WE LOVE THIS STORE:  Alan Berdjis of Beverly Hills Perfumery + Roja Parfums Draw

 Beverly Hills Perfumery exterior

For my third, WE LOVE THIS STORE, I went West, to the Left Coast, specifically my hometown, Beverly Hills (90210), to pay a visit to Beverly Hills Perfumery.

Beverly Hills Perfumery interior©

Conveniently located one block over from Rodeo Drive on Beverly Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills my first introduction to Beverly Hills Perfumery was on a prior business trip. I discovered the store quite by accident while heading to a meeting from my hotel.

Firstly, I was surprised that I was unaware of the store and secondly, by the large selection of vintage men's and women's fragrances. It is a niche lover's paradise with a glorious selection of some favorite brands, AmouageCaronMontaleOrmonde JayneEtat Libre d'OrangeRoja Parfums (an impressive collection of 100 different Roja Dove perfumes and  products are carried here), and Tiziana Terenzi, along with a few I had yet to experience. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to take it all in on the trip.

Alan Berdijis Owner/ Store Manager of Beverly Hills Perfumery

Returning recently I got that chance to go deeper. I met up with Alan Berdjis, Owner/ Store Manage of Beverly Hills Perfumery,  an expert on vintage fragrances.  I spent a couple hours with him over two days.

NY Times article

Besides our passion for fragrance, we bonded over both having been raised in Beverly Hills, our parent's having had businesses with Beverly Hills in the name  (in close proximity to each other on Wilshire Blvd)., and both of our families having being touched by cancer, his mother a Breast Cancer survivor, and my mother passing to cancer when I was in high school.

Jila and John Berdijs with Kenzo, Valentino and Puffy (Alan's dog)

Alan's parents, John and Jila, both Jewish and Bahá'í, left Iran prior to the revolution in 1977 and settled in Vancouver, Canada where Alan was born in 1980. His family then moved to Beverly Hills in 1985. His father a doctor by profession also comes from a long line of doctors in Iran.

Mural from the original store

As I was sampling I had some questions on the history of the store. I found out that his mother opened the original store, Beverly Hills Perfume Center on Camden Drive in 1990. His father a wholesaler at this point opened the second shop on Wilshire Blvd. in 1992, just a few blocks from his wife's. Why did his parents have dual stores blocks from each other? Did they carry the same products? Yes. Were in competition with each other? No, not at all. I wondered if the stores conflicted with each other. Alan stated that they even with the close proximity to each other they had a different clientele. Alan worked at both stores before they were both closed in 2010 and re-opened in the current location.

Display case at Beverly Hills Perfumery

Over the last five years, Alan has transitioned the 2,500 square foot store over to niche brands. Beverly Hills Perfumery has a knowledgeable and wealthy Middle Eastern, Mexican, Russsian and European clientele. They carry over 100 Oud products alone! The majority of the stores business is brick and mortar purchases.  We spoke on the state of fragrance shopping in Beverly Hills which gives consumers have no shortage of options from Barney's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sephora, DiptyqueCreed (just opened), and Jo Malone. Beverly Hills Perfumery stands alone by offering a very different experience to fragrance consumer from their unique collection of vintage fragrances to the impressive tightly curated niche brands they carry (over thirty).

I asked Alan to suggest six new scents based on the parameters of my fragrance profile I shared with him from houses I was not familiar with. He suggested three lines I knew only by name and reviews (and was looking forward to discovering them here) since many of the brands they carried I knew well. Alan recommended choices that he felt I would appreciate and were also some of his favorites.

Royal Crown

Alan recommends  Royal Crown which Beverly Hills Perfumery is  the sole stockist in the US as of this date. I asked, "how did you come across the brand"? From Roja Dove fans that posted about it on social media, he knew that they were buying them at Harrods. He chose HABANOS a slightly boozy oriental woody and CELEBRATION an elegant citrusy aromatic, both signed by Antonio Visconti the owner.

House of Matriarch ( CaFleureBon introduced the line in 2010 to our readers and Christi has worked with Michelyn camen on three perfumes)

Next was perfumer Christi Meshell's Seattle based natural perfumery house House of Matriarch.  Beverly Hills Perfumery is one of a couple stores that carry their full line. Alan suggested TOUKKA TA TAO, a floral fruity mixture, and DESTRIER, a dark leathery almost animalistic powerhouse.  Alan recommended Mancera's SO BLUE (Piere Montale) a gorgeous Oriental floral and Red Tobacco a woody spicy frag which both performed well on me. I would give the nod to SO BLUE (even though I am no fan of aquatics).

 Ombré Rose

The heart and soul of Beverly Hills Perfumery are their vintage collections. The store stocks one of the most comprehensive collections of vintage perfumes for sale anywhere. The designer fragrances are arranged in a perfume timeline by decade starting with the 1960's through the 2000's in trays. Over one hundred in total. They will certainly bring back your childhood and is a must for collectors. These are to be experienced when you visit the store and are not sold online. I'm not aware of a store that can rival their vintage collection. Their Arabic clientele alone will buy 20-30 bottles over the course of a week just from one of the vintage trays.

I enjoyed learning about the history of this shop and the owners. I’d love to visit next time I’m in L.A. I’m curious to see their vintage offerings. That’s wonderful that they have a display of vintage fragrances arranged in a timeline. A fragrance not mentioned in the article that I would choose is Costume National Soul. If I should win, I would pick Roja Creation-R. Cheers!

  • The history of the store was really interesting. I was unaware that he sold and had a large collection of vintage scents. I did not see any mention of Jovoy which is an amazing house. I certainly wish a store like that was near where I live. I would really like to try Roja Fetish.

  • Wow, Alan store looks amazing. Everytime i’m watching some youtube reviewer that shoots a video or do a live in that shop (like Jeremy last time), i can almost feel the warm atmosphere in there and the fantastic smell inside. Also from what i saw in the videos and fragrance community i’m sure Alan is a fantastic guy and the perfect host for fragrance lovers. I would choose Virgin Island Water by Creed and if i should win , i would pick Roja Creation-R. Thanks for the chance, Oakland US

I enjoyed Hernando’s story detail about how Alan and BHP came about in Beverly Hills and a touch story about his parents which I didn’t know before. Been in BHP several times and bought quite a bit fragrances from Alan/BPH and can consider Alan a fragrance friend as well. Beverly Hills Perfumery is indeed the Disneyland for the frag lovers and fragheads like me and can spend the whole day discovering, sampling and testing fragrances to our hearts content all under in one roof. Not mentioned fragrance house that one will have a grand time discovering are from the Tardes,Nasomattos,Boadecia and so many others. One can go on and on in that store all day. Such a wonderful place to shop for fragrances. Good that it’s quite a drive for me otherwise I’d be there every single opportunity. Escondido CA

  • Over 30 niche brands! The House of Matriarch display made my eyes water. I’m definitely going to add their website to my list. If I have the opportunity to visit, I’d choose Orto Parisi Terroni. And if I’m lucky, I would like to win Roja Dove Parfums Innuendo. Thanks for the fabulous draw.USA

  • Just Add Light says:

Really interesting to hear that Alan’s parents opened essentially identical shops just down the street from each other! Definitely hard to beat the unique consumer experience people can get from a true mom-and-pop establishment. In addition to the huge selection of vintage formulations, I was also glad to hear that Alan was able to give personalized recommendations, even from little-known brands – a trait lacking in retail outlets – and a principle reason why I would love BHP. If I could choose only one bottle, I would probably pick up Baraonda by Nasomatto (I love boozy fragrances), but I’d definitely choose Creation R Pour homme to win. NC-USA.

  • I really like this installment and the entire We Love This Store is such an awesome idea! What I liked most was the personal connections he made. I love when people work together and find humanity and common ground – it is beautiful! I feel like I would love this store because I live in Iowa and we just don’t have a place like this anywhere to experience hard-to-find luxury brands. The BH Perfumery website is very nice, I can only imagine how nice the store would be in person! The fragrance from the store/website not mentioned that I would choose (a very, very tough decision, by the way) was Roja Dove’s Brittania. It sounds so amazing! If I were to win, I would choose Creation-R. It also sounds like I would love it! Thank you for this opportunity. Iowa, USA.

  • Thanks for fantastic article, I really enjoyed reading about some of the vintages and some great pictures , I always enjoy pics of fragrance especially vintage and all the incredible bottles . I would definitely love this store for the selection, prices and Alan has a good reputation as being a great store owner and outstanding customer service . If I had to choose a fragrance from Beverly Hills Perfumery I’d Choose Ormonde Jayne Montebacco. And If I was lucky enough to win the draw my choice Roja Creation-R…

Im in the U.S. thanks for giveaway

  • Just seeing the photos from the store makes my head spin! I’m not sure I’d want to ever enter such a store for fear of never coming out again! 😀
I don’t know what I would pick from that store, so many beauties…Perhaps Amouage Lyric. Of the two in this draw should I be that lucky, I would like Innuendo.

  • This was a most interesting article and I enjoyed it tremendously. I would love to visit it in person, even though this article was like a personally guided tour. I’d love the Ambar del Sur by Carner Barcelona, but if I win, I’d love the Roja Innuendo. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Thank you for the tour! What a dream come true to visit such a store with niche as well as vintage perfumes. I would check out the Amouage line, Lilac Love or Sunshine in particular. If I were to win I would choose Innuendo. I am in the US.

  • RobertNicolasB says:

Wow, fantastic article and what a dream shop! I love the fact that even though they have a massive supply of niche brands, they still have a large vintage fragrance clientele base. I would probably choose a Boadicea the Victorious like Imperial if I had my pick, but just having the ability to smell so many creations in a single location would be mind blowing; I wouldn’t know where to begin. I would choose Creation-R if I won. I am in the US.

  • Oh wow. A lot of things (and my image of Alan, as I know him from his activity on the forums) now make a lot of sense!!
I appreciate your intro to small perfumery stores- I believe there’s nothing more magical than walking into one and getting to be on the receiving end of an educated, passionate keeper. It’s rarer and rarer nowadays, and I’m doing everything I can (and spending all I can, when I can) to make it last.
I’d die for anything in the Kemi line (Jabir and Aurum have been on my list for ever now!!!), and if I win I’d be extremely happy basking in Creation-R. I’m in the US.

  • yungcherrypops says:

Loved hearing about the story of the place, and wow! That vintage section sounds incredible! I would love to visit that place and sample some of the legendary vintages I’ve heard so much about! If I could choose anything from their site, it’d probably be one of their Mancera or Nasomatto fragrances – Red Tobacco, Hindu Kush, Pardon, or Duro. Would prefer Creation-R, have heard so much about it! I’m in the US.

  • Valentine Girl says:

The locker above mine at work always smelled like perfume & one day I finally met the owner of the fragrant locker, who is just as obsessed with perfume as I am. He is the one who first introduced me to Beverly Hills Perfumery, as he is always getting “something from Alan”. I have been the lucky recipient of many samples through my perfumista locker friend & I am currently exploring the Initio line; Psychedelic Love is top pick and then I want Addictive Vibration, as I have already blown through both of my samples. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to see inside the store & I didn’t realize that they had such a wide selection of vintage perfumes. It was also nice to see a photo of Alan, so when I tell my friend at work “that smells really good on you” and he replies, “I just got it from Alan” – I now have a face to associate with the name…LoL! I think I would enjoy Roja Creation-R the most. Thanks. USA.

  • I have been aware of Alan for years now and have bought few vintage perfumes from him. I have 9 of the vintage women perfumes that are best seller at his store and all ten vintage men that are best seller though I may get rid of Bijan which I really wanted to like but a bit too spicy and herbal for me. My choice is Creation-R, I am in US.

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

    Hello there
Did not know about Alan’s origins, for some reason I thought he was Latino, but I was wrong! Always had him covered on his trips to Europe and the UAE, he’s got such a passion for the vast array of a careful curated collection. Also did not know about the vintages, I will probably ask about pierre cardin, pour homme. And BTW I would like to try the roja creation R.
Next time I’m in LA, I will take time to visit.

  • I loved learning about the history of the store and the family, its so crazy his parents each had a fragrance store a block from each other with different clientele, I wonder how the clientele differed and which store did better. I love that Alan has made the store his own by mainly selling niche fragrances and I would love to visit the store and browse through the vintage fragrances and learn some of their history! I would choose Boadicea The Victorious Adventuress and if I won I would choose Roja Innuendo. I live in the USA.

  • Such a lovely article portraying a fascinating store, owner and family… it almost feels like I have stepped inside to explore the wonderful world of niche and vintage perfumery. Thanks for sharing this fascinating article with your readers. I would love to experience such a variety of creations in one shop such as BHP. The top 10 vintage lists were fascinating as well. I would love to choose PdM Percival from their site but would be elated to receive Roja Creation-R/Risque if chosen. I am in the USA.

  • What I enjoyed about Hernando’s visit to BHP is really hearing about what the store has to offer! I would love to visit because it sounds like a “niche lover’s paradise”. A fragrance that I would purchase from the site would be Nasomatto Baraonda. The fragrance that I would like to win is Roja Creation-R. Thank you for the incredible opportunity! USA

  • Loved the pictures and vintage offerings. An amazing place. I need to go there! I would choose Roja Enigma Woman if I could. I live in the US. Also the home memories for Hernando and Alan are incredible to read. Love the history. Thank you for the great article.

  • I enjoy all the pictures of the store. I’d love to go here because it seems like a collector’s headquarters, a good place to meet fellow fragrance lovers. A fragrance from their site I’d choose not mentioned in the article is Nasomatto Duro. The one I’d like to win is Creation-R. Cheers from Indiana, USA.

  • Alan has such a wonderful reputation for knowledge and generosity in the Frag comm. I would love to sit with him and just explore perfumes. I also love that his parents were both perfume merchants! I would love to try Parfume de Marly Delina…it’s pink!! I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • prasida.perfume says:

I enjoyed the coverage of the hard to find items at the boutique, both the rare brands and their selection of vintage perfume. I’m sure that I would buy something from their vintage selection if I visited. On the website I find the Royal Crown line fascinating. I wish that I could try Rose Masqat and Oud Jasmine. I would select Innuendo. I live in New York City.

  • It is real interesting to read this article, to know about Berdjis family business. I slways think that Alan is latino))
I like the shop’s interior and good range of niche brands. If I be in LA, I will visit Beverly Hills Perfumery amazind world and hope to meet Alan, who well known for every US niche perfume lover.
I would like to test Royal Crown collection and some Roja which I have not found in my local shops.
A fragrance not mentioned in the article that I would choose is Xerjoff Sur del Cruz 2.
I would like to win Creation- R.
    US

  • Really enjoyed reading this article. What draws me to this store is the niche and vintage fragrances available at this store; which is in the same vein as some of the stores I visit here in Seattle. Similar to Hernando, I’d probably ask them for suggestions for different fragrances that might not be available at my local store since I’m not a blind buy type of individual.

As for the great drawing, I’d love to win Creation R. Thanks from Seattle, WA.

  • I wish I could have been with Hernando at BHP, What a cool and fragrant adventure. I have shopped on Alan’s website before. He is a very pleasant genleman to do business with. I would choose something from the Royal Crown line ,possibley Khan.. I will win the Roja Creation E , when I am chosen. I wish !!! I am registered with Carfluerbon and am a loyal reader of your site. Love it. Jim in Md.

  • doowtnehpets says:

I like the part about holding the signed Guerlain bottle with the picture of Alan holding the bottle. I didn’t know signed fragrance bottles was a thing. Haha. I would absolutely love a store like this. Wish there was something even remotely similar where I live. I have to order all my niche fragrances online in samples if I want to smell something. Would love to be able to go in somewhere and smell stuff. If I won I’d go with Costume National Homme from their site. Sebastian always raves about it and I’d love to try that.

  • I enjoyed learning the history of the store, and that Alan’s parents both ran stores in close proximity to each other. I look forward to visiting the store in the future and checking out the vintage offerings. PDM Oajan would be my choice for another fragrance to try. If I am lucky enough to win this drawing, then I would chose Roja Creation-R. Cheers!

  • Great article! I have heard of Beverly Hills perfumery before but I had no idea how huge of a selection they had, most companies only carry a handful not only that but vintage too I definitely need to check it out. If I every find my self in Beverly Hills I’ll definitely stop in. There isnt a place that sells niche within 100 miles of where I live. I liked learning about the history of this shop I bet it was a great experience growing up around all sorts of unique fragrances. I’m glad to know that azzaro pour homme is still popular it one of my absolute favorites, I own every formulation. I would love to try creation-r I hear it is one of the most amazing classy opulent fragrance and it would be perfect for the upcoming winter season. Thank you for the great article and the generous giveaway. Keep up the good work. I am in the USA in AZ.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

What a cool store! A fascinating idea for a brick and mortar store to sell vintage perfume (along with a whole slew of other gems!). I would choose Carner Barcelona Rima XI from the store, but if I were there in person I know I’d have a much harder time deciding! The logo of this store is tastefully done – I sure would love to visit. Thanks, Hernando, for giving us a tour. 🙂

I would choose Roja Creation-R parfum for men. Thank you for this store introduction and generous draw!

  • This place just seems like a great perfumery. It’s a real fragrance lovers kind of place. You can tell the owners care a lot. Also, It has a great story behind it. I love family businesses that are passed down. I would love to visit the place just to see all the history in the bottles there. Plus the selection seems huge most places only carry a few houses. If I could choose any perfume on the sight I might go for Amouage Lyric Men, but there’s too much to choose from. I would like to win the Rojo Innuendo, thank you.

  • Alan is such a nice guy. I would love to meet his store because I am a niche lover and collector.
Since I dont know Roja Haute Luxe, I would choose it without a doubt. If Im lucky enough to win, I would choose Creation R.

  • I have long dreamed of visiting the store. i love that they sell vintage and nice fragrances in the same location (even though that would make choosing just one bottle so difficult. I checked the website and I would love to try Bloody Rose by Dear Rose.
If I were the winner, I’d choose Creation-R.
    I live in the USA.

  • I was not aware of this shop! I haven’t been to Rodeo Drive since I was a teen in the 70’s. A friend and I decided we needed to see what all the fuss was about. Now, I would like to go back!! I would love to check out the Royal Crown line which I have not heard about. I would choose House of Matriarch Coco Blanc because I have heard a lot of good things about this fragrance. I am embarrassed to say I have only tried 2 from Alan’s feminine vintage list. I’d love to visit this shop to learn more about some vintage fragrances and that it is side by side with niche is a bonus. USA. Thanks for the chance! Roja Innuendo would be my pick if I’m the lucky gal!

  • Sounds wonderful, I don’t have any stores like this near where I live. I think I would sample PdM Herod since I haven’t had a chance to yet.

    I’d be like a kid in a candy store…

  • I would love to visit this store on my next trip to LA!!
Looks sooo dreamy!! Sooo many high end niche houses!!!
I really enjoyed reading about the story of the family & store. I would totally support a business like this one!! A fragrance I would pick that isnt listed would be Elysium by Roja Dove, that one blew me away! Its amazing!
But, If I were to win I would pick Roja Dove Innuendo! I live in MN, USA!
    Thank you soo much!!!

  • I have been aware of Alan for 2 years. When I try to find niche perfume with reasonable price in fragrance community they often guided me to Alan Berdjis or Beverly Hills Perfumery. Great person with great service. God bless him and his family. By the way, I read about his parents with big interest.
i like Beverly Hills Perfumery shop! Very comfortable, nice shop with interesting and big range.
i was surprised to learn about vintage perfumes in this shop. WOW!!! I would like to test Bel Ami Hermes.
I would like to test Carner Barcelona a and Kemi perfumes.
    US

  • What I enjoyed most was hearing about the selection of discontinued fragrances and the history of Alan’s family. I found it interesting as I too have family that are Jewish and Bahá’í that moved to the US from Iran in the early 70’s.
I would love this store as it seems to be a candy store for fragrance lovers with an eclectic ambiance.
If I were to pick an exact fragrance from the site that wasn’t mentioned I would go for Roja Parfums Creation-E Pour Homme.
Should I win the draw I would chose Roja Parfums Creation-R for men.
    Fort Lauderdale, Fl

  • This looks like a fantastic store and I hope to visit. I am especially interested in the vintage collection – it seems like there are many perfumers making vintage inspired fragrances and the idea of experiencing the real deal is increasingly interesting to me, Kouros and Mitsouko among the designer ones, but so many others. I’d like to check out Agonist, in particular Black Amber. I’d pick Creation-R.

  • I love that Hernando added a personal touch by including pictures of Alan’s family and the mural from the original store. Personally, I love pretty much everything about the store because of the amount of unique fragrances that are carried. I would love to win Creation-R and not mentioned in the review would be layton exclusif.

  • What an interesting visit. I would love to go to a shop with an extensive niche selection and have 6 fragrances picked based on my prior experiences. The fragrance mentioned in this article from the House of Matriarch (Toukka Ta Tao) is supposed to be hard to come by, I’m surprised they carried it in their inventory. From their website, I’m interested in their Oud selections. For a while I’ve known that my mom’s country Malaysia exported Oud but I’ve never had the chance to try it. That and maybe that bottle of Costume National Homme that would go nicely with the storm that’s expected to his the Northeast. Thanks for throwing this giveaway. If I were to win I’d be interested in Creation-R. Cheers from CT.

  • Great read, i enjoyed learning more about BHP! I’ve corresponded with Alan for a while now, he’s a dearly loved friend in fragcom so meeting him would be the best part of visiting his store. I would love to add another Royal Crown to my collection, so I’d spend my time sniffing that house. Creation R would be my pick for the giveaway.

  • Emmanuel Boansi says:

There are many niche stores out there but Alan’s customer service sets him apart from the others.

  • I heard about this store for several years and it’s amazing that such places exist
Will be your customer soon. Thansk

  • It was cool reading about the history behind Alan’s business. I did not know it has been in the family for so long. I am jealous because i live all the way across the country in MA and I would love to be able to visit his shop and smell all day and pick his brain. I am so glad we have him as an asset to the fragrance community. I have purchased from him several times and he sends samples with every order that keep me coming back for more. If i were to win i would want Alan to pick a Roja from the gulf collection for me. His favorite one.

  • The photos of every house was documented. It gives people who are out of state or country an idea how the store is. Amazing article! More power to both Alan and Hernando! If i win, I would like Roja UAE 🙂 thank you

  • The story is amazing and the passion for fragrance is just a wonderful thing and then to have so many fragrances that quality is also great. Congrats on everything now and in the future.

  • This is a store that I have always wanted to visit. Due to where I am stationed there isn’t many places around me to go for a large collection of niche. The owner of the store is semi famous on Facebook due to his unbeaten prices and how positive he is. I would love a bottle of creation-r. One on the website that I would like to try would Elysium Roja

  • This is such an awesome write up! I feel special and proud that I can say I’ve boight bottles from Beverly Hills perfumery and Alan! He has been nothing but awesome and wish him the best of luck in the next 100 years of business 🙂

  • Thanks for taking us inside Beverly Hills Perfumery. Alan’s one of the good guys in the fragcom and basically introduced me to niche fragrances. I bought my first niche bottle from BHP not very long ago — Parfums de Marly Habdan — and he was such a great source of information on the house and other fragrances he thought I might like. It was fun to see what an awesome setup he’s got inside the store, and I hope one day to visit it in person!

  • Deric Metzger says:

Alan is the best hands down. Always quick and knowledgeable, and always gives the best suggestions when asked. Consumate expert and professional and I couldn’t have asked for a better discovery than Alan and his shop. This is a well deserved honor and the dozens of bottles Alan has supplied me is just the start. Bravo my good man!

  • Khiesah Walker says:

Maybe this business continue on it’s successful pursuit of passion, journey and interest of customer service for 100years plus!

    Thank you

  • Very interesting read, im new to this fragrance world and i would def visit here one day when i have the chance haha. Cheers!

  • I love Alan’s store. I’ve picked up at least 10 bottles from him. Very knowledgable, great staff, great selection, and the coolest dog ever (Puffy).

  • Michael Lynady says:

Alan is the epitome of a class act. Amazing selection, fantastic prices and always gets back to you with an answer to your questions. To not do business with him is just silly.
Keep up the great work Alan!

I have made multiple purchases for Alan through fragrance groups but it was recently that I learned he operated BHP now loved reading about the history behind it. Special to me was the bonding about their mothers as Breast Cancer is near and dear to my heart and why I do what I do. Honestly I would be happy to win either bottle but Creation R would be my preference. As far as additional bottle that I would love to get that I don’t believe was talked about would be Roja Dove unspoken and Madison if it ever turns up at Alan’s store. Hopefully one day I will be able to visit but for know online shopping only for me.

  • Tomas Cacdac Apacible says:

I love how the selection caters continuously adapts to the current hype around the fragrance community while still offering selections for those looking for something new and different, beyond their comfort zones. I’m interested in Xerjoff Ivory Route

  • Hello,

I really enjoyed learning about the history of the perfume store and how it became to be what it is now. I had no idea it was full of history but I’m glad Alan shared that for us. I would fall in love with this store because to me , as a perfume lover, it would be like being a child inside a candy store. I wouldn’t want to leave until I’ve tried every fragrance they have. I would choose from the stores website Roja Parfums Amber Aoud Parfum, I’ve been wanting to try this one for the longest time. If I were to win this giveaway, I would choose Roja Parfums Creation-R Parfum Pour Homme.

    Regards

  • Very well deserved. Thanks for all the excellent deals and helping me stock my shelf with goodness Alan.

  • Nice – you forgot to mention that Alan doesnt use or sell those crappy overpriced .7ml sample (dabber) vials like some of the other fragrance stores. He gives you 4 – 2ml – spray vials of your choice with every order.

I’m going to have to sample some of those recommended fragrances mentioned in the article. Good write up and story.

  • I really enjoyed this review of Beverly Hills Perfumery. Although I’m located in Utah, I don’t have the luxury to actually visit the store but have been in touch with Alan over the years on various fragrance channels online and phone. Great person to do business with and is very thorough in his knowledge and inventory. We’ve also talked about the history of his site and how it has evolved over the years through his family. In the interview here, you really got more in depth about the history I found interesting.
Of the perfumes I’d choose.. I really dont know wherle to begin. But if I had to choose it would be various Roja Dove Fragrances. The intense versions of amber aoud and musk aoud. Qatar, Kuwait to name a few. As Alan knows I also . i have my sites set on a few royal crown perfumes. One in particular RC Absolute. Must have

  • I have been to this wonderful shop, and Alan is a true gentleman and fountain of information. He helped my son and I find a great Mancera perfume, and we samples his garden of scented delights. If I went again I would Alan if he had anything old, rare and unusual to smell, and I would ask him for a crash course in Guerlain (A house I have explored very little of). Best of luck to everyone!

  • jbeardmemphos says:

Wow, great article! Alan is a great person and I’ve interacted with him many times online for purchases. I really enjoyed that you told the history of BHO, as I’ve always wondered. I definitely would like to visit his store sometime, and I think I’d enjoy not only the fragrances but also the oud chips that he sells. One fragrance that I would like to own not mentioned would be either Roja Creation-E or Roja Bahrain. If selected for this giveaway, I’d choose Creation-R. Thanks!

  • Alan is a great part of not only the community but of the industry. He is very mich appreciated… O hopento on3 day make it out west and step foot in th as t amazing shop! This article didnt only tske me there, it also took me thru Alan’s life. From Alan I would get histoire de parfums This is nkt a blue bottle. If I Win I would pick Ceation-R pour homme.

  • To answer the question for the giveaway, the fragrance I would choose on the site that is not mentioned in the story is Roja Parfums Creation-E Pour Homme Parfum.

If I win the draw, I’d choose Roja Parfums Creation-R Parfum.

  • I loved learning how much vintage BHP carries. As a vintage enthusiast, its great to know where to go to for vintage as well as current releases. I would choose Patou 1000 parfum on his website. I would enjoy Roja Innuendo . A super article about a great store.

  • What I loved most about his visit is that I didn’t know this was a place and now it is on my bucket list! Of course I would love this store because I love fragrances. Would be heaven in there! To name a fragrance that I love that wasn’t mentioned has got to be PDM Layton exclusif! If I were to win the roja I would choose creation-r! Haven’t had the chance to own a roja yet so that would be amazing

  • Thank you so much for the clear walkthrough of Alan’s perfume store. Have always heard about wide selection of their offerings but never got the chance to visit in person. Would love to stay there for days and play with every single bottles and smell them all! Thanks so much again!

  • I always enjoy hearing about stores to add to my travel bucket list, and I would love to visit. I enjoyed hearing about Alan’s family ‘s businesses, and would love to sniff some of the vintage fragrances to get a better sense of materials that are no longer available! I would love to try Caron Narcisse Noir, or Coco Blanc by House of Matriarch, but I admit it wild be very very hard to choose! As for the very very generous draw, the notes of the Creation-R sounds lovely, but I’m sure the Innuendo would also be nice. If I won, I would ask if it were possible for Alan to suggest one or the other based on my favorite notes… But if it were not possible to ask Alan for his recommendation, I would choose Creation-R pour homme. Thank you for the generous draw and the lovely article. I’m in the US, WA state

  • I like how Hernando really explored the store and the review wasn’t just “it’s at this address”/”they carry this”.

I would love the presentation of the store, just looks like you’re walking into a luxurious fragrance paradise.

Not mentioned: Parfums de Marly Layton
    What I’d like: Roja Creation-R

  • I’ve heard a lot of good things about Beverley Hill Perfumery, I’ll definitely try to visit the store when I go to LA

  • I loved the account of the history of the store and the cute pics of his parents. I love this store because of the owner, Alan as he is a great guy a fragrance not mentioned for their site that i would choose is Roja Dove Saudi Arabia. Should i win, i would choose Creation R.

    Thanks!

  • Hi, i am very impressionated to this article.
I am very happy to read for niche fragrance, and i’m fun of Roja Parfums. It should be very amazing think to win a bottle of this niche fragrant house for this end of year.

    Thank you

    Good luck to all

  • I would choose Creation r Parfum if I won. This is a fragrance I used to own and miss. I love that the history of the store and Alan’s family was mentioned. I didn’t realize that this store had been around for so long. I think I would’ve chosen (from the store not mentioned) Imperator by Royal Crown as it is such a gorgeously clean scent. One of my favorites from the house along with Oud Al Melka. Thank you for this draw. Kenneth from Niagara Falls.

  • I must say the fact that both share a similar familiar history especially the cancer especially which has been a plague within families lately and the fact that he went in dept on The history of Beverley Hills perfumery was insightful . I am big on customer service which Alan seems to pack a whole lot of, for that I would always choose Beverly Hills perfumery not to mention his knowledge about niche fragrances. If I should choose 1 fragrance that wasn’t mentioned It would be Boadacea The Victorious Heroine, and the fragrance I would like to win from the roja line is Diaghilev (it’s way over the $450) lol but anyone will do. Thanks for this opportunity

  • What a fun review! My favorite thing about Hernando’s visit was finding out more about the history of BHP. If I won, I would definitely pick Creation R. The thing I would like about the store is the opportunity to experience world-class fragrances that aren’t available anywhere else in the US (such as Royal Crown). I’d select Sospiro Erba Pura for myself.

  • Beverly Hills Perfumery is top notch when it comes to perfume shops, not only do they have anything you could ever want but they are second to none in customer service and integrity! I am from the east coast and I have been purchasing fragrances from them for almost a year, I am always very happy with my purchases and the service they provide is excellent! The owner Alan is a great guy and he communicates directly with his customers, I cannot recommend Beverly Hills Perfumery enough!

  • Barry Nachman says:

Great article not just on the business, but the family who came from what appears to have been at one time a prosperous and well respected family who left their country in times of turmoil to be begin a new journey and successful creating a well respected name with outstanding selection and service. Have dealt with Alan many times and nice to hear about how this family got started in their business. Congrats to the whole Bergiis family and many more years of success.

  • I have bought many items from Alan, what a great guy. I remember the first time I contacted him. He spent at least half a hour talking to me about perfumes and didn’t know who I was. So thoughtful and I consider him a friend. Thank you sir.

  • heribertomaya says:

I very much enjoyed learning how Beverly Hills Perfumery came to be into what it is today. This is the greatest perfume store in the U.S and the best customer service in any industry, period. Alan is an incredible guy and deserves all the credit he is getting. If I won, I would choose Creation R for men.

  • JerryWRivera0 says:

This is an absolutely lovely article on the rich history of Beverly Hills Perfumery and the staple it has become in the Fragrance community today thanks to the work of Alan. I’ve been doing business with Alan for almost a year now and I have been able to realize pieces in my collectuon that I could have never dreamed of owning a year ago. I continue to be amazed by the cutting edge BPH stays on and I will continue to give my business to them as they have some of the best, almost tailored customer service you’ll find anywhere. There are several purchases I look forward to making from here including some great Initio amd Parfums De Marly fragrances. I would love a chance to win Roja Dove’s Creation-R as well. Thank you Cafleurebon for highlighting such a wonderful business.

  • Kyle Stevens says:

Alan is such a great part of our fragrance community. Congratulations for the recognition it deserves. I would love to win a Roja Dove perfume, if not oh well I hope to do business with Alan soon.

  • Fantastic article! I was unaware that Alan carried so many Vintage fragrances! Have only ordered online but would love to visit his gorgeous shop.
I would buy OJ Frangipani if I could and would choose the Roja Innuendo if I won. Thanks for the generous giveaway, I live in the U.S.

  • I would love to visit the store to buy vintage perfumes. I have never purchased form the retail store but I have purchased Costume National Homme for his online store. If I could pick one fragrance form his store not mentioned in the article it would be Histoires de Parfums Prolixe. If I won I would pick Roja Innuendo. Virginia resident.

  • I’ve purchased many perfumes from Alan via online. He’s an amazing part of the fragrance community. He’s always prompt and willing to answer any questions! I’d love to visit his shop some day and finally meet. Great article and I’d love to win the Creation R!

  • I learned about Allen and Beverly Hills Perfumery a little over a year ago and purchased a very nice Fragrance, Montale Wood and Spices. Received great samples as well.

  • It was definitely interesting learning about Alan’s ethnic background, his parents + a little about the roots of the Beverly Hills shop. Also interesting to discover the shop carries the house of Royal Crown. Was that there when I stopped in 1 ~ 1.5 years ago or did I just look over it? Haha! One reason I would like this shop (do like this shop, I’ve visited before) is the vast selection of very difficult to find niche fragrances. As a fragrance enthusiast I travel long distances (hundreds of miles, and would travel thousand’s if i had my passport to travel abroad) to get my nose on rare scents. One fragrance that was not mentioned in the article that I’d like to get my nose on is Montale Aoud Cuir d’Arabie. I’ve only recently warmed up to leather fragrances, and after reading reviews, it seems like one I may enjoy. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with Roja Parfums Innuendo Pour Femme, so if was was to win the draw, it would be a privilege to have Risqué Parfum Pour Homme. Thanks for the generosity! Good luck to everyone 🙂

  • Ok I absolutely loved the flashback of Safari by RL! I would love, love, love, to visit the store all day and go get a coffee then come back! 🙂 It is just a perfumista’s dream. I actually haven’t ever had a Roja, so would love that.I would love to try the Perfums de Marly Delina. The Frankincense sounds lovely!

  • I have done business with Beverly Hills Perfumery through Alan for several years through our online fragrance community. They are my favorite source for niche perfumery! I look forward to visiting the shop in person some day. They are knowledgeable, friendly and carry all of my favorite niche houses! I am sure the oud they burn there daily smells amazing as well! I really enjoyed learning about Alan’s family and the history of the shop! I have my sights set on obtaining Green Sapphire from Alan next from Boadicea the Victorious. Another opulent, exclusive brand that they offer that is difficult to obtain in the US.

  • Wow!, What a nice store. The fact that carry many high-end niche fragrances is really nice. I like the fact that Alan as owner is also hands-on with day to day sales as well. The one fragrance I would love to try is Crown royals’s Celebration. If I were be fortunate enough to win I would choose Creation R. Thanks.

  • Very nice shop and the selection is great from new to vintage. That’s what’s best about his article. The shop features a nice selection of vintage and what a great list to boot. I’m a Amouage guy and love Interlude man. Creation R for me. Thanks for the giveaway

  • I would love to win this Roja. I have bought cdkm Alan before and the experience has always been great.

  • I have to go to this store next time I’m in LA. Maybe they have a vintage Caron Or et Noir waiting for me. I love that the vintage perfumes are arranged by decade – it would be like going through a real-life timeline of scent. On their website Caron Nuit de Noël is what I lust after the most. I would be so happy to win Innuendo. I live in the US.

  • I really enjoy that Beverly Hills perfume carries so many luxury brands and private lines. I love their website, even though I havnt been able to afford Roja yet I would love to own one.

I would love amber aoud precious, but if that is off limits then Scandal poure homme would be wonderful too !

I cant tell you how grateful I am that he ships far and wide and helps the frageance community so much.

  • Love your vintage top ten! In my younger days I had Grey Flannel and Kouros. Also used English Leather, Brut and Gai Karate. I’m going to LA in early December I hope y ok get a chance to visit.

  • I loved the article, my favorite part was the history of the store, the history of the perfumers and the houses. I loved learning the origin story of the store. I would love to try Mancera Hindu Kush. I live in Arizona.

  • Alan is the prime example how you should run a business.Ordered 7 times from him – each and every time 10/10 kind of experience:
    1) Fast reply on Social medias , mail
    2) He was able to find 2 old and long gone vintage fragrances for me.Both brand new , at a decent price.
    3) Super fast shipping
Overall experience – perfect each and every time.Niche, vintage, limited editions, country exclusives – he got it.Highly recomended.Unlike some other self-proclamed “premium” boutiques…
I am a fan of Roja Dove fragrances-own full bottles of Parfum Version of Enigma/Creation-E and vintage version of Bergamot Extrait -by FAR the best bergamot fragrance ever imo … unfortunately discontinued
From the whole site i’d like to win Creation-R also known ouside of US as Risque for Men.As i said i’m a fan of the brand.
I do follow all of you on Instagram @cafleurebon and @bhperfumery.I also follow @rojadove , @hauteparfumerie and @alanberdjis
Thank you for this generous draw.
    P.P.
One of Alan’s recommendations Toukka Ta Tao by House of Matriarch is a collaboration fragrance made by Christi Meshell and the Youtube reviewer Timmy Vangtan of Imagine Scent

    Virginia USA

  • I enjoyed reading the history about the family and how they started their stores. It’s always a great feeling getting to know family owned businesses and how they started.
Risqué Parfum Pour Homme Is one perfume I find interesting in the store.
If I should win, I would pick Roja Creation-R.
    I live in California

  • Wow! I did not know Alan’s parents were from Iran. Awesome read. I would love to try something by Sospiro which wasn’t mentioned in the article. Apart from that, I would definitely choose Creation R if I win! Thanks for the write up.

  • I’ve bought from Alan before but would have loved to have the in store experience. I would love to win and perhaps pick danger or scandal.. I’m located in north Carolina

  • Alan is a legend among FB groups for his exceptional service I’ve only hand the pleasure doing business with him over Internet. His prices for niche are great dispite their exclusivity. I’m glad he’s getting the attention and respect he deserves wish I had found him when I first started my fragrance journey! I’d love to receive anyone of his offerings. Wish i weren’t so far in North Carolina Good luck to everyone.

  • Beth johnson says:

I love Alan!! I have ordered from him in the past and he has always been so patient with my many many questions. Every experience has been super easy and terrific. I love that he helps you select and is generous on the sampling. It’s hard to know what you’re going to love without giving it a good wearing.

I would love to win any Roja. I’ve fallen in love with Diaghilev tho and think at some point I’m going to have to pony up. I’ve emptied 2 decants. But what I was most excited to read was how he did a scent profile for you and suggested options. There are so many lines that I haven’t even tried. It would help to know where to start.

    Thanks foe the great review!

  • “Middle Eastern, Mexican, Russsian and European clientele”

Russian and european ? Seriously? Hernando that’s second grade geography.Use google next time.I’m with russian descent , and to me that was offensive. After all over 115mil. people are living in the western part of Russia – in Eastern Europe.

About Beverly Hills Perfumery-never been there up until now , but i saw quite a few Youtube video-s-Carlos from BFL,Sebastian and so on.All of them are praising the store and the owner .
What impresses me most is the fact that i can buy both buy high-end niche fragrances like Roja Dove , and at the same time i can buy some old vintage ones.Fantastic .
Also i really like the background of this store , the 2 stores his mother and father had in the past.
I really want to win Creation-R – one of the best fragrances i ever smelled..It’s marketed for men only, but it’s 100% unisex to me-as a woman i don’t have a problem wearing it.The fragrance is discontinued , and no-that’s not a rumor. The customer support from customer-services@rojaparfums.com told me both EDP and Parfum versions are gone for a few months now.
    I’ll check @bhperfumery too.
    Cheers from VA

  • John Michael Jones says:

This is such a huge accomplishment when one thinks about how many fragrance retailers have come & gone over the years. The fact this company is still going strong speaks volumes. Their success is a direct reflection of their passion for outstanding customer service & love of what they do. CONGRATULATIONS GUYS & I hope you have many more decades of success!!

  • Quadratus_Lumborum says:

I purchased from Alan in the past and he’s such a pleasure to work with. He goes above and beyond for his customers and is extremely knowledgeable in his craft. He was gracious enough to provide a sample of Roja Kuwait with my order and it would be awesome for an opportunity to win such a gem.

I haven’t been to the store myself but definitely envious of Hernando’s trip! Thanks for the great read!

  • I’m a customer of Alan and can atest to his amazing customer service. I didn’t know his mom is the one that first opened the store. One of the perfume lines not mentioned that he carries is Boadicea the Victorious. If I won, I’d choose Creation-R.

  • I think it’s amazing that they carry both niche and vintage perfumes. The selection is intense to say the least! I loved hearing about the family history too. I’m interested in Costume National Scent Intense Eau de Parfum. If I won I’d prefer Innuendo but they both sound so good. I’m in the USA.

  • I really was in awe of not only all the various niche houses Alan carries but the vintage frags as well. The men’s top ten list took me back to a child & teenager thinking of how my father owned quite a few of those fragrances. It’s the kind of nostalgia where you can strangely smell the fragrance when you’re reminiscing about past times. Beverly Hills Perfumery is definitely tops on my “places to visit” spots the next time I’m in California..

  • I like learning more about Alan and the history of the store. I would love this strore because of the wide variety of niche fragrances that they carry. I live in a niche desert – no stores that carry niche fragrances within 6 hours of me. I would want to get my nose on Kemi fragrances Luna, Aurum, hyatt and some of those high end BTV fragrances.

  • Faisal hayat says:

I usually purchase my perfumes blindly by notes description ( don’t have any stores offering niche products where I live). Alan, your store sounds like a fraghead paradise. I primarily collect Oudh oils and vintages. Will like to try Rojas ( haven’t been impressed by his originality though).

  • Donovan Reich says:

I enjoyed learning more about the history and family background behind Beverly Hills Perfumery. Alan is a great guy and I’m lucky enough to have visited and experienced the BHP difference for myself. The selection of niche brands is superior to any retailer, and they carry the most exclusive brands on the west coast. I would choose hands down a bottle of Royal Crown, purely for the exclusivity and design of the bottle. When I last visited, Alan did not yet have them in stock, so surely another trip is in store. Should I win, I would have to choose the bottle of Roja Dove Innuendo Parfum.

    Thanks! Good luck to all!

    Donovan
