Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Review (Hamid Merati ) 2021 + Australian Agarwood Draw

Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods botanical collection

Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods detail via Goldfield & Banks

I met Creative Director Dimitri Weber at Esxence in Milan in  2019 and was impressed by his vision to showcase fragrances using botanicals native to Australia (for example the boronia of Southern Bloom and the mimosa of Golden Splendor (Sr. Contributor, Marianne Butler) and Blue Cypress ( Editor, Nicoleta Tomsa). Last year Sebastian did a review of Bohemian Lime (Finger Lime). Silky Woods is the first fragrance in the newly launched “Botanical Collection” and  another first— it uses Agarwood grown in the Daintree, Tropical North Queensland. Dimitri Weber shares the backstory for Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods (sustainable Australian agarwood aka Oud):Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods Review

Collage by Michelyn using photos Sebastian© from Dimitri Weber in Daintree Rainforest, Dimitri at the distillery Wescorp Growers of Agarwood in Far North Queensland.© Dimitri and agarwood© photo Dimitri Weber

In 2018, during a business trip in North Queensland Australia I was transfixed when I visited Agarwood plantations in the nation’s tropics. Mesmerised by the complexity of planting techniques and the sustainable methods applied to harvesting and extracting the precious and unique oil, I forged a friendship with Wescorp Growers of Agarwood in Far North Queensland. During my visit we smoked cigarettes with agarwood sticks that are as thin as tooth picks and that you slide into the cigarette. According to Chinese traditions it clears your lungs. Good to know is that the biggest users of Agarwood are the Chinese and not the people in the Middle East.-Dimitri Weber

Ingredients include Agarwood from Tropical Australia, Cinnamon from Ceylon, Tobacco Leaves, Ylang Ylang from Madagascar, Vanilla fromTahiti, Sandalwood from Australia, and Incense

  • I appreciate Michelyn highlighting the sustainability aspect of the Agarwood in this perfume! It is such an important thing to pay attention to these days. I was also shocked to know that China was a bigger consumer of this than the Middle East from Dimitri’s intro. Sebastian makes this sound extremely vanillic and suede-y and I would love to try this as my first Goldfield and Banks

Love this review and and sounds like a great date night fragrance! Thank You for the amazing content.

  • Alexander Schulte says:

I enjoyed Sebastian’s review because he likes the same fragrances I like, generally. The introductions lured the reader in and made the fragrance stand out from the rest.

  • Norcal_nose says:

Yes!! We need a new Vanilla frag! Sebastian makes this sound like a beautiful offering from G&B, I’d love to try it!

  • Petar Molnar says:

Sebastian is a seasoned profesional who I regard dearly and his reviews are the most anticipated videos I follow on Youtube.

And this Vanillic Silky Woods fragrance is something I’d love to try.

    Big hi from Croatia!

  • Love the review!
Due to the fact that I am as vanilla-addicted as he is, I think I will love that one.
Must say I haven’t heard of Goldfielda and Banks before, but now they are on the screen

  • I love Sebastian’s unbridled enthusiasm for vanilla. He makes me want to sniff whatever he is excited about. From the introduction here I enjoyed hearing about the personal interaction with the agarwood growers and that their growing and harvesting practice is sustainable. I have not tried a Goldfield & Banks fragrance yet. I live in Virginia, USA

  • Nicholas Micheletos says:

I love gourmands same as Sebastian and the way he described the scent has me exited! I also agree with Michelyn, having seen videos of the harvesting of Agarwood it really is a sight to be seen. I’ve tried Pacific Rock moss which I enjoy and thrown on during the hotter months. Fingers crossed from SF, CA.

  • vtilwani says:

Goldfield Banks is such a great niche house. Love how they incorporate native Australian notes and tell a story. Pacific Rock Moss is my favorite Aquatic fragrance. The sustainable native oud from Australia mentioned by Michelyn, to smoking Agarwood sticks by Dimitri, to finally Sebastian excitement of how is really enjoying this warm cozy vanillic fragrance with hints of incense and oud has sold me to get hands-on it in near future. A regular reader and subscriber of Sebastian’s youtube channel from Los Angeles, USA. Fingers crossed for the draw.

  • Warm and gooey.
That’s all I needed to hear.
Vanilla essential oils got me through my first years living where there is a winter and most trees shed their leaves.
The sent of vanilla helped me through those depressing times by making me feel warm.

  • Brad Woolslayer says:

I enjoyed hearing Sebastian describe the fragrance as having a smoky creamy caramel with wood shaving aspect. I enjoyed reading Michelyn and Dimitri mentioning the potential healing aspects of agarwood when smoked in a cigarette. I purchased the Goldfield and Banks discovery set and also own a full bottle of Pacific Rock Moss, which my wife and I both enjoy wearing and smelling on each other. I live in Maryland USA.

  • shussain99 says:

I love how Sebastian breaks down the fragrance from top to bottom. The notes, the performance, what it reminds him of. It allows viewers like me to understand if I will like a particular fragrance. For him to state its his favourite amongst the other great ones was really good to hear! Amongst these he also utilises pictures to show his viewers what he is trying to describe, especially being that my parents also watch his videos and his images really help in conveying the fragrance. The description of the fragrance being silky, vanillic, creamy and with woody facets and the bottle together really makes me believe I will enjoy this fragrance. Also, having tried the sample kit and enjoying all of them makes me believe this one will be a special one. The introduction really sets the scene for me. Mainly the tobacco description and he integrates this memory and feeling in this perfume. Particularly when he says “ According to Chinese traditions it clears your lungs” when talking about the tobacco and agarwood sticks felt super satisfying and would love to experience how he carried this over. I have bought a sample pack from goldfield and banks for my brother as a gift. From my memory I really enjoyed all of them but pacific rock moss, blue cypress and bohemian lime were exceptional stand outs! Would really love to try this one too. From the UK . Thank you!

  • Sandro Mateush says:

What a great combination of a beautiful notes – agarwood, cinnamon, tobacco, incense and lovely vanilla. My favourite notes. Gorgeous list! Sounds so deep & smooth.
Thanks Sebastian for a great review!
I’ve never tried a Goldfield & Banks fragrances.
    I’m from EU

  • Anna Darin says:

I’m a vanilla lover and have a sample of Silky Woods on the way to me as I write this. My favorite woodsy vanilla is Spiritueuse Double Vanilla, so I’m curious to see how this stacks up. I live in the Washington DC area.

  • There was no way that I was going to miss the chance of winning a bottle of perfume recommended by Sebastian. I’m a new subscriber to his page because of his love of fine scents.. As a registered nurse, this year has been difficult! But perfumes especially ones that use natural ingredients like Starwood which heals the lungs is outstanding!! I agree with the Chinese, and I’m glad that Dimitri and Michelyn have honored Australia enough to share Silky Woods with the world!

  • Interesting to learn that the Chinese were the biggest consumers of Agarwood. It would be interesting to experience an Oud grown in Australia. I’ve tried the original formulation of Pacific Rock Moss, loved the scent, but like many others wasn’t thrilled with the performance. Have been waiting to pick up one of the newer formulations that supposedly has better performance. Sebastian’s love for vanilla is well known. The way he describes the vanilla being coated with a dusting of woods makes this sound very interesting. Would love to try this! I live in California, USA.

  • Shaquille Rhoden says:

I am from New York, liked the way Sebastian described the fragrance as gooey, he made the fragrance sound almost edible. I like that they used ingredients native to Australia, having never been I feel like this would almost teleport me to Australia. I have never tried any of their fragrances but seeing other reviews on their previous fragrances I have wood infusion and pacific rock moss on my wishlist of fragrances I have or get.

  • santi rc says:

If it is sebastian’s favorite fragrance from Goldfield & Banks for me, that is enough guarantee. I really want to try the vanilla used in Silky Woods. By the way, I did not know that agarwood could be smoked as Dimitri said. Greetings from Spain.

  • tonitang2015@outlook.com says:

Vanilla is my ALL time favorite note and the majority of my perfume collection has vanilla in it. I’m really intrigued by Sebastian’s description of “vanilla sprinkled with wood dust” since I LOVE woody and leathery fragrance. The notes and the presentation of this perfume sound very cozy and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’ve never tried any G&B perfume and I hope that I will finally have the chance to do so.

  • I have been long time viewer of Sebastián Chanel and of course I bought a lot of things he recommended over the years. We moved from Seattle to Sydney and now I am exploring fragrances representing Australia this beautiful country I call home now. I love this video because I love gourmand fragrances. I personally have several: angle share by Kilian, black phantom by Kilian, charstle by pdm, changing constance by penhaligons. I would love to have a bottle from Australian exotic ingredients. I am also a lover of vanilla. I have both tobacco vannile and Ani. Thanks for the video and I will definitely explore the brand in Sydney.

  • twiggy3634 says:

I like that Sebastian says it’s his favorite from the house so you know it’s good. Interesting to know that the Chinese are the biggest consumers of oud, rather than the Middle East. Haven’t tried any from this house yet, even though Pacific Rock Moss has been on my test list for a while now. Cheers from Indiana.

  • I like that Goldfield and Banks uses ingredients found in Australia. The idea of inserting agarwood into cigarettes was interesting. One of my favs from this brand is Southern Bloom. Sebastian mentioned the caramelized vanilla vibe of Silky Woods. It sounds delicious to me also. Thanks for your thoughts! Mich USA

  • I loved Sebastian’s review (and all of his reviews) because of the way he describes scents. It helps me really get a feel for the experience of a perfume. I also loved learning about the agarwood sticks in cigarettes from Dimitri Weber. So cool! I’ve never tried a scent from Goldfields and Banks but I would love to! I’m in VA, USA

  • Rosa Calderón says:

I’m a huge fan of gourmand and currently vanilla is my favorite statement aroma. Once I saw the notification of a YouTube review of silky woods by Sebastian, I had to click since I’ve been curious because he’s always on point with his reviews. According to Sebastian, the fragrance is very caramelized, butterscotch vanilla with an oud experience. It definitely sounds perfect for a vanilla lover. I look forward to trying this fragrance. I would love to be considered for the giveaway and I live in the US.

  • Lynn Schmitz says:

Never tried this house and am on a fragrance journey! Love vanilla mmmmmm. I am playing with oud so the description of oud and vanilla sounds amazing. Love the bottle and would love to win a bottle! Sebastin like you I will never tire of all things vanilla. (US)

  • Zoran Loncarevic says:

Wow sounds like a wonderful smell. Thanks for the fantastic review, Sebastian. I only smell, till now , the Pacific Rock Moss and the Southern Bloom from Goldfield & Banks….
    Many greetings from Germany.

  • LorentzoP says:

I find that when Sebastian reviews a fragrance, his description gets to be very similar to my perception of that fragrance. He characterized this perfume as “butterscotch-y caramelized vanilla”, and this is very intriguing. If I get to try Silky Woods, it would be the first time that I experience an offering from this house. Commenting from Greece (EU).

  • Amaziz89 says:

Ingredients include Agarwood from Tropical Australia, Cinnamon from Ceylon, Tobacco Leaves, Ylang Ylang from Madagascar, Vanilla fromTahiti, Sandalwood from Australia, and Incense. The notes that Sebastian mentioned Vanilla, Oud and Incense are my favourite notes in perfumery so I am intrigued to try and see how it smells like on skin. A house that I have got experience with l am afraid. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Andrei Artimon says:

Really love to discover new house and scents . This one sounds like a winner to me . Would love to be on the winning ens of this one , new york , usa

  • fares456 says:

One thing I liked about Sebastian’s review who was his passion for vanilla which I’ve been finding to be a very attractive note recently I also like his description of the perfume because I have smelt it and can attest to how well-made and smooth it is. What I liked about Dimitri Webber’s introduction is his journey as a perfumer to use local ingredients and create a masterpiece with them. His comment about agarwood(oud) sticks being used to cleanse the lungs was interesting especially with what we know about cigarettes was he smoking organic/untainted tobacco? I wonder if there are any studies on what was mentioned. I live in NYC and I have tried many Goldfield & Banks fragrances. My favorite right now is Blue Cypress and Pacific Rockmoss, Refreshing and uplifting scents.

  • jrawblue24 says:

I would love to win this bottle, as I am just now docovering this house. I smelled “Blue Cypress,” and instantly put it on my “to get list.” I thought this would be the best scent from the house, as it is good, until I smelled “Pacific Rock Moss…,” OH MY GOD! I HAD to have it!! So, I end up buying them both recently. This bottle is intriguing as I’m liking this house, because I LOVE Vanilla in a scent… especially after smelling Pegasus from Parfums de Marly. Please, please, please give me this bottle, thank you!

  • Had no idea that agarwood was now being grown in Australia! Certainly didn’t know that smoking it clears your lungs according to Chinese traditions. Very glad to hear that sustainable methods are being used to harvest the material. Good on Dimitri. High praise from Sebastian too. Sounds great if it really is syrupy vanilla dusted with woods. Mmmmmm butterscotchyyyyyy I could sure go for some vanilla pudding right now… Loving the flashy gold bottle. Bohemian Lime my current favourite from GF&B! MI, USA

  • I really appreciate Sebastian reviews.
i really like the idea of vanilla with caramelised sugar and oud. I haven’t tried the perfume unfortunately. I hope I win it from Athens, Greece
    Thank you!

  • Derek Bedinghaus says:

I enjoyed Sebastians review and the fact that this fragrance jumped to the front of his list from Goldfield & Banks. I liked the fact that Dimitri forged a friendship with the growers of agarwood and did as they do smoking cigarettes with agarwood sticks in them. I live in Ohio, USA. I have only had the chance to try a clone of Pacific Rock Moss not the OG.

  • Michelyn gave a nice background of Goldfield and Banks perfumes and introduction to Dimitri. It was interesting to learn, as Dimitri did, that the biggest consumers of agarwood or oud are the Chinese and not Middle Easterners. From Sebastian’s review I learned that Silky Woods is a VERY vanillic perfume. I like oriental spicy, woody, and oud perfumes, but not a great fan of vanilla. But I respect Sebastian’s opinions and he seems to be a big fan of Silky Woods, so I just have to try it out. Not familiar with Goldfield and Banks brand, yet. Except for heavy vanilla in this perfume, I like all the other notes. Glad to hear it’s not tooth-rotting gourmand vanilla but instead smooth and cozy. Thanks for the review and draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Kelly O'Neal says:

I like the uncluttered background in Sebastians’ review video. I live in Virginia, USA. I’ve not yet tried any Goldfield and Backs Fragrance.

  • I love how Sebastian describes this to be such a yummy fragrance. He mentions it being a cold weather scent but here in the Pacific Northwest I’d be caught wearing it year round! Michelyn and Dimitri’s story line behind this fragrance -with inspiration from Tropical North Queensland, the agarwood specifically, has me tied in and dreaming about of visiting Australia.
I’ve tried owned a Goldfield & Banks fragrance but believe this would be a fantastic introduction to their house.

  • I just saw the Sebastian’s review !what can i say that i also love Vanilla too much in fragrances.
Thank you so much for This opportunity guys

  • This actually sounds great. Love agarwood and I love China, so win win.
    NY

  • According to Sebastian’s review, this fragrance seems like it is a high-quality vanilla and butterscotch scent experience with some woodiness, incense, and even an aromatic aspect to it. Dmitri Weber’s intro. inspired me to learn more about the harvesting and oil extraction of ingredients used in perfumery. Michelyn’s intro. was my intro. to this fragrance house, since I’ve only heard of them and I didn’t know anything about them. I haven’t tried any of their releases yet. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • Ah agarwood, one of the most beloved scents by my countrymen. And only discovered Goldfield & Banks recently And it has been such a surprise. I wood love to try their take on this scent. I live in France.

  • hgrant07 says:

Sebastian’s description of this fragrance is mouth watering! He had me at smoky, creamy caramel! I am a sucker for all things vanilla just like he is, so I find many of his fragrance recommendations spot on for my tastes. I liked how Michelyn talked about Dimitri’s vision to showcase fragrances using botanicals native to Australia. I had never heard of Goldfield and Banks before, and hoping Silky Woods may be my first!

  • I always love Sebastian’s videos and especially love the way he describes delicious fragrances like this. As a vanilla lover, I appreciate how he details the role of the supporting notes, like a “shaving of woods sprinkled on top,” to really give you an idea of how this fragrance feels. Plus, vanilla & woods is one of my favorite combos! What I enjoyed about Michelyn and Dimitri’s introductions is their focus on the origination of ingredients, especially in Dimitri’s piece. I loved how he incorporated some of the culture and history into his description, which really transported me to that landscape and to the world of Silky Woods! The only Goldfield & Banks fragrance I have tried is Pacific Rock Moss, which I really enjoyed. I’d love to also try Pacific Lime and would LOVE to try Silky Woods. Sweet, woody, spicy fragrances will always have my heart.

  • Surprised to learn that Agarwood can be smoked – really fascinating and can’t deny that I want to try it now although I don’t smoke. Also didn’t know about Australian Agarwood harvest so definitely curious about that and Sebastian’s description of non-syrupy vanilla has totally captivated my attention. Would love to to try this delicious woody fragrance.

  • I have never tried one of their perfumes before but with such a lovely description, and really the fact that it is full of vanilla and woody notes, I think this would be a scent I would enjoy. I always appreciate Sebastian’s information and descriptions as I rely on these when determining if a scent might be good for me to try. In the USA.

I don’t think I’ve ever learned more about a company ethos than I did in these intros. Sustainability and regional representation is so important for ecologically responsibility, and it’s exciting to see in a fragrance company. Sebastian’s review, as usual, paints a tactile and visual image of what this fragrance is about- and piqued my interest in a company I hadn’t heard of previously! Excited to explore!

  • Mahmoudreza taghizadeh says:

I’m int the cozy fragrances and i tried desert rosewood from the brand which I really liked i wanna discover more from the brand, sebastian is great as always n he fast bout new releases. I do live in naples, italy

I love oud and the sustainability issue troubles me. So, this is an exciting thing! Thanks for bringing out attention to this release/house. Haven’t tried any from this house. Hope to do so. In Maine, USA

  • Bubeto_GG says:

I do like the fact Dimitri Weber is using a lot of local ingredients. Australian niche brands are killing it lately. Goldfield and Banks, Map of the Heart , Fort & Manle and Grandiflora are leading the way.
Like most, my first touch with Goldfield & Banks fragrances was with the famous Pacific Rock Moss , their most famous fragrance. I don’t find it masculine, but leaning more feminine instead.
It’s fun and happy hot weather fragrance, Silky Woods is the winter counterpart of it , just by watching Sebastian video, i feel like I’m having a caramel cravings , and need to stuff myself to the fullest
Silky Woods I’ll sample 100% , quality gourmands are not easy to find.
Out of curiosity bought the discovery set for £30 while in Scotland, not sure how much it costs in US.I strongly recommend getting it directly from Goldfield and Banks website, and not from online boutiques. When you get it from GB website you get coupon code for £30 , for the future purchase of 100ml bottle. Pretty sure Goldfield and Banks run the same discovery set promo for the US market.
No doubt Dessert Rosewood is my favorite . It’s deep, rich, full and balsamic. Not only smells great, but it’s the most powerful Goldfield and Banks fragrance. It’s a loud one , no doubt about it. I have a feeling Silky Woods will be just as good, if not better.
Thanks to Sebastian , and to Goldfield & Banks for the opportunity
Back and forth between USA and Scotland, two weeks in US -> two weeks in Scotland, and so on. Basically both USA and UK at the same time

  • Sebastian just make me want this fragrance. I love vanilla too. Michelyn wrote a mesmerizing review. Dimitri is talented and humble contributor to the fragrance community.
I live in Puerto Rico and I love to wear Bohemian Lime.

  • Kyla Sauer says:

“How can anyone love vanilla to much?!” Exactly. I am a lover vanilla and agarwood.
I have never tried a Goldfield & Banks before. I have heard of the brand but I have never gotten the opportunity to smell them. I love that they are using native botanicals from Australia.

  • Elizabeth says:

Goldfield & Banks is the answer to my perfume prayer. As an Aussie bush baby I’ve always loved the smell of our bush, especially our scented natives . I’ve used Boronia oil as a perfume since the 70s because I’m obsessed with it. I’m just beginning to explore perfumery in depth and Sebastian is one of my favourite reviewers. I trust his nose so will definitely blind buy this one as I have others he’s recommended. I enjoyed reading the back story of Silky Woods from Michelyn and Dimitri. Two days ago I added Southern Bloom to the list of perfumes I must have for winter and now I’m torn. Silky Woods or Southern Bloom? It’s now both

  • Michael Werno says:

I really enjoyed Sebastian’s description of the vanilla and caramel mixed with the woods in this fragrance. I also enjoyed learning about smoking cigarettes with agarwood sticks and how the Chinese believe it clears the lungs from the introduction. Goldfield & Banks is a great house, I’ve tried many in the line but Bohemian Lime and Pacific Rock Moss are my favorite. I live in NY, USA.

  • I highly respect sustainable agriculture and eco friendly growers of all types. It’s good to know there’s natural botanical element from Australia here as well. Sebastian seemed impressed and as he’s stated it’s his favorite offering from G&B thus far. As a strong vanilla lover this is right up my alley and would love try it.

  • Kate Fagan says:

Silky Woods sounds like the dreamiest fragrance a I’ve never smelled! Sebastian’s review of a gorgeous smokey vanilla with a dusting of wood sounds absolutely heavenly. The agarwood’s effect of clearing your lungs according to Chinese tradition sounds like it would perfectly compliment the vanilla. Vanilla, to me, has the most relaxing effect on my spirit. All of my favorite fragrances feature a vanilla note. I have never tried any Goldfield and Banks fragrances but the name alone is captures my attention—it sounds so classic! Furthermore, I seem to be a fan of everything that comes from Australia so I can’t wait to try the whole botanical collection—starting of course with Silky Woods!

  • I must admit I did not expect vanilla to play a major role in the composition, given the name though the inclusion of agarwood fits the name and the theme. I am in US.

  • Between the descriptions of sustainable ingredients (agarwood plantations!) and Sebastian’s enthusiasm (vanilla!) I am now excited to try this. I haven’t sampled any of the Goldfield & Banks offerings and I would like to remedy that with Silky Woods. I’m in the US.

  • Giselle Janssen says:

Hi, I do not have any Goldfield and Banks perfumes in my collection but I am becoming more and more curious about this house. I love vanilla fragrances and the bottle of silky woods is absolutely gorgeous. I like your detailed description of the scent and passion for this fragrance. I would love to be get the opportunity to try this one! Price tag is a bit high..Thanks for considering my comment, .Bay Area,CA

The usage of local ingredients is a good idea, and a nice way to promote your business.
You also hire , or work with locals , which is helpful for the community, it makes you less dependable from distributors , and bigger corporations.
Silky Woods is my kind of fragrance, gooey modern gourmand, with woods and tobacco. One of the very first recipe every trainee, who wants to become Pastry Chef learns, is traditional
Caramel Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, exactly what Sebastian review of Silky Woods reminded me of.
Pacific Rock Moss is great for the hot weather, i have a bottle.
Appreciate Michelyn intro, Sebastian review, and the giveaway campaign.

  • All hail Vanilla fragrances! Sebastian made me drool a little with the description of Silky Woods. Really enjoy Bohemian Lime, would love to have this one as well. Also, I didn’t know Chinese smoke cigars? I know we Asian smokes cigarette but not cigars. Thanks for that introduction Michelyn. Texas, USA

  • Sebastian is one of my favorite because he is honest and we have. very. similar taste in fragrance

  • Sebastian is such an informative fragrance reviewer! He looks and sounds so trusting and honest that you believe everything he says about a fragrance, I know I do! If he says it’s just great I know its something I have to have 100%! Dimitri and Michelyn Webers intro was like a brief biology and social studies class that I would stay awake for! Lol!

  • Shelby Jacob says:

The Goldfield & Banks packaging and bottle design always stood out to me while window shopping but I never thought they were a legitimate brand until I watched Sebastian’s review of Silk Woods. I love how he introduces me to niche brands, which I’m glad he exposed me to G&B. I enjoyed reading about how the brand draws inspiration from its local flora since I worked as a botanist assistant years ago. And who knew you could smoke agarwood!? Demetri seems really fun. I’m glad I clicked the link and read the article even if I don’t win the giveaway. I feel a personal connection through our appreciation for botany.

I live in Dallas and I’ve never owned a G&B fragrance.

  • wilsonwc76 says:

This sounds wonderful! I love that it’s a woody vanilla and that Sebastian also loves it. I love that it’s a sustainable wood and one that I’m not familiar with. And I love this house! I’m in NYC.

  • Claumarchini says:

I am not familiar with Goldfield & Banks so I’d love to try this fragrance. The notes are really precious and it was interesting to know about sustainable Agarwood from Australia and about China being the country where Oud is most used. It’s always a pleasure to listen to Sebastian, I seem to understand he loves vanilla? LOL! I was really surprised to hear that vanilla is really prominent, because from the notes you wouldn’t tell…I am not a big fan of oud when it is too strong while I love incense and tobacco so I think I would enjoy this fragrance! Greetings from Italy

  • Sebastian’s review made Silky Wpods sound amazing to me. I love vanilla also and the way he described the vanilla being silky smooth caramelized and with the wood shavings on top with touches of the other notes and a creamy vanillic sandalwood drydown sounds wonderful. He’s great at painting a picture in my mind of what a fragrance may be like. From the introduction its great to learn that this agarwood is being sustainably sourced and in Australia as Goldfield and Banks loves to highlight the natural materials found in their home country. The part about smoking cigarettes with a Garwood sticks in them was really cool and interesting too, I’d actually like to try that. Id also love to try Silky Woods. Ive not yet tried any Goldfield and Banks fragrances but certainly would like to. Thanks for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • Pomme de Terrier says:

The commitment to local materials was nice to see, and the detail that China has a long tradition of agarwood – had no idea! I associated oud as a largely ME tradition so appreciated learning something new.

In the US and have not yet tried G&B though it is on the list now.

  • It was very interesting to read Michelyn and Dimitri’s introduction and to find out that smoking agarwood is considered to be beneficial in the Chinese tradition.
Sebastian also once again described this fragrance aptly and wonderfully as a caramelly, woody, gooey vanilla, with this wonderful pinch of Australian agarwood. Would definitely love to try that.

Sustainable way Goldfield and Banks are using for the harvesting, and extracting the Agarwood oil is a nice example of both investing in your future, and being in piece with the nature.
Silky Woods creamy sandalwood, caramel and tobacco is combination I’d like to try .
Pacific Rock Moss i received for my birthday, and i’m loving it. Half of my second bottle is already empty.
Thanks to Sebastian and Michelyn , and also Goldfield and Banks for the giveaway.

  • I enjoyed the word “vanilla” in sebastian’s video

And the introduction reminded me of a family trip to port Douglas visiting the Daintree rainforest

    Amazing times

    In Melbourne, Australia

    Never tried a G&B fragrance.

  • ANDREEA ELENA TIMOFTE says:

I really like Sebastian, I am watching his videos for a while now.
Caramelised vanilla???? Can we eat, or better said, drink this perfume?
I really live vanilla in fragrances, I have never heard of Goldfield&Banks fragrances…unfortunately.
I like the packaging, very nice….
    I live in London, UK.

  • Cinnamon and ylang is a combination to die for! I would love to try this one, it sounds amazing for my tastes in fragrances. I’m currently in Romania.

  • I like it how thay speaks passionetly about this fragrance that I wish to try it.
People say that vanilla smelling parfums are mostly for women, but I like good vanilla smell on me as a man. Vanilla is one of my favorite notes. It reminds me of desserts. And also, believe it or not, it reminds me of frankincense with vanilla from mountain Atos, that we Orthodox Christians sometimes use.
    P. S. If you decide to ship in EU I would like to participate in giveaway.
    Thanks.

  • Tobacco, oud and vanilla – sounds wonderful! I’ve never tried G&B but hear that they have some solid fragrances. I love how Sebastian breaks down the notes. I enjoyed learning about the botanical collection and agarwood by Michelyn and Dimitri. I’ll have to get a sample of this one! USA

So I’ve never been to Australia is the Garwood silky or is it silky because it clears the lungs? Would have liked to know more about the Chinese cigarettes and how many were smoked. I’veer tried any Goldfield and Banks. I’m a newbie to niche fragrances. I enjoy Sebastian reviews because he’s straight to the point and his opinion isn’t based on samples or paper sniffs. He made me reconsider my love for vanilla!

Super love the review so bad because I am a vanilla perfume person ❤️❤️ The introduction as well is amazing because it makes me wanna dive into Silky Woods perfume mygosh ✨ I have not yet tried any Goldfield & Banks fragrance yet so if given the chance to win, I would really appreciate it in the bottom of my vanilla lover heart ❤️ I’m from the “Pearl of the Orient Seas, PHILIPPINES ❤️ Much love

  • I liked how Sebastian summarized the scent into “simple” words so that we can imagine what it’s all about: “Vanilla with wood shavings”, that spoke to me and I’m all for it!
I appreciate Dimitri’s story which shows his genuine passion for his art, that goes way beyond the pure commercial or artistic aspect. He tries to understand history, culture, heritage and also add sustainability in to the mix to close the loop, that’s amazing. The fact that he was invited to this special moment of smoking cigarettes, tells a lot about his relationship to the growers.
From Goldfield and Banks I had samples of Velvet Splendour, White Sandalwood and Desert Rosewood. I like them all, but my favorite is Velvet Splendour. I live in Romania (EU). Thanks for the draw!

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s breakdown of the composition of Silky Woods. I really like vanilla with a woody vibe to it. Dimitri and Michelyn expressed abn appreciation for perfume ingredients native to Australia, which excites me, being a resident of Australia

  • I always watch Sebastian’s videos before making any new perfume purchases. Silky woods was beautifully described and sounds like something I will enjoy wearing.

  • I really liked Sebastian’s unabashed enthusiasm for vanilla! I’ve tried and enjoyed G&B’s Pacific Rock Moss; this sounds at least as good. From Ireland.

  • I really enjoyed Sebastians description of the vanilla, I was concerned that it would be a more sickly sweet type, but the way he described it be mellowed with the woodsy scents makes it seem really attractive. I’ve currently own pacific rock moss, and I’ve been super curious to grips other scents by goldfield and banks. I live in Washington DC

  • I fully agree with Sebastian: Who doesn´t like vanilla? I like it in kitchen and also in perfume. In scents have much more facets than in dishes. Michelyn introduces us to the brand and we learn about the agarwood growers in Queensland, and sustainability of their harvesting practice , which should be a must in modern perfumery. And it is a surprise that agarwood could be smoked and has lung benefits as Mr. Weber said. But the review of Sebastian shows us there is more than Vanilla, even more than vanilla with wood shavings… caramelized butterscoth, incense, tobaco leaves and some tamed oud.I have not heard neither tried a Goldfield & Banks fragrance yet. I live in Spain EU

  • Jason DErcola says:

I love that Sebastian defended his love of vanilla in his review of “Silky Woods.” I, too, am a vanilla lover, and I agree with him that it’s very cozy.

  • I’m on board with Sebastian! I’ve just recently come across Sebastians Youtube channel when looking for Patchouli fragrances…guess I’m considered a Patch Ho too! Watched his video on Patchouli fragrances, recently purchased Pychedelique by Jovoy- and I love it! But I’m thinking Silky Woods will be next on my list to purchase! Thank you Sebastian!

  • I’ve just recently started exploring the world of fragrances. So far, I’ve been sticking to more citrus-based fragrances since that was what I initially liked and have been hesitant to branch out of that. I’ve been afraid especially of trying something more gourmand, but I love Sebastian’s reviews since he’s so open to all types of scents and makes me want to try new fragrances. I loved this review especially since his description of the vanilla and caramel scents vividly portrayed the feeling of warmth and comforting sweetness. As for the introduction from Michelyn and Dimitri, I appreciated how they spoke to where ingredients are sourced from and their role in cultural traditions. The background they provided adds more depth to the perfume than just the actual scent itself. It becomes so much more evocative of various imagery and scenery that can go along with the scent.

I have yet to try any Goldfield & Banks fragrances unfortunately.
    With love from Los Angeles.

  • Hello I’m Active Duty Air Force and I love this House (even though I’ve only smelled two profiles ) I’m definitely spreading the word to all my younger troops because they ask me all the time “What do I have On” and is it something we can purchase at the BASE EXCHANGE (NOOOO☺️)Definitely keep up the great work it’s much appreciated, trust me! ️What a GREAT & DESCRIPTIVE REVIEW, this makes me want to blind purchase this ASAP!

  • DespinaVnt says:

It was most interesting learning about agarwood plantations in Australia by Michelyn’s and Dimitri’s intro (not to mention reading about those lung-clearing cigarettes!)
Sebastian’s emphasis on the gourmand vibe of this otherwise richly woody composition captured my interest.
I haven’t yet had the chance to try any of the brand’s fragrances.

  • I’m in for some vanilla heaven. I like the idea of cinnamon in this too. US

  • lillian33 says:

This one sounds absolutely scrumptious! Sounds like a beautiful everyday fragrance. Sebastian has enticed me with this one. Given how much I adore vanilla, I am sure I will love this too! Greetings from CT, USA.

  • epipremnum says:

Sebastian does the most evocative descriptions of perfume! I love how he described the butterscotch and caramel nuances, and the idea of vanilla sprinkled with wood made me want to get my credit card out… The idea from the introduction that really captured my imagination is cigars with agarwood sticks – how unusual!
I live in the UK and am a fan of the house of Goldfield & Banks – they really deliver amazing fragrances time and time again. I really love Pacific Rock Moss (but who doesn’t?), it instantly transports me into summer days; I can almost feel the sun on my skin and hear the waves in the background, the salty air all around me, hiding in my hair… I also love Bohemian Lime, even though (at least on me) it leans quite masculine, I wear it often and it makes me feel like a boss lady. This and Hermes Caleche are definitely my war paint for the days when I need all of my confidence.
Another favourite for me is Desert Rosewood. I smell it and feel the heat of the desert sun, the precious rosewood oils evaporating into the dry air, and I wish I was somewhere in Australia.

  • wandering_nose says:

Michelyn’s intro puts the story of Silky Woods into a welcome context, Dimitri’s backstory is super informative (I was delighted to learn it is the Chinese and not the Middle East peoploe who use the most agarwood). As to Sebastian’s review – the title itself had me sold on Silky Woods, and his description of this oriental – spicy beauty got me hooked even more. When he says this is his type of fragrance, I know it’s my type too. Smooth, caramelized butter-scotch-y vanilla coated with a dusting of wood shavings and some incense’y ashiness – I need this in my life asap!
I have not tried any Goldfield & Banks perfumes but would so love to! Thank you from the Republic of Ireland, EU

  • Sebastian always breaks down a fragrance in precise detail. The notes, the performance and everything the fragrance reminds him of. This really helps me understand whether I will like the fragrance or not.

I was expecting vanilla when I saw the name Silky Woods. I am a big fan of vanilla and the soft, smooth texture it tends to have. Both the introduction and the review of the fragrance really makes me believe I will enjoy this a lot.

I have tested Bohemian Lime and Pacific Rock Moss but haven’t purchased full bottles yet. I would love to try Silky Woods

    Grettings from the UK.

Wonderful review Sebastian! I love that Goldfield and Banks uses Australian botanicals in their formulations. The mimosa, boronia and agar wood sound like a great combination. I’ve never tried ant Goldfield and Banks fragrances. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • Like Sebastian’s reference to vanilla with a dusting of woods. Definitely like the info and preferences of botanicals sustained in Australia. Who doesn’t like a vanilla fragrance.

  • Alvis Leung says:

Love the review! I have not yet tried any fragrances by GOLDFIELD & BANKS, so it will be great if I have a chance to try!

  • I like it from first sight 🙂 The notes and the presentation are my favorite. Thanks, Michelyn and Dimitri for your nice introduction, I did not know that there is an Agarwood from Tropical Australia and the biggest users of Agarwood are the Chinese not the people in the Middle East. I wanna smoke cigarettes with an agarwood stick ;). Vanilla with a dust wood presented in a background of Oud, tobacco, and incense. I’m sure that Sebastian found his passion for vanilla in Silky Woods … I can’t wait to smell this wonderful blend. Silky Woods is my first fragrance from Goldfield & Banks Australia to know. I hope to have it one day. Regards from EU.

  • Dylan Trn says:

I’m a big fan of vanilla note and gourmand fragrance in general. If Sebastian, who is loves vanilla note, enjoys this one, I’d love to try it as well. Thank you for the great review.
    Greetings from Houston, TX.

  • This sounds interesting! Thanks for the review Sebastian! Please count me in. Europe.

  • As always, Sebastian tempts us with another wonderful review, his description is mouth watering. I had not heard about Michelyn and Dimitri Weber, it’s interesting to read about where does the inspiration for the different components has originated from.
I have never tried a Goldfield & Banks fragrance, hopefully that will change soon.
    Based in the UK.

Great review from Sebastian as usual. I was in a shop that had this lovely bottle on the counter, but I didn’t try it on skin as I was more interested in more warm weather fragrances. His review made me sorry I didn’t try it as the shop isn’t close and I don’t go there often. I don’t smoke, but I would try this interesting cigarette with the oud toothpick inside. I was surprised the Middle East isn’t the biggest consumer of our. I have not tried anything from this line. Thanks or the chance. USA.

  • Vanilla dusted with springle of woods sounds comfortind and warm , i would very much to try Goldfield &Banks Silky Woods, Thanks for the draw, from Romania!

  • KMBfragrance says:

I loved hearing Sebastian chuckle about how people say he loves vanilla too much. Also, the fragrance sounds absolutely gorgeous. I live in the USA. I haven’t tried any Goldfield and Banks fragrances, but they’ve definitely been on my radar.

  • The way Sebastian talks about Silky Woods makes me imagine that this is a beautifully orchestred fragrance. From what he said, I assume that Silky woods has a plush, velevety atmosphere that captures the warmth of Australia. Just like in a baroque painting, there is a dark background ( given by incense, tobacco ) and in the front is the main character, a bright, luminous, heavenly vanilla.
What I liked in Mychelin’s and Dimitri’s introduction is the emphasis not just on the sustainable Agarwood, but the sustainable approach in general of the brand and the fact that Goldfield & Banks highlights the uniqueness of Australia’s local flora. Even tough it might sound strange, my favourite fragrance from Goldfield & Banks is not Pacific Rock Moss ( don’t get me wrong, it’s a great marine perfume), but Velvet Splendour. Why? Because it’s floral-powdery scent unlike many I tried. On my skin the drydown gets earthy, enveloping; a warm powdery which covers the skin in a cozy blanket of petals.
    Kind regards from Romania, EU!

“Do we need another vanilla fragrance?”
Rhetorical question, sure we do , if it’s high end niche one .
Silky Woods is a fragrance I have to sample ASAP . Caramel , woods and tobacco, I just can’t miss it.
My favorite Goldfield and Banks is Southern Bloom. It is unique , but proper testing is a must. It’s chameleon type of fragrance-changes a lot depending of the weather , humidity …. Also if it’s rainy and hot at the same time i get strong red wine smell from it. Do not blind-buy it , but sample first.I personally love it , but some may not.
Sustainability of the Oud , Goldfield and Banks are producing themselves shows how dedicated they are to secure the future of the company, and potentially even sell some to others in the industry.
I already follow Cafleurebon, Sebastian and Goldfield and Banks on Instagram
    Thank you
USA only, hopefully not for too long

  • This has all the best notes. It sounds delicious, especially how Sebastian described it in his review: dripping, caramel like vanilla with touches of incense and hints of oud, leather and safron. Wow!

I really enjoy about Sebastian review (like with all of his reviews) that he is so on point with his descriptions that you can almost smell the perfume.
Dimitri Weber’s introduction also really gives you insight in which place captured his inspiration for this one.

    Greetings from GER, EU

  • I love Sebastian’s reviews. And as Sebastian said – it is creamy- woody perfumes- sounds beautiful. I like agarwood, but can not say all kinds of oud combinations.
I am not familiar with Goldfield & Banks perfumes.
    USA

  • Interesting to learn that the Chinese were the biggest consumers of Agarwood- I thought Middle East )))
Love Sebastian videos! It’s great that he loves Vanilla as me
If this agarwood has caramel sides I would love it.
    I haven’t tried any G&B yet.
    US

  • I appreciate the spotlight on the sustainable agarwood being grown in Australia and the commitment Goldfield & Banks has made to source native ingredients. I believe it sets them apart from many other niche houses.I also had no idea you could smoke agarwood! I can’t imagine how that tastes!

The part that I loved about Sebastian’s review was how excited he was about Silky Woods. I can see how he feels about a fragrance through his body language and in his review he was especially animated and his eyes were sparkling! As a fellow lover of woody vanilla fragrances, I am dying to try this fragrance! Southern Bloom is my current favorite fragrance from the house!

Thank you for such a generous giveaway!
    Washington State, USA

  • The discussion of ingredients grown in Australia is interesting; the detail about smoking agarwood in a cigarette is novel to me; and Sebastian’s review is very helpful. It’s good to know that this is so vanilla-heavy, maybe even gourmandesque(?). And if it stands out so much to Sebastian, it must be really something! (USA)

  • Admirable business strategy
Goldfield and Banks are promoting the business as both local, and environmental friendly – smart, productive and allows local farmers to prosper , instead of buying all from billions of dollars mega-corporations . I always try to buy locally, from trusted sources, especially the food.
Marianne Butler Southern Bloom review on Cafleurebon was so nice, I was like “Ok it’s time to pull the trigger for the Goldfield and Banks sample set”. LuckyScent sells it for $42+$4 shipping. Not a bad deal for 7 samples, all 2ml. I’m not sure if the price is still the same, because of the additional two samples- Bohemian Lime and Silky Woods. Decadent fragrance with the local agarwood, rich vanilla , tobacco , and incense , is mouthwatering good, my stomach started rumbling with all the Silky Woods caramel talking.
Thanks for the introduction , and the draw

Know about G&B’s fresh offerings but excited to try this creamy vanilla. One of my favorite notes.

  • IvanVelikov says:

I’m not sure if Australia is really rough and gritty place , tropical paradise, or something in between, but I can tell it’s a beautiful country with perfume ingredients you can’t find anywhere else. Australian boronia , tropical sandalwood and so on . With all the sustainability Goldfield and Banks i think found the fine line between the people, being environmentally friendly and the profit. Good job.
Silky Woods is delicate , upscale woody oriental , exotic vanilla and tobacco leaves, saffron, and Australian sandalwood. If someone wonders why releasing such oriental for the summer, don’t forget Australia is in the northern hemisphere, it’s late Autumn over there.
Pacific Rock Moss I’ve tried, at one point the whole Internet was talking about it. I do like it a lot.
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Michael Prince says:

I loved Michelyn and Dimitri Weber’s introduction on visiting the Queensland Austrailia Oud from the Daintree Rain Forests and learning first hand how oud is harvested and extracted there. I loved Sebastian’s detailed review of Silky Woods. I can tell based on his review this would be my favorite offering from Goldfield and Banks as well. A silky, smooth, gooey, caramelized vanilla dominant fragrance with accents of incense, spices, leather, tobacco, and wood shavings thrown in this sounds like absolute heaven. As of right now my favorite Goldfield and Banks fragrance is Bohemian Lime. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • deiyanfott says:

I like the way Sebastian is being true to himself and doing what he loves (I also love vanilla!!!) I just sample Silky Woods before watching your review and your thoughts are same as mine. I was expecting a smooth strong woody aroma but what I got was a burst of vanilla. Before I was torn between Pacific Rock Moss and Wood Infusion but this immediately took first spot as my favourite Goldfield and Banks fragrance. I was supposed to order a full bottle but I saw this giveaway so hopefully I can this as a freebie instead.

I am glad the raw material Agarwood used, as Michelyn mentioned, is a sustainable resource. And thanks to Dimitri, I am now researching how Agarwood used in smoking can clear lungs.

    Greetings from Singapore

I really love vanilla fragrances. I currently have mercedes club black, spicebomb extreme, and would love to try Silky Woods by Goldfield & Banks!! Always enjoying your reviews.

  • Thanks for your generous giveaway. I most liked from the introduction the explanation that G & B showcases botanicals native to Australia. From Sebastian’s video, his description of the overall smell of the fragrance gave me a better idea of how it smells rather than just reading a list of ingredients. I never would have guessed that Silky Woods is predominantly a caramelized vanilla with a bit of woods/oud for depth. I have not tried any from the house yet. KY, USA.

  • petergigov says:

There’s a famous saying “The home is where the heart is” , Dimitri Weber obviously found his home in Australia.
Coincidence or not a few days ago I saw a documentary about Aquilaria being endangered.Remarkably to me, only 30-35% of the world demand for wood is effectively met, and is likely to continue to grow as it’s getting harder to come by.
In conclusion, with their own agarwood harvesting Goldfield and Banks are investing in a precious , and much in demand natural resource, sustainable and socially responsible move , while enhancing the value of their own capital to create additional income .
I’m glad Silky Woods is a grown up, but modern gourmand, still there’s nothing childish and plasticy about it. Top of the line quality only ingredients, well made , my expectations are pretty high, it’s obvious even Sebastian is impressed.
Not only tried, but i own Goldfield and Banks fragrance called Desert Rosewood, best of the bunch i smelled prior … you know what.
    Overly exciting giveaway, USA

  • VANILLA!!!! I loved this review! Sebastian talked about how it is very vanilla dominant and it sounds delicious!

The interview/article makes me want to try this perfume house. I love that the perfumers use botanicals native to Australia. The Agarwood plantations sound breathtaking. I did not know that Chinese traditions say smoking cigarettes with agarwood sticks clear your lungs!

Sebastians review was perfect, i was intrigued by Silky Woods before but his review made me want to try it even more. I loved the information that Michelyn and Dimitri explained. I live in New Castle Delaware, USA. I have tried a few Goldfield and Banks fragrances. I own Pacific Rock Moss, had a sample of Bohemian Lime that I loved and plan on getting a bottle for summer. I also have samples coming of Southern Bloom.

I enjoyed Sebastian’s review so much that I picked up a sample of this fabulous new fragrance. Sebastian has a way of hitting on all the right notes as to how a fragrance may wear and how the notes may play together to create a great composition. It is interesting to learn about the composition as far as the ingredients and sustainability of those ingredients. I’m interested in trying other fragrances like Southern Bloom that feature elements that are native to Australia. I have tried Pacific Rock Moss in the past and enjoyed that as well. 😀
