“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.” ― Albert Camus

In the labyrinth of life, our memories and experiences interweave, each thread carrying its unique scent, like clues on a cosmic treasure map, leading us into the heart of creation, the birthplace of inspiration, the realm where art and soul converge. As we traverse these landscapes, the air becomes scented with something both familiar and wholly new, like an echo of our past projecting onto the canvas of our future. One such scented voyage of discovery awaits us in the creations of Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen, the masterminds behind Voyages Imaginaires. The collection is a veritable epic of the senses, like stepping onto the deck of an olfactory ship that’s about to cast off into the heart’s hinterlands, voyaging through the mystical topography of emotion, remembrance, and desire. Their journey, like the fabled ship of Theseus, reconstructs our understanding of the self, not through the literal olfactive planks of the vessel, but through the intimate, invisible, and ephemeral traces left by perfume on our skin and in our memories. Each creation, crafted with an unparalleled passion for natural materials, is an intimate invitation to an inner voyage, a means to unlock our subconscious, to stir our dormant desires, and to rediscover the lost paradises of our childhood.

It’s way past noon, somewhere on a tropical beach with white sands and clear pale blue waters. Today the ocean is still, no waves dare to bother the blue infinity stretched into the lines of the horizon. Above, a pale blue sky is the perfect mirror for the blissful silent eternity, in this place where clocks have forgotten their movement and time is ensnared and still. As still as the bodies stretched out in the sun, feet buried in the hot white sand, skin glistening, a deeper shade of bronze. The palm trees sway in the breeze, so slowly as if the air is made of white honey, slowly pouring between the large gaps between one second and the next.

The first minutes into Le Grand Jeu summoned in my mind the image of that paradise – and if paradise was a lush tropical island, this would be its smell – a pale yellow light where the nectar of  white flowers float in a sunlit milky veil.

Slowly things become less angelic and more human, with the aftertaste of the salt on the sweaty hot skin and the sweet white flesh of coconut that is so ripe, it almost feels like tasting an overripe banana. Playing in the background, we have the blend of milky white coconut juice mixed with the decadent richness of the vanilla, with tuberose lending its bubblegum-ish yellow mouthwatering facets to the mix. But it never feels too “tropical”,  neither does it fall into the sticky aftermath of the usual white flower-coconut scents. In Le Grand Jeu, although not listed, I feel the presence of a mischievous green, lime-ish freshness that keeps the scent alive, light-as-a-feather, and as refreshing as a coconut cocktail, green umbrella included.

As the rays of the sun turn to the reddish hue of the evenings, the white flower blossom, turning carnal, voluptuous, all curves, petals so round they are busting out at the seams with powdery sweet nectar. The tuberose turns to a heady and opulent smell, mixed with gardenia for a creamy, elegant effect that works both for “old money” Monte Carlo aesthetics and young contemporary white-minimalist-art-gallery associations. Bond Woman, Bond Girl, Bond, James Bond – this kind of effortless, relaxed, and self-assured timeless seduction power has no gender, nor any age.

Note from the brand: “This one has sex appeal to spare, proudly flaunting its tremendous sensuality. Heads turn towards the arousing scent of wet, tanned bodies, heating in the sun. The full-on charisma of a Bond Girl, or Bond himself.  We see ourselves, in long daringly low-cut evening dress or tuxedo, leaning over the gambling table, charmed, captivated. A summer that can last all year round. On the skin… A dazzling white, under a blinding sun. Gardenia and tuberose. Coconut milk. Vanilla. Exuberant and fearless. “

Notes: gardenia, tuberose, coconut milk, vanilla

  • Oooh this sounds luscious. Tropical but not too. Sweet but not too. Hint of a lime note. Delicious. Perfect for all year. Would love this! I’m in US. Thank you so much.

  • The fascinating notes of this fragrance, how unique and full of art it is sparks my interest. I live in Trzebnica, Poland, EU.

  • I’m never not interested in summertime coconut fragrances for one and number two I like to explore as many houses as I can. The review clarified that it is not overly sweet coconut

“Their journey, like the fabled ship of Theseus”

Arguably the most famous thought experiment is often used by historians, archeologists, restaurateurs , engineers, architects and others, but until now I’ve never heard it in a fragrance related topic 🙂
Bohemian avant-garde pefumery is how I’d describe Voyages Imaginaires. If I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1.L’Eau des Immortels
    2. L’échappée Sauvage
    3.Le Grand Jeu/Azahar
Tranquil review for a cozy fragrance .

“But it never feels too “tropical”, neither does it fall into the sticky aftermath of the usual white flower-coconut scents.”

Not sure what’s Nicoleta’s perception of “too tropical” , but on my skin Le Grand Jeu goes gourmand-ish Bounty chocolate bar like smell territory in the base. Also the white floral melange is just a bit indolic to me , with nothing truly carnal.
Vacation in a bottle , Le Grand Beau you’re welcome

I enjoyed reading Nicoleta’s review of Le Grand Jeu — it sounds like an interesting balance of being opulent and light at the same time. I liked the line that the fragrance has a “mischievous green, lime-ish freshness that keeps the scent alive, light-as-a-feather, and as refreshing as a coconut cocktail, green umbrella included.” I like the smell of gardenia and tuberose, and I would be excited to smell like a Bond girl!

What sparks my interest about this perfume review is the vivid and evocative description of a tropical paradise, creating a sensory experience that transports the reader to a serene beach setting. Additionally, the mention of a mischievous green, lime-ish freshness and the association of timeless seduction power with no gender or age intrigue me, hinting at a unique and versatile fragrance composition.

  • A coconut cocktail with a green umbrella is exactly what I need thus summer. I liked the notes of gardenia and tuberose mixed with vanilla. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

Hello from Florida, and thank you to Nicole for the review! Le Grand Jeu sounds like a truly grand, narcotic white floral — I’d love to give it a try.

  • This sounds wonderfully decadent — the overripe sweetness and milkiness of the coconut and florals balanced with the salt and sweat of a long day at the beach. Nicoleta’s review is beautiful as usual and really brings the listed notes to life. I’d love to win this and test it out on the beach this summer! I’m located in New York, in the US. Thank you!

  • “Voyage Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu” seems to capture the essence of an invincible summer, inviting us on a journey through memories and experiences. I think with the chosen natural ingredients, itll evoke a tropical paradise, blending sunlit white flowers, coconut, and vanilla. Sounds like it exudes a timeless seduction and fearless allure, reminiscent of Bond Girls and James Bond. I would love to be transported by this fragrance to these enchanting realms, In FLORIDA with much love.

  • I love a good tropical perfume, and I love a good gardenia note as well! I would love to win a bottle. I’m in MN, USA.

  • This is a perfect summer beach fragrance for me; tropical flowers and vanilla scented coconut. The hint of lime freshness keeps it from being too sweet. I can see a tall, leggy Bond girl wearing this fragrance at a posh resort in the Maldives. I’ve never tried a Voyages Imaginaires fragrance before but have heard of the line. I’m in the US.

  • Oh howI love tropical white flowers! We just booked for Kauai in January and I’d love to take this fragrance with me. I also love the partnership, taking Goutal into a new generation of perfumery! Bravo! I’m in Missouri.

Oh! Nicoleta i adored your review.I felt teleported to a white beach one hot summer day, one of those days when the heat suffocates you and you simply have no other shelter than the water. I would love to try this solar perfume, I am from Toulouse France

  • Hi, this is my first comment on Çafleurebon, I’m thrilled that it should be about this brand! This sounds very appealing indeed, with lush flowers, lively lime, just about enough coconut and creamy vanilla, it’s mouthwatering. I tested the beautiful L’Eau des Immortels from Voyages Imaginaires, a superb immortelle-patchouli combination, refined and a perfect mix between the East and the Mediterranean world.
    Greetings from Strasbourg, France

These notes – gardenia, tuberose, coconut milk, vanilla – are my interpretation of heaven, summer, beach, paradise, peacefulness and bliss…What I loved most in Nicoleta’s review is her description of the exact same feeling: “The first minutes into Le Grand Jeu summoned in my mind the image of that paradise – and if paradise was a lush tropical island, this would be its smell – a pale yellow light where the nectar of white flowers float in a sunlit milky veil.”

This is divine white floral vanilla for peefect beach summer, the beautiful pictures reminded me of my hometown Split as I would love to wear it there. Im from croatia

  • Beautiful review by Nicoleta of Voyages Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu!!! I am a 007 James Bond fan and this sparks my interest with a fragrance that is sexy, charming and captivating. Really happy to learn about this amazing fragrance. Thanks for the giveaway. Greetings and blessings from the USA.

  • From Camus’ eternal summer to the ship of Theseus, then a lush tropical island and finally the world of James Bond – Le Grand Jeu is surely worthy of a place in the lineup of Voyages Imaginaires, as Emmanuelle states in the overview “conjure[ing] sensations, dreams and travel.” I can’t believe the beautiful things that are being done in the realm of natural perfumery! It really makes me so happy to see high-concept works like Le Grand Jeu come together in this field!
I love the idea of a beach scent that goes beyond the beach into the luxury and danger of a high-stakes casino, one that doesn’t fall into “the sticky aftermath of the usual white flower-coconut scents.” This tight rope walking act is what sparks my interest the most!

    Best wishes from the US!

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

Am I curious if Le Grand Jeu doesn’t go on the oh-so-much beaten creamy, dreamy, lush white florals? YES.
Did I just [ hypothetically] turned on my back [for who wants uneven tan?] on the perfect beach described by Nicoleta? YES.
Do I want to eat Le Grand Jeu as much as wearing it? Also YES.
I am in Europe and YES, I’m a bit cray cray about tuberose 🙂

  • foreverscents says:

This sounds like a tropical beach vacation in a bottle, but I like that it’s not a typical beach fragrance. I love that Le Grand Jeu has such beautiful notes, especially the coconut milk. I could definitely picture Daniel Craig in that famous beach scene as I read Nicoleta’s lovely review.
    I live in the USA.

  • IvanVelikov says:

Fragrances like Voyages Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu i like , happy natural aroma , having both gourmand and floral features. Often coconut fragrances do turn suntan lotion on skin , but the lime freshness will balance the fragrance well.
I the contrast between the different stages of the fragrance , the “old money Monte Carlo aesthetics” , and especially the James Bind dressed sharp feel.
Thank you Nicoleta Tomsa, Voyages Imaginaries

  • Beautiful review, Nicoleta. In this season of summer fragrances, Le Grand Jeu sounds like a lovely option, with its island florals and warm glow. The unlisted fresh quality is particularly intriguing, since that’s somewhat unusual among white flower and coconut fragrances, many of which are anything but light and refreshing. Le Grand Jeu would be a perfect wear for a classy resort dinner out on the sand.

I’m in the midwest, USA. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Stunning review and stunning perfume!
I just love love love how Nicoleta describes the image she has in her mind while wearing it: afternoon on a tropical beach with white sands and clear blue waters, the ocean is still, pale blue sky is the perfect mirror for the blissful silent eternity. In this place clocks have forgotten their movement and time is still, as still as the bodies stretched out in the sun, feet buried in the hot sand, bronze skin glistening, palm trees swaying slowly in the breeze…
Oh, how I wish to be there….

  • Nice review Nicoleta! I agree with you that memories and experiences entwine and each fiber has its own scent. Doyen and Goutal sew with natural materials a travel to an inner voyage : an imaginaire one to our inner memories: since I was a child, I dreamed of a tropical beach ,white sands and clear pale blue waters and I have been lucky to be in these paradises to me. White flowers , ripe fruits, coconut water, vanilla pods are in Le Grand Jeu in a green refreshing way till the flowers show us their carnal, exuberant and opulent side in an undemanding and relaxed way. Amazing! I live in Spain, EU.

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Nicoleta’s review of Voyages Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu. I love envisioning a lush tropical island with exotic fruits and fresh native flowers. The brand notes it’s sensual qualities relating it to the James Bond women throughout history. I loved Nicoleta’s vivid description on how this fragrance comes across so fruity, floral, and sensual with sun kissed skin and is perfectly genderless. I would love to experience this fragrance. I am from the USA.

  • Very vivid imagery, it’s like you almost feel the sand warming up your skin. Gardenia and tuberose are no strange association in scents, and I’m sure Le Grande Jeu is a warm welcoming aboard the olfactory ship Nicoleta cleverly associates to the Voyages Imaginaires collection.
EU here, thanks for the review & the draw.

  • Uncle1979 says:

Voyages Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu is cozy, relaxing and sexy fragrance.
I love Camille Goutal and Isabelle Doyen way of making fragrances, based on memories, crafted with passion for natural materials, and with connections to our childhood.
I’m definitely not Daniel Craig and James Bond kind of character, but eating Coconut Banana Muffins, while on vacation in Canne , is what I’m thinking right now thanks to Nicoleta Tomsa.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Voyages Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu is provocative floral with coconut , sweet and deep , chameleon fragrance if I have to guess.
I understand it should evoke more formal “white-minimalist-art-gallery associations” , but I actually sense the footprint of modern relaxing fragrance. I’m so interested
    Thanks for the draw

  • Phillip_Barkley says:

Le Grand Jeu is so typically Le bonheur de vivre . Everyone needs to loosen up from time to time , drink some coconut water , tanning on the beaches of Monte Carlo , playing at the local casinos.
I don’t know if there is a connection between the two, but there’s based on a true story movie i’ve watched called Le Grand Jeu , with Idris Elba and Kevin Costner , I believe the English name is Molly’s Game , where the main character is investigated for creating illegal poker empire.
Thank you , American living in Paris, France

I like how Nicoleta Tomsa presented us Voyages Imaginaires Le Grand Jeu , with the help of James Bond . The coconut , tuberose and honey like sweetness , together with “light-as-a-feather, and as refreshing as a coconut cocktail, green umbrella included.” description i find most intriguing.

    THanks for the writeup Nicoleta.

It was super interesting to see the evolution of this fragrance from a the pale yellow of light into a fully fledged seductive scent that was reminiscent of bodies tanning on the beach in the blazing sun with it’s massive appeal.

I’d certainly love to get a nose on this.
