There are some perfumers whose work you truly ‘’take personal’’ – and their art becomes inexorably woven into the fabric of your life – scented triggers of dear memories. For me, Nathalie Feisthauer of Lab Scent  is exactly this kind of perfumer, the invisible composer behind the fragrant soundtrack of many, many defining moments of my life. Her creations are my olfactive timestamps, marking joy, nostalgia, discovery – and every emotion in between – for the past thirty years of my life.

One of the stories from this wonderful perfume world that stayed with me and still moves me to this day is Nathalie Feisthauer and her fragrant awakening. She often recounts the day she discovered Opium at the age of sixteen, freshly arrived in Paris. A self-described tomboy, with no interest in dresses or fancy girly things, wandered into a perfume boutique… and the second she smelled Opium –  her world changed. One of the perfumes that marked my own fragrance awakening is Versace Blonde. To this day, I vividly remember the pale blue oval bottle, tucked into its velvety blue pouch, and the very first moment I smelled it. It wasn’t even mine! -it belonged to my best friend’s mom. After school, we’d sneak into her closet, carefully applying just a few precious drops on our wrists. We were both tomboys, yet something about that scent shifted something of our perspective. We couldn’t believe something could smell so grown-up, so feminine, so utterly… beautiful. I was smitten. And I even contemplated becoming a blonde…

And so many followed, too many to count – the incredible freshness of Balmain Vent Vert, my mothers floral of choice (that I often stole): Oriflame’s Giordani Gold, the milky perfume that was decades ahead of its time – Diesel Plus Plus Feminine, the legendary uber-feminine that needs no introduction Putain des Palaces from Etat Libre d’Orange and the summer staple – Eau des Merveilles from Hermes. Nathalie Feisthauer is also the creator of some of my favorite scents of recent years too, with the ethereal Puredistance Papilio, the innovative Der Duft Privilege, the comforting  Zoologist Cow, the fluffy Mono Cachemere from L’orchestre and the entire  Lor line (that deserves so much more love and attention). You can imagine my delight when, just a few weeks ago, Nathalie Feisthauer shared with me some of her more recent creations. Choosing favorites was no easy feat, but in the heat-drenched, long days of July, these three delights effortlessly stood out:

Artist’o Ode by Nathalie Feisthauer

Artist’o Ode (2025): “Le parfum est la musique du corps, la musique est le parfum de l’âme.” A perfume inspired by Charles Baudelaire? Oh, yes please! One that blends fragrance and music into a beautiful sensory duet? Wonderful – give me twenty bottles! “Ode,” from  Nathalie’s Allora collection, unfolds like a fragrant poem built on warm, sweet, and gently spicy layers, with a chic, unmistakably French gourmand twist. Raw almonds and heliotrope mingle effortlessly with vanilla and tonka’s rounded edges, subtly accented by a hint of cinnamon. The result is a deliciously refined experience, making you feel effortlessly chic – like slipping into your favorite white linen t-shirt, twisting your hair into the most perfectly imperfect messy bun, and applying just a whisper of red lipstick, blurred with your fingertips. (if you know, you know.) Top: Raw Almond, Heliotrope, Cinnamon, Heart Notes: Vanilla; Base Notes: Tonka Bean, Amber, Wood

Librery Parfum Sun Ice by Nathalie Feisthauer

Librery Parfum Sun Ice (2024): An ice cream-inspired perfume, perfect for summer heat without being sticky-sweet or heavy? Oh, yes! Sun Ice” from Librery Parfums is an olfactory scoop of pure delight: deliciously creamy yet refreshingly airy, with all the indulgence and none of the guilt. Mouthwatering blackcurrants and citrus zest melts into notes of crispy red apple, roasted pistachio, and delicious toffee, creating a fragrant treat that’s effortlessly uplifting. It feels exactly like savoring a cool gelato with a crunchy biscuit,  on a sun drenched Italian terrace near the sea – a dolce vita gourmand that feels weightless in the summer heat.

Top notes: Blackcurrant and Bergamot from Italy; Heart note Apple, Roasted Pistachio, Toffee and Heliotrope Base notes: Virginia Cedar, Tahitian Vanilla, Musk, Tonka Bean, Sandalwood and Amber

Decadent Memories by Perfumology

Perfumology Decadent Memories (2024): Ever since reading Olya’s review (she’s my go-to for all things delicious), I’ve been secretly craving a teaspoon of this fragrant rendition of a freshly baked pie. While I imagine it truly shining in colder weather -especially around Christmas – Decadent Memories worked absolute wonders in the slightly crisp evening air of summer. It’s a deliciously refined indulgence: baked apples, juicy cherries, and blackcurrants swirl together in a golden haze, wrapped around an elegant heart of creamy sandalwood and rich, decadent vanilla. Tempting, textured, and unexpectedly sophisticated – a very posh couture dessert. Yum!

Notes: Cherry Accord, Blueberry Accord, Baked Apple, Blackcurrant, Vanilla Absolute, Tonka Bean Absolute, Sandalwood Oil, Virginia Cedar, Ambroxan, Musks.

The art and craftmanship of Nathalie Feisthauer creations are for Nicoleta, a standout of her perfumes. Decadent Memories is another gem. An ode to the memories of baking and a freshly made pie that is cooling in a cozy kitchen on a cold weather day. This scent can shine, too on a breezy Summer’s Day; its fruity, delectable notes of baked apples, cherries and blackcurrants still deliver a tantalizing treat that paired with vanilla, a creamy sandalwood, is a decadent treat that is sophisticated and nuanced.

To my surprise, I have neither sampled nor owned a creation from Nathalie Feisthauer. It’s quite an impressive feat as she has created so many! Of the three discussed in this article, Decadent Memories piques my interest the most. The “pie-like” gourmand notes sound absolutely delectable. I want to head to my local pie spot after reading this!

I unfortunately have not tried many of the fragrances from Nathalie but based on what I know, Decadent Memories should be a favorite of mine based on the notes. I love gourmands and forever will so as long as she keeps making them, I’ll keep loving them. Librery Parfum Sun Ice could also be another great gem as Nicoleta described it as an ice cream scent for the summer. Artist’o Ode seems to be the more creative and classic one but also refreshingly sweet. Nathalie is a legend. I’m located in the USA.

It’s clear from the article Nicoleta respects Nathalie Fiesthauer’s work and can relate to her love of fragrance. Nicoleta saying she has many favorites from Nathalie makes me very interested in trying her creations. I personally love to hear the inspiration for a fragrance. It’s interesting to hear what got them interested in perfumery and what gave them their passion for it. It’s an art form and i believe you have to be passionate about what you create or people will know. She must have amazing talent to be recognized so many times for her fragrance creations, Being Michelyn’s best perfumer in 2021 and Nicoleta’s in 2023 says to me i need to become familiar with her fragrances because she obviously is extremely skilled at creating new fragrances. Decadent Memories sounds like a beautiful perfume. The notes sound amazing. I would love to smell like a “posh dessert” the way it was described. I am in the USA

  • Ah yes, the rebellious fruit that bites back like a berry with attitude and a vendetta. Last fall, I was in Portland on “business” (read: eating carbs professionally) and decided to pilgrimage down to Willamette Valley for an afternoon of wine and regret. I had my first blackcurrant wine at Honeywood Winery while absolutely obliterating a caramel bread pudding like it owed me money. It was transcendent. I rolled out of that restaurant like Divine in a polyester gown, praying the seatbelt in my rental Kia Soul could contain the drama.

And that’s exactly how I imagine this fragrance smells: bold, juicy, decadent, and just a little bit scandalous. Like it might slap me silly and call me Sally. Even worse, I would probably thank it afterwards.

    I’m in the US.

  • All of the perfumes sound wonderful. I’m definitely drawn to Sun Ice with its notes of Roasted Pistachio, Toffee and Vanilla. On my wishlist it goes. Thanks for the opportunity to win Decadent Memories. MI USA

How lucky Nicoleta is to have been smelling amazing scents for 30 years. I got into niche fragrance a mere 15 years ago. Red lipstick is also new to me and smudged on with the fingertip is the best!! That Artist o Ode sounds great with the almond. I hadn’t heard of Sun Ice and I can never get enough of pistachio. Decadent Memories and those fruit notes seems like a gourmand for summer. I need to head over the Perfumology’s website. Sadly I was near Perfumology during Covid and they their retail shop was closed. Thanks for the chance. USA. WA State.

  • Each of these perfumes sounds absolutely delightful! I’m especially intrigued by Sun Ice—the blend of Roasted Pistachio, Toffee, and Vanilla sounds irresistible. It’s definitely earned a spot on my wishlist. Thank you so much for the chance to win Decadent Memories! I am from the USA!
