Tanja Bochnig

There is little doubt by now Tanja Bochnig of April Aromatics, chosen as our Best Natural Perfumer of 2014, is a creative powerhouse. On the heels of Erdenstern, Tanja has returned to a set aside formula- one which would evolve into Tempted Muse.

Pomona by Nicholas Fouche Goddess of Orchard Fruit

Tempted Muse is a rare creature in the botanical perfume world- fruit scents are somewhat hard to come by, usually the product of a talented perfumer's accord building process or the pain-staking, large production prohibitive tincturing which can take months of diligence. Tanja has created a fruit accord which goes beyond simple citrus and well into the mythical realm of the culinary habits of the Greek gods. Whether it was to drink or eat, ambrosia and nectar were the preferred food for your average deity and it is this sense of immortality and divine perfection which Tempted Muse bestows.

Hésiode et la Muse - 1891 gustav moreau

Hésiode et la Muse – 1891 Gustav Moreau

A gauze-like offering of fruits, candied and sugar powdered with no trace of tinctured rawness, Tanja blends this fruit ambrosia with floral nectars of precious, angelic essences- the color of frangipani itself. Tuberose and the heavenly coupling of rose and jasmine finish the petaled perfecta. Fitting for a goddess and accented by flits of pink grapefruit, the fruit accord does not quite reveal its melange, although somewhat jammy at times and others a orchard in bloom. The result is powerfully innocent and subtly intimate.  A diaphanous anise mingles with sandalwood and vanilla- the poof of a cloud cherubim rest upon and so does Tempted Muse.

This base accord is gourmand in the way a delicious almond pastry is; delicate and not for the rush of sugar- but for the sensation of taste. Were it not for obvious associations with Olympian food- I might think this was the perfume of the “visions of sugar-plums” which dance annually in some children's heads.

The whole of the perfume is dreamy and cumulus cloud covered- floral spun fruited candy floss. Although Tempted Muse does not contain the honey usually associated with ambrosia or nectar, it's fruit accord strikes a similarity to propolis, and makes a strong connection between the food/perfume of the gods and Tanja's homage to the muses which prepared them. Tempted Muse is a wonderful way to try a natural perfume, completely approachable and unique to the point of pause.

Notes: frangipani, tuberose, jasmine, rose, tonka, sandalwood, ylang ylang, pink grapefruit, vanilla, anise, and a special fruit accord

  • I love the notes in this, and how Tanja created this scent to remind us of the sweetness in life! My favorite April Aromatics Perfume has to be San Francisco Rose. I would one to win Tempted Muse!
I live in the US. Thanks for the great review and draw!

  • Everything about this sounds divine. I have several of Tanja’s scents and adore them all. I live in the U.S. Thanks much for the draw!!

  • This sounds wonderful! Just delicious. I would love to try Tempted Muse! I love the fact that it is natural as well. I have not been lucky enough to try any of Tanja’s scents. I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • The notes of Tempted Muse do look really yummy. I loooove grapefruit, tuberose and sandalwood as notes, and I can imagine how these all play together quite beautifully. I have San Francisco Rose, but unfortunately it’s not the best fit for me. Of the few April Aromatics that I’ve tried, Ray of Light is my favorite, though I’ve heard many great things about Unter den Linden and I’d love to try that one as well. Thanks for the generous draw, I’m in the US!

  • Sophisticated fruity fragrances always pique my curiosity. Unter den Linden is the only thing I’ve sampled from April Aromatics so far, but I’d love to try more! I’m in the US. Thanks, and go Seahawks!

  • Beautiful sounding notes frangipani, tuberose, jasmine, rose, tonka, sandalwood, ylang ylang, pink grapefruit, vanilla, anise, and a special fruit accord. Tanja does fragrances so well and they tend to be unique and very addictive. One of my favorites is Liquid Dreams. Would love to be entered please and thank you. US here.

  • Tempted Muse sounds delicious, a miracle, like something that one longs to taste while it lies just out of reach. Jasmine, rose, ylang ylang and more, all these are so appealing. I don’t have a favorite from April Aromatics, but this could be “the one.” Thank you for the lovely review and generous draw.

I feel curious because at first it seemed this is a fruit and resin accord in the style of Lutens Arabie but upon further reading, this seems a different creation altogether. this review comes at a good time since Erdenstern’s sample is on the way to me

  • It’s amazing that Tanja can blend fruits using naturals and the notes sound absolutely amazing! One of my favorite April Aromatics scent is Unter den Linden but truly all of her scents are masterpieces.

  • The whole idea sounds amazing and knowing how talented Tanja is i know for sure that this creation is amazing as well. And the word dreamy well i hope that i can try this one. I have two April Aromatics the San Francisco Rose that my wife uses and mine is Bohemian Spice. I live in the US.

What appeals to me about this – absolutely everything. I want this to be dripping from me…..it sounds absolutely heavenly and magical. Tanja must have had such a rush of inspiration and creativity to come up with this nectar. Sugar Plums dance away. As I have mentioned before, I am in love with San Francisco Rose so this will be another divine juice to wear, I am positively sure. I am in the US. Would be delighted to experience this. 🙂

  • I can’t imagine this perfume from the notes, but I’d love to try it because of the tuberose and anise. I’m a big fan of Tanja’s ‘Unter den Linden’, which is the only one of her perfumes I’ve tried.

  • rivercitylizzy says:

I think the combination of sugar-dusted fruits, sweet florals, and almond paste would smell as divine as I imagine it tasting–like a platter of li-hing & licorice-powdered crack seed, rose and orange-blossom-scented Turkish Delight, and marzipan. Heavenly indeed!

I am in the US and thanks to Tanja for the draw!

  • You only have to mention the word Ambrosia, and I’m all ears and drooling. This perfume sounds absolutely delicious. I would love to try it.
    The packaging is beautiful btw.

  • This sounds like a great fruity floral with a gourmand base. I’ve never had a chance to try anything from April Aromatics so it’ll be interesting to try this one.

    Thanks for the draw.

  • Ylang ylang is a note that I discovered I liked very much when I started becoming more involved in the fragrance world. I kinda but it in the back-burner as I started exploring more and have started to revisit recently. I would love to see how Tanja uses it in this composition.

My favorite AA is San Francisco Rose.

I am in the US. Thanks for the draw.

  • If this perfume could possibly tame my sugar rush in the afternoon, I would stock up with 2-3 bottles!
I am a fan of Calling All Angels – not a surprise, isn’t it! But I also love Ray of Light, which didn’t get as much attention as Erdenstern.
I am in Bulgaria (EU). Thank you for the chance!

  • This perfume sounds so scrumptious and beautiful! I love white florals with gourmand accents. I’ve never tried any perfumes by April Aromatics. I’m in the US. Thanks!

Thank you Tanja and ÇaFleureBon for this lovely draw.

Aside from the magical notes, the exclusivity and rareness of this scent appeals to me. I have not yet had the pleasure of wearing an April Aromatics Perfume.

  • Laura Matheson says:

I have read so many wonderful things and have wanted to try this house for some time now. I love naturals and tend to stick to them exclusively. It would be such an honour to win this extremely limited perfume that has had so much effort poured into it. Thanks for the opportunity

  • Simply I own nothing like this. I love the various fruits and floral blended together in this fragrance. Many of my favorite notes. I truely love Ray of Light and Calling all Angels. Beauties. In the USA. Thanks for the opprotunity.

  • What appeals to me is how it’s like an almond pastry – that sounds just heavenly. I don’t have an April Aromatics favorite as I haven’t yet had a chance to try any. Would love to try this one! Thanks for the chance (I live in the US).

  • I am very “tempted’ by the gourmand base (almond pastry) of Tempted Muse. It sounds delicious and may have to grab a nice sweet pastry after dinner tonight. The only fragrance I’ve tried of Tanja’s was the one with Linden blossom (Unter Den Linden) which has a fantastic linden blossom note that sparkles. If you haven’t tried, please do if you love linden blossom. I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw. My finger are crossed and I hope I win.

  • Tempted Muse sounds positively dreamy. My favorite April Aromatics thus far is Calling All Angels. I’m in the US, thanks.
