As summer unfurls its warmth, blanketing the world in vibrant blooms and sultry air, the fragrance landscape comes alive with florals that capture the season’s exuberance. Among the perfumers who master this genre, Nathalie Lorson, a luminary at dsm-firmenich, stands out for her ability to compose scents that resonate deeply with emotion and artistry. “I don’t do this work for myself. The real goal is to move people,” Lorson once said, emphasizing her dedication to creating fragrances that connect with others rather than serving as a personal canvas. Her humility belies her genius, as she weaves olfactory stories that feel both intimate and universal. For ÇaFleureBon, I’ve selected three of her floral masterpieces—Amouage Blossom Love, Maison Violet Nuée Bleue and Éveilleur I AM —each a radiant ode to summer’s bloom, showcasing Nathalie Lorson and her unparalleled skill in crafting scents that uplift, transport, and inspire.

Choosing just three fragrances from Nathalie Lorson’s vast portfolio is no easy task, but each stands out for their ability to capture summer’s floral essence while showcasing her versatility. Each scent tells a unique story: Blossom Love is a lush, edible springtime dream; Nuée Bleue is a revitalizing monsoon of elegance; and I Am is a Mediterranean garden radiating feminine strength. Lorson’s gift lies in her ability to compose florals that feel alive, moving beyond mere prettiness to evoke deep emotion and connection.

Amouage Blossom Love 2017 A Lush Springtime Reverie: Amouage Blossom Love is a fragrance that feels like stepping into a spring orchard under a shower of cherry blossoms, their delicate petals carpeting the ground like a fluffy pink rug. Lorson’s creation is a masterful dance of contrasts—edible yet refined, tart yet creamy. The opening bursts with heliotrope and bergamot, a bright, powdery-citrus prelude that sets a joyful tone. At the heart, cherry blossom and amaretto intertwine, evoking the luscious bite of a Turkish delight dusted with sweet almond. Jammy rose and tropical ylang-ylang add a velvety richness, like petals warmed by the sun. The base of vanilla, tonka bean, suede, and amber wraps the composition in a soft, sensual embrace, grounding the floral exuberance with a creamy, slightly leathery warmth. It’s a fragrance that captures the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms while grounding it in Amouage’s signature opulence, making it a perfect choice for summer days when you want to feel both romantic and luxurious.

Notes: Heliotrope, Bergamot; Amaretto, Cherry Blossom, Ylang-Ylang, Rose; Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Suede, Amber.

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue review

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue by Olya Bar©

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue (2019): An Ethereal Summer Monsoon: Revived from its 1827 origins, Maison Violet is a house steeped in heritage, with iris as its cornerstone—a nod to the flower’s violet hue and the brand’s luxurious identity. In Nuée Bleue, Lorson crafts a fragrance that feels like a summer monsoon breaking over a parched landscape, revitalizing and luminous. The scent opens with an iridescent burst of bergamot, lemon, and orange blossom, a citrusy-ozonic sparkle that evokes sunlight glinting off wet leaves. At its core, iris absolute—powdery, buttery, and exquisitely refined—melds with carnation and neroli, the latter infused with a minty, camphorous lavender that adds a cooling, cloudlike lift. The base of sandalwood, benzoin, and musk glows with a milky, radiant warmth, like the soft haze after a storm.

Maison Violet Nuée Bleue is a sensory paradox—ethereal yet grounded, fresh yet sensual. Its moderate sillage makes it ideal for summer’s heat, offering a sophisticated escape that feels like a dreamscape. Lorson’s genius lies in balancing the iris’s powdery elegance with vibrant citrus and creamy woods, creating a fragrance that’s both timeless and otherworldly, a true gem in Maison Violet’s modern revival.

Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Orange Blossom; Iris Absolute, Carnation, Neroli, Lavender, Sandalwood, Benzoin, Musk.

Éveilleur I Am by Nathalie Lorson

Éveilleur I AM by Olya Bar©

Éveilleur I AM (2024) A Mediterranean Garden in Bloom: Éveilleur, a Croatian brand whose name means “awakener” in French, is a bold newcomer that captures the radiant spirit of the Adriatic coast, crowning each bottle with a symbolic dragonfly cap. In I AM,  Nathalie Lorson distills the essence of a woman standing in a sun-drenched garden, surrounded by blooming peonies and fragrant orange trees. Éveilleur I AM unfolds like a Mediterranean sunrise, each note painting a vivid picture of a coastal idyll. The opening is a vibrant burst of pink pepper and mandarin, a zesty, effervescent spark that mimics the first rays of dawn glinting off the sea. The pink pepper crackles with a spicy, rosy warmth, like the crunch of gravel underfoot as you wander through a garden path, while the mandarin—juicy and slightly green—evokes the zest of freshly peeled citrus, its brightness cutting through the humid air like a cool breeze. This opening is alive, invigorating, and full of promise, setting the stage for the floral heart to come.

At the heart, a lush bouquet blooms with breathtaking beauty. Orange blossoms unfurl its creamy, honeyed sweetness, reminiscent of blossoms swaying in a coastal grove, their scent mingling with the salty tang of the sea. Peony, voluptuous and romantic, adds a soft, powdery richness, its petals seeming to flutter in the warm air. The star of the heart is magnolia, its soapy, humid softness evoking dewy petals glistening under the midday sun. This floral trio is both delicate and bold, capturing the fleeting beauty of a summer garden while grounding it in a tactile, almost liquid humidity that feels like the air after a gentle rain.

The drydown is where I AM reveals its soul, settling into a warm, enveloping embrace. Benzoin lends a resinous, vanillic sweetness, like amber-hued sunlight filtering through ancient trees. Musk adds a clean, skin-like warmth, intimate and inviting, as if the fragrance is whispering secrets against your skin. Cedar, dry and structured, forms a subtle corset that supports the floral exuberance, grounding the composition in a timeless elegance. The base is like the lingering warmth of a summer evening, when the air is soft and the world feels infinite.

Notes: Pink Pepper, Mandarin; Orange Blossom, Peony, Magnolia; Benzoin, Musk, Cedar.

Disclaimer: The bottle of I AM was kindly gifted to me by the brand but opinions are always my own.

  • What really stands out about Nathalie Lorson’s three florals as written are her incredible ability to evoke distinct emotional journeys through flowers.
Each pretty floral is uniquely elevated. Amouage Love feels like a romantic dream, Nuée Bleue a refreshing escape, and Éveilleur I AM a vibrant, empowering hug. Lorson truly makes these scents move you, proving her genius in capturing diverse feelings. VP Texas

Nathalie Lorson might be my favorite perfumer of all time and the notes of I AM sound like a dream. Would definitely love to try!

Becoming acquainted with Maison Violet, I quickly learned that Nathalie’s creations have texture, complexity yet familiarity, and a dignified yet not stuffy quality. Comparing. All three of the florals in this log, Nuée Bleue is the only that I’ve had the pleasure of sampling, but the other two certainly peak my interest for one specific fact : neither contains jasmine nor tuberose (my unfortunate nemeses). Perhaps the heliotrope/cherry blossom combo might Blossom Love may have served as a precursor to Comete?

What strikes me most about the three fragrances chosen by Olya in this review is how distinctly they interpret summer’s florality, each telling a different emotional story umder Nathalie Lorson’s masterful touch.
The floral notes used to develop them take different directions – silky elegance bordering gourmand (Blossom love), ethereal coolness (Nuée bleue) and vivacious joyfulness (I am). As a lover of florals, I can only say that one can never have enough

Nathalie Lorson is an outstanding master perfumer and I have been loving her creations which are known for her harmonious and characteristically smooth and sensual olfactive blends. I admire her exceptional talent for creating unique and memorable fragrances like these three florals. What strikes me about Amouage Blossom Love is that is a masterful composition that embodies a delicate passionate modern feminity. An olfactive romance with everlasting passion. In Maison Violet Nuée Bleue loved that it feels fresh but also ethereal, creating a soft and velvety sensation to the skin, a dreamlike escape! Lastly the Mediterranean Beauty I AM of Éveilleur is a reminder to embrace strength, softness and empowerment. What sparks my interest is how the notes revealing the beauty of the floral soul of I AM and how overall captures the beauty of openness and strength intertwined.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful floral fragrances of Nathalie Lorson and for the opportunity to explore this outstanding creation I AM through the giveaway! Greetings from Germany

  • What resonates with me most across all three of these fragrances is Nathalie Lorson’s talent for crafting textures. Each perfume has a tactility that almost transcends scent—Blossom Love is all about velvety softness with an almondy bloom, Nuée Bleue has this sheer, misty, ozone-layer quality, and I AM is lush, juicy, and damp like an actual garden in coastal humidity. These aren’t just “floral perfumes”; they’re microclimates. That sensorial depth makes them feel deeply personal, even if you’re encountering them for the first time. I admire how each scent seems to tell its own story without shouting—more like a whispered memory that sticks.

  • FragranceFrenzyS says:

there’s something magnetic about the way Nathalie Lorson composes floral perfumes —especially in the case of Nuée Bleue. The idea of a summer monsoon breaking over parched ground is a poetic one, and I actually feel it in the contrast between the ozonic citrus and that grounding iris-sandalwood finish. It doesn’t feel like a traditional feminine floral; it’s more conceptual, like a weather pattern rendered in scent. That’s a rare thing. Blossom Love and I AM are more obviously romantic, but still carry this undercurrent of structure and self-assurance that I think keeps them from becoming overly sweet or ephemeral.

  • Lastochka says:

I love how these three perfumes show such a wide range within the floral genre. Blossom Love is playful and dreamy, full of edible nostalgia, while I AM has a more grounded sensuality that reminds me of warm skin after a day in the sun. But Nuée Bleue is the one that lingers in my mind it’s airy but not empty, elegant but modern, and there’s something so comforting in the combination of iris and musk. I appreciate how Lorson brings emotional nuance to her work these are not “nice” florals in the generic sense; they’re emotional, situational, atmospheric. They make you feel like you’re part of a place, or a moment in time.

  • AromaAdventurer says:

What I appreciate most is the emotional layering. Blossom Love is exuberant but introspective—it has that gourmand twist that makes it feel more intimate than just a “pretty cherry blossom scent.” Nuée Bleue reads almost androgynous to me, which I admire a lot, and I AM feels deeply Mediterranean, not in the postcard sense, but in the way it balances sun-drenched optimism with quiet earthiness. You can sense the Mediterranean light in the mandarin and peony, but there’s also depth—cedar, musk, and benzoin keeping it rooted. That contrast between surface beauty and emotional substance is what makes them so compelling.

  • LindenNoir says:

Reading about these perfumes, I’m struck by how thoughtfully they seem to evoke both a place and a feeling. Blossom Love reminds me of a spring memory you can’t quite place it’s sweet, but also slightly melancholic, like beauty that’s too fleeting. Nuée Bleue feels like standing on a balcony just after rain, when everything smells clean and charged with electricity. And I AM is the sun setting over a terracotta garden wall, when the day’s heat lingers in the air and everything seems golden. I admire how Lorson’s work doesn’t just smell floral it conveys emotional tone through scent. That’s what sets her apart in my eyes.

I love Nathalie Lorson’s expressions of femininity. I’ve smelled two of the three, and love this selection for its softness and life. I live in Virginia and am grateful for the opportunity!

  • I never really liked floral perfumes, I always thought they were too much but as I became more familiar with fragrances and I learned more about composition I began to be drawn to deep, beautiful, and masterfully created floral scents. Clearly Olya knows how to immerse the wearer in an experience of a real garden with all its nuances. That is striking, and moving. In maryland.

  • Ramses Perez says:

I like that Olya selected 3 fragrances with various degrees of sillage/power to showcase a wide array of options. Amouage is an iconic house and I was not aware that Nathalie Lorain created Blossom Love which is a floral scent with a sweet/creamy backdrop; very pretty. I’m not too familiar with the other 2 houses but Maison Violet’s Nuée Bleue’s iris/lavender combo is one you can’t go wrong with for summer. I Am takes a more artistic approach and tells a story about Croatia and its beauty. This one is more of a musky floral scent with a sweet base to help with the longevity. A great selection of fragrances indeed. I’m located in the USA,

  • I am so grateful the giveaway is for I Am because I already have two bottles of Maison Violet Nuée Bleue! I completely agree with you that is a top tier fragrance, top Iris for certain! It is perfection. Blossom Love I’ve only sampled years ago so I need to try that again. I’m super excited to try I Am. It sounds beautiful, Nathalie Lorson Is amazing!
I am located in the U.S.

  • As a gardener, I’m drawn to floral notes in perfumery. I do love the scent of my garden after it rains. I Am seems to capture that beautiful scent. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. MI USA

  • The florals in 1 AM sound the most interesting to me. I haven’t smelled anything like them before.
