Navitus Parfums Lyric bottle by Rachel©
What initially drew me to Navitus Parfums Lyrik were the perfumers who created it: Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet. As you may remember from my previous post “Three you should be wearing by Julien Rasquinet” I am a long-time admirer of Julien Rasquinet’s work and seeing that he, once again, teamed up with master perfumer Dominque Ropion, as he did for Arabian Oud’s top seller (and one of my personal favorites), Madawi, how could I resist giving Navitus Parfums Lyrik a try?
From the first whiff of Navitus Parfums Lyrik, I could have, without even knowing, guessed that this was a Rasquinet / Ropion creation. It has the richness and density of an Arabic fragrance which, is not surprising since Navitus Parfums is a Dubai based brand. But it is not a traditional Arabian scent in that there is no rose, no oud, not even any saffron. Yet, it takes me back to my years in the UAE where big bold fragrances were the norm not the exception. Navitus Parfums Lyrik smells of top-quality ingredients right from the start all the way through the long-lasting dry down. As an extrait parfum, as are all Navitus fragrances, Lyrik has outstanding longevity with a sillage that attracts compliments but is not overwhelming after it has a few minutes to settle down on your skin.
The brand mentions three key words associated with Lyrik: Magnetic | Sexy | Captivating
While I take most marketing copy with a grain of salt, I do agree that Navitus Parfums Lyric is a scent that draws people in and holds their attention. The mix of citrus and spice in the top notes along with the creamy almond of the heart creates a fresh yet soft woodiness that leans slightly traditionally masculine. However, don’t let this turn you off my fellow female aficionados, after the first few minutes Lyrik changes its tone through the addition of a semi-sweet toffee note. Lyrik achieves the perfect balancing act between gourmand and ambery. The spices and olibanum keep it from going overboard on the sweetness and instead you are left with an enveloping sense of warmth and coziness found only in the finest amber perfumes.

While wearing Lyrik, I couldn’t help but reflect upon two other Julien Rasquinet creations, Golden Serenade by Jusbox and Fidelis by Histoires de Parfums. While not to suggest a direct comparison between these scents, there is an overall familiarity about them. Even the previously mentioned, Madawi by Arabian Oud, while sweeter than any of these, could easily fall into this category of luxurious scents worthy of being a signature fragrance (if you happen to be looking for one). Lyrik can certainly be worn year-round thanks to the freshness of the top notes tempering the warmth of the base.
Navitus Parfums has found a winning combination of working with some of the best perfumers (Bertrand Duchaufour, Jorge Lee, Lucas Sieuzac, Francis Kurkdjian and Jerome di Marino, Christian Carbonnel and Sidonie Lancesseur to name a few) and allowing people with a genuine passion for fragrance, (such as Video Editor Steven Gavrielatos and YouTube video reviewer Darian Hill), to drive the creative vision.
While Navitus Parfums Lyrik is exceptionally executed and in a sea of mediocre releases, it stands firmly on a high pedestal. The composition is well balanced, and I find it to be quite unisex, especially with the touch of toffee in the base.
