Imagine experiencing a painting through a scent. How much would it enhance the whole experience and transport you inside the art? Michelle Feeney of Floral Street created Sunflower Pop in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum, celebrating one of the most joyous times in Van Gogh’s life. After escaping the busy Parisian life in the city, he sought peace in the south of France, and the result was one of the most famous paintings in the world -The Sunflowers series. Vincent Van Gogh created a total of twelve of these canvases, although the most commonly referred to are the seven he painted while in Arles in 1888 – 1889.

I can’t help but remember the most immersive exhibit I have ever attended, in NYC. A combination of huge projectors making the famous paintings come alive, a VR experience of literally exploring the landscape inside the paintings. Breathtaking. Vincent’s memories and experiences all translate in the grandest way with many representations of his studio. In a letter to his sister in late 1888, he talks of his friend Gauguin coming to live with him in his yellow house in Arles and later says that he wishes to decorate the studio with nothing but sunflowers. It is THE yellow house that later becomes the scene for his infamous self-mutilation. On a brighter note, Van Gogh eventually took the sunflower as his artistic signature, telling his brother Theo in another letter in 1889 that “the sunflower is mine.”

Jerome Epinette captures the sunny warm beauty of the South of France as he builds the fragrance stroke by stroke. Starting with the bergamot from Calabria and juicy mandarin, a deep velvet shade of plum blossom and passion fruit. Each ingredient is layered meticulously to represent emotion, just like the brush strokes of the famous painter, working together to be a part of something new and unforgettable. A fact worth mentioning is the vibrant yellow paints used by Vincent Van Gogh to paint his famous series were first made available early in the 19th century. He was among the first artists to embrace them, just as Floral Street is one of the first truly clean fragrance brands, using sustainable vegan ingredients and recycled packaging to create true works of wearable art.

Floral Street Sunflower Pop is a true citrus, a fruity fragrance that feels incredibly joyful and sun-soaked, bursting with rays of optimism. With each spritz, you will experience yellow-tipped sunflowers from the brush of Van Gogh. The heart is sweetened by a vegan honey accord, making me think of the darker rustic shades on some of Van Gogh’s sunflowers. What I loved was the vivid taste of Bellini. I often enjoyed brunch during my stay in The South of France. It instantly transported me to the hot summer months in July, seeking shade in the gardens and enjoying a tart and sweet taste of peach puree and the fizziness of champagne on the tongue. The result is a vibrant, sumptuous citrus blend to bring to life the beauty and optimism of Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers,’ an effervescent celebration of visual and olfactory art.
