Montale Vanilla Cake Perfume Review (2018) + Not Plain Vanilla Draw

WayneThibeaud painting© 1962

The House of Montale launched several new fragrances this year. Montale Vanilla Cake was the one that captured our attention. In cuisne, I don’t love vanilla foods nor cake, but I do wear many gourmands;most feature vanilla prominently. When I first heard about Montale Vanilla Cake, I couldn’t help but associate the name with something a pre-teen would wear. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Montale Vanilla Cake is a Montale perfume after all, so there are edgy ingredients that turn what could have been a literal interpretation of a frosted cupcake into a fantastic vanilla that never overpowers or smells like extract.

  • My wife would LOVE this stuff. I always enjoy Sebastian’s honest take. I don’t have a favorite Montale but I do love vanilla fragrances. Arkansas, USA

  • dextercharles85 says:

Notification hits, I see its Sebastian and I’m like let’s goooooo!!! This review of Montale’s Vanilla Cake makes me want to eat cake lol. He did a great job of conveying the smell into words. I adore gourmand fragrances, smelling edible I think is sexy. I’ve never had a chance to smell any Montales so having a chance to winning this beauty would be AMAZING!!! I feel I should win because I love gourmands after watching Sebastian I want to smell like this so people will want to smell me as much as I would want to smell myself

  • Mmmmm sounds delicious …. I love watching Sebastian; there is something about your reviews that keep me wanting more. I would definitely love smell tha to me and be part of the Montale Train.

  • I love gourmands so this sounds right up my alley! I like that Sebastian list the notes and mentions what makes this scent unique. I have no idea what a yougart cake is, but I would like to smell it! I have a lot of favorite vanillas and Montales. My favorite Montale is Sweet oriental dream. My favorite vanilla is IL Profumo’s Vanille Bourbon And La Maison de la vanille’s Vanille noire du Mexique. I’m in California.

  • I enjoy Sebastian’s takes on fragrances very much. I’m subscribed to his channel, facebook page. I share his enthusiasm for for deeper darker fragrances and I like that he picks well known as well as lesser known fragrances, designer or niche, to review. I’ve only smelled and owned 1 Montale before- Intense cafe. And I love it. Vanilla cake sounds fantastic. I am a passionate home cook and I’ve been intrigued by gourmand fragrances lately. So I would love to win the chance to try and wear Vanilla Cake!

  • James Weaver says:

I like the way he describes the dusty almond opening and then the way the yogurt cake note gives it a tartness. My favorite Montale fragrance is Full incense my second favorite Montale is Honey Aoud. Virginia USA

  • Never owned a montale and to be honest, this is something I’d love to smell on my girl. Hope I win this for her. Pittsburgh Pa.

  • I enjoyed Sebastian’s video because he fully covers the main details on the fragrance, and does it without overcomplicating it (which is good because i’m new to the fragrance community). After watching the video – i’ve decided this would be a fragrance i’d like to have because I am into gourmandish fragrances and its a plus that this one has a “mondale” twist to it. Sounds interesting

  • Tom Schroeder says:

I enjoyed how Sebastian describes the notes, yet says that it has an unmistakable Montale twist. I don’t know how to imagine that, which is why I would love to win the giveaway. My favorite Montale fragrance is Intense Cafe, and I also love Red Aoud. I like vanilla scents, with Spiritueuse Double Vanille being the first and foremost, followed by Serendipitous with its touch of orange and cacao, which smells the most like cake to me, and closely followed by Tendre Madeline, smelling just like the cookies. I live in California, USA.

  • Love Vanilla. Unfortunately, I’ve never tried any Montale’s so this would be a very interesting experience as a first exposure to the line. Which has an impeccable reputation for quality and performance. Sebastian always takes time to really describe a fragrance from top to bottom, very helpful. Never disappoints

  • Amy Leonhardt says:

This sounds delicious. I liked that I could imagine the tartness mixed with the gourmand vanilla based on his description. Yummy but a little rough around the edges..perfect. CA, USA

  • middleagedandmixed says:

I’ve tried a sample of Montale’s Intense Cafe, but I have yet to own any bottles from this house. I’ve recently discovered Sebastian’s channel on YouTube and really enjoy the reviews and being introduced to new fragrances. As someone who is very fond of vanilla, his video of Vanilla Cake has really piqued my interest.

  • I’ve recently got into trying out different fragrances and definitely plan on starting a new collection. I really do like unique smells and would love to try and have this one in my collection. I’m so glad I found Sébastiens YouTube channel. Cheers from Texas!

  • Jake smith says:

Sebastian did a wonderful job in the review. I have been getting into montale latley and so far I love all the fragrances I have tried. This one seems like my cup of tea gormounds are my favorite style of fragrance for sure especially anything really heavy on vanilla which is my favorite note. I am definitely getting a bottle weather I win or not it just sounds to amazing to pass up. Thanks for the giveaway and keep up the good work! I am in the USA in AZ.

  • Great review and what yummy notes, I’ve never tried any gourmands from Montale, but I have and like Greyland from this house. I’d love to try this one, especially after Sebastian’s statement, that it is not a gourmand, like many others. I have address in Huston, TX

  • Eric Sanchez says:

I loved the review from Sebastian. This sounds like a great fragrance. I would love to experience this for my self. I have yet to test any Montale fragrances. Hopefully I can try this one soon.

  • kkarnes1986 says:

I love that in his reviews Sebastian gives a lot of details on all the changes the fragrance goes through in its life. I don’t have any Montale fragrances, but would love to win this one to try the house for the first time.

  • After Sebastian’s review i think i can already imagine the smell of this juice and it will be my piece of cake ; vanilla cake :))) As about my favourite Montale, until now it remains Honey aoud . Great video as always from Sebastian. I would love to win this beauty since i like quality gourmands a lot, thanks for the draw.

  • veevsmack says:

This sounds so delicious, especially the tart yogurt cake note Sebastian mentioned! And he described a cookie-ish, fruity effect that made this sound not too heavy. I’m always excited about out of the box gourmands. I’ve never tried a Montale frag because I always had the impression that the brand was too masculine for me, but this giveaway would be a wonderful introduction to the house.

  • Thanks for a great review. Sounds like a grown up vanilla – appreciate what sounds like a tangy yogurt note and bitter almonds….other notes sound like alone they would be too sweet. I would love to try this. I’ve not tried any Montale fragrances and am interested in exploring this house.

  • I like Sebastian”s honesty and that he reviews a really wide variety. I am just getting started with my fragrance collection and have not had the pleasure of getting my nose in any Montale frags yet. I would live for this to be the first.

  • I love Sebastian’s down-to-earth style and his lack of pretentiousness when reviewing high-end fragrances. I own Montale Mukhallat, which is a ‘sort-of’ gourmand and I would love to try this one. Thank you for the chance…I am in the US.

  • I love how he can evoke his emotions regarding gourmand fragrances like this and you can really tell he loves it! I do not own a Montale fragrance, which is why I would like to win this one! I’m running off of a small sample of Coco Blanc and need a vanilla cake type fragrance in my collection!

  • Sounds intriguing. Love the description of all of the notes and how he walks through the lifecycle of the fragrance. I’ve only ever tried Intense Cafe from Montale but would love give others (including this one) a try

  • Have tried a couple of montales but never owned any bottles. This sounds very unique and interesting. New York usa

  • My favorite part of the video was the constant Montale click of the spray lock on the bottle, ha! I’ve only tried Spice and Woods and I’m not a fan, but I love vanilla so I’d like to win this bottle.

  • MarkyMark5d says:

I’ve always wanted to try montale because I love mancera… Quality is insane. Well it’s been a bad year my grandpa whom I love with has cancer and is receiving chemo treatments and my money has to go to him after all he has done so much for me that I can never settle that debt. But if I win at lease I can smell good in the fall & winter time.
Again thank you mancera / montale for your quality it means your not just out to take everyone’s money for water like creed lol

  • Wowwww, the notes really sound like a cake is being made. To walk around smelling like a piece of cake sounds like a plan. Lol Sebastian is always on point and the best with his reviews

  • Vanilla, caramel and cake…amazing combination! This one sounds very intetresting. My favorite Montale is Intense Cafe.
Thank you for the review and draw! US

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

    Sebastians great as usual
    My fav Montale Intense cafe,
And Id like to win because Im a Fan From this house
    Miami Florida

  • bournedaniel says:

Sebastian does great reviews in general. He is passionate about fragrances and this shows in all of his videos. This particular fragrance appeals to me so I thought I would enter the competition. I am not familiar with man Montale fragrances, but I do have a bottle of Intense cafe which both my wife and I enjoy.

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

I have very limited access to the brand but I can say that iam a big fan of montale, since my favorites are blue amber and mukhallat.
I’m also a big fan of Sebastian and vanilla of course mainly because it is my mother’s favorite note. She is passionate about Shalimar.
Loved Sebastian reviews and I’m curios to try the cake. Lol
    Best regards.

  • twiggy3634 says:

I always enjoy Sebastian’s honesty. My favorite Montale is Greyland. I’d like to win because I don’t really have any gourmand/dessert style fragrances. I do like the vanilla note though. Cheers from Indiana USA.

  • amirpasha says:

Sebastian does the best reviews, he covers everything from the notes to price, and gives his idea about it, my fav montale is oudmazing, because it sweet and oudi, I would like to win this contest because this fragrance sounds very yummy to me and I would love to have it in my collection. And yessssss I love vanilla perfumes!!
Thank you and wish me good luck plz

  • OMG! I loooove vanilla cake! (the food, never tried the fragrance) Sebastian always does such a great job! I liked that he was able to describe such new, difficult notes with such ease and in such an understandable way. That is usually the genius that Sebastian brings to his reviews. I have never tried anything from this house, but I would love to! That is why I would like to enter this giveaway – to FINALLY try something from Montale. And also, yes, I love vanilla fragrances! Thank you for this opportunity! (IG: Scentthusiast) Iowa, USA

  • Malka Leybov says:

I love sweet vanilla fragrances. I have not tried any Montale fragrances but I have meaning to for a few months now. I’d love to try out this scent so that I can add it to my growing perfume collection.

I love all of Sebastian’s reviews because they are honest and informative. Thanks again, Sebastian!

  • Diana brun says:

I would love to try this fragrance! Just listening to Sebastian description it seems to be right up my alley! Thank you! Lovely review!

  • collinjinks says:

What was great about Sebastian’s video was the detail in the fact how this gourmand is not your conventional gourmand…. Best reviews around, really. The presentation, format, honesty and so on. Gourmand fragrances are such an interesting genre in that the fragrances smell delicious but in a very “perfume like” way (ie not directly smelling like cake, frosting etc, but rather evoking those scents when we smell the fragrance itself). Being a huge gourmand fan (Feve Delicieuse in particular!!!!), this fragrance sounds delectable! I have actually not had a chance to try any fragrances by Montale, but would love for this to be my first! I would like to win because, well…….. vanilla!!!!!!!!

  • notVanilla says:

Hmmmm a vanilla that has a twist and isn’t sophomoric? Yes please yogurt. But bitter almond perfume I crave and am always looking for.

  • Lori Laws says:

I always look forward to Sebastian’s reviews as he is always spot on in his descriptions! I am glad he stated this is not a pre-teen fragrance to get to the essence intended. This review has me wanting vanilla cake and Haagen Daz vanilla bean ice cream. Montale does amazing and unique fragrances. My favorites are too many to name. I need this one in my collection for sure. Thanks for the draw and I live in the US! 🙂

  • Loved the review by Sebastian. I am really ready for some cake now or maybe a try for the new Montale perfume! Thank you! I live in the US.

  • I love Sebastain’s candor and he and i have some very similar tastes. I remember him mentioning this one and was so happy so hear his reaction. I’ve only ever sampled Cafe Intense from Montale, but I loved it. I am a gourmand fan alllll the way – chocolate, vanilla, almond, coffee, hazelnut, caramel…..YUM!!! I am confident I would adore this and would love to add it to my wardrobe, so good luck, me! Thanks for the draw, from NY, NY in the US!!

  • I do not have a Montale favorite, as I don’t have any from this house. I liked Sebastian’s review, as always, and would like to try a grown-up vanilla . thank you for the draw, and i’m in the US.

  • Great review Sebastian! I love how you broke down each of the notes and described the fragrance from the top to the dry down. My favorite Montale from the few I’ve tried so far is Aromatic Lime. The reason I would love to win is that I love gourmand fragrances and I know you say it’s not a typical gourmand, but you made it sound very appealing.

  • What I liked about the review, and also why I’m interested in this scent, is that it doesn’t sound like a typical gourmand. That it has some tart touches, and some typical Montale aspects. I’m not sure what the latter means, but I’m guessing maybe there’s a bit of something like their oud note; something medicinal maybe? Or just their usual boldness. So it sounds decadent without sounding too much like I want to bite my arm lol.
My afvorite from the house is probably Black Aoud.
    In the US. thanks

  • roxhas1cat says:

I love to eat yogurt cake. I love gourmand fragrances, but if Montale can keep them from going into “cupcake lane”, Sounds great, especially a bit of bitterness from the almond. I would love to win because I love gourmand fragrances. My favorite from this line is Patchouli Leaves and Intense Cafe. I have a few vanilla fragrances in my collection, but they don’t scream “food”, just touch on the note of vanilla. Thanks for the chance. US.

  • I really enjoy vanilla fragrances a lot. The review indicates a uniqueness to this one that I’d like to experience. US

  • Still haven’t tried any Montale fragrances. Enjoyed the review by Sebastian and oils like to try this out. I do like vanilla fragrances
    Thanks. U.S

  • WaltherP99 says:

Nice job by Sebastian-one of the best,if not the best Youtube reviewers.Bitter and and the same time dusty almond, buttery and creamy, with some nice milk and caramel … what a start , and in the drydown some green and sour hints …just WOW .To be honest as a gourmand lover i’m drooling right now because of this review.
I am a HUGE Montale fan – right now i do own 10 100ml bottles , and i want like at least 30 more WOW.I do like to win beacause i ;pve the brand , i do like not all , but most , plus vanilla is one of my favorite notes.

Tnx a lot for this great draw !!!
    Virginia

  • As Sebastian mentioned in his riview it’s not a typical gourmand scent. It’s Montale after all. My wardrobe is missing a vanilla parfum. So sign me up. Lately I have been loving Monntale Arabians a lot. Actually wearing it right now.
    Thanks for the draw
    USA

  • I am intrigued by this perfume because my favorite Montale is Amandes Orientales which has almond and vanilla in it. Sebastian’s review makes this one sounds different, lacking the bitter almond note found in AO. I am in the U.S. Thank you for the generous giveaway!

  • Sebastian reviews are so good – bought so much fragrances because of him.The way he describes fragrances is like the lyrics from the famous Eurythimcs song “Here comes the rain again” :
    Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
Falling on my head like a new emotion

Now can’t get them out of my head , and i’m about to think about this fragrances quite a few times per day-i need to sample it as soon as possible.
Vanilla Cake should be right up my alley type of fragrances – realistic gourmand, and i really like vanilla fragrances.I do love both Montale and the younger brother Mancera.I’m not familiar with all Montale fragrances – after all they do have so much fragrances in their portfolio , but i have to say i bought the 5 i liked most – in no particular order Mukhallat,Amandes Orientales,Intense Cafe,Tropical Wood and Oudmazing.
Long time Instagram subscriber to Sebastian , Cafleurebon and Montale , and now i follow Europerfumes too.

Sebastian is a wonderful reviewer and knows his stuff he described this fragrance perfectly pros and cons …I hope I’m still eligible for leaving two comments

  • I adore Sebastian’s reviews! And this scent sounds incredibly yummy!!!! I have yet to purchase a fragrance from the House of Montale. I SO want this one!!! It is definitely on my wishlist!!
    I live in the US.

  • Oooh! The tart yogurt cake note is definitely one I’m wanting to try! I like that it is a little different take on vanilla. One of my favorite Vanillas is also by Montale: Vanille Absolu. I also own Sandflowers and have a few others on my wishlist. I’d love to add Vanilla Cakde to my collection!!

  • While he described the fragrance I literally imagined stuffing my face into a birthday cake and suffocating myself if that delicious creation. I don’t own any montales except a decant of lemon line and I love how it smells like a freshly squeezed lime. I would like to win since it would be my first bottle and whenever I get a new house I go on a binge and shop for building my collection. I Love vanilla everything!!!!!

  • mnguyen53 says:

Really enjoy the way Sebastian describes fragrances and I haven’t tried any gourmand fragrances or a Montale before, but now held making me hungry for a vanilla cake with almond powder.
Wondering which store close to Seattle would carry it.
    Thanks!

  • aquanitemare says:

Having smelled some Montale, I’m interested to see how a gourmand with that signature DNA would smell. I’m not too into the straight sweet smells, so this sounds amazing. I like how succinctly Sebastian described the fragrance.
