Experiencing Blue Heart by Thameen London is like pushing the door open into the royal universe of opulent and timeless elegance. A blast of fragrant saffron, an ingredient as precious perhaps as the famous gem that inspired its creation, greets us with all its glory from the start. Thameen London Blue Heart is one of the most unique coconut spins I have ever laid my nose on. A spicy lactonic opening leads to a rich buttery heart of orris spun with warm vanilla and nutty tonka bean. Sounds gourmand, right? Not so fast there. Quite an unusual cocktail if you ask me. There is a fruit-like heart that gives off a feeling of a creamy mango smoothie, fleshy, sweet, and quite a gourmand; however, it’s mostly an imaginary note as it is not listed anywhere. The lactonic lushness wrestles with the intense fragrant decadence of saffron which brings a touch of pepper-like spiciness, and the balsamic smokiness of the cypriol oil adds an incredible dose of depth to the structure.

Considering the inspiration Thameen London draws for many of their works and the mesmerizing deep blue color of the Thameen bottles, my mind went immediately to the famous Blue Heart diamond. Its story began in 1908 when it was discovered in South Africa. When it was found, the diamond weighed a whopping 100.5 carats and made quite a splash in the media worldwide. Over the years, Blue Heart Diamond has fallen under the ownership of many entities, socialites, and famous jewel houses like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Henry Winston and graced many necks with its presence as it was continuously reset into new designs before finding its permanent home at the National Gem Collection in the Smithsonian Institute where it remains until this day. Thameen London Blue Heart celebrates its glory in all the right facets, bringing to the forefront the aromatic saffron that takes one of the leading roles in the overall composition. Framed by the iris, which adds a buttery thickness to the heart, amplifying the nuttiness of the coconut, it mimics the platinum setting framing the diamond within, highlighting and magnifying all its beauty but never outshining it.

Let’s dive deeper into one of the notes used to build the base of the fragrance, and it happens to be among some of my favorites, Nagarmotha. Its aroma is rich and persistent, with a strong woody, earthy, and deep characteristic. It can easily replace the patchouli so often used in the base of fragrances these days. Nagarmotha brings a lot more richness to the aroma and is incredibly complex as an accord. It is somewhat peppery even with smoky notes of leather, displays great tenacity, and boasts rich, sweet-woody undertones, especially when blended with vanilla, amber, and tonka bean.
Thameen London Blue Heart is a devilishly lavish release, warm and enveloping. It is worth mentioning that despite its sumptuous structure, it may not necessarily wow every single person as the gem that perhaps inspired it, but it will sure make you stop in your tracks as I promise you, it is not quite like anything you have smelled before
