly beautiful, I find it very hard to describe. Pétales also happens to be my favorite Euphorium Brooklyn fragrance, the note list is incredible and the scent very transporting.
I’m not sure if Tal has a Dahlia in her photographs but I would love to see one. Thank you for the giveaway, I live in the U.S. And have also liked the EB FB page.

  • Flowers photographed in their most erotic form. These are beautiful. Wish I could see the exhibit!

I would love to try this in person, as I’ve heard only great things about this line. Thanks for the lovely draw! I’m in the US, and have liked the EB page. 🙂

  • Wow, those photographs are stunning. I’d love to see the Disa orchid in this series – they are so beautiful and I think this style of photography would really make them stand out. I love that Tal really focuses on the flower’s intrinsic beauty, rather than focusing on some idealised idea of what a perfume should smell like. It’s lovely. I’ve never had the opportunity to try a fragrance from Euphorium Brooklyn, but I’d love to and those bottles are particularly divine. Thanks for the draw, I’m in the US and I’ve liked the Euphorium Brooklyn FB page!

  • These photos are beautiful but leave me with a melancholy feeling. I guess the purpose of art is to make you feel something. I would love to see a trail of wisteria in this photo concept. I have never tried a fragrance from Euphorium Brooklyn. I am happy to learn about the inspiration for this newest perfume.USA

  • Tal went for abstract approach in creating the perfumes, taking the inspiration from the pictures. In addition, he also tried to capture the essence of the pictures by taking an approach that shuns traditional approach of top, middle, heart notes etc. It is as if he wanted to say traditional approach is like a film in which perfume slowly reveals itself while he wanted the perfume to be like a whole picture from the very first moment. Liked the FB page of Euphorium Brooklyn. Thanks a lot for the draw. I am in the US.

  • The photos are beautiful and so is the concept!! I would love to see either Dahlia’s, Rothschild’s Orchids, or Juliet Roses represented in Tal’s future pictures. I have’t tried anything from this line yet and am dying to do so as I’ve only heard great things. I wish that I could see the Petal Portraits Collection in person. I live in the US and have liked the FB page. Thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • The photography is stunning, absolutely mesmerizing, and leaves me even more intrigued to try the scent. I have yet to experience any of Euphorium Brooklyn’s perfumes but I have been dying to. If Pėtales is anything as beautiful as Tal’s pictures I’m sure I’ll be blown away when I finally get the chance! Thank you for this opportunity. I am in the US.

  • The photography is amazing it makes the fragrance look very intriguing. I have not tried any of Euphorium Brooklyn fragrances yet. A flower I would love to see in the series is Peonies.

  • Wow! I read Pam’s review and was completely bewitched by her description. I love one of the last things she wrote ” It stole my breath and left me mute in its wake.”. I’m incredibly intrigued by the review and the photography. I’m so curious to try out the fragrance, yet, somehow frightened by what it will smell like and the impression it will make on my psyche!
Thanks for the draw. I follow Euphorium Brooklyn on Facebook. I live in the U.S.

I am drawn to shapes, shadows & lines in photography and I was entranced by how Tal’s images captured all of it. I was especially intrigued by the one of a seed germinating, which on second glance, I saw as a clam opening its shell.

Definitely think that Tacca chantrieri (also known as black batflower, devil flower, or cat’s whiskers) would make an awesome addition. Not only is black a very unusual color in flowers, but the shape of the flower with its long dangling whiskers is dark and gothic.

I also think that Amorphophallus titanium (aka the corpse flower or “Mr. Stinky”) has some pretty bizarre looking shapes and I would find it rather humorous to see a perfume house honoring a flower that smells like rotting carrion! In fact, all of the carnivorous plants in general, the Venus fly traps & pitcher plants, look like they came from an alien planet. I can almost see a series dedicated to “Flowers blooming black as night, removing color from your sight, all will rot and decompose,
for something wicked this way grows.” Thanks for the draw – USA reader

  • I love the milkweed photos – they are wonderful against the dark background. Petales sounds intriguing.

  • minteacup says:

I I can never have enough flowers. The black backgrounds and dusky lighting acts as the perfect foil for the flowers. I would like to see photos of dahlias in this style, or really any other flower with dense blooms. If the perfume captures some of that high contrast and dusky feel, I’m intrigued. I’m in the US, thanks for the draw.

  • JazzBelle says:

Flowers are one of nature’s most glorious creations! Flowers represent love and I love the story of how Tal and Stephen met!

Tal’s interpretation of Petales is gorgeous, haunting, unforgettable! I love the notes in Petales and this is a perfume I would love to experience since I have yet to try anything from Euphorium Brooklyn.

I’d love to see the dahlia represented as I love this gorgeous flower. I also love gardenias.

I live in the USA and have liked the Euphorium Brooklyn FB page. Thank you!

  • I would like to try “one of the most bizarre, dark, animalic and compelling florals I’ve ever sampled”. The flower I would love to see in this series is a gladiolus, my favorite flower. I have not yet had the pleasure of wearing an Euphorium Brooklyn Perfume.
