Jeroboam Miksado Review (Vanina Muracciole) 2015 + Neck of K draw

Jeroboam Miksado Review

The Tower of Babel and the esperanto spirit Jeroboam Miksado bottle – painting by Gianni Dagli Orti (©DeA) and picture ©Jovoy Paris, all edited by Emmanuelle Varron.

Jovoy Paris fans know the brand’s collection of perfumes, each more surprising than the next. And, you have read many reviews of the eponymous legacy brand on these pages, but you might not know the backstory of Jeroboam, Jovoy Paris’ second wholly owned collection. All perfumes are Extraits and use musk as a common ingredient. Jeroboam’s flacon is a nod to the 3-liter spirits (usually wine or champagne) bottle. Jerobaum’s tag line perfume for urban nomads. All 11 fragrances were given Esperanto names (Esperanto being an international language created in 1887), symbolizing the universality of perfume. Vanina Muracciole has signed all of all Jeroboam’s perfumes.

At Esxence 2015, our Editor-in-Chief  was snooping around and saw a bottle she didn’t recognize at the Jovoy booth. That is when François Hénin the founder and creative director of  Jovoy Paris disclosed he was set to launch a new brand named Jeroboam. As summer vacations end in France, I thought Jeroboam Miksado would be a perfect perfume for this transitional time of the year. Miksado is inspired by the Esperanto word “Miks”, which means “the mixture.” A well-chosen name when you read the composition of this fragrance, which includes fresh, spicy, leathery, amber, woody and gourmand notes. Jeroboam Miksado is a cocktail of intense raw materials which immediately sets the tone; this perfume is intense and animalic. On my skin, the opening plays between the freshness of bergamot and the warm and leathery aspect of saffron. A surprising hot-cold sensation, is evoked by cedarwood and guaiac woody notes which add more depth to the “Hot/Cold” duality.

Upon first spray of Jeroboam Miksado I imagine a tête-à-tête with a American man I had never spoken to, although we rubbed shoulders several times at parties and passed each other on the Rue de Castiglione. Tonight is the last evening before he leaves my beloved City of Lights. Finally he speaks to me alone and he simply asked me one thing: “Don’t wear perfume tonight, I want to share something special with you”.

jerobaum Miksado review

The English Patient 1996 ©screen shot apped with Miksado ©Emmanuelle

9 PM: time for scented seduction. Emanating from his unbuttoned white linen shirt I smell him although we are socially distancing. He shows me the bottle of Jeroboam Miksado: “I had this fragrance with me the whole time I was here. But it was tonight that I wanted to wear it. Give it a try“. He’s the one who delicately sprays the Extrait de Parfum on me. He chooses the base of my neck, the one called “the neck of K” in Anthony Minghella The English Patient. I immediately identify the same notes perceived from his skin. Here we are, linked by scents. I close my eyes and let myself be carried away by this spicy wave of absolute delight. Jeroboam Miksado also unveils the balmy side of labdanum on my skin, which pairs wonderfully with saffron leathery note. “Let me smell you, now” he asks. He comes closer to my neck.  Our skins do not touch but the fragrance that intermingles intensifies our bond. “How beautiful it is on you! Even warmer than on my skin … I feel like we are hidden in a souk, surrounded by a thousand magical scents. And this hint of patchouli gives it even more body and sensuality”.

It is my turn to lean on his neck.  Miksado ‘ musky spicy aroma mixes with his skin’s musk, leaving a trail of animalic sensuality .

But who brushed the other’s skin first?

It’s the early morning, and he’s gone. I can still smell Jeroboam Miksado on my arm. The spicy and woody notes have been grown softer during the night and changes. The leathery aspects of the scent now has a gourmand facet that I had not perceived the day before. Patchouli and vanilla add as a resinous sweetness  in contrast to the the stormy opening I experienced with my beautiful stranger the day before. What a summer night …

Notes: bergamot, labdanum, saffron, cedar, guaiac wood, geranium, musk, patchouli, vanilla.

Disclaimer: A huge “merci” to Jovoy Paris for the Jeroboam Miksado bottle provided for this review. The opinions expressed are my own.

  • I especially loved the little story told at the end – quite evocative 😉 And since I never tested a Jerobeam scent I am even more intrigued!

  • I enjoyed the fragrance presentation and stories behind it. I live in Poland, EU. In my opinion the most sensual note in perfumery is vanilla.

Mmm, I love musky animalic stuff!! Sensual & passionate scents are the best.
Sounds like a multifaceted fragrance and has an interesting shades. Wonderful!
For me the most sensual note are probably frankincense.
There’s also myrrh & musks…it’s hard to pick just one note)

  • What a great review by Emmanuelle. Jerobaum Miksado made her dream of a love affair. It’s really coincidental because I had noticed The English Patient is going to be on HBO Sept 2. I read the book but never saw the movie!
I learned about the origin of the name as well. I wish I could meet a handsome French tourist but he would have to social distance.
    Sexiest ingredient is musk absolutely.

  • Oh my goodness! Emmanuelle, I enjoyed your review immensely. I imagined my wife and I in the same setting. There are very few fragrances we enjoy wearing at the same time. However, given the scene presented in your review and the wonderful notes this fragrance has to offer, I believe this will be a fragrance we will add to OUR collection. I personally find the notes of Vanilla, Musk, and Oud to be most sensual 😉 USA

  • La Liturgie des Heures , Psychedelique , Les Jeux sont Faits Jovoy and Private Label are the Jovoy fragrances i know . Les Jeux sont Faits i found to be the best smelling one of the four , $180 is what i paid for 100ml bottle from Luckyscent.
Jeroboam I know very little about, other than Sebastian videos , and the reviews on Cafleurebon. I like the name Miksado ,Esperanto is artificially created language in 19th century, all i can remember about it from my high school days .
Miksado i think is sexy and seductive , woody and musky grown up fragrance, in a special bottle.
Emmanuelle Varron leathery, the day after thoughts about the fragrance, picked up my interest even more.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

This review is fantastic! The sensual scene depicted is just lovely. I’m not sure what note I find most sensual but maybe something like amber or musk. In St. Louis, MO

  • I have not tried anything from Jeroboam yet, but I keep on reading great things about this house. I would love to start with Miksado as the notes seem right up my alley!
    Thank you!

  • Thank you for the review Emmanuelle! It was extremely interesting to learn about Esperanto.
You’ve lured me down a rabbit hole where I’m finding myself starting to learn this international auxiliary language!

Such a beautiful sensual experience you’ve shared with us here! I will most certainly copy the idea where I will ask my partner not to wear a fragrance and pick one for her that ,hopefully, will make her swoon. I would love to find out whether Jeroboam’s Miksado has the same effect for us as it did for you!

One of the notes me and my partner find most sensual is Musk. I love it when she wears Body Shop’s White Musk and she loves it when I wear Jovan’s Original Musk.
I am certain we will both enjoy Miksado because of its prominent base note of Musk.

    Greetings from the UK!

  • A combination of Musk, Oud, and rose is very sensual, in its many forms, with or without florals on top – if I had to choose one, it would be a gentler version of (Laotian or Cambodian) oud, gently and discreetly applied. Emmanuelle’s review of Jeroboam Miksado described the nature of this perfume well by the underlying sensual encounter. Thanks for the interesting backstory behind these perfumes, especially the use of Esperanto in their names. Appreciate the draw and review. From USA.

  • MJ FragHead says:

“The Mixture” fresh, spicy, leathery, amber, woody and gourmand notes a cocktail of intense raw materials… & I love me some intense LoL I’m also digging the bottle!! Love the review Emmanuelle, felt like I was in the City of lights myself!! Whether I’m the lucky winner or not I’m getting a bottle after this introduction, very intrigued!! USA Oh Bergamot, musk, patchouli & don’t forget vanilla… Patchouli being most sensual!! Thanks for the opportunity and good luck everyone!!

  • What an intimate and sexy scent described here. It makes you want more. I personally love labdanum and that inclusion seems to take the scent even higher. In maryland.

  • It just got a little warmer in Texas . I love the provocative story at the end. This sounds like it would be a stunner in the winter- would love to try. Who knows what could happen? US

  • I must admit I did enjoy the first photo with the Tower of Babel. The note that I find sensual is a well done musk. US

  • Emmanuelle! What a sultry tale! If Jeroboam
Miksado is that rousing, we must experience this fragrance! Intense and animatic notes can be stunningly gorgeous. As for the most sensual notes in perfumery, I have always answered civet & ambergris; however, I recently discovered Aurélien Guichard’s Encens Suave. Something about this fragrance is quite sensual (perhaps the Uunsi Somali Incense, Labdanum, Benzoin, Coffee, and/or Vanilla). It reminds me of living in Paris (rue d’Orsel) hidden away at the intersection of Chateau Rouge, Pigalle, & Sacre Coeur. Now exploring new avenues of scent. I would love to add Jerobaom Miksado to the journey! Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! USA ❤️

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

Almost unfair how much this review makes me want to travel abroad and meet a stranger! Maybe I can find a souk to hide in… I find amber to be a very sensual note. I’m in the USA.

  • What an enlightening review! I learned a lot about this line of fragrances, including that they all contain musk and the bottles are an homage to wine and liquor flacons. I also didn’t know the names are all in Esperanto. I learn so much from these reviews. The most sensual note to me is, and always will be… musk! Followed closely by patchouli and guaiac oil.
    Cheers from NC, USA.

  • Miksado sounds absolutely decadent. I enjoyed the romantic story of the stranger. I need to explore Jeroboam fragrances….all eleven! Thanks for another great draw! Mich USA

  • KitenKannelle says:

Thank you for painting such a complete picture and experience of this fragrance!
I also appreciate your mention of bright, warm, and hot/cold elements. I find it so helpful to think of perfume in terms of hot/cold and wet/dry.
The only scent I have come across which seems both warm and cold, damp and dry, is Dzongkha. Just magical, as well as versatile.
I also love the fresh/warm combination of citrus and saffron – luminous in my mind – e.g. Cuir de Lancome.
Miksado has a beautiful bottle and lettering, and it sounds like it is a very rich but nuanced fragrance.
I find musk to be the most sensual note, from vintage Joy & No. 5 parfums, to Kiehl’s, and beyond.
    From Michigan, USA

  • What a wonderful Emmanuelle very clear and informative
I live in paris and favorites notes are saffron
    Vanilla
    Patchouli

Love this sensual review! one of my favorite things about perfume is the way the same perfume can smell different on each person’s skin. And the way it makes people want to lean in closer to each other to try and puzzle out what they’re smelling. Labdanum is one ingredient that’s intoxicating and difficult to place unless you’ve smelled the raw material, in my opinion. I love researching the ways it was used throughout history. According to apothecarysgarden (the store where I buy resins for incense) it used to be used as a main ingredient in Mesopatamian beard wax and hair styling paste, imparting a strong yet comforting perfume that lingered for many hours. These days I try to sample any perfume that features Labdanum as a prominent note. Thanks for writing about Miksado so I can add it to my wishlist! (I live in the USA)

  • I loved the connection to the movie and once explained it created an almost 3D view of the image for me.

I’ve tried the entire line from the brand and they have a stellar collection!

The note I find the most sensual is civet , the beautiful raunchy warm tones it brings is unmatched.

    I’m from Ireland, EU

  • I enjoyed reading this tease my senses perfume story of Jeroboam Miksado and its warm-cold duality , for me the most sensual are the warm ones! Thanks for the draw, from Romania with love!

  • Emmanuelle managed to write a very cinematic little story to describe this perfume. It could fit perfectly in a perfume ad!
Miksado sounds beautiful itself. Spicy, musky, leathery and animalic, and eventually sweetened by vanilla and patchouli. A definite unisex.
Sensual notes in perfumery…of course I would answer vanilla, maybe amber and resins and sometimes patchouli, in combination with sweeter notes. But I also wanna say tuberose, because it personally makes my eyes roll back in my head when I smell it. But that could be just me!
    I live in EU.

Notes: bergamot, labdanum, saffron, cedar, guaiac wood, geranium, musk, patchouli, vanilla. A beautiful review by Emmanuel musk is a note that I still have a problem with but. But my favourite and most sensual note is Rose. I am loving the Patchouli and vanilla in the base. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • I close my eyes and let myself be carried away by this spicy wave of absolute delight. Jeroboam Miksado also unveils the balmy side of labdanum on my skin, which pairs wonderfully with saffron leathery note. “Let me smell you, now” he asks. He comes closer to my neck, slowly. Our skins do not touch each other, but the fragrance that binds us intensifies our bond. “How beautiful it is on you! Even warmer than on my skin … I feel like we are hidden in a souk, surrounded by a thousand magical scents. And this hint of patchouli gives it even more body and sensuality”.

It is my turn to lean on his neck. Miksado ‘ musky spicy aroma mixes with his skin’s musk, leaving a trail of animalic sensuality …

  • I loved the review, especially for a perfume from a house I’ve heard about, but haven’t tried out anything. It was written very well. I actually think musk is the most sensual note, if not sexual even! Kiehls Original Musk, Lutens Kublai Khan and Carnicure from Marlou all fit this animalic, sexual tone which is extremely sensual, but also intimate due to their low projection. I love, love musk and I think Miksado would be extremely interesting to try out. I live in Croatia, EU.

  • Fraghead Summy says:

Loved the review Emmanuelle . i loved how the whole fragrance was explained , to me its a dark spicy fun scent which is not overly masculine . I think its best suited for winters . I live in The US and vanilla is the most sensual note to me.

  • A lovely fragrance which is woody, with notes of guaiac wood , which also gives this scent guiaic sweetness . This scent just grows on you. My most sensual note is musk. USA

  • The review was very intriguing, well done Emmanuelle! Romance in a bottle.. lol flight is booked to the city of lights after this sexy story!! My bf would definitely love this fragrance, anything intense, musk, patchouli just some of his favorites.. If he hasn’t tried it already!? USA Ohio musk is very sensual followed closely by patchouli!! Thanks for chance to win CaFleureBon

  • Miksado looks interesting! I like that it’s a powerful and intense mix of raw materials which immediately set the tone, having animalic characteristics.

Thank you for the review and for the draw! Commenting from Europe.

  • This was an interesting review and story. I loved learning about the beginning in 2015, and the fantasy tale. I am in the US. I consider amber to be the most sensual note.

  • emorandeira says:

Hi çafleurebon community! I have always been atracted by the jeroboam bottles but never tried any of them. I LOVE how Emmanuelle explain the duality Hot/Cold of the fragrance and how explains the mix of different characters that could be found here: fresh, spicy, gourmand… I LOVE also The description along the time is also very interesting because It let me imagine about the development of the fragrance.
For me the most sensual note un perfumery is the civet. When It is blended with other elements give to the perfumes a character almost sexual.
My name is Edgar (parfum_sindromico) and I am writing from Tenerife, Spain (EU). Congratulations for this great review!

  • Alluring, seductive review. I often find frankincense a seductive as note, but Miksado sounds amazing. In NC USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I have not yet tried any Jeroboam fragrances yet but I love that the names are all inspired by Esperanto! I also love your description of the fragrance as being hot/cold. We’re coming into the season where I crave leather and this sounds divine. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Honestly that review was a tad too gooey and whisy washy for my tastes. Going from the notes I could see myself liking this scent. Going from the review I’d be inclined to walk away… running.

Still curious I’d like to try my luck in the draw.

I’m from Germany and consider the notion that notes can be sensual to be a nice touch of imagination, but not grounded in reality.

  • Naming the Jeroboam fragrances in Esperanto is really unique! Miksado sounds like a perfect scent for fall. The spiced woods, patchouli and vanilla will feel so comforting in cooler weather. I always found a leather note to be the most sensual and I’m glad to see it in Miksado. I’m in MD, USA.

  • wandering_nose says:

Emmanuelle has built a very nice bridge between the feeling of the scent and the story she added to it, including the association with “The English Patient”, a movie I used to love. Jeroboam Miksado sounds like an amazingly beautiful, deep and complex creation. The spicy, leathery, gourmand-ish, resinous and musky-animalic facets make it beyond tempting. The black opaque depth adds to the allure. I would really love to try it. The most sensual notes in perfumery (I am unable to just pick one) would be jasmine, musk, vanilla and patchouli – each of them depending on how it is rendered. I am based in Ireland, EU

  • Claumarchini says:

Thank you so much for this review, such an evocative and sensual story I loved it! I didn’t know the story behind Jeroboam, it is really interesting and another confirmation of the great skills and creative style of Francois Henin. I have bought some fragrances from Jovoy and received a sample of Gozo: simply beautiful! I am sure the other fragrances are as amazing, so I would love to be able to try also Miksado! Greetings from Italy

  • I would like to try this collaboration between Jeroboam , Jovoy , and Vanina Muracciole .
    Emmanuelle Varron take on Miksado
reminded me of Paris, Saffron Vanilla Cake , and just walking on Champs-Èlysèes with my girlfriend. Pastry Chef in the house
I am familiar with Jeroboam, and to me Insulo is the best one. Top quality vanilla fragrance.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • I’m familiar with all Jeroboam fragrance, if I have to rate my favorite ones:
    1. Insulo
    2. Oriento
    3. Ambra / Miksado
My impressions of Miksado are very different, compared to what Emmanuelle Varron is getting. Different types of skin, and perception maybe? To me the fragrance is really musky and woody through the whole time. I don’t get even traces of something gourmandish, resins are barely there. It’s interesting how we both like Miksado, but for a different reasons .
    All profiles I already follow
    Thanks a lot
    USA only , for now

  • I really enjoyed the description of how the leathery aspects of the scent got a gourmand facet. I would love to have a chance to wear Miksado now during the fall! The notes that I consider most sensual are gourmand notes, especially chocolate.

    I live in Sweden, EU.

Thank you for this intense review Nicoleta.

I love the way your review delves into the hot/cold from the perspective of the connection between two people and the scent/ note that binds them.

I find musks (especially the kind used in Narcisco Rogruiguez) to be quite sensual.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • i thought this one was unisex but the description as the smell of a random American made me change my perspective. This brand is from Jovoy which I know they have wonderful offerings with really great projection. I would like to try this one too.

    I am from EU

  • Bryant Worley says:

What I enjoyed most was the 2 strangers, who not only showed the sensuality of the fragrance, but gave good descriptions of how it played on their skins.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA, and the note I find most sensual is Amber.

  • Hello people !
I ‘m familliar with some frags from the line,
Miksado and Vespero are definitely full bottle worthy in my opinion, and on my to-buy list.
I really enjoyed the info on the review,
and I’d be more than happy to win!
Most sensual note to me would be a rose done to perfection.

    Greetings from Athens,Greece

  • The sensual nature of this scent with resinous sweetness , is what intrigued me the most as most scents either tend to be overly sweet or the sweetness is masked by stronger notes. This masterpiece is perfectly balanced . My most sensual note is Musk. UK

  • One of the most exciting reviews I’ve read on Cafleurebon so far! I loved Emmanuelle’s “scenario”. And now I need to try Miksado!
For me one of the most sensual notes is tobacco (think Byredo’s Tobacco Mandarin), although I find Jeroboam’s Oriento one of the most sensual perfumes overall.

    I live in The Netherlands.

    Kr,
    Diana

  • Well done Emmanuelle for the courage to try a new narrative to depict a fragrance. I appreciated the memory of the English Patient and the neck of K, a truly sensual scene.
My favorite notes in perfumery are labdanum, Tonka and vanilla.
Thanks for the draw. I live in France.

  • I’ve certainly heard of Jovoy Paris, and now I’m reminded, if I didn’t hear it before, that Jeroboam is from the same people who own Jovoy Paris. I like hearing about a fragrance which has a combination of saffron with vanilla, and it seems to have a lot more to it than that. Also, it seems to have good longevity. So far, I think that the most sensual note in perfumery is white grape and/or vetiver. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • macaroni023 says:

Emmanuelle really knows how to capture attention, I really enjoyed reading, especially the end part story. Also, the picture are right on point, I think the painting of tower of Babel is a great reference to this perfume, and it’s complexity. For me, ambroxan is the most sensual. Thank you for great review and the draw.
    I’m from Lithuania

  • Francois Henin is doing everything right, Jovoy is the best boutique worldwide, Jovoy fragrances are awesome, and Jeroboam project is different , and successful. Insulo stands out to me, and my taste.
Miksado think it would to be well blended musky scent , with woods , and certain levels of coziness.
Thanks to Michelyn for the information how she discovered Jeroboam , and Emmanuelle Varron for the review.
Rose is the most sensual note in perfumery.
Back and forth between USA and Scotland, two weeks in US -> two weeks in Scotland , and so on. Basically both USA and UK at the same time

  • I’d have to say that musk (the dirtier ones) would be my choice for the most sensual note. This was a fun review with the story evoking the sensuality that this perfume can bring out. I especially appreciated how it feels…the morning after, so to say!

I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • sephrenia300 says:

Wonderful review Emmanuelle! What I enjoyed most about the review was learning that all of the Jeroboam reviews were given Esperanto names, symbolizing the universality of perfume, and also learning that Miksado was inspired by the Esperanto word “Miks”, which means “the mixture.” I am very intrigued by perfumes that are studies in contrast like Miksado is, and a combination of fresh and leathery/spicy amber sounds curious and fascinating. I will definitely be seeking out a sample.

To me the note in perfumery you consider the most sensual is definitely jasmine. I live in the US.

  • Well its nice tel how the fragrance come to live and my most like note are cedar and followed by vanilla and sandalwood its great mix. I am in Sweden EU
