This summer has flown by, and while the temperatures aren’t  whispering of fall, the back to school sales and aisles full of spiral notebooks, pencils, glue, and backpacks are screaming it.  For those looking to squeeze in some last minute summer fun, take a fragrant trip that conjures a seaside 24/7 carnival. If this sounds like the vacation you  wish you hadn’t missed this year, check out Bond No. 9’s Coney Island.

Bond No. 9  mission since its inception is “making scents” of New York, capturing  its many neighborhoods, diverse cultures and beaches in a bottle.  In 2007, Creative Director Laurice Rahme in collaboration with Master perfumer Michel Almairac of Robertet,  released Coney Island,  homage to the resort that opened to the public right after the Civil War and whose Brooklyn beach, boardwalks and amusement parks,  was once a playground for the rich and famous. Before there was Disneyland, before there was Seven Flags, the place for summer fun was a small strip of sand stands on the Atlantic Ocean

I am landlocked and have never been to Coney Island (nor New York for that matter), so Bond No 9’s Coney Island  was like a trip to the fabled amusement park. It opens with a tart and fresh note of lemons that remind me of fresh squeezed lemonade and lemon hard candies.

Juicy fruity and fun boozy notes (the type that have umbrellas) come into play. Then the real fun begins as fluffy, soft-colored clouds of cotton candy float by.    Sweet baked treats waft through the air…cakes, candy vanilla ice cream and sticky gooey caramel

Lest you think this is a treacly gourmand, the real magic is that Bond No.9 Coney Island transforms into  a day at the beach, with  marine notes of sea air, driftwood at the drydown.  It is a perfume party, a crazy ride on the Cyclone and as polarizing as Thierry Mugler’s Angel. It deserves some blogger love, especially as the temperatures soar and there is no place I would rather be than by the shore.

Notes:  margarita mix, melon, guava, cinnamon, chocolate, caramel, musk, vanilla, cedarwood, and sandalwood.

I love Bond Coney Island! 🙂 I’ve never been to a NY beach…but my favorite Bond summer scent(s) are Little Italy and NY Fling.

  • When I was quite young, I was knocked unconscious in the water at Jones Beach on Long Island. Believe it or not, I was saved by the chatter of birds; I woke up in a flock of seagulls! Jones Beach was insanely crowded, but I had floated out far from the noise of people and their radios. . .and walked for what seemed like ages back to where my parents were. I had just had this wild experience and I tried to explain, but they thought I’d made it up! I still love birds. Thanks for the draw!

A dash of margarita mix, melon, guava, cinnamon, and more … enticing, delicious and clearly unforgettable. Coney Island, art, fashion and hot dogs: and always summer.

The Coney Art Walls are breathtaking, pure happiness in large scale murals. Nothing quiet at all. I live in Venice Beach, which is like a carnival too. Happy when you smell the salty air. When I walk on this boardwalk, hints of the squats that Jim Morrison and William Burroughs stayed in remain.

I don’t know the rest of the Bond No 9 fragrances but enticed. USA.

I’ve never been to a New York Beach. I’m not sure what to suggest for a Bond “visit” … perhaps a very animalic scent called Bronx zoo? Alas, I’m not familiar with any Bond No. 9 scents. That’s why I should win this one! I’m in USA.

  • I’d love to try the Bond No. 9 scents, but haven’t had the chance yet. I’d love a scent that honored the NY library where I spent some very happy times as a recent graduate many years ago – the hush, the wood, the scent of old paper. I live in the US. Thanks for the draw.

what a timing..one of my best friends was visiting NY last week and I met him after a period of 8 years. One of the places we visited was Coney Island beach and it seems the vacation is still not over for NY as the beach was quite crowded…thanks so much for the draw. New Haarlem may not be summer fragrance exactly but it is my fav. from the line.. I am in the US

  • I have never been to a NY beach but both of my parents are from Brooklyn. Growing up during the depression, they never had much of anything. I can look back over their old black and white photos and that is enough for me to see that some of their best times and children were spent at Coney Island.

  • I recall the smells of the beach, Coppertone, salt, sand, seaweed, and driftwood. I like Bond No. 9 Riverside Drive. US 🙂

  • Ooh, an aquatic gourmand sounds very enticing! I’d love to see Bond No. 9 make a fragrance called The Statue of Liberty. It could be an American interpretation of classic French perfumery…maybe they could add Bird of Paradise, a flower which symbolically stands for freedom. I live in the US.

  • I’m in the market for a good beach scent and Coney Island has been on my sample list for years; the margarita mix is especially enticing! I’ve never visited a NY beach, I’m not familiar with NY enough to suggest a new neighborhood to scent and while I love the Bond 9 fragrances I have, non could be called summery, exactly, but my hands down favorite is New Haarlem. Thanks for the review and draw, I’m in the US.

  • My current favorite Bond is Manhattan. I think it’s time for Bond to come up with a Staten Island scent. What I remember about being on a New York beach is listening to an old-fashioned device called a radio. USA

  • I love Bond No 9 Fire island for summer. I have never tried Coney Island. How about Tribeca for a locale. I live in USA

  • I have never been to NY beach, although I love the beach. Especially islands, St. John, St. Croix, Jamaica…love islands. My fav bond scent is Manhattan. This frag sounds quite enticing! Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I’ve never been to a NY beach and don’t know much about NY neighborhoods, but I wear Chinatown and West Side all year long. Maybe an Ellis Island fragrance would be interesting: hopes, dreams, and something that smells beautiful from every region of the world. Coney Island is a fragrance that I’ve wanted to try for years but somehow never gotten around to. I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • Wow this sounds surprisingly delicious – I say that because I don’t tend to think gourmands sound good. I don’t really have Abby good memories of NY, barely been there. Likewise I’ve never tried a Bond. So I don’t have a favorite, but maybe they can make a Korea town scent. Hehe… Fro-yo, tea and smoky bbq?

  • I’ve not yet been to a New York Beach to make a memory (it’s on my bucket list). My favorite Bond No 9 summer scent is Fire Island – it smells like a day at the beach.

  • I’ve never had the opportunity to visit NYC but it is on my bucket list for sure! I do have several favorite Bond no 9 scents though and for summer I love to spritz I Love NY for Earth Day. I am in the U.S. and thank you for the draw :).

  • My favorite beachy Bond scent is Fire Island, but I’d love to try Coney Island too! Thanks so much, I’m in the US.

  • Well I have never been to a NY Beach, but my favorite Bond No.9 fragrance not just for summer but all year around is Chinatown, which coincidently was also my introduction fragrance to the Bond No.9 fragrances. Thank you for the generosity and opportunity. I am in the US
