Esxence 2019:  Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia Review + Orange Sanguinella Draw

Perris Montecarlo Arancia di Siciilia review

Introduced at Esxence 2019, Perris Monte Carlo launched three new perfumes.  While Jasmin de Pays and Rose de Mai by Jean Claude Ellena garnered much of the accolades,  Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia by Creative Director and perfumer Gian Luca Perris was one of our  personal favorites.

Last year at Esxence 2018, three sparkling fresh citruses debuted Perris Monte Carlo Bergamotto di Calabria (one of the  best of shows for the team), Cedro di Diamante and  Mandarina di Sicilia. Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia is a departure from the previous trio which were in the bright and fresh category.  Central to this new fragrance is  Blood orange;  the most iconic citrus from Sicily, It is known as the Orange Sanguinella; bright red and is grown on the slopes of Mount Aetna.  Two complex methods are used to extract the oils- the first from the rind only and then later the entire fruit. In this succulent fragrance, the burst of the blood orange is at the top, but as it dries down it veers into gourmand territory with notes of coffee, vanilla, almond, cinnamon and amber. While it might seem the dessert aspect might be better for cooler weather, I find the warmth of the amber and the  contrast of coffee against the citrus suits my skin regardless of the season. I imagine myself in Sicily on a hot summer day indulging in a sweet treat.-Michelyn Camen, Editor-in-Chief

  • Sebastian’s reviews are wonderful for the detail and I love that he offers his feelings, as well as the details of the Arancia de Sicilia. I’d love to try – we are Sicilian on my mother’s side. I live in the U.S.

  • This fragrance sounds delicious. I do like the idea of a citrus fragrance that can be appropriate in brisket weather. I liked in the intro that it was explained how the oils are extracted both from the rind and the entire fruit it sounds like it would make for a jucier scent than if only from the rind. I enjoyed Sebastians description in his video of how the fragrance opens with just the blood orange but the vanilla almond and cinnamon notes come in quickly. From CT USA. Thanks.

Sebastian tells it like it is his reviews are just amazing. Blood orange gourmand sounds totally amazing and delicious . Ireland.

  • Great video review and intro by Michelyn I am a fan of Perris Monte Carlo and Cafleurebon. I bough rose taif and Bergamotto. I enjoyed the introduction because I like learning about the extraction process and never heard of Orange Sanguiella. Fascinating. I am eager to win this they really all smell well made. I liked Sebastian down to earth delivery and easy going style. USA

  • Doni Light says:

Glad to hear about the unique twist on blood orange. Sebastian’s right, it can get a bit boring sometimes, but combine it with some tasty gourmand elements, and it quickly becomes a tantalizing affair. Michelyn’s description of enjoying a sweet treat in Sicily is a great comparison. Can’t say that I prefer lemons over oranges like Seb, but I absolutely love that it has coffee. Who says you can’t enjoy a good deep and rich gourmand in the summer eh? Canada.

  • Orange is one of my favorite citrus notes, so hearing his take on how he feels it can be flat was interesting. I also know Sebastian is a gourmand lover, so hearing him describe how this fragrance is dessert-like appeals to me. I appreciate how Michelyn explained how two complex methods are used to extract the oils, as I hadn’t thought of the rind being utilized. Los Angeles, CA

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these fragrances. Blood orange is one of my favorite notes. And mixed with almond, with a sip of coffee? Sebastian made it sound delicious! USA

  • Thank you! Sounds delicious! I love coffee notes in my fragrances. Sebastian always gives the best reviews! I like that he expands upon the gourmand facets in this review. Michelyn has done a great job introducing the video and lines up with Sebastian’s thoughts nicely. I am in Canada!

This fragrance sounds incredibly unreal for me. Blood orange, almond, coffee, so amazing notes in one fragrance and I am crazy for such unusual fragrances. Sebastian described it very well, as always. I very hope that I can be as lucky to win this fabulous fragrance. Thank you very much for the chance. I live in the USA.

  • Kyle Kopacz says:

I really want to try a gourmand orange as opposed to a fresh/citrus orange. Normally I don’t enjoy those but this one sounds cool because I also love amber. USA.

  • Kim Palmer says:

I love Sebastian’s videos. He is my favorite YouTube reviewer, always very informative. I would love to try this fragrance as I love Gourmande fragrances and this sounds delicious. I like Orange Sanguine but it’s always a bit lacking to me. This sounds like something I would love!

  • The Perfume House I adore most has created a scent centered around my all time favorite citrus – Blood Orange? Sounds like my years long search for the perfect Blood Orange is finally over given the wonderful way Sebastian illuminates how Arancia’s notes blend and progress! I already own Bergamotto di Calabria, Tubereuse Absolue and Jasmin de Pays getting endless compliments on every single one. But I became a huge fan because every product made under Gian Luca Perris’ passionate leadership is never anything less than exceptional!

  • This brand is new to me! The notes sound wonderful. I love blood orange and amber. Sebastian always introduces excellent new fragrances. Thank you from KY, USA.

  • First off, the fact that this isn’t available in the US makes me enjoy its temporary exclusivity. And as gourmands are my favorite fragrance category, I love the incorporation of blood oranges into this scent profile. I’m dying to smell what dimension of sweetness it adds to the concoction. (Commenting from USA)

  • Arancia di Sicilia sounds nice. I like the scent of blood orange. Haven’t hot the chance to try a Perris Monte Carlo fragrance. Thanks, US

  • Kamal Wiggins says:

Sebastian reviews are always appreciated and in deep. He paints a picture of the fragrance and did so with Arancia Di Sicila. Michelyn’s description had me reaching for something sweet, she was that vivid with her words. They did a wonderful job. I live in NYC.

  • I liked how he described it as gourmand and how she explained the two different extraction processes. Very interesting. I love Perris as a house. I would love to see how they do a citrus. I’m in the USA.

  • I love citruses fragrances and Perris Monte Carlo house makes a fantastic work on citruses. Great review from Sebastian as always. Thanks for the chance on this amazing giveaway. I am in the EU.

  • Happy INDEPENDENCE Day!!!!
This sounds like a high class version of Mont Blanc Exceptionnel.
This would make a wonderful addition to my very modest collection.

  • Sebastian always does such an incredible job reviewing a fragrance and this was not exception. I appreciate that he gave some background on the house , also included other offerings they had all the while giving a complete overview of the notes and giving us such a vivid description of what they convay to him. It sounds like a gorgeous scent. I’m from Ireland, wish everyone the best of luck and sincerely appreciate the opportunity.

  • fazalcheema says:

Sebastian says Arancia di Sicilia is quite a juicy composition with prominent blood orange note. It also has gourmand elements, not common for a fragrance with primarily citrusy focus. I am in US.

  • I love how sebastion is always reviewing new unique fragrances. He explained it as if i can already smell it!

  • I love how sebastion is always reviewing new unique fragrances. He explained it as if i can already smell it! Im in the US

  • This fragrance definitely looks interesting. I really like Sebastian’s videos in general because he often reviews fragrances that aren’t normal generic designers or already well known niche houses. He also lives in the Bay Area which is where I’m also from so his descriptions for seasonality are well appreciated because I can relate. As mentioned, I live in the bay in California and definitely interested interested in this fragrance as I am a huge fan of gourmand scents with character.

  • Truly love blood orange, found the review very intriguing and am anxious to try this one! The Netherlands, EU

  • Thank you Michelyn for the intro and Sebastian for the review. I always like Sebastian’s video reviews and in my mind saw him munching on a red orange while smelling awesome 🙂 Arancia di Sicilia sounds like a wonderful fragrance. I’m in TX USA

  • A gourmand citrus which works in any kind of weather sounds great. Pair it with amber? Win. I am sure this will be a success.i love how detailed and yet to the point Sebastian’s reviews always are. Would love to win this from the EU.

  • Harbinger says:

I was watching Sebastian’s review at 4am in bed! Loved how he described this fragrance and it’s gourmand aspect. I also enjoyed learning from Michelyn how the oils are extracted in a complex manner and her description makes me view this as an all year scent….coffee!! Yes!
    USA

  • Excellent sounding compliment of notes to go along with the orange. Sounds like it could work in cool weather also. US

  • twiggy3634 says:

We know Sebastian loves his gourmands, which caught me by surprise with this fragrance as the name suggests it being a summer freshie. Soon as he said it’s rich without being heavy, I knew it was something I needed to try. And I like how Michelyn breaks down the unique oil extraction method used. I’m in IN, USA.

  • bigscoundrel says:

I am a huge fan of coffee fragrances, but I’ve never tried one that has Italian blood oranges. I hope I win this one. I’m in the USA.

  • Mem Por Od says:

I think just Yes Sebastian, yes orange, yes weather, yes tasty, and any number of other positives with this one. I live in the EU

  • recursivemask says:

The intro is such a great description of the scent, and I always love Sebastions reviews! He does such a great job highlighting the fragrance. I’m in the US.

  • A deep, rich, citrus goumandy? Yes, pleeeeeease? I still have not found a perfect citrus to please my nose, high hopes for this particular one! (USA subscriber) 🙂

  • I like this idea. Orangy amber dry down with coffee. Reminds me of Fall. I found Michelyn’s info on how the blood orange essence is extracted interesting. I think Arancia di Sicilia sounds unique and special. Thanks for the detailed description Sebastian. You always give us a well thought out review. In the USA.

  • majamocnik says:

I loved Sebastians review because it was short and to the point bur SO well explained. He always does great and spot on fragrance notes descriptions!
In the intro I loved the explanation of how the oils are extracted.
    Love from Slovenia!

  • strangedim says:

Michelyn’s introduction is evocative ( indulging in a sweet treat on a hot summer day) and informative (the methods to extract the oils). Sebastian’s review is, as always, concise and detailed. I’d love to try a cosy orange. Hugs from Romania, EU.

  • I really enjoy citrus fragrances and this one sounds like it doesn’t disappoint being a gourmand citrus. I really enjoy how Sebastian describes the fragrances with such depth and knowledge. USA

  • redwheelbarrow says:

Interesting to learn about the double extraction. I love Sebastian’s review. A cozy citrus sounds lovely and the gourmand notes of almond, vanilla, and cinnamon sound like beautiful companions to the blood orange. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • as always, love Sebastian’s reviews, his passion and knowledge! would love to try this juicy citrus, with the almond! Thank you for the draw, and the review! in the US

  • Emma James says:

Well now, that sounds promising. I love, love all of those notes so I’d really like to try it. From the UK *waves*.

  • Amirpasha says:

I really loved Sebastian’s review because it was, as usual , sweet, to the point but also descriptive. This fragrance sounds wonderful, and the mix of freshness with gourmand is tantalizing. Every Perris Monte Carlo fragrance I’ve tried thus far has been extremely high quality and well blended, so I’d love to win this and have the chance to smell it. Ca USA

  • Usually not a fan of citrus-centric freshies, since it often comes across as generic and synthetic on my nose. But this sounds like pure heaven! Fascinating use of vanilla, amber, almond, and musk to balance the zinginess of citruses. I am so excited to try this one out!

  • Usually not a fan of citrus-centric freshies, since it often comes across as generic and synthetic on my nose. Blood orange scents are among my favorite citrus notes, and haven’t been to Sicily myself, but Michelyn’s description of Sicily on a hot summer day indulging in a sweet treat sounds like pure heaven! Really excited to try how fresh citrus + gourmand combine together. CA, USA

  • Overly hesperidic and freshie type fragrances are not really my thing, but I do love the smell of oranges. After watching Sebastian’s review, it’s certain that this fragrance would be something I would love, with the citrus being rendered with a more cozy, gourmand emphasis in the dry down. This would certainly evoke imagery of sitting in an outdoor cafe somewhere in Sicily, eating some pastries, sipping an espresso, and smelling orange trees all around you. Thanks so much for the review Sebastian and thanks to Ca Fleure Bon for such a generous giveaway! I’m in Oregon, US.

  • I love sevaatuans review, since he shares his feelings about the fragrance, the fragrances notes and the nuances of the notes. He always does a great job and I enjoy his work very much. Michellyn’s introduction was exiting and I can see why this line or collection did very well. I live in the USA and would be very exited to gave this first in this country !!!!!! I am registered and followed the rules !

  • MissJanners says:

In Sebastian’s review, he described it as cozy, which is unexpected for a citrus fragrance, so I’m really excited to try it. In Michelyn’s intro I enjoyed reading about the extraction process (wish there was more info about that) and I like that it seems suitable for year-round use.
    Thanks for the giveaway!
    I’m in Canada.

  • This fragrance sounds very interesting. Sebastian does a great job reviewing, as always. I like how he states this may be more suitable for fall or spring. I love how he stated the burst’s of clean musk. I love a cleaner musk, that ties in with a gourmond. Thank you for the draw! US.

  • Outstanding review by Sebastian. I mean the idea of a blood orange with almonds fragrance that is also a gourmand is just amazing. Sebastian always break down these fragrances were I can almost smell it. I want to smell this fragrance so much. I live in CA, USA. Thanks for the draw!

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s review of Arancia de Sicilia, I agree with him that orange notes can be comforting, but I disagree with him that they are flat compared to other citrus notes. I love oranges they are like a burst of energy to me, they wake me up. But this scent is definitely sounds like its more of a fall scent, with the vanilla and cinnamon, reminds, hot fall beverage. Spiced Orange Tea! I live in the USA!

  • Sounds fantastic – citrus and dessert! And i liked about Sebastians video that the beautifully described the interaction between al the notes in this fragrance.

    Living in Germany, EU

  • I’m a fan of citrus notes as well as coffee and reading the note breakdown of this fragrance really intrigued me as it includes both notes, in addition to many of my other favorites. The idea of a citrus-gourmand sounds amazing and I would love the opportunity to smell this fragrance. Michelyn’s introduction is very informative and I enjoyed learning about the extraction process. I appreciate Sebastian’s reviews as he’s always straight to the point and does a great job describing fragrances to his viewers so we can get a good idea of what the scent is like prior to purchasing. His review of Arancia de Sicilia only made me want to get my hands on it even more. – I live in Portland, OR, USA.

  • Thabo Luza says:

I liked the description of the fragrance and how his description was so precise you could almost smell the fragrance through the screen as he is so detailed and always manages to create a sensory connection with the fragrance even though you have not smelt it yet.

    United Kingdom.

  • This fragrance sounds delicious I would love to try it. Sebastian is a strong reviewer and I like him a lot.
    Thank you from EU

  • carlos_lager says:

I love Sebastians reviews and watch almost all of them. This sounds awesome. Definitely have to try this one. Thank you for the chance of winning a bottle. Greetings from Austria (EU)

  • gregorysop says:

I like how Sebastian describes the fragrance as a heavier summer fragrance where most companies are trying to put out light citrus scents for the summer so it fits into a niche of a niche. Thanks for the draw. From USA
    GS

  • ChanteusedesIles says:

This sounds delicious! One of my favourite perfumes is Atelier Colognes Orange Sanguine (I just finished one!) as I use it in the winter for a cheerful pick me up 🙂 This sounds like an interesting twist on blood orange with the coffee & amber notes that I think I will love in winter and based on Michelyn’s intro I could like in the summer too! I live in Canada.

  • Citrusy gourmand sounds really promising, blood orange + cafe + almonds and vanilla, niche version of ultra zest? But there is no patchouli so it should be lighter. Great Sebastian’s review as always. I’d love to try it. I live in Poland.

  • I love Sebastian he’s always on point and well educated on the notes and houses. I know he prefers lemon I like blood orange and I like that it’s in a gourmand mix. I appreciate the two extraction methods Michelyn has described and that it can be worn anytime. Perris Monte Carlo is an excellent house Thanks for the tester bottle of Arancia di Sicilia.USA

  • patrick_348 says:

I like both Sebastian’s and Michelyn’s comments. When I have eaten them, blood oranges have a very specific flavor and I would like to see if that is captured in the fragrance. I like that this doesn’t sound at all synthetic, which to me spells death in a citrust fragrance. I am in the US, in North Carolina.

  • When Sebastian describes a fragrance as deep, rich and gourmand, you can take that to the bank. Depth is what turns me on to a fragrance, not the number of notes or transitions. Michelyn’s analogy of enjoying a sweet treat, perhaps an iced coffee and an orange tart on a warm afternoon in Sicily, sealed my interest. Who would say no to that? Loving life in Monterey, USA.

  • Dubaiscents says:

A citrus mixed with coffee and almond? Sounds amazing and Sebastian makes it seem even more so! I agree that it does sound like a rare gourmand for the summer months! I would love to own a bottle of this! I live in the US.

  • Ambrosium says:

Sebastians review of this fragrance has been very intimidating, I‘d love to add this to my collection if its even half as delicious as I think it is.
    Love from Germany!

  • I’ve always found Sebastian’s reviews interesting and this is no except. He did a good job reviewing the notes and his thoughts on this fragrance. Michelyn’s description of Sicily experience is great too.
    I live in USA.

  • JennyLynn231 says:

I would love to try! I have used hermes eau de merveilles during summer weather, so I believe that this would also be fitting. I wonder if it would have a bitter hint with using the rind oils? Loved the description. Never have I tried a blood orange note! Sebastian reviews are the best as always. Michelyn is doing fabulous work. Greetings from Minnesota, Ope!

  • ricebunny says:

It’s interesting that the blood orange note is used by Michelyn since I don’t have any perfume with that in my very small collection, and the fact that Sebastian mentioned this to be more a fall scent for something that is citrusy. I am use to citrus scents to be more for the summer and am interested to smell how this scent is more suited for the fall. I do reside in the USA.

  • Bravo, Sebastian! Always perfect job!
Bloody orange, italian freshness and joyful perfume. I would like to test tis perfume and all PMC perfumes.

Blood orange , coffee and almond ? Sounds great . Hope i’ll be able to win it first 🙂
I like Michelin description of orange extraction process .
Bois d’Oud is 10/10 fragrance-love the plum in this one.I do have nice 30ml decant -fantastic scent – gets me nice amount of compliments. Also have 30 ml decant of Essence de Patchouli too. Both from Perris Monte Carlo of course.

  • Michael Prince says:

Sebastian, great review of Perris Monte Carlo Arancia di Sicilia. A unique take on citrus with the blood orange and gourmand notes of almond, vanilla, cinnamon, and coffee. It sounds truly amazing. One of these years I hope I can attend the Esxence and really experience all the great fragrances out there. I am from the USA.

  • well, i have been spending part of yesterday researching orange-centered perfumes and only just now ran into this review. ah, blood-orange and spices: ambery, personal, cozy, musky, deep and rich — what’s not to hanker after? (US)

  • mariannep says:

I love in both reviews the thoroughness and for the fragrance itself I am intrigued of the contrast beween cold and warm. I live in Seden.

  • WaltherP99 says:

Thank you Perris Monte Carlo for this generous draw ,Michelin for the introduction and Sebastian for your nice review.
Blood Orange – almond gourmand ? I love when some houses throw some curveballs at us. Because of the notes and the review i do agree with Michelin statement about this new beauty being more suitable for the colder weather.
I was not able to go to Esxence 2019, so i’m not familiar with Arancia Di Sicilia , but i’ve sampled most from the brand , and imo Bois d‘Oud is by far the best one i know, and a must have for me for the late autumn-winter season.
I do follow all of you on IG.

  • Nice perfumer, lovely notes , enjoyable review = must sample for me. I’m especially excited about the combination of coffee, blood oranges, amber, cinnamon and vanilla. And not one , but two complex methods of oils extraction was something new. Thank you Michelin.
I could be wrong but I think there was an article on Fragrantica saying that the whole Italian Collection was made with both Gian Luca Perris and Luca Maffei .
Proud owner of Absolue d’Osmanthe Extrait. I can’t describe how much I love this fragrance. To be honest it was a gift-it’s really expensive. I know some other offerings by Perris Monte Carlo – Bois d’Oud , Cacao Azteque and Oud Imperial.
Thanks to all involved in this draw.

  • wildevoodoo says:

I was so excited when I heard about this fragrance coming out, since I love everything I’ve ever tried from Perris Monte Carlo, but I didn’t even realize the ‘arancia’ in ‘Arancia di Sicilia’ was a blood orange, a ‘sanguinello’, until I saw Sebastian’s review! This is a welcome surprise, as I love all things blood orange. The gourmand-ish nature of the fragrance sounds unique and delicious- Sebastian describing the almond, vanilla, and cinnamon rushing in to meet the blood orange does indeed call to mind a mouthwatering dessert! I agree that it sounds like it could be a bit much on a hot summer’s day, but that certainly wouldn’t stop me from trying it on a cooler summer evening the minute I got the chance 🙂 I am so excited about this drawing and would love to win this amazing perfume! I am in the US 🙂

  • NiceVULady says:

As always Sebastian is precise and to the point. this sounds like a marvelous scent for the warmer weather, although I can see wearing it when it is cold as well. Thanks for a most interesting review and generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • Just watched sebastian’s review and im really intrigued. I always loves bright citrus fragrances and they are always my jam. I wear them even in winter just to feel rejuvenated and remind myself back in summer. This fragrnace really hits all the notes i look for in fragrance and would love to have an opp to try it. I live in the u.s.

  • I already know Arancia de Sicilia and I love it! Sebastian is right – it is not typical orange citrus fragrance, but it is much more thanks to almond, amber and cinnamon.
    I live in Poland.

  • doveskylark says:

How intriguing! A cozy citrus! Sebastian certainly piqued my interest. This review also reminded me of the first time I ever drank blood orange juice. It was in a cafe in Siena. It is still the most delicious beverage I have ever drunk….and I remember the almond-filled pastries there….I very much want to try this one.
    I live in the USA.

  • Arancia Di Sicillia sounds like it’s bespoke perfume made for my girlfriend. Not only she loves coffee , amber , citruses and almond fragrances , but she does have one with both called Pegasus .
I’m 100% sure she’ll love Arancia Di Sicillia just as much , if not more.
I never knew there are fragrances did this way . I mean the extraction of oils from both the rind , and the fruit. Thanks Michelyn – good to know.
If I happen to be the winner I’ll give my girlfriend the bottle.
Personally I do not own Perris Monte Carlo fragrances , but I know Cacao Azteque well. My future brother in law bathes in it haha. Smell like hot Mexican chocolate – it’s really good.
We are all Sebastian subscribers , no need to ask in my opinion.

I don’t know how Sebastian is doing this, but after watching his reviews on YouTube I feel like I’m urged to smell the fragrance his reviewing. If I have to be precise 12 fragrances from my collection I bought because of his reviews.
Blood Oranges from the very start , to coffee gourmand dry down. Unusual combination, but I have a feeling I’ll enjoy Arancia Di Sicilia quite a bit.
I think Michelyn have a point-this fragrance will work wonders in cooler weather.
    Thank you for the draw

Sebastian review instantly reminded me of Almond Crumble Coffee Cake, Double Coffee Panna Cotta with orange peels and a few more Coffee flavored desserts with both almonds and orange 🙂 In some parts of Europe espresso flavored desserts are really popular, but not so much in the States unfortunately.
Can’t help it – Pastry Chef in me is going forward.
    Mouthwatering review I really enjoyed.
The way Perris Monte Carlo is extracting the oils It’s just old fashion way . It’s been done in counalierie ( or if you prefer culinary, depends where you live) for centuries.
It’s more expensive, and time consuming, and I was surprised when I heard about what they are doing. Props to Perris Monte Carlo for doing it.
It was important topic when I was studying, being a novice , and then working under Pierre Herme in France , considered to be top 5 Pastry Chef and chocolatier in the world.
    Appreciate the giveaway campaign

  • Thanks for this great review, Sebastian! An interesting description- a mix of blood orange, almonds, vanilla, amber… I always associate gourmand with the cooler season and I like what Michelle said- ‘While it might seem the dessert aspect might be better for cooler weather, I find the warmth of the amber and the  contrast of coffee against the citrus suits my skin regardless of the season’. I don’t have any perfume like this and I’m excited to try it. Thanks for this opportunity! – CA, USA

Excellent review by Sebastian! I love that he said that it was a citrusy gourmand and for me citrus scents can be hit or miss. I also love that it can also be worn in the colder months. • I have tried and sample many from this line my absolute favorite was and still is Taif Rose and my wife loves Osmanthus on me. I recently ordered samples of the citrus with blood orange can’t wait to receive it in the mail.

Thanks for all the great work you do.
