Top Ten Perfumes of 2018: Gail Gross and Lauryn Beer, Senior Editors of ÇaFleurebon + Part 4 Draw

Gail Gross and Lauryn Beer, Senior Editors

Now that you have read Ermano’s and Michelyn’s respective Top Ten Perfumes of 2018, as well as  Ida's and Robert’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018, we  turn it over the wrap-up over to Senior Editors Gail Gross and Lauryn Beer who have smelled about +600 2018 fragrances between them.

Gail’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018

Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes (Jean-Phillipe Clermont/Marie Salamagne) wears like the dusk and twilight hours, an animalic sensuality glimmering with the mysterious sparkle of a will-o-the-wisp. The sweet dark, fuzzy warmth of hyraceum, incense and patchouli dissolve into sunlit mandarin, clary sage and spices.

Hendley Perfumes Blond (Hans Hendley) opens for me as a brunette – dark, soft and smooth as velveteen.  The tawny first impression transforms in moments to a ripe, golden blonde, decked in a garland of narcotic flowers and musky fruits, tied with soft cords of sueded leather, sandalwood and musk.

Jo Malone Tropical Cherimoya Cologne is like the cherimoya fruit itself, is an exquisite combination of bright fruits and light, velvety vanilla cream. Fresh, slightly tart green pears are followed by the scent of cherimoya, an aroma that is as much a unique texture as it is an olfactory delight – buttery, lactonic, creamy, full of humid, tropical perfumes.

In M. Micallef Secrets of Love Spiritual (Martine Micallef, Jean-Claude Astier and Geoffrey Nejman) fragrant wraiths of pepper and jasmine vibrate and melt into a deep, earthy olfactory prayer. The spirits of air, earth and sea dance for hours on my skin, dissolving into a dream of cedar wood and an unearthly sigh of vanilla and ambergris.

Neil Morris Fragrances Rose Afire (Neil Morris) redefines my notion of the ideal rose, a cool fire on my skin – a haze of smoky, tarred cade simmering into a heart of fresh dewy roses, caramel and cinnamon. A hint of pumpkin plumps the flower as the blossom emerges from the fire – a full-blown, rosy phoenix rising from ashes.

Olympic Orchids Kīlauea (Ellen Covey) initially wafts vapors of ocean water steaming from hot rocks and crackling earth, aromas of oozing sap and singed plant life. As the scent of the volcano clears, I breathe the gentle, sweet air of the Big Island of Hawaii, an atmosphere laced with delicate, ethereal aromas of plumeria and the green, honeyed notes of pikake.

Parfums Dusita Erawan  (Pissara Umavijani and Michelyn's Best Artisan House of 2018), the winner of the 2018 Russian Fifi Award for Breakthrough Perfume of the Year, is a fragrance that soothes and comforts my body, mind and spirit. I am re-energized by the opening of petitgrain and clary sage, comforted with the sweet breath of liatris and lily of the valley and warmed with an ethereal vanilla and grounding vetiver.  The Thai god Airewan, the namesake of Parfums Dusita Erawan, was responsible for bringing healing waters to the earth. As I wear Erawan I imagine the sounds of these healing, falling water, the clarity of still, blue pools and the scents and sights overhanging tropical forests.

For Parfums de Nicolai Nerol Intense, Patricia de Nicolaï, traveled to Nabuel in Tunisia, to the land of citrus groves, exploring the diverse facets of neroli and the bitter orange tree. With Néroli Intense Patricia de Nicolaï brings to life every part of the bitter orange – leaves, bark, twigs, blossoms and fruit, building her very own, amplified bitter orange tree.

Sarah Horowitz Parfums Le Banq de Parfums Pride and Carnation is perfumer Sarah Horowitz Thran's amazing homage to the legendary JAR Golconda. Pride and Carnation, available through February 2019 from the SHP Banq de Parfum, is one of the most beautiful carnation fragrances I have experienced in years. Pride and Carnation is not a copy of Golconda, but rather Sarah's own interpretation of a wet, dewy carnation, fresh from the morning garden or the florist's cooler.

Shay & Blue Black Tulip (Julie Massé) opens like drops of dew cradled in the hearts of white and green snowdrops. Juicy effects of ripe plum and the sweet, delicate freshness of cyclamen suffuse early season tulips. Coconut and white chocolate lend a warm, semi-gourmand taste to the scent of the flowers.

Honorable Mention: Just as I thought I had finished my Top Perfumes of 2018 review, another stunning fragrance arrives at my door – Chatillon Lux Parfums Santal Auster Parfum Extrait by Shawn Maher. I have been looking for a fresh take on Mysore Sandalwood for some time now. Using new, cultivated and renewable sandalwood, as well as opoponax, styrax, castoreum and patchouli, Shawn has created a brilliant and original perfume, an understated and elegant variation on the timeless, classic sandalwood.  –Gail Gross, Sr Editor

Lauryn’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018

2018 saw a huge number of releases; so many that it made this year’s task especially difficult. In alphabetical order:

Anatole Lebreton Cornaline (Anatole Lebreton): Hot geranium with elegant touches of iris and peach juice, Cornaline is another jewel in Anatole Lebreton’s quirky, gorgeous line. This is one of Michelyn and Ermano’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2018

Antonio Alessandrio Fara (Antonio Alessandria): The taste of a particular herbal Italian lemon ice on a hot day in fragrance form. Evocative, refreshing and highly original. Fara is one of Michelyn’s and Ermano’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018

Blocki Sanrovia (Kevin Verspoor): Sanrovia, a retooling of a 1911 fragrance, has notes of honeyed citrus, rose and lavender. It is one of the most breathtaking, poignant florals I’ve ever smelled.

DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental (Dawn Spencer Hurwitz): This is one of the most beautiful lily fragrances I’ve ever come across: spicy, opulent and dressy; this is vintage velvet for the skin.

Le Galion L’Ame Perdue (Rodrigo Flores-Roux Michelyn's Perfumer of the Year):  L’Ame Perdue, a luxurious floriental, shows off Rodrigo Flores-Roux’s brilliance with vintage-modern scents.

Map of the Heart Pink Heart (Jaques Huclier): One of my favourite discoveries at Esxence this year, and definitely one of my Top Ten Perfumes of 2018, Australian house Map of the Heart has a unique and beautifully crafted line. Pink Heart, is a lovely, offbeat narcissus with hits of tobacco.

Tonatto Profumi Palosanto (Diletta Tonatto): A sophisticated milky, anisic wood perfume that is like the touch of an old friend. Palosanto is perfect for miserable weather or whenever you need to feel a little bit loved.

Olfactive Studio Leather Shot (Bertrand Duchaufour): With its arresting opening and perfect balance of high-class leather and rooty iris, Leather Shot demonstrates again that Olfactive Studio is turning out some of its best work now.

Olibere Leather Attraction (Luca Maffei): An elegant leather with a deliciously dirty undertone, this is half biker-babe and half leather-gloved garconne.

St. Clair Casablanca (Diane St. Clair, Rising Star of 2018): A vintage-modern animalic floral that balances raunchy with classy.

Honorable mention to: Olivier Durbano Pyrit Ana Tra (one of Michelyn and Ermano’s Top 10 Perfumes of 2018), Papillon Rouge Sorcier, Olfactive Studios Flashback in New York.

  • Gail is a huge fan of Micallef so I did expect one Micallef to make it into the list 🙂 Lauryn’s mention of St. Claire reminds me it is getting lot of buzz. Lauryn’s list is quite unusual, very different from everyone else. My choices will be:

    Dusita Erawan
    Antonio Alessandria Fara
Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes

    I am in US

  • Thanks for another great article/list. Some more really nice fragrances ,Gails pick Parfums Dusita Erawan Is wonderful from the small sample I got to try, which honestly is no surprise I love everything ive tried from Pissara really beautiful stuff. And so many other picks From list i’m still yet to try so a lot of goodies to explore.

So if I am lucky enough to win any from this generous giveaway my list is…
    -Parfums Dusita Erawan
-Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    -Antonio Alessandria Fara
    -Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    -Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    -Le Galion L’Ame Perdue

    Canada here
Thanks for article and giveaway much appreciated !

  • Oh, I didn’t realize Erawan was a 2018 release! I got a smaple of that one and I agree with Gail’s descriptor of it as “healing.” I am testing it now and I’d love to be able to spritz it on instead of delicately dabbing. Love these lists, seeing how people’s tastes differ and how some favorites have popped up on lots of year-end reviews. I’m in the US; thanks for hosting this draw! My top choices to win this day:

    – Parfums Dusita – Erawan
    – Le Galion – L’Ame Perdue
    – Atelier Des Ors – Crépuscule des Âmes
    – Neil Morris – Rose Afire
    – Antonio Alessandria – Fara

    Happy holidays, everybody!

  • middleagedandmixed says:

I was happy to see that Gail picked Blonde by Hendley Perfumes, and I loved her description why. Bourbon was one of my favorite discoveries this year, and I’m excited to see what Hans Hendley does next. I liked seeing DSH pop up again in Lauryn’s list. Dawn is killing it with these best of the year lists. I’m also intrigued by her description of Olfactive Studio’s Leather Shot. Should I get picked, I would be happy with any of the following:
    Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    DSH Lis Oriental
    Parfums Dusita Erawan
Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes

    I live in Washington state.

  • I have no experience with many of the fragrances chosen, but those that I do know are all excellent. Residing in Canada.

    1. Dusita Erawan
    2. Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    3. Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    4. Antonio Alessandria Far
    5. Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
    6. DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental
    7. Neil Morris Rose Afire

  • I have not tried many on this list. I definitely agree with the Jo Malone Cherimoya. I quite like that one. PdN Neroli Intense sounds right up my alley too. I am not surprised to see Micallef mention. Gorgeous bottles and fragrances coming from that perfume house. DSH always has some amazing fragrances. Great list.

I am in the US. Hard to pick so I will let fate pick my prize if I shall win ❤

  • Monica Beaton says:

Another two well thought out lists and several interesting reviews. I’ve gone over the lists from the past few days and have tried to find a thread that ties one writers favourites together – with little or no luck. I suppose a true fragrance lover collects a varied wardrobe of scents – something I’ve tried to achieve. I’m lucky enough to have a bottle of Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes which I adore. I find it sexy, sparkling and challenging, and have move Lune Feline from the collection to the top of my want list. To CaFleureBon, thank you again for putting together these wonderful articles, and to the perfumers for the incredibly generous giveaways. I’d be more than happy with any one of the scent available internationally, but would love to try Parfums Dusita Erawan. I live in Australia.

  • I haven’t tried any of the fragrances in either review. The Atelier one sounds lovely though. Very dark and mysterious. The Rose Afire sounds really wonderful too. Casablanca sounds like one of the unisex leaning florals of the 60’s or something, which I also like.

Of this drawing, I’d like to get Atelier Des Ors Crepuscule des Ames if I win

Im in IL in the US. Thanks for the draw

  • I definitely love the work of rodrigo Flores roux and lauryn beautiful description of luxurious floriental has me wanting the le gallon. Also would love winning Erawan from Gail’s list
    Eu

  • I would love to win Crepuscule des Ames as I am starting to discover this house and I like what I have tried so far.

I am in EU. Thank you!

  • Fantastic choices, ladies!
I wholeheartedly agree with the choices made concerning fragrances I’ve tried myself, especially with Gail’s list which is so very close to my taste and opinion (Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes and Dusita Erawan are easily among my favorite releases of 2018).
I look forward to trying the ones I’m not familiar with from both ladies’ lists.
I’d be ecstatic to win ANY of the following, in order of preference:
    – 100 ml Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    – 50 ml Antonio Alessandria Fara
    – 50 ml of Parfums Dusita Erawan
    – Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
    – 30 ml of Neil Morris Rose Afire
    – Olfactive Studio Leather Shot

Thank you for another terrific piece, and fabulous draw.
    I live in EU (France).

  • Very rounded reviews that include many perfumes already mentioned but also a few new choices! There are still quite a few I haven’t tried myself but will be very keen on discovering!
    If I won I’d love
    -Parfums Dusita Erawan
    – Neil Morris Rose Afire
-Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    -Antonio Alessandria Fara
    – DSH Lis Oriental
    – Anatole Breton Cornaline
    -Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    -Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    -Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
    I’m in the UK

  • 2018 was a good year! Thank you all for your reviews, they are always a lovely glimpse into a world I know very little about! This list is exciting! If I had to choose from this list based on what I know, I think I’d pick Erawan, Crépuscule des Âmes, Fara, Cornaline, Black Tulip, or L’Ame Perdue! I’d be grateful to experience any of them though. I’m in the U.S.

  • Great at all. I adore Anatole Lebreton, because he was blogger as we are. And my respect goes to Pissara Umavijani for her encourage too.
I’m from EU and like to try Cornaline or Erawan.

  • I wasn’t familiar with M.Micallef, but was intrigued and so read Gail’s post in September on Secrets of Love Spiritual. It sounds absolutely breathtaking. I then went and ordered some older samples of M.Micallef: Pure Extreme, Royal Muska and Emir. I’m curious if this will be an artist that I resonate with? Parfum Dusita also had me intrigued, another niche house on my list. As for the St. Clair Casablanca, I would say her other scents are more interesting which are guided by her experience of the world around her — Casablanca was her imagining of being transported and it didn’t feel authentic to me.

I’d like to sample M.Micallef Secrets of Love Spiritual, Anatole Breton Cornaline and Antonio Alessandrio Fara.

    I live in California.

  • A lot of great juices that i would love to try. Thank you for all the reviews and this exciting giveaway list. I would pick: Crepuscule des ames, Olfactive studio – Leather shot, dusita – erawan, Le Galion – l’ame perdue, Shay and blue – black tulip, Neil Morris – rose afire. Thanks for the chance, i am in the EU.

  • I love the jo malone too! I am familiar with Micallef fragrances and bought spiritual based on Gail review! I live in the Eu and would love to win Dusita Erawan, Shay and blue black tulip, lame perdue and olfactive studio leather shot Great article Now off to read them all

  • These sound marvelous and because you have selected them, I’m most eager to try them. I’d love to win:
    Neil Morris Rose Afire
-Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    -Antonio Alessandria Fara
    DSH Lis Oriental
    Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
Thank you for this fabulous draw. I”m in the USA

  • They are all beautiful scents. Your reviews always explain the notes so well. I’ve learned that I like some more than others. Thank you. My choices, if lucky: Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes or Olfactive Studio Leather Shot or Shay and Blue Black Tulip or Dusita Erawan or Neil Morris Rose Afire or DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental. USA

  • I am from EU and mon chapeau for Dusita. I follow Dusita ´ s journey from her beginning with Oudh Infini, Issara, Le Sillage Blanc and the other. I am very curious for her new perfume Iris. The fragrances of Dusita are very poetique. I wish to try Erawan.
Then I am also impressed by Mon Parfum Pearl from Martine Micallef.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Loved seeing some familiar, but mostly new scents on this list! I briefly tried Crepuscule and thought it was made of quality materials, but didn’t get the chance to think on it more than that. I was busy fawning over their Iris Fauve. I do like Erawan. I find Issara more wearable, but related to Erawan. Erawan is definitely more evocative and unique. The Santal Auster appeals, as I am a huge sandalwood fan, as does the vintage reinvention of L’Ame Perdue. If I were to be so lucky as to win, I’d love to own Erawan, Crepuscules des Ames, L’Ame Perdue, or Leather Shot. Thanks so much for the multiple draws! I’m in the US.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

Another great list, ladies! I really wanted to try Erawan, Palosanto, and Pink Heart this year, but unfortunately did not. And somehow I missed the release of Le Galion L’Ame Perdue and Blocki Sanrovia, which I also would have loved to try. I did however enjoy reading your take on them! Thank you for compiling these great lists! I’m in the USA and if I should happen to win I’d sure love to try Cornaline or Fara. Thank you!!!

  • I live in Kansas City, Mo. I am not familiar with many that made your top 10. I have been interested in Dusita but I’m sure I would be happy with winning anything!

  • What did you think of Gail’s and Lauryn’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018? Gail’s choices that i know first:
    3. Jo Malone Tropical Cherimoya Cologne
Beautiful fragrance, but just like most Jo Malone’s with horible performance.1.5h logevity at very best and sillage…what sillage?
    4.Spiritual M. Micallef
Smells like much lighter version of Kirke by Tiziana Terenzi.I own Kirke so…
    7.Parfums Dusita Erawan
Love it.What a great , and at the same time unusual smell.Chocolate, vanilla, vetiver and hey is what i got.Underated no doubt.Could have been my skin, but Erawan is almost a gourmand on me-it’s sweet no doubt , and i do have a sweet tooth.Bought the official discovery set , and to me Erawan is by very far the best Dusita fragrance, followed by Issara .
    Layryn’s choices :
    2.Antonio Alessandria Fara
Not my thing-super salty on my skin.Don’t like really salty fragrances…at all.
Thank you both Gail and Lauryn for sharing your Top Ten Perfumes of 2018 .
I’d like to win one of :
    1. Parfums Dusita Erawan
2.Olfactive Studio Leather Shot (love the brand-wearing Chambre Noire right now)
    3. Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    4.Shay and Blue Black Tulip

Virginia USA or London UK … at least 97/100 times.

    .

  • This is the third time in just the last week that I’ve heard Diane St. Clair’s work mentioned – she’s definitely one to watch (and I’ve heard her cheeses are incredible too!).

Again, there are lots of scents I haven’t tried, but that just gives me more to have fun seeking out over the coming months (thank you all for doing all the hard work for me and wading through the seemingly endless parade of new releases 😉 ).

I’d love to win any of the following:
    Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
Atelier des Ors Crepuscule des Ames
    Anatole Lebreton Cornaline
    Neil Morris Rose Afire
    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
    Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    Antonio Alessandria Fara
    DSH Lis Oriental
    Parfums Dusita Erawan

Thank you so much for the wrap-up and draws! (I’m in the US)

  • Honestly, I am unfamiliar with most of the fragrances on the list EXCEPT FOR Dusita Erawan which has been on my want list since I smelled it! There is something so strikingly gorgeous about that scent. It is truly unique…I live in Niagara Falls, NY and would love to try to win Leather Shot or Dusita Erawan. My biggest fear is being the person who won and ended up missing a response by one day (spilled perfume…..I wouldn’t be able to live with myself !) Thank you again for all the non stop flow of information!!

  • Oh, Lauryn! I have always paid close attention to your reviews because I think our tastes are similar, and with this list, you’re as spot-on as always. Yes, I would love to be entered into the draws for several of Lauryn’s picks.

    Anatole Lebreton Cornaline
    Antonio Alessandria Fara
    Olfactive Studio Leather Shot

I’m still in Chicago, and thank you, ÇaFleureBon!

  • I agree with many of the choices on this list. Others I have not tried yet. I also think Diane St. Clair for Rising Star of 2018 is an excellent choice though I have not tried her Casablanca yet. I have only heard wonderful things about it. I am in the USA.
    I would love to win
    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue

  • -Two very different ladies with very different tastes. Let’s put it this way I have half of both of their picks open in new tabs to check out and at least two or three of each have me going to the company’s website with two emailing old chums! They are such different lists but they all convey one thing excellent taste! B-)

-What FANTASTIC prizes thanks to all the company’s perfumers and directors and retailers who helped (and, of course, to the whole Cafleurebon crew!) and to Michelyn for always keeping this 3 ring circus running smooth as silk! PARFUMS DUSITA Erawan 100 ml EDP

  • 600 is a lot of olafactive joy. I can’t believe I haven’t smelled anything on Gail or Lauryn”s lists. The two that most jumped out to me were Kilueaa and Palosanto. Fara really sound cheerful. I’d most love to win Fara or Erawan. Thanks for the generous draw. Usa.

  • I love these reviews! So many perfumes added to my must try list! I really wish I had the magic touch with words the way you all do, I find it so hard to describe what I smell and translate it into the feeling.
The floriental description really caught my eye, I’ve added Le Galion L’Ame Perdue to my list of must try!
I’m a registered reader from Saskatchewan Canada.

  • Again a great article with so much gems i have not smelled yet.I will comment only fragrances i’ve smelled :
-Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
My husband is a big fan of Atelier Des Ors – when he bought Bois Sikar i have put my nose on Crépuscule des Âmes, and i have to say it’s a good one.But it’s not for everybody – it’s slightly animalic.
    -Parfums Dusita Erawan
Perfect fragrance for the spring nights. There’s something special in Erawan – one of those happy scents that can can put a smile on your face ,and calm you down.Like a dzen scent.

Unfortunately i’m not familiar with fragrances from Lauryn’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018 🙁 I will sample Shay and Blue Black Tulip and Olfactive Studio Leather Shot. Both picked up my interest.
    My choices:
    1. Parfums Dusita Erawan
    2. Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    3. Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    4. Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
Tnx for the article, lists and the giveaway

Would love to win Leather Shot, Erawan or L’Ame Perdue. thanks for the chance- USA

  • Thank you for another 2 lists, what a treat! Love to hear about the favorite releases!
I’m in the EU and I would like to win Parfums Dusita Erawan or Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes.

  • It’s so interesting to read everyone’s individual favorites, and I am especially interested in those mentioned on more than one list. Lauryn has created a lot of “wants” for me in the past, and I went searching for Map of the HEart Pink Heart but don’t see it on their website so I’m wondering, is it a new one? As always, I would be thrilled with any of these but here’s my favorites to desire:
Le Galion Le Ame Pardue– I read about this on Cafleurebon and was so intrigued that when I was in Paris I looked for it but couldn’t find it anywhere. No one seemed to have it yet.
Dusita Erawan – I tried Pisaara Umavijani’s newest scent when I was in Paris and I love it.
I now am going to add to my list of much tries, which with my budget, will literally last me all of 2019! Thanks for sniffing so many fragrances for your readers! I live in USA

  • I love the list of both Gail and Lauryn. Imagine having to sample 300+ perfumes in a year and still be able to come up with your top 10 list?! That’s just amazing! I’d love to win any of these: Dusita’s Erawan, Atelier des Ors Crepusule des Ames, Neil Morris Rose Afire, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot,, Le Galion L’Ame Perdue. Thanks Gail and Lauryn for sharing. – CA, USA

    Dusita Erawan
    Rose Afire
    Leather Shot.
    DSH Lis Oriental
Thank you for the chance to win! I live in Cali.

    1. Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    2. 50 ml of Parfums Dusita Erawan

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

The choices of Gail Gross and Lauryn Beer are a perfection. Many of these choices in the article are on my want list. I have a traveler bottle of Dusita Erawan gifted to me by Pissara & is one of the best creation by her.
My choice if I win is Parfums Dusita Erawan
    Pakistan

  • I’ve tried & love many of the brands on Gail & Lauryn’s lists, but have not tried a single one of these new releases. I need to change that. Thanks for such originality in your lists! I’m in the US & would love a chance to win:
Atelier des Ors Crepuscle des Ames
    Shay & Blue Black Tulip
    Antonio Alessandro Fara
    Dusita Erawan

  • Great lists, Ladies. I can only imagine how difficult it was coming to just 10 after sampling so many this year. Thanks for the effort and time spent on compiling your lists.
    Let’s see I would love
    Parfums Dusita Erawan
    Antonio Alessandria Fara
Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    Anatole Breton Cornaline
    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue

  • What a wonderful way to spend your day with a beautiful read like this, with a cup of strong coffee, and piece of banana pie Lol Some beautiful fragrances I need to smell. This time I’ve smelled just one from both Gail Gross and Lauryn Beer lists – Black Tulip by the house of Shay and Blue London. I’m a fan of this house- like the presentation, the bottles, the price tag too . In my collection I own Blood Oranges , Salt Caramel , Oud Alif and a few others including Black Tulip I do have plans to get in the future. To me Black Tulip is not semi , full gourmand with the plum and high quality white chocolate . Hope I’ll be able to win one of : 1.Parfums Dusita Erawan , 2. Atelier Des Ors Crepuscule des Ames , 3. Shay and Blue London Black Tulip or 4. Olfactive Studio Leather Shot . Thx for generosity. USA and Germany from time to time

  • Great choices I haven’t tried any of then but I have heard really good things about a few of them. I really want to try erawan by parfums dusita I just watched an interview she did with Mrcologne76 yesterday and she seems like such a kind and passionate person so I am determined to try out all of her creations. I would love to get any of these in my collection. Thanks for the giveaway and have a happy new year! I am in the USA in AZ.

  • Gail’s choice of Parfums de Nicolai Nerol Intense, Patricia de Nicolaï is making me have flashback of my travel to Tunisia. I’d really like to get a sample of this one to see just how this amplified bitter orange tree really smells! Great choice for your top perfume of 2018. (I’d like to win Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Bergamotto di Calabria, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • I have to admit, the Parfums Dusita Erawan was a bit of a surprise for me with a main hay note. I also confess that I have never tested the fragrance on my skin but it seems like it wouldn’t wear well for me. One day I’ll test it out. (I’d like to win Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Bergamotto di Calabria, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • My goodness does Olympic Orchids Kīlauea sound amazing! The smell of vapors of ocean water streaming from hot rocks and crackling earth is right up my alley! I’ve never even heard of this fragrance until today and I’ve decided that this is one I need to sniff in the near future. (I’d like to win Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Bergamotto di Calabria, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • Based on Gail’s review of Santal Auster, would like to try this mysore sandalwood scent by ordering a sample. I wanted to try the Olympic Orchids Kilauea as well.
    1. Antonio Alessandria Fara – ooh, italian lemon, cannot wait for either warmer weather to wear, or a particularly drab spell of weather where I need a reminder of warmer, sunnier days to come.
    2. Cornaline – love Redon, would love to experience this scent, with an intriguing mix of geranium, iris and peach juice! It just sounds so interesting, which I prefer in my personal scents.
    3. Le galion l’ame perdue- ooh, florientals always have a place in my scent wardrobe, supporting me through rainy seattle winters.
    4. Olfactive studio leather shot – would love a lovely leather scent mixed with iris, of which I don’t have enough (either leather or iris, can one say two notes with one scent?)
    5. Parfums Dusita Erawan – would love to try this and experience this calming scent with petitgrain and liatris and lily of the valley
    6. Atelier des ors crepuscule des ames: a scent for dusk and twilight, and I love the word crepuscule, this sounds wonderful.
    7. Lis Oriental – I do like lily, which surprises me,
Shay & Blue Black Tulip – had me at coconut, added to plums and cyclamen, with chocolate mixed in.
thank you for the generous draw, I’m in the US.

  • More great choices and so much I’d like to win. This a little different list than the other reviewers. But none the less still a great mix of some different fragrances.

1.Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    2.Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    3.Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    4.Parfums Dusita Erawan

    Thanks from the USA

  • Yana_Tommelise says:

They all sound so good! From Gail’s list I would LOVE to win Erawan by Dusita because this is one of a very few green scents that actually appeals to me. Normally greens are nothing for me but Erawan is so special and hearing it has comforting effect on the body and warmth of vanilla makes me wanna it twice as much! From Lauryn’s list I would pick Black Tulip because since its release I’ve been dreaming to smell it. Notes intrigue me very much and I absolutely CAN’T imagine how it smells. How nice it would be, if my dream would come true in such a beautiful way.

Actually there is another one from here I fell in love with too. That is Dara. What a sexy citrus! I’d love to win it.

    I am from Germany. Thanks!

  • This was a great list of choices! Many of the favorites were floral blends, which I love, especially rose scents. The description of Neil Morris Fragrances Rose Afire sounds so gorgeous! So Neil Morris Fragrances Rose Afire would be my very first choice.

My second choice would be Parfums Dusita Erawan.

    I live in the USA.

    Happy New Year!

  • Lauryn’s choice of Olfactive Studio Leather Shot really has me intrigued. I’m a big fan of leather fragrances and to hear about the rooty iris also in the fragrance makes it one I would personally choose. Black tea are also two of my favorite notes and are included in this fragrance so it’s on my radar. (I’d like to win Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Bergamotto di Calabria, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • I’m also swooned by Lauryn’s pick of Antonio Alessandrio Fara. Italian lemon ice on a hot day?! This sounds refreshing and perfect for the summer heat. I really enjoy citrus fragrances and so does my wife. It’s awesome to see it listed as Michelyn’s and Ermano’s Top Ten Perfumes of 2018 as well. Great choice! (I’d like to win Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Bergamotto di Calabria, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • So beautiful description of M. Micallef Secrets of Love Spiritual .:
here is;”The spirits of air, earth and sea dance for hours on my skin, dissolving into a dream of cedar wood …”. BRAVO !!!
    I would love to win:
    . Antonio Alessandria Fara
    .Parfums Dusita Erawan
.Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    .Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    .Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    .Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
    USA

  • I have been away but so glad I am back for this
My choices are atelier des ors crepuscule Shay and blue and Dusita Erawan

  • LadyoftheOakenForest says:

Love this writeup! Thank you for this, as each section has been so illuminating. Definitely want to try Meo Fusciuni Little Song, it sounds gorgeous. List to test is getting longer by the minute! There is to a next year in perfumery, hopefully it will be as exciting as this year.
I would love to be entered for Parfums Dusita Erawan, L’âme Perdue Le Galion or Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes. I am based in the UK. Many thanks to the sponsors for their generosity!

  • I think I felt my heart skip a beat when I read the description of Blocki Sanrovia! I’ll definitely be hunting down a sample of that. These end-of-year lists are always educational and terrible for my wallet. I’m in the US and would like to be in the drawing for Antonio Alessandria Fara, Parfums Dusita Erawan, Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes, Shay and Blue Black Tulip, and Le Galion L’Ame Perdue (my first choice). Thanks!

  • I just wanted to take a quick moment to say THANK YOU for all the incredible content and wonderful draws. The opportunity to own these fragrances is really special. The commitment to editorial excellence on the CaFleurBon team is super. Thank you for your great work! I’d like to win Bergamotto di Calabria, Abel Green Cedar, Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.

  • I am really happy to see Neil Morris represented here. I tried his Gardenia for men las year and it is now indispensable for me. I am very interested to try Kilaleau from Olympic Orchids because I love Hawaii so much.
    I would choose:
    Rose Afire
    Leather Shot
    Black tulip
    Fara
    Erawan

    I live in the USA.

  • I’m glad to see Pissara’s work get so much love this year, she deserves it. Erawan is the only one of her creations I haven’t tried yet but anything with clary sage usually works for me.
Another mention of Diane St. Clair. Her perfumes must be THAT good. I can’t wait to try them all!

I’d love to winf any of these: 50 ml of Parfums Dusita Erawan (please please please!), Neil Morris Rose Afire
or 1 dram bottle of DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental

Thank you for another great post and the draw. Russia

  • I forgot to say that another perfume that I was happy to see in Gail’s list was Map of the Heart Pink Heart. A good narcissus is surprisingly hard to come by.

  • Another great list and a few of the same made it on this list too. Would like to try them all if I could. Thank you for the giveaway. Would like
Erawan by Dusita, Rose Afire, Fara, Black tulip
    Thanks again. U.S

  • Map of the Heart Pink Heart sounds lovely and like one that my wife would really enjoy. the combination of narcissus and tobacco seems like it could make for a unique signature scent. Thank you for turning me onto the fragrance! (I’d like to win Bergamotto di Calabria, Abel Green Cedar, Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • I’ve been impressed with Shay & Blue fragrances but it sounds like Black Tulip may be too sweet for me and my wife. Juicy plum and sweet white chocolate may send it over the gourmand edge for me. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy a nice gourmand but this one I’m uncertain of. (I’d like to win Bergamotto di Calabria, Abel Green Cedar, Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • I still don’t have smelled L’âme perdue, but I love some of Le Galion perfumes (own Iris and Special for Gentlemen). And Oudh Infini is also in my collection, although I still have not smelled the new creations from Dusita…

    My choices would be here:
    Le Galion – L’âme perdue
    Dusita – Erawan
Atelier des Ors – Crépuscule des Âmes
    Olfactive Studio – Leather Shot

    I live in the EU.

  • Again I am so impressed with the variety of selections from Gail and Lauren. In just a few words Gail inspires me to run out to try the fragrances on her list – her writing is brilliant. Lauryn is so good, too. She can encapsulate the essence of a fragrance in just a sentence or two so I can really imagine the scent.

If I were fortunate enough to have my name drawn I would be so excited to have these bottles at home:
Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes – on so many “best of” lists I really want to try it!

Antonio Alessandria Fara – I’ve tried this and need a full bottle!

DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental – I remember the review and Lauryn’s description of a velvet Leonard skirt. I have a vintage Leonard suit, velvet with flowers painted on and I completely understand the fragrance it evokes! I also loved the sample and would enjoy a full bottle.

Le Galion L’Ame Perdue – I’m a big admirer of Rodrigo Flores-Roux, and floral orientals so I know I would enjoy this

Thank you for the time and work of creating a best-of list, Gail and Lauryn – and Michelyn for gathering so many bottles of perfume so your readers have the chance to enjoy the fragrances of the year!

  • hotlanta linda says:

Always good writing here – keeps us on our toes! Secrets of Love – Spiritual is my pick. Thank you for the draw! 🙂

  • I don’t think I’ve had the opportunity to try any of these “top tens” but I’m happy to see St. Clair Scents’ newest, Casablanca, on the list! I really liked the first three from that line. Thank you for doing another draw!

I live in the USA and would be happy to win any of:

    -Parfums Dusita Erawan

    – DSH Lis Oriental
    – Anatole Breton Cornaline
    -Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    -Le Galion L’Ame Perdue

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

So far, Gail’s list most closely mirrors my own. I was also pleased this year to see the trio released by Atelier des Ors, but my favorite of the group was Choeur Des Anges, which is my top fragrance of 2018. Of the group offered in thos draw, I would love to try Fara. Thanks for this chance. USA

  • I don’t have the opportunity to smell all this marvellous fragrances but if choose :
Atelier des Ors Crépuscule des âmes , Dusita Erawan or DSH Lis oriental..
Thank you for the draws…I’M a fan of Cafleurebon and I’m from Montreal, Canada

  • More fabulousness!! I am bookmarking many lovelies to try in the near future thanks to you all. <3

I'm in the US, and from this round I'd be interested in is Neil Morris Rose Afire.

  • The list is quite interesting and I love all of them in different ways. I wish I could sample all of them.
My favorite and the one I’ll love to win is Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes.

    I live in California.

  • Great picks again, as usual! Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes is my style, so I would love a chance to win it.

Here’s to looking forward to another year of wonderful fragrances!

  • So many to get my nose on. As I navigate through this list, there are a few that struck a cord with me, and if I could win any of these, it would be these in the following order.
Parfums Dusita Erawan, Shay & Blue Black Tulip, and Le Galion L’Ame Perdue would be my choices.
Thanks again for the opportunities, and the great read.
    I live in the US.

  • Erawan is the only perfume I know and experience from Gail’s best fragrances. I love it and have been wearing it many times. Gail’s review of Erawan is wonderful. I have tried nothing from Lauryn’s list. Since I read all the articles on Cafleurebon, I follow Gail and Lauryn, too.

Lauryn has published the astonishing articles: Archiving the Memory of Scents: Visiting Osmothèque (36 Rue du Parc de Clagny 78000 Versailles France) and Scenting Shakespeare’s Tragic Heroines: Cleopatra and Lady Macbeth.

Gail’s articles Let’s Talk About It: Fragrance In The Workplace, The 5 Plum Perfumes You Should be Wearing, Vintage Niki de Saint Phalle Perfume Review (1982) and Vintage Aramis Devin (Bernard Chant) 1978 -Fragrance Review are among my favorites.

Of course, I enjoyed reading all others Lauryn’s and Gail’s articles.

I’d love to win Erawan, Crépuscule des Âmes, L’Ame Perdue, Black Tulip, Leather Shot, Rose Afire, Fara, Lis Oriental, or Cornaline. EU, Croatia. Thank you.

  • I think what Gail and Lauryn chose are a bit less known perfume companies to me, maybe a bit less mainstream, but surely I’d like to try them too.
Thank you again for the draw! (EU)
50 ml of Parfums Dusita Erawan
100 ml of Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    50 ml Antonio Alessandria Fara
    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue

  • hotlanta linda says:

Just notified that there is no give away in the scent we listed, soooo Black Tulip and Crepuscule des Ames are our wishes! Thank you again 🙂

  • Thank you for the lists. Besides the perfumes I know and like there are at least two I know now that I must try. Descriptions of Rose Afire and Palosanto look very promising.
    My choices are:
    Erawan
    Palosanto
    Rose Afire
    Fara
    Crepuscule des Ames
    Leather Shot
    and Cornaline.
    I live in the EU.

  • I really like these year-end wrap ups! I only recently became more serious about collecting scent, so this is a great way to learn more, especially about the smaller or harder find houses. I recently discovered Ellen Covey’s scents and am madly in love with several. I’d be happy to take home the Dusita Erawan, Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule, or Olfactive Studio Leather Shot. I’m in the U.S.

  • Great lists! I am always happy and excited to read something new about the indie brands, like Olympic Orchids and DSH. Definately I will search for Cornaline and Fara next year, if will not be lucky to win. Thank you, Gail and Lauryn, for sharing your experience with us and many thanks for such prizes!!!

I live in the EU and my choices are:
    – Fara by Antonio Alessandria,
    – Cornaline by Anatole Breton,
    – Erawan Parfums Dusita,
    – Crépuscule des Âmes Atelier Des Ors,

    Thank you and HAPPY 2019!!!

  • I’m in the EU. The top 10s make so many of these sound so amazing and I’m so behind this year. I would love to try Erawan, Fara or L’Ame Perdue based on those fabulous descriptions. Thank you

  • Two more great lists, these two with many that I haven’t yet tried. I own and love Erawan. I am also happy to see Neroli Intense on a list – it seems like Cap Neroli has gotten all of the list attention this year, but I preferred Neroli Intense. Other than those, I am unfamiliar with the rest. For the draw, I’d pick Crépuscule des Âmes or Cornaline. NY.

  • There are so many mentioned here that I had not heard of. I’m always excited to hear about new Micallef releases. Black Tulip and Leather Shot sound particularly captivating. Thank you Gail and Lauren for these great reviews! I live in the U.S. and would love to win:

    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue

  • I’m still trying to work my way through the Dusita range! They are all so exceptional of all the ones I’ve tried.

I also really liked Secrets of Love Spiritual – such an intense and dramatic scent.

Thank you for the draw! My choices are:
    Parfums Dusita Erawan
    Neil Morris Rose Afire
    DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental

and I am in Melbourne Australia!

  • Great top 10 picks I definitely need to get my nose on some of these!

    Musc Encense
    Bergamotto Di Calabria
    Cap Neroli

I’d love any of those ones! I’m in Canada

  • I honestly haven’t put my nose on any Jo Malone’s but Tropical Cherimoya Cologne has me thinking that I need to! The sound of fresh, slightly tart pears followed by cherimova sounds lovely. I’d like to get a few tropical perfumes. (I’d like to win Bergamotto di Calabria, Abel Green Cedar, Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • Lily is a hard note for me so seeing DSH Perfumes Lis Oriental has me interested in giving it another try. I do like the idea of a spicy, dressy yet velvet fragrance. This one sounds interesting. (I’d like to win Bergamotto di Calabria, Abel Green Cedar, Antonio Alessandria Fara, Olfactive Studio Leather Shot, Hiram Green Hyde and Parfums de Nicolaï Cap Néroli. I live in Arkansas.)

  • So kany beautiful perfumes and description.
I am intrigued by Erewan Dusita. I have tested her 2 perfumes and can say very well blended, very beautiful in classic style.
I love leather so I hope I will test Olfactive Studio’s Leather Shot, all the more so it’s created by legendary Mr. Douchaufour.
Thank you for this draw: my choice are:
Atelier Des Ors Crépuscule des Âmes
    Parfums Dusita Erawan
    Anatole Breton Cornaline
    Shay and Blue Black Tulip
    Olfactive Studio Leather Shot
    Le Galion L’Ame Perdue
