Guillaume Coutou's Les Chevaux de Marly

Parfums de Marly is a Contemporary French luxury house that draws inspiration from the past, specifically the grandeur of 18th Century with the theme of equestrian and dressage transformed into perfume. Each fragrance is named for a horse or carries the leimotif of the noble animal, and the many breeds throughout the world.  I first learned of the brand from Nasreen of Parfumerie Nasreen, then  experienced  the collection at The Elements Showcase in NYC in 2013; I  fell hard for the feminine Safanad (Fabrice Pellegrin) with its beautiful blend of orange blossom and pear.

Most of the perfumes are shared and one of the latest, Layton, certainly can be worn by women as well as men. Creative Director Johann Sprecher started the House in 2009 and CaFleureBon was one of the first to write about the brand, with Herod (Olivier Pescheux) being a perfumista favourite with its strong tobacco and vanilla notes. M. Sprecher has commissioned some of the best perfumers in the world to fulfill his vision including Natalie Lorson, Jacques Flori, and Siddonie Lancesseur and his stable of scents  now number 19.

Layton as interpreted by its creator: "I imagine cascades of aromatic scents bursting from the royal fountains while racehorses in dazzling dresses set out to shine during the equestrian exploits of the age" Hamid Merati-Kashani of Firmenich.

  • This scent sounds so amazing. The Apple note really intrigues me and I have been told that his smells like a designer scent. But I am still really interested in getting my hands on a bottle of it!

  • Darren Newell says:

I always like how Sebastian goes with his description of a scent and the way he described this one’s make me want to get a sample and see if this is a winner but im sure the notes that are in this one will be right up my alley.

  • when sebastian said other designers need to learn a lesson from this fragrance, i knew i have to get my hands on it.
    thanks USA

  • The gods have to smile on me this time. I need this. This will be perfect for a first time niche bottle owner

  • Sebastian’s enthusiasm for this new scent has gotten me excited so I’d love to win a bottle!

  • Being of limited resources, but of unlimited enthusiasm for the art that is the lifestyle of pursuing the “perfect” signature scent, a scent that not everyone can instantly recognize but…. instantly recognizes as me. Sebastian sent me here and I am glad he did. What a site this is! Thanks to all that make it happen.

  • Never tried any of the Parfums de Marley fragrances. They all sound great, especially Layton. Would love to have a smell. WA, USA.

  • I tried Layton before and I liked it. I also like Byerley and Habdan from the house. Habdan has a taste of apple note as well. US, TX

  • Great review of a great house!!! Everyone would love to have a bottle from this house. I just watched another reviewer do a review of a fragrance from this house. Shout to J Copeland a new reviewer. Parfum de Marley is a great house!!! Good luck hope to win!!!

  • Heard great reviews about the house but I have not had the chance to experience their offering.

    Cheers,

    Bryan.

  • I actually just started exploring this house. I sampled Herod at nordstrom about a month ago, grabbed a bottle the following day. One of my favorite tobacco scents now. Layton must be a recent release. It would be nice to have this one, If I don’t win, I’m gonna sample it anyway.

  • Wonderful review from sebastian i tried a layton sample and i love it and definitely would love to have a bottle of layton on my collection thank you very much for the give away.

  • I’d love to finally get into the Parfums De Marly house. I’ve never had the experience and this seems like a great introduction.

  • stayfreshproductions says:

This is the fragrance from Parfums de Marly that I’ve been dying to get my nose on, and eventually review myself for my channel. I truly enjoyed Sebastian’s take on it!

  • Eric Dunthorne says:

What I enjoy about Sebastian’s YouTube video is his descriptions. I always feel like I have a good idea of how the fragrance smells. I also feel that I can trust what he says he just seems really genuine. I’d really love to win I’ve never tried anything from Parfums De Marley. Thanks for the giveaway it’s really appreciated.

  • Sebastian’s description of Layton makes me think that this would be an ideal signature fragrance, which is what I have been looking for. Thanks for the opportunity to own it.

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

Another winner frag from PdM. Love Herod and this one is not that far. Sebastians review is spot on! Count me in in the giveaway! San Diego

  • Aaron.bunton says:

I really like how Sebastian is very detailed and very honest. The only cologne that have smelled from this house is Oajan. I live in Virginia.

  • Nahanni Riversong says:

Wow what’s not to love?? Herod is a new favorite of mine as well I have to have a signature scent because of the horses!

  • Drew Martinez says:

I would love to try this because of the chance to add another fragrance that I have sampled and enjoyed. Very good longevity on my skin and good projection as well.

  • I wpuld love to town this! If i win i would be very gratefull ive been down on my luck and giveaways is my ownly access to newer fragrances

  • I absolutely love this house. I own Pegasus and Herod I’m trying to get Godolphin and I would love to win Layton!!!

  • I currently own Pegasus and it’s absolutely amazing. I’d love to have a little Layton in my life. Sebastian is awesome for providing these opportunities and cafleurebon is just as awesome for these giveaways. Thank you both.

  • Never owned any marly hopefully this will be the first. I have smelt some samples and they are great.

  • Sebastian really summarized this fragrance well. It sounds really great. He recommends it for a workplace scent, which is a part of my fragrance wardrobe that’s lacking at the moment. I would love to be able to snag a bottle of Layton and add it to my collection!

Thank you to Sebastian and Cafleurebon for giving everyone an opportunity to score a bottle!

    I live in GA

  • I really enjoy Sebastian’s reviewing style; laid back and down-to-earth. Coincidentally, I had the chance this past weekend to sample many from the Parfums de Marly line at a show at Nordstrom’s. I fell in love with Safanad but, alas, I will have to rely on the generosity of Santa if I want to own it any time soon! I am in the US and, as always, thank you for the chance.

  • I would love to win this fragrance because I love herod and think it would be great to have in my small collection.

  • I love Sebastian’s calm, detailed, and enthusiastic reviews! I’ve only ever tried Herod from this house and would love to get my nose on another one. This one sounds amazing! I love citruses and want to smell a high quality niche take on them. Thanks for the opportunity! From VA

  • concertslover says:

Sebastian always brings an interesting perspective to all of his video reviews. I appreciate his fine sense to pick out nuances that many of us might miss but others might pick up from us. This is a new frag line for me but checking out some of the notes in it, it appears to be pretty complex floral/fruit mix. Would really love to try this one.
    USA

  • I have a friend who loves Parfums de Marly. I know he has Oajan and it is gorgeous. I’m thinking the “unusual ingredient” in Layton is green apple. To paraphrase Sebastian Jara – a fresh, juicy, energetic, wake-up blast. Sounds great. I would love it. USA

  • Sebastian is a great guy and I respect his judgment. I’d love to have a chance of winning this beautiful fragrance. It’d sit nicely with Herod

  • Oscar Sanchez says:

Just saw Sebastian’s review of Layton…I have Pegasus and a small sample of Herod and I love them both. Layton seems like it would be a fantastic addition…thank you.

  • The apple note sounds interesting. And if sebastion loves it than i bet its a gem of a fragrance.

  • This is an interesting offering from the house. Their fragrances have that niche quality and different vibe to them but this one seems to be more easy to like and generic, but in a good way. Would love to own this fragrance. Herod is my favorite tobacco scent and this would be another favorite. Washington State.

  • I love Sebastian’s description of this fragrance. The top notes of green apple, lavender, and bergamot sound very intriguing!

  • Cesar Caballero says:

Sebastian entirely nailed it , this really has the most amazing opening ever and yes i do might say this should be an example of what other designer houses should follow , it is very unique and it is a whole complete scent there is really nothing missing from it all the notes are on point and the sample that i got is amazing i wish i had more, thanks you both Sebastian and CafleureBon for the chance to win this amazing scent there is really no words for this one here.

  • I have learned Layton is quite a different perfume from usual Parfums de Marly offerings. It is fresh and energetic with notes like green apple and bergamot and is also energizing to use in the morning, Layton is also appropriate for those who want a nice but safe office scent. My favorite from Parfums de Marly is Herod. I am in the US.

  • I love Marley! I fell for them since testing Godolphin. Sebastian’s enthusiasm is really making me want to win this bottle!

  • I always want these fragrances that are video reviewed. Winning this would be a great way to end the year. Haven’t smelled anything from the house as of yet. USA 🙂

  • Good job Sebastian, i like this house,
Pegasos, Godolphin and others, but this one never tried.
I would love to try tgis one with the apple note.
    USA, TX.

  • I regret that I am not familiar with Parfums de Marley, the concept is elegant but relatable which is rare. Sebastion’s review is full of his trademark enthusiasm and I like his description of the opening and how the green apple adds a crispness. He kept using the words burst of energy which sounds refreshing and wonderful here in the January we’re experiencing in Dec. Thanks, CaFleurebon, Parfums de Marley and Sebastion for the review and very generous opportunity.

  • Sebastian seems so enthusiastic about this fragrance. I do not have any Parfums de Marly in my collection, but I did have an opportunity to sniff some of their fragrances and they were beautiful. Thanks so much for the draw. I lice in the USA.

  • I really like how this fragrance is a great combination of woody and floral notes and how it’s so well mixed. Thanks for the contest!

  • This sounds right up my alley, I love Galloway for spring and summer, this sounds like it will fill in great for fall and winter..

  • Yes, Sebastian is great as always! I’ve tried a few of Parfums de Marley at Nordstoms Department Store a few times and have like their offerings! THANK YOU – Sebastian and CaFleurebon for this Great Giveaway! Count me in!

  • Tyrone Spencer says:

From Roseville. Michigan. Looking for the great smelling fragrance for Christmas as my gift! Continue to do a good work on fragrances.

  • sounds amazing !!! , the reason i would love to win is because i have very limited experience with niche scents like Parfums de Marly , i would love to have this one in my collection which is mostly designer and vintage designer best regards Matt C Chicago, IL

  • Sebastian’s review was so insightful-I like how he spoke to the energy burst Layton gives in the morning! I would love to try Layton because Parfums De Marly is exquisite!

  • I smelled Layton at my local Nordstrom. I was thinking it is a freshER scent than Herod and Oajan I own. It is still a rich smell and opulent fragrance that I love. I sadly cannot justify the cost for a bottle of this.

  • Sebastine described the notes and the way it performs excellently. I would love to own a bottle of this!

  • Like always what I like about Sebastian’s review is the format. Not too long but without leaving out everything that he gets from the scent, the important parts. I like the quality in PDM’s but I have yet to find one that truly wows me to be honest. And I want to try Layton cause the note breakdown is really promising based on my taste. Thus far my favorite one is Oajan. Thanks 😉

  • Thanks for the great review Sebastian. I smelled this in passing and I agree with your assessment that this is like a high end designer fragrance. I like a lot from this brand, hoping to make this one my third from the house. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Frank Santana says:

I would love to win this for a Christmas present this stuff is awesome. I smelled this in Nordstrom and I was blown away.

  • Jorge Franco says:

After watching Sebastia’s review i want to try this fragrance it sounds really amazing. I also know the house own 2 other frances from Parfums de Marly and I know the quality of their juices.. I wish i could win this bottle..
    Cheers

  • Always love Sebastian’s laid back, non-pretentious review style. Unfortunately I’ve never had the chance to sample any Parfums de Marly fragrances but something tells me that I’d love them so I would love to get my hands on a bottle of Layton

  • dylonperson@yahoo.com says:

He is spot on when he says it is an uplifting scent. It’s just one of those that makes you happy. Out of PFM, Layton is the best smelling one and I would love to own a bottle. I have a decant of Herod which is my second favorite behind Layton.

  • Rafael Salazar says:

What I love to find in a fragrance is classiness paired with energetic fruitiness and that was exactly how Sebastian described Layton! Let’s hope i could try this fragrance and see if i finally find what i’ve been looking for! *crosses fingers*

  • I’m curious about the opening and the green apple note. Sebastian’s reviews always intrigue me. I like Herod from this line.
    I live in Massachusetts.

  • Like many who already posted the one Marly I tried was Herod and it’s very well done. I enjoyed hearing the reviewers take how the notes in this fragrance were perceived by him. U.S.

  • I’ve yet to try anything from this brand, but I’d be super interested in checking this out. Sebastian’s review made me really excited to try this, so I’d love a shot.

  • If Sebastian is excited or enthusiastic about a fragrance in a review its a safe bet youll want to try that fragrance out. I love the notes described in this fragrance. Glad to see him review one from this house. Ive tried a couple from this house and so far Id have to say Oajan or possibly Pegasus would be my fave. Would really love to win this one. Thanks for opportunity. 🙂
    Im in the USA

  • I want to win because I’ve smelled pegasus which I love, love love…and I really like Herod but I want something not so floral and more fresh and comforting. Thank you for this awesome contest!!

  • I want to win a full bottle of Layton because I sampled this from the NYC boutique a few weeks ago and fell in love with it at first sniff. It great work scent as Sebastian mentioned. The fragrance that it remind me of was CH Men Prive by Carolina Herrera. I’m excited about the giveaway!

  • Habdan is my favorite at the moment. My favorite part of Sebastian’s review is his description of the fragrance. Particularly the fruity notes. Thank you so much for this draw.

  • Michael McDonald says:

Loved how he compared Layton to an energy shot. I haven’t gotten the chance to even smell any of the fragrances yet because they don’t sell them at stores in Ohio, so if I won it’d be revolutionary haha

  • serge souprayen says:

“If you need a boost in the morning and you don’t have time for coffee in the morning, this is when you put this fragrance on and it will wake you up”

When Sebastian mentioned that, i was completely fired up and said to myself that i have to get my hands on Layton. This will help me on those days when there is little to no time to drink coffee.

I’m not addicted to coffee, we’re just in a committed relationship, god really created coffee on the eight day.

spraying layton will wake me up and feel energized like coffee mixed with redbull.

I do have a bottle of Pegasus and so love that fragrance, to me is to die for but that’s just me .

Can’t wait to see Layton next to my bottle of Pegasus.

PS: I am located In Doral Florida

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Thanks for the article & as always nice review again by Jara. Happy to hear that it boosts the energy inside. It looks like 4 seasons perfume. I’m curious about the bombastic opening and the green apple pleasant smell, the middle floral notes & the woody notes of sandalwood at the end is my favorite.
Thanks to The Fragrance Group the US Distributor of Parfums de Marly for the generosity & Cafleurebon to participate in the draw by letting me my relative US based address in New York.

  • I just love Parfums de Marly. They never disappoint me. I have Herod and Handan and I absolutely love them both. I’m yet to try out Layton but Sebastian had me at (boost in the morning) I got really excited about it. He has such a great taste and I got introduced to a few amazing fragrances by him and I’m sure I will love this one so I either win this or I will blind buy this haha.

  • I haven’t tried any fragrances from this house, but I’m actually entering on behalf of my husband. I’ve really been hoping to find a scent that will appeal to him and perhaps get him interested in some of the fragrances I already have as well – from Sebastian’s description, it sounds like this could be the one! I’m in the US. Thanks for another great review!

  • misty_father says:

This house has been so talked about and I haven’t put my nose in neither one of theirs… This looks liek a quality versatile frag according to Sebastian, very curious about it indeed.

    Europe here. Good luck everyone!

  • SUDIPTA DUTTA says:

I was looking for the best way to start trying this perfume house and Layton sounds perfect.

  • I own Oajan and absolutely adore it. I would love to check this out/own it as I think PdM has some amazing fragrances.

  • Own and love both Oajan and Herod.I’m a long time subsciber to Sebastian-sinse his old chanel Man Loves Cologne.
What i love about Sebastian and his reviews? His honest opinion all the time-if hi love sertain fragrance he’ll praise it , but if he don’t like it he’ll bash it.
    Hope i’ll win.
    Virginia USA

  • I own Herod and would love to have this newest release (Layton). I’ve love Sebastian’s videos since Man loves cologne and Will continue to watch his videos. Since he compared Layton to Herod, it really intrigued me. Thank you and God bless

  • Jose Sanchez says:

I own 2 of the parfum de marly oajan, and herod. Im dying to try this layton. Im a big fan of parfum de marley.

  • Bryan Christopher says:

I’m mostly confined to the mainstream perfumes as they are easily available here in my country (Philippines). So I always want to get a chance to go to the off beaten path in perfumery. Not for the hipster “loved that before everyone else stuff” but for that experience of finding a keeper, loving it and later on it becomes one of your most used perfumes.

  • I would love to win this fragrance. Smelled it a few days back and i m still smelling the paper strip 🙂 Lasts a long time

  • Joseph Castro says:

I would love to own a fresh bottle of Leyton, I first purchased Herod, then Oajan, and just purchased Habdan. Loving this house since I discovered it during christmas shopping. Would be a nice treat to win a bottle for the summer. Thanks

  • Nelson Murilo says:

I do love pegasus, but tthis is a only perfume I’ve smelled from this house.
    Layton sounds really really great.
    Another great review, thanks Sebastian.

  • yechielfeifer says:

Another great review by Sebastian, I recently purchased harod and I would love to get my nose on this new release green apple is always a note that I enjoy as well ,when it’s done right, and blended with other Great notes…. keep the reviews coming so informative and I love your laid-back style
