Memo Paris Argentina Review (Alienor Massenet) + Sexy Tango Draw

Memo Paris Argentina review

Memo Paris Argentina photo by Olya©

Perfumes that are deep and dark and sensuous always make me sit up and take notice. But Memo Paris Argentina has me humming “La Cumparsita”. It is sexy as all get-out, but not carnal in an animalic way. Inspired by the passion and mystery of the Tango, there is no doubt that a voluptuously confident rose is leading this dance. The design of the bottle pictures the passing of the flower between two hornero birds (the national bird of Argentina and Uruguay). Hornero birds are dull in color but are famous for their songs. The rapid trill is part of their mating duet… much faster in the male and slower in the female and their wings beat at their sides at the same rate as their singing and evoke the magic realism of one of the most famous literary works of our time, One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia-Marquez.

what is the tango

Unsplash Tango Photo by Preillumination SeTh

One of the first recorded uses of the word Tango in Argentina was in the late 19th century. It is believed to be a mixture of the Cuban dance habanera, the Argentine milonga, and the Uruguayan candombe. Memo Paris Argentina conveys the perfect rhythm and raw passion of the Tango as opulent rose is locked in a fervent embrace with  resinous oud, surrounded by the flowers of magnolia and jasmine in full bloom. There is a pink pepper note in the opening, which lends a green astringency. It reminds me of the traditional Mate, which is one of the most popular drinks in the region. It is made from Yerba Mate, infusing the water with a slight bitter green flavor similar to the green tea.  Although the fragrance’s initial impression is loud and vibrant, upon touching the skin it slowly mellows into a soft, slightly soapy floral laying on a bed of woods, as if completely spent by the passionate dance.

Memo Paris Argentina review

Photo Of Olya by Olya Bar©

When wearing Memo Paris Argentina, I imagine being ushered into an underground lounge where black velvet benches line the walls, whispers of conversations swirl in the candlelight, and cocktails are being poured into the crystal flutes glistening on the mahogany bar. Everything around me is a deep shade of crimson. I feel like a voyeur  as I watch the lone couple on the dance floor, oblivious to all others in the smoky club and moving in such a way that the pleasure of their embrace is indistinguishable from the pain of separation. Memo Paris Argentina is the scent of a dangerous but oh so seductive attraction.

Official notes: Pink pepper, Essence of Rose, Rose Absolute, Jasmine Sambac Absolute, Egyptian Jasmine Absolute, Magnolia oil, Cypriol, Oud.

Other perceived note:  Mate

  • It seems Memo Argentina is a sensual fragrance which is apt given the cultural inspiration behind the fragrance. I did not know yerbamate smells like green tea. I do have Villoresi Yerbamate in which Yerbamate seems to be the central note. My fav. from Memo is African Leather. I am in US.

  • Playful , maybe even lustful fragrance with voluptuous rose , mate and woody experience .
In my early 20s I was taking Tango classes twice per week, Images of me being dancing with velvet burgundy dress came to mind , like the one Olya is wearing.
I so want to try Argentina … now .
My husband owns French Leather by Memo , and now i’m using it from time to time,so you could say i own it . I’ve never smelled anything else from Memo , but I should to catch up .
I’m happy to see Olya here 🙂
    Cheers from VA

  • I’m a big fan of almost every fragrance from Memo Paris, and the Leathers series are particular favorites. I’m also a fan of Mme Massenet’s works, so I’m very excited to read this review!

Deep, dark, sensuous, as is the tango, the dance of the passion of lovemaking. Interesting parallel to Yerba Mate, that really has me intrigued now.

I can absolutely see and feel that scene in the nightclub – this sounds incredibly voluptuous!

Thank you to Eden Square for their generosity.

  • Olya painted a very vivid picture of how wearing Memo Paris Argentina would be like. It seems to be a very seductive perfume with notes of oud, rose, and jasmine. My experience with Memo Paris is with African Leather, which is a lovely perfume. I liked the review and the beautiful pictures. Thanks for the review and a generous draw of Memo Paris Argentina. Writing from the USA.

Makes me want to take dancing lessons. Love the bottle!!! I hope it is not too soapy. My favorite from Memo is Italian Leather. I have several on a list from Memo to try when I am on vacation in Florida. (I don’t have a local stockist). Thanks for the chance. USA.

  • So interesting to learn the origins of the Tango and loved that Memo Paris Argentina’s deep and dark and sensuous. Fabulous bottle and photos as well as this review makes me want dance

  • GennyLeigh says:

Nice review Olya! The rose, jasmine and magnolia let me know this is going to be an opulent, sensuous floral scent. The perceived Mate sounds like a welcome bit of herbal astringency which keeps the blend from veering too far into bouquet territory. I love the bottle and the association with the Argentinian tango. Commenting from MD, USA.

  • KMBfragrance says:

The connection between fragrance and other art forms (including dance) is always an easy way to hook me. The idea of astringency softening into gentle soapiness is appealing as well. I haven’t yet tried any Memo fragrances, but I have them on my list. I live in Missouri USA.

  • Thank you, Olya, for sharing the story of the hornero birds. They are beautiful. Their image makes me want to touch the bottle of Argentina. I can imagine holding it and enjoying the dance of rose and jasmine in this perfume, those familiar partners that bring something new to every performance. I’ve not yet tried a perfume from Memo Paris, so no favorite scent to share. Perhaps Argentina might be the one? Thank you to CaFleureBon and Euro Perfumes/Eden Square for the generous draw. I am in the US.

  • Olya’s review of Memo Paris sends me to a sensual setting where my eyes are closed and enjoying the surrounding music. Argentina sounds like a happy scent. My favorite from Memo is Lalibela. Thank you for the giveaway.

  • sillage4ever says:

The high quality of Memo Paris perfumes comes through so very well. Against trend I happen to love their florals more than their leathers so Argentina is right up my Big White alley. Favorite thus far is Quartier Latin, creamy sandalwood deliciousness. I’m in the USA, thanks for the drawing.

  • I love that a scent can conjure these kinds of visions of faraway scenes. I long to travel again some day… And what a bottle! I haven’t tried any Memo fragrances. (SoCal)

  • Bryant Worley says:

Olya -put her foot into this review. Her description of how the notes work together has me in anticipation of this fragrance: “Memo Paris Argentina conveys the perfect rhythm and raw passion of the Tango as opulent rose is locked in a fervent embrace with resinous oud, surrounded by the flowers of magnolia and jasmine in full bloom. There is a pink pepper note in the opening, which lends a green astringency. It reminds me of the traditional Mate, which is one of the most popular drinks in the region. It is made from Yerba Mate, infusing the water with a slight bitter green flavor similar to the green tea. Although the fragrance’s initial impression is loud and vibrant, upon touching the skin it slowly mellows into a soft, slightly soapy floral laying on a bed of woods, as if completely spent by the passionate dance.”

I have yet tobtry any Memo Paris fragrances, but I’m eventually going to get samples of all their leathers (Irish, African, et al), Winter Palace, etc.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • constancesuze says:

Sounds fantastic. I’m a big fan of tango (and 100 Years of Solitude, but that’s another story) even though I don’t dance Argentine tango- I do dance the ballroom version of international- or used to. I keep thinking of Masque Milano’s Tango, which was beautiful but too cumin for me.

  • Olya’s perception of the yerba mate note is interesting! The last yerba mate fragrance I remember trying was Annick Goutal’s Duel, and that one was very yerba mate and tea-centric! Before I read this review, I skipped right past Memo Paris Argentina announcements, because all I noted on the description was ‘rose oud,’ and I’ve already met (and kept) so many of those. But a perfume that dances it’s way from soapy floral to a shadowy finish, and has a mate twist, sounds like too much to resist. I tried a few Memo Paris perfumes when I visited NYC a few years ago and each one that I smelled had a distinctive character… in particular, I still remember how decadent Marfa is, so I’d love to try more of their florals. I’m in the USA, thank you for the draw!

  • Jasmine is such a sensual note. I like Olya’s description of being ushered into an underground lounge, and all the rest of her delightful descriptions. Anything with jasmine has my interest. Thank you for the review and the draw.

  • I have tried several of the Memo perfumes and find all them well done. I own Irish Leather and enjoy its fresh green leather. I look forward to smelling a Memo with rose as a predominate note.

  • Olya, what a beautiful description! “When wearing Memo Paris Argentina, I imagine being ushered into an underground lounge where black velvet benches line the walls, whispers of conversations swirl in the candlelight, and cocktails are being poured into the crystal flutes glistening on the mahogany bar.”

I love anything with rose and jasmine, especially when oud is added to the blend. It sounds beautiful and romantic. I have never actually smelled anything from Memo Paris. This would be a perfect one for me to start with.

    I live in the US.

  • Have been to Buenos Aires and this scent seems to be matched very well. Looking forward to trying it.

  • I like the fact that it starts strong yet turns soapy in drydown, the notes of oud and rose always get my attention, awesome review. Never tried A Memo fragrance before so yet to find a favorite.

  • Hashim Madani says:

Fearing yet another Rose-Oud duo, I was skeptical of this fragrance. Olya’s assurance of the prominent presence of magnolia and jasmine, which altogether create a soapy floral is a relief. Favorite Memo Paris fragrances are Lalibela, Siwa & African Leather. VA, USA

  • The article draws you in with Argentina and the perfect rhythm of the tango. The notes have the dynamic duo of rose and Oud. For me it is the jasmine , magnolia , with pink pepper. Definitely like Memo line of African leather . Would be very happy to get to try Memo Argentina.

  • Memo is a lovely house and I am excited to learn of this release. The notes sound amazing while the reviewer’s description of the image on the bottle representing the passing of the perfume’s star rose between two hornero birds evokes a passionate adventure. My favorite from the house so far is Irish Leather. KY, USA.

  • I can never get enough of Memo’s incredible bottle designs. Argentine strikes me as a beautifully intimate and sensual fragrance, perfect for a date night with someone you already know and love. I am curious about the Mate tea note. So far I have only tried Sintra from the Memo collection, but it is really quite special. Thanks from the US.

  • I’m a fan of unisex fragrances and Argentina fits perfectly. The bottle art on the Memo brand perfumes are beautiful. I enjoyed reading about the history of the tango. Thanks for another great article and generous draw! Mich USA

  • glowquest_ says:

Lovely review that left me with beautiful images in my head of the crimson lounge, filled with lovers, lust, dancing, passion. I love the sound of the opening being loud but then it drying down into a gorgeous woody floral. The design on their bottles always appeals to me too. I’ve only gotten to try Sintra so far and really enjoyed it so would love to try more from Memo! Love Olyas IG and reading her articles on here as well! Such great photos! NY, USA

  • My favorite Memo perfume thus far is Kedu, which is quite the subtle scent and it consistently intrigues me upon wearing it. I have loved every Memo fragrance I’ve sampled thus far and this sounds stupendous, especially to this rose and oud lover. Your description of voyeurism for the dancers is quite evocative. In Maine, USA.

  • I enjoyed Olya’s description of Tango in Argentina. Thinking about everything in Crimson and getting ready to have a sensual dance with a dark haired stranger. Fun! I love Yerba Mate and other notes like Rose and Jasmine, in the fragrance. My favorite fragrance from Memo is French Leather. California

  • Dubaiscents says:

Another gorgeous bottle for sounds like such a gorgeous scent! I would have not guessed that something named after Argentina would contain rose and oud notes but thanks to Olya’s review I see that this is much more than just another Arabic style knock off. I especially like that Olya perceives a note of Yerba Mate, one of my favorite notes. I’d love to try this one. My favorite Memo is Russian Leather. US

  • I love all rose fragrances and with the combination of pink pepper in the opening I can imagine an aggressive tango but mellowing out and becoming more sensual. Indiana USA

  • NiceVULady says:

What attracts me is the use of magnolia and jasmine together. This sounds like truly a sensuous fragrance. Many thanks to Olya for her most luscious review and many thanks to Euro Perfumes/Eden Square for making this draw possible. I’m in the USA

  • One of my favorite perfume brands is Memo. Ilha do mel is a perfect jasmine fragrance for me. I also love Sintra, which is on my “to buy” list. Memo impresses me with every creation, and not only with the notes combination, but also with all the inventiveness and the presentation of the brand and fragrances. They make me fall in love with them every time. CA, USA

  • Nara Hodgson says:

Love rose, any rose, lol. I have never tried Memo Paris but always see everyone talking about it in fragrance groups! I am in USA.

  • Argentina I’m sure it would be a good fragrance, especially when it’s made by Alienor Massenet. She’s pretty famous nose with some masterpiece level creations. Own 7 fragrances she composed, 2 Memo Paris included.
Spicy woody rose , passionate fragrance i believe. Checks the boxes quite perfectly .
From Memo Paris i do own Granada , and i’m on my second African Leather bottle. Both Alienor Massenet creations.
    I do follow all of you on IG @cafleurebon , @olyabar , @offical_ europerfumes , @memo.paris , @osmeperfumery , the nose @alienormassenet . She follows me too

  • Margarita K says:

I love all these fragrances that evoke deep crimson color and are centered around rose accord that is anything but simple. Because passion and seduction are never simple and easy to understand, they are visceral.
I have a sample of Memo’s French Leather that I enjoy immensely, it gives me a preview of the quality of materials and compositions of the house.
Olya, your description makes me want to tango. I suppose it’s never too late to learn. Greetings from Indiana.

  • The Tango. I knew a professional tango dancer. She was amazing and intimidating. Maybe a scent like this would give me some of her confidence. I haven’t tried any MEMO perfumes. I am in the US.

  • vickalicious says:

Great review, Olya (and wonderful photo!)! I just started exploring Memo fragrances this past year, and I’ve been very impressed with the few I’ve tried thus far. This sounds like a wonderful rose-oud combo, and I’m intrigued by that mate note that Olya is picking up. I also like that it’s described as carnal, but not animalic. Of course the design of the bottle, as with all Memo fragrances, is gorgeous. My favorite Memo fragrance so far is Oriental Leather. I would love to try this one! Thank you for the informative post and giveaway! Located in the USA.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

I never tire of rose and oud. The mate note at the top sounds interesting. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • This house always does a beautiful bottle, the kind you’d want to leave out on your dressing table to enjoy! The fragrance sounds lush & sexy. Thank you to Euro Perfumes for their generosity and Olya for the review. I’m in the US.

  • “Perfumes that are deep and dark and sensuous always make me sit up and take notice. But Memo Paris Argentina has me humming “La Cumparsita”. It is sexy as all get-out, but not carnal….”
Nice , balance is needed in our lives…at least I need it. Argentina feels captivating.
African Leather is the best Memo Paris i personally own, there’s one more i really like , it’s called Kedu . Smells like eating sesame bar, and drinking tea.
Thanks to Europerfumes for the giveaway, and to Olya of course

I really like Memo Paris. Probably my favorites are memo eau de memo, moon fever and french leather.
    California, USA

  • Beautiful photo by Olya. The description sounds so romantic. I get the association of roses and tango. Don’t get the pink pepper and yerba mate association, but to be fair, haven’t tried the composition. Perhaps contains some herbs nos listed. Looking forward to this release. My favorite Memo is Italian Leather. USA

  • Imo, there is absolutely nothing better than a sexy perfume. Rose with yerba mate sounds fantastic. I am a big fan of Memo Paris. I own (and love) French Leather and Winter Palace. I also love both Italian and Irish Leather.
    I live in the US.

  • petergigov says:

Seductive, smoky and spicy rose, Olya Bar look on the picture well represents the character of “Argentina” fragrance.
African Leather, cozy date time scent I’m well aware of, I had to buy it because of its high compliment factor and versatile characteristics.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

Thank you for the fantastic review Olya.

I love how you included the pervieved note of mate in your review. It really helps to break and highlight all the other sensual notes, in particular that narcotic heady jasmine.

I do love Winter Palace from this house.

    Cheers from WI, USA

  • I’ve heard of this fragrance house and I’ve been hoping to try all of their releases, but I haven’t tried anything from them yet. I’m interested in trying this fragrance: it seems like it might have an enjoyable rose aspect to it and in combination w/ oud, more floralness, and some greenness. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • From the review, Memo Paris Argentina sounds like the embodiment of seduction. I love the rose, oud and jasmine combo. I’m in USA

  • I like MEMO, and my favourite so far is Russian Leather. I am intrigued about how they interpret Tango with the listed notes and how it reminds you of mate. (RI, USA)

  • Michael Prince says:

What appeals to me about Memo Paris Argentina based on Olyas review is the story behind this dominant and voluptuous rose fragrance and how she ties it to the tango dance popular in hispanic countries and the hornero birds that are intertwined on the bottle are the national birds for Argentina and Uruguay. Olya also describes this frgarance in vivid detail which I can envision perfectly. My favorite Memo Paris Fragrance is African Leather. I am from the USA.

  • I have always been a fan of Memo Paris – I would happily own a bottle of every fragrance, and am thrilled to see that they are adding to their fabulous collection. Olya couldn’t have described a better fragrance for me – I’m used to Memo working expertly with leather and rose, and am intrigued to see what they do with this spicier oud fragrance. Can’t wait to try it, and am hopeful that it works well in the summers where I live – New York can get pretty warm, but I’m imagining that any fragrance with the appellation “Argentina” will be spectacular, even during hot days.

  • Uncle1979 says:

I had the pleasure of smelling a few Memo Paris fragrances when I was at Osswald boutique , looking for something else.
Argentina I have not smelled there for obvious reasons since it’s brand new , but at the end , I end up buying the fragrance I originally intended to, and also Memo Tiger’s Nest . I had to , it’s impressive one , and it works wonders . Over 10 hours of longevity and 3-4 hours of strong projection.
After reading Olya take on Argentina , I was instantly reminded of my first date with my girlfriend, good times 🙂
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

Memo Paris Argentina sounds like THE fragrance to wear once nightlife comes back. I have visited Buenos Aires and it’s such a sensual city. The rose and pink pepper sound sensual, just like tango nightclubs. I loved Olya’s image of the underground lounge.
I like African Leather from MEMO.
    I live in the USA.

  • The sensuality of the central rose-oud combination with the jasmine and magnolia accompanying it sounds amazing! Rose, oud, and jasmine can definitely be very intensely narcotic and sexy – which is what I love about those ingredients. Mate is another note that I really enjoy and feel like is underutilised in fragrances.

I live in the US and would love to be able to experience this fiery tango. My favourite Memo fragrance is Siwa!

  • IvanVelikov says:

Not overly complex , but well executed florals, spices and wood. I’m really drown to similar combinations.
Other than a sample of Tamarindo i’m not familiar with Memo Paris , but after Olya’s vivid review I’ll look for samples. I also need to finally try the one , Sebastian reviewed while back called Winter Palace.
    Beautiful giveaway, thanks a lot.

For tonight I’ll sleep on a bed of nails
Oh I want to be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down on a bed of roses

I don’t know about Tango, but Argentina somehow reminded of one of my favorite songs, Bed of Roses Bon Jovi
Don’t have Memo bottle yet, but four samples
