Our favorite Winter fragrances

January is blowing its icy breath down our scarf wrapped necks.  After a relatively mild start in 2014, Winter announced itself in 2015.  When we are chilled to the bones. we turn to our favorite cold weather fragrances to warm body and soul.

Parfumerie Generale- L'Ombre Fauve: This 2007 Private Collection creation from perfumer Pierre Guillaume was my first real foray into the realms of animalic musks and has worked its way to the top of my list of winter scents. It's a purring feline of a fragrance, softly sexy and perfect for wearing close to the skin under layers of warm clothing. L'Ombre Fauve is a resinous, ambered scent with a tawny palette of tertiary colours. There isn't a hint of plant life in this fragrance; it's all about lithe movement and silky furs. The cooler temperatures really bring out the beauty in its soft edges.

Hermès- Elixir des Merveilles: I knew there was a Jean-Claude Ellena creation out there for me! Although this fragrance was launched in 2006, I have only recently discovered it and have fallen deeply in love. Elixir is a mesmerising combination of woods, resins and citrus with an astonishing caramel facet that appeals greatly to this gourmand lover's sweet tooth. Orange is one of my favourite notes in fragrance and there is something delightfully festive in the play between this, the cedar and incense. It works perfectly for this time of year –Susie Baird, Contributor

Winter weather in Wyoming can be brutal, both in it's pristine snow covered beauty and in it's capacity for blizzard like conditions and constant wind. The beauty part, thanks to the Black Hills, usually wins out.

My friend, scent artist Daniel Krasofski and I were searching for a perfume similar to the discontinued ZaZen by Aveda, when Yvettra Grantham from ScentBar suggested La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy byJaques Flori. A warming incense scent comprised of materials traditionally used in sacred ceremonies. A burning ember to keep the fire going during the cold months. Notes: incense, cypress, frankincense and rockrose, musk and myrrh.

Because winter often leaves me with a touch of SAD, and a longing for the scents of summer, I  reach for Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St. Clements by Heeley.  when I feel  I need a lift. A beautiful combination of oranges and lemons with bergamot and orange blossom to boot. The dry down is a lovely Earl Grey tea note which grounds the zealous citrus reminder of summer to come. Notes: orange, lemon, bergamot, mandarin, neroli, petitgrain, Earl Grey tea, ylang ylang and vetiver.  Einsof, Natural Perfume  Editor and West Coast Contributor

Winter is the best season for diversity in the scents you choose.  You can go with the warm and complex, something with a straight-up holiday feel, or something sweet to tide you over until the warm sun returns.  I've chosen three that do all of these and well.

PK Perfumes- Gold Leather:  I discovered Paul Kiler's line after experiencing the work he did with another favorite indie house, Zoologist.  Gold Leather is an endlessly comforting, elegant and complex scent built from orange citrus, gardenia and jasmine, ylang ylang, tuberose, sage and tobacco, musks and civet.  It wears like the way sunlight feels. What is most intriguing about Paul Kiler's bold, unique and angular perfumes is that they're also so approachable and warm.  An absolute joy to wear and discover.

Dasein Winter:  This is a good one for people who like the “Christmas Tree” feel in their winter perfumes around the holiday season and was composed by indie artisan perfumer Sam Rader.  Loaded up with blue spruce, forest pine, cardamom and lavender, Winter keeps you warm while still providing the bracing hit of being outdoors during the chilly months. Available at TwistedLily.com

I Profumi di FirenzeVanlglia e Fichi:  This fig-based scent is a wonderful fragrance to fight off the blue, icy bone-rattle of wintertime.  It’s very rich, sweet and cozy – I Profumi di Firenze makes perfumes feel the same way that cashmere makes a good sweater feel – soft and silky. If you’re needing a gourmand fragrance with an exotic edge to pull you through the ice and snow, this is a great one. Available at Lady Pickwicks owned by the charming Rita Fabbricatore, 64 State Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801, (603) 427-8671   – Steve Johnson, Sr Contributor

D.S. & Durga’s Siberian Snow composed by one of my favourite perfumers David Seth Moltz,  is one of the most elusive and haunting fragrances in their collection. A memory-scent, spiked with wintergreen for clarity and a union of gentle animalics, resins and balms. Everything is soft with camphor, minted air and powder like footsteps in brilliant winter snowfall surrounding a vast country house where women once danced in silvered silks and fur. Now the windows are blind, furniture is draped in white and the pianos are silent. Some days when I wear it, I feel lost, like a wraith in that house of ice and snow, the notes rising off me like disturbed motes of gathered dust.

Patchouli Patch by L’Artisan Parfumeur is papal patchouli, ragingly regal; a rush of sexy velvet biker chic. Persuasive and elegant scent making that moves with your wrapped up, enclosed heat, rising and falling. A bite of caraway over sheer osmanthus, iris and drifting musk make this Duchaufour take on a scented classic so much more than just woody smoke and drift.  I have been through bottles and bottles of the stuff. There are days when I crave it like a drug, it smells that good. It is the perfect winter scent, skin adores it and fibres of scarves and cashmere and tweed greedily consume it. –The Silver Fox, Senior Editor

Baume Du Doge by Eau d’Italie is one of my go-to winter perfumes. Created by the masterly hand of Betrand Duchaufour in 2008, the year I first met both Bertrand and Sebastian Alverez Murena in NYC, so this perfume fills me with warm and wonderful memories.  I imagine a Medici court, swirling with intrigue and heavenly aromas of frankincense and myrrh. Wine spiced with orange, clove and cardamom. A procession of envoys moves triumphantly through the glittering halls, paying regal homage to the regent with cedar and sandalwood kists overflowing with silks, velvets, vanilla pods, clove and precious saffron like filaments of gold. –Michelyn Camen, Editor in Chief

I had a sample of La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy in my cart to order last week but removed it after thinking of how bad Epona was. I reckon I was wrong to do that. Blast, now I really want it. I do not like cold weather at all which is why I live in the south. Ya’ll can have it thankyouverymuch. La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy, I absolutely much try it now.

  • While I dislike the bitter cold, there is really nothing like cuddling under a big soft blanket, better yet, with a wonderful warming scent. I have not yet tried any of the scents, but I am particularly intrigued by Baume du Doge, Gold Leather, La Lithurgie des Heures. I would love to win any of these, I live in the USA

  • I love the winter when it’s cold enough to be dry and the snow is nice and powdery (as long as there’s no wind)! I love the crisp days and the beauty of the snow. It also smells good and where I live there’s woodstove smoke in the air! My favorite from your list is La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy (but I haven’t tried them all)!

Having said that, I’d be more than delighted to have the good fortune to win a full bottle of La Liturgie des Heures, but I’d also love Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge (another one I’ve sampled and liked quite a bit).

In the US still, in the NE, where it’s bitter cold tonight! Thanks for the fabulous draw!!

  • Don’t feel too great about it today here in Cleveland. Several inches of new snow today and plunging temps tomorrow. The worse part is that we can often go weeks at a time without seeing the sun this time of year. Or, at least, it seems like that! I love the descriptions of Gold Leather and the Baume du Doge and would love to try these. I actually haven’t had the pleasure of smelling any of these. As I said, I’m in the U.S. Thank you.

  • Jordan Macdonald says:

I love winter although I’m not a fan of all this Oregon rain, but then again that’s Oregon. It rains 70% out of the year or more. I’m pretty sure the state flower is mildew. Anyway, I love winter due to the cold and because I’m able to wear my heavier fragrances like A*Men and Fahrenheit . I’ve never smelt any of the fragrances mentioned above, that’s including the 9 and 5 toward the end except for Elixir De Merveilles. I love Elixir so much! I really enjoyed Eau Des Merveilles but for some odd reason one day I picked out the violet and it became too much for me. Elixir De Merveilles for me was all about the caramel, patchouli, and that smell of ambergris. It’s intoxicating! I don’t have a bottle, just a decant but my goodness is it strong! Perfect for winter. La Liturgie des Heures looks really up my alley as I love churchy incense. Of course I’m partial to Patchouli Patch because I’m a huge fan of patchouli even though I’ve never tried it. Baume du Doge looks like an interesting twist on traditional incense with the watercress, saffron, and cinnamon. I’m sorry but Gold Leather had me at leather. I love how the notes sound! Sounds like a fantastic scent! I love the mixture of white florals and leather. Finally Siberian Snow is something that again sounds very interesting and challenging that I’d love to get my hands on. Thanks for doing the giveaway, I know you don’t have to do it. I live in the USA

  • I hate being cold, but I do love snowboarding and the beauty of winter, so I can’t complain! My favorite from your list (well, the only one I’ve tried) is Dasein’s winter – which presented on my skin very very differently than I would have guessed based on the notes. The drydown is lovely. I’d love to try Gold Leather the most, but also Baume du Doge! Thanks for the draw, I’m in the US.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

I love winter until mid-February, and then it’s time for it to be over. Though I do love lots of snow! There are many from your list that I love or would love to try! L’Ombre Fauve is going on my list… I love PG, but haven’t tried that one yet. Siberian Snow and Gold Leather as well!
From the giveaway I would love La Liturgie des Heures, Gold Leather or Siberian Snow. Thank you for the wonderful draw! I am in the US… stay warm all!

  • I don’t mind winter but hate wintry mix weather, skeet and rain. I need a little pick me up in the cold so I gravitate to fragrances with citrus. I am a fan of Duchaufour and Heeley but since I can only get Baume du Doge that is my pick

  • Winter makes me feel rather torn. Sometimes it can be so beautiful with the pearly grey skies and snow, but it also feels very isolating. Perfume is particularly helpeful these days to get my energy going. I would love to win Siberian Snow, and I am in the US. Thank you!

  • Living in California, I have really missed a proper winter. I miss the crisp quality of the air that makes everything crystalline, and there is nothing more enchanting than the low winter sun in northern Europe–I just love how it flattens everything out. Needless to say that when I get a chance to go somewhere where it’s actually cold, I jump at the chance.

Of the top ten you’ve listed, I’ve only tried Elixir des Merveilles as I’m incapable of refusing Mr. Ellena. As for the giveaway list, I’d love to try them all, but La Liturgie des Heures strikes me as the one that would most give me a feeling of the austere winter I so crave but don’t have. Similarly, Baume Du Doge by Eau d’Italie sounds delightful, as does Gold Leather.

I’m in the US and would love it if I were chosen to win La Liturgie des Heures, Baume Du Doge by Eau d’Italie or Gold Leather. [US based]

  • I love the first beautiful snowflakes that land on the sleeves of your jacket…once it turns to sleet and slush I am ready to head anywhere with Sun and a little warmth. It is nice and cozy inside though, and I am enjoying Parfum Sacre in this weather! I agree that Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St. Clemens is a great pick me up.
I would love to try Baume du Doge, and Gold Leather. I am in the US and thanks for the draw!

  • I love Winter because the countryside looks so beautiful in fresh fallen snow, magical. I hate Winter only because I have to drive on terrible roads (that’s really the only reason) I love Winter as I could not imagine myself living in a place where I would never see snow and where Winter does not really seem like Winter. My favorite would be Hermes Elixir des Merveilles only because its one I own and love to wear. My choices would be Siberian Snow or Baume du Doge. I am in the US 🙂

  • Chicago is blanketed in snow right now, so this post was timely! I don’t mind the cold and snow, really. You can always put on another sweater. I complain when it is too hot in the summer, so I think it is only fair for me to hold my tongue in winter!

I own Elixir des Merveilles, and love it, but I’ve been wearing a lot of incensey fragrances lately.

I had not yet heard of La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy, but it sounds like it might be right up my alley. Eau d’Italie’s Baume du Doge has been on my wish list for such a long time now — wouldn’t it be amazing if now were that time?

I’d love to participate in the draw for Baume du Doge, and for La Liturgie des Heures. Thanks so much for the opportunity!

    I am in the US.

  • what a topic! I love cuddly warm orientals touched with pine or fir accord. I would definitely choose Patchouli Patch, my immediate pick! I am in EU, Slovakia and thank you very much!

  • Of all times to ask me how I feel about winter… At the moment I’m not especially fond of it. Just getting over a crud that to many are passing around again and again 😛 Sigh. I actually do love the change as here in S. Utah we don’t usually get to extreme. Would love Patchouli Patch or Baume du Doge. I am in the US.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

I have love-hate relationship with winter…I lvoe the scenery in winter more than the summer but as someone who usually likes to walk to the store rather than use public transportation, winter makes me lazy..but on the fragrance side, I am a bigger fan of winter fragrances than summer fragrances because the summer fragrances now have a tougher job to impress due to lot of materials being restricted now..among the top 10 fragrances mentioned above, Hermes Elixir de Merveilles is my favorite but there are many I have not smelled yet.

In the draw, my choices are:

    1. Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge
    2. D.S. & Durga’s Siberian Snow (really love their creation Bis for Rodin brand)
    3. Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures

I am in the US. thanks for the lovely draw.

  • I like winter because it makes me appreciate non-winter even more. That and I like to have an excuse for wearing coats and jackets.

Of the fragrances discussed I’d love to win either La Liturgie des Heures (which I’ve sampled) or Siberian Snow (which I’ve been wanting to sample for a while) – in that order.

Thanks for the draw. I am in the US.

  • I’m not a big fan of the cold in general although the holiday celebrations certainly make winter more bearable and even something to look forward to. Winter is also a nice season to bring out my heavy oriental perfumes, which feel so right in the cold, crisp air.

My favorite from the top ten list is Elixir de Merveilles. I love the citrus and salty amber combination.

If I win, I’d love to try Baume du Doge, La Liturge des Heures or Gold Leather.

Thanks for the draw. I’m in Canada

  • Marcopietro says:

I love every season of the year for several reasons.
In the winter I love the nights with starry sky and cold air, the snow, frozen cobwebs with designs similar to embroideries and the sound of the ice under the shoes.
Among your top ten winter fragrances my favorite is La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy
In the draw my choices are:
Baume du Doge – Eau d’Italie
La Liturgie des Heures – Jovoy
    I’m in EU.
    Thanks!

  • i actually feel better in cold temperatures in winter than in summer heat waves :-). i also love skiing so that’s another reason of course.

like Einsof, i quite often reach reach for citrus-themed scents but my absolute favourite from your list is Elixir des Merveilles.

if i win, i’d love to try:
    1. La Liturgie des Heures
    2. Patchouli Patch
    3. Baume de Doge.

i’m in the EU. thanks for the draw!

  • Winter is not my favourite season: dry skin, runny nose, chapped lips are not things to look forward to. But it is always the best time to layer clothing and bring back warm fragrances for example L’Ombre Fauve because Pierre Gillaume can do no wrong.
I would love to win La Liturgie des heures by Jovoy or Eau D’Italie ‘s Baume de Dode.
I live in France. Thank you for this draw.

  • I live in the midwest where we often have brutal winters like the one we’re having right now. I don’t mind, knowing that we get to experience the best of ALL seasons and the gifts of each one. Cold weather, wrapped in flannel by the fireplace, watching the snow fall on our woods behind the house….these are what I love about winter and often the best time to try my favorite perfume family; incense and orientals. Being a fan of patchouli and incense fan makes me long to try Les Liturgie des heures and Patchouli Patch! I’ve read SO much about them so was thrilled to see both in a contest! I’m sure I would love all of those reviewed here, but those two would be my top favorites. Thank you very much for the chance, as I’ve not experienced any of these. Thank you!!, from Indiana!

  • I think winter offers some of the most beautiful scenery; as the snow turns a barren tree into a masterpiece to behold. I also remember standing alone outside in a blizzard, thinking that winter can bring so much beauty, yet the potential of so much danger, and feeling powerless and humble in it’s icy assault.
I would love to win Patchouli Patch, Siberian Snow, or Baume du Doge. I live in the US. Thanks!

  • When I was a child, I loved the winter, the snow, playing inside the garden in the snow, but nowadays not really. I just wait the end of the winter. But I think that the winters scents are fine. Unfortunately I had never tried these perfumes yet, but I would try at least one of them.
    My winning choices:
    1. Patchouli Patch
    2. Baume du Doge
    3. La Liturgie des Heures
    I live in Europe.

  • I love winter, especially when it snows, even when I have to crawl out of bed into the bleak morning. I haven’t tried any of the ten scents in this post, but by the description I know I’d love Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St. Clement’s. Of the five offered, I’m sure I’d love La Liturgie des Heures, which I also hope to win. In the EU. Thank you for the draw.

  • Winter seems to have skipped my town, no snow, no icicles, all be it there has been some very cold, days. I really enjoy winters stark contrast to the very hot unbearable summers we get, 100 degree temps and 20mph winds, no thanks. The longer January gets I fear this may be the year winter forgot us, though it sounds winter remembered others all to well and I feel for those who are bearing the harsher burdens of winter. My favorite scent from your list is Elixer des Merveilles and L’Ombre Fauve. I would love to try DS and Durga’s Siberian Snow and Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures. I am in the U.S.

  • I love cold weather, always have. I have not tried anything on your list. So if I win, I’d choose 1. Baume de Doge, 2. La Liturgie des Heures. USA

  • I would love Patchouli Patch or Siberian Snow. And Winter, my feelings about Winter…. It’s cold and dark but worth the experience and pleasant in retrospect. It’s also very nice to be inside next to a fire with a blanket in the Winter. Though I’d still probably rather be outside when it is nice out. Still, lots of happy winter memories. I’m in the US.

  • I live in the South, which means that winter is occasionally slightly inconvenient but mostly a nice change from the rest of the hot year. I would hate to live anyplace with a real winter but I do love the idea of snow. I haven’t tried ANY of the winter favorites but several have been on my list. Gold Leather has been one I’ve wanted to sample for a while now as well as Siberian Snow. Either would be wonderful to win although I would happily take any except Patchouli Patch, which I’ve sampled and isn’t me. I’m in the U.S. thank you!

  • Personally I like winter. I enjoy the Christmas time, my birthday and the snow. From the ten mentioned I only know one, Elixir des Merveilles and I really liked it until I smelled Ambre des Merveilles which is currently my most favourite winter scent. As for the ones I’d like to win: Liturgie des Heures, Patchouli Patch, and Baume du Doge. I am in the EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • You mentioned Elixir des Merveilles, which I adore, even though I am more partial to natural perfumes but something about a really top notch quality perfume is still irresistible to me.
I Love Winter and tend to like either warmth in my fragrances at this time of year or I like to be reminded of Christmas trees and forests of snow but, PK Perfumes, Gold Leather sounds divine to me. I would love to try it.

  • I loathe winter even though my dog loves it. However, being able to trot out some of my favourite perfumes (Le Labo Poivre 23, Herve Domar Diamant Noir, Tauer Orris, SL Bois de Violette and Fendi Asja, amongst them) does make the season rather more bearable. Of the perfumes listed that I have tried, my favourite would be Oranges and Lemons by Heeley (and the name makes me smile). These all sound right up my street with the exception of the Patchouli (not a note I especially like when dominant) I have been wanting to try the Jovoy for a while now, and would love to win, in order of preference:

    1. La Liturgies des Heures
    2. Baume du Doge
    3. PK Gold Leather
    4. DS Durga Siberian Snow

  • I love winter nights, in front of a cozy fire. But I miss the ability to get outside in comfort and get things done around my house. My favorite on your list is Partumerie Generale L’Ombre Fauve. I love being able to wear all my big, bad sillage perfumes in winter, when the cold air cuts some of their omph. On you list I would like to win any, but especially PK Gold Leather, Baume de Doge and Siberian Snow. Thank you for the draw. I live in the US.

  • I like winter and especially the sunny cold days where the sun shines brighter than ever. I don’t like windy rainy days only sunny cold ones. However it gives me the chance to wear heavier somewhat more oriental perfumes from my collection.
In case I am one of the fortunate of this lovely draw I would love to experience one of the following three:
    La Liturgie des Heures, Jovoy-Paris
    L’Artisan Parfumeur aPatchouli Patch
    Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge
    I am in EU.

  • I love winter, especially that little bit of December right before Christmas. I was thinking just a few days ago about how much I like Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St. Clements, and then lo and behold, there it was on your list. My choice would be either Gold Leather or Siberian Snow. I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • I live in Florida. It’s too hot to wear long sleeves here today. I have to say, we do get chilly weather — it snowed in Jacksonville last week. I love the idea of mixing citrus with woodsy, wintry scents, so Gold Leather, and Baum du Doge sound wonderful!

  • The only one I know from the list is L’Ombre Fauve. And altough I do not like amber so much, I must confess that this one is a really special fragrance. Like a fur, a second-skin.
I like winter, but only when it snows. After that, after 2 or 3 days all I see is ice which is dangerous.
I live in Europe and my picks are: La Liturgie des Heures, Patchouli Patch and Baume du Doge.

    Thanks!

  • I really dislike the cold winter months. I am still unsure about why I live in the Northeast and not someplace like… Bali.

I did love a sample of Winter by Dasein Fragrance I got at Twisted Lily. It was evocative of all of the good things about winter (fresh, new snow in the woods) without actually making me cold.

  • I love winter because of the weather. The snow is amazing and it is just great to watch the snow flakes fall.
    My favorite is Gold Leather.
I would love to try: Baume du Doge, Siberian Snow or La Liturgie des Heures. Thank you for the draw!
    In the US.

  • I like living where there are four seasons, and winter is part of that. I have worn Elixir des Merveilles from your list. It’s very nice and works well for me in summer also. Love to win one of these: 1- Siberian Snow, 2- Baume du Doge, 3- Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures, 4 -L’Artisan Parfumeur aPatchouli Patch. 🙂 US

  • I love the smell of winter. The air gets a particular smell right before it snows. Sadly, this is more a scent memory than a yearly scent. It doesn’t snow much in Texas. However, I do recall the loveliest winters in Pennsylvania. I would love to win Baume du Doge, Patchouli Patch, or Siberian Snow. Thanks for the draw. I live in the US.

  • I love winter because I can wear all my favourite parfums which are more apropiate for this season. I love incence fragances, leather, civet, dark spices….. from all the parfumes named in your review I just know three or four of them and La Liturgie des Heures is my favourite, I love the pure incence in it whith the touch of myrrh. Another perfume I like a lot in cold and foggy day is Musc Ravageur even it isn’t in your list, but it is one of the reasons I love winter is because this one I only wear it on those days. If I win, my choices go for:
-La liturgie des heures (my favourite)
    -Patchouli Patch
    – Baume du Doge.

    I live in EU.

  • The very words “Wintry Mix” in your headline sent a chill down my spine. I do miss those beautiful, sunny, low 20s (F) days, with not too much wind, and a little snow crunching underfoot. Slush and bitter cold and icy streets, not so much. The only perfume on your list I have (or have even tried) is the Hermès Elixir, which is apparently much less sweet on me than it is on most people. To me it’s more bitter orange and unsweetened cocoa. Baume du Doge has been on my to-try list for a while now, and your description of the procession though a Medici court has moved it up. I’d love to win any of the perfumes offered, especially I think Baume du Doge and Gold Leather. I’m in the US (California).

  • Winter sharpens my senses. The thin sunlight, the frigid air, my breath appearing before me in little puffs… the world seems to stop and bow down before winter. You can’t change it, you must dress for it, you must prepare for it, and go with it instead of against it. In the cold of January, winter always wins. I even choose the fragrance I wear accordingly. These reviews make me want to try each and every one of these scents. I have tried Elixir des Merveilles and Gold Leather, and enjoy those two. Out of the five offered, my two personal “holy grails” are Jovoy La Liturgie des Heures and Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge. Thanks so much for the opportunity. I’m in the US (NJ).

  • I really dislike the cold but when it first snows and the ground is blanketed by sparkling white snowflakes it is really beautiful! I have not tried any of these scents yet but they all sound very interesting. I would love to win La Liturgie des Heures or Siberian snow! I am in the US.

  • I don’t mind winter but I do not like shoveling snow. I love big, comfy sweaters and blankets and all the warm fuzzy things that go with winter too. If I won I’d love to try Siberian Snow, Baume de Doge, or Patchouli Patch. I’m in the US.

  • I’m not too fond of winter. My ideal would be to live in the tropics and just take skiing vacations once in a while to places that have real winter weather. Of the top ten, I know and like Elixir des Merveilles and Patchouli Patch. For the draw, I’d love to win La Liturgie des Heures, Siberian Snow, or Baume du Doge. I’m in the US; thanks for the draw.

  • I love clean white snow and making snow angels with my kids. Hate the slush. Would love to win Liturgie des Heures, Siberian Snow and Patchouli Patch. I own Baume du Doge and think you really nailed it. USA

  • I love winter! You can stay warm a lot easier then trying to stay cool in the summer. My favorites from the Winter scents are Oranges and lemons say the bells of St. Clements by heely. I love orange and lemon scents, they’re uplifting! I love Patchouli Patch all year long. It’s one of my all time favs. I’d love to win the PK perfumes Gold Leather or the Patchouli Patch. Thanks USA

  • I actually don’t mind winter since I am at an age where summer heat is intolerable. My favorite from the Top Ten list is Parfumerie Generale- L’Ombre Fauve…so cuddly. I’d love to try Baume du Doge. (I have PK’s Gold Leather, and the description is right on.)
    I live in the U.S.

  • not a fan of winter 🙂 but then i can wear warm scents.
from the top ten i only know Elixir des Merveilles.

i’d love to try (EU): Baume de Doge, Patchouli Patch or La Liturgie des Heures

  • I love winter when the snow is about a meter deep, and I am snuggling by the fire place in a hut on a top of a mountain…
I don’t like the freezing cold, the icy streets, the grey faces…
Fragrances relieve the winter sorrow, I am convinced.
I only know Elixir des Merveilles and Patchouli Patch from the mentioned perfumes, and I couldn’t agree more with the association. I can add the spicy warm blend of SL’s Feminite du Bois or the cosy vanilla of Felanilla. However, I am much more drawn to ‘nice and clean’ scents in the winter, and here are some suggestions I used that way over the last years – Narciso Rodriguez Eau de Musk, Frederic Malle’s L’Eau d’Hiver (obvious, but not quite), Terre d’Hermes edt, L’Eau de L’Artisan, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta…

I am in Bulgaria (EU), so I would like to win any of these from the wintry mix:
    Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge
    L’Artisan Parfumeur Patchouli Patch
    Jovoy-Paris La Liturgie des Heures

    Thanks for the chance!

  • no siberian snow here in Romania, luckily… or just very rarely.
Therefore i had no chance to try your selection !
Baume de Doge, Patchouli Patch or La Liturgie des Heures

  • I LOVE winter. The cold makes me feel alert and ready to go. More importantly, I like winter fashion as well. Perfumes play such a vital role in how I feel throughout the day. I find that Elixir des Merveilles or Homage is perfect for crisp clear days. On darker days I find something like Rocabar or Polo is warming and masculine.

As for the draw, I’d happily win any of the fantastically curated choices! I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • I hate everything about winter. Everything. Winning would be great! I have not tried any of the scents mentioned. But I would like to! I want to enter the draWing for all the U.S. scents. That’s where I live. Thank you.

  • I love many things about winter–the quiet of an evening snowfall, the glitter and gleam of precious rays of sunlight through snow and ice–but I hate the cold and darkness. Love cashmere sweaters and being cuddled someplace warm near a window.

My usual favorites in winter are ambers and vanilla/spicy/warming scents. PG L’Ombre Fauve is especially cuddly and fuzzy and seems to add warmth to sweaters and scarves. It’s a top winter choice for me.

Of the top ten scents, I have not tried the other nine: Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St. Clements by Heeley sounds wonderfully cheerful! IPdF also sounds lovely and reminiscent of warm sunlit places.

    USA
I’d love to try any of these, especially:
    Baume du Doge
    Gold Leather

  • I love winter when it snows and I can enjoy the warmth of the burning woods in the fireplace along with a hot chocolate and the company of good friends.
I also love winter for another reason since it gives me the opportunity to wear somewhat heavier perfumes.
I would love to experience any of the following:
    Eau d’Italie Baume du Doge
    La Liturgie des Heures, Jovoy-Paris
    L’Artisan Parfumeur aPatchouli Patch
I am from EU. My favorite perfume from this review collection is Patchouli Patch by L’Artisan Parfumeur 🙂

  • Jennifer Witt says:

As a Minnesota native, snow runs through my veins, and I have to stop myself from scraping off my car, even in July. Ok, maybe that’s a bit much, but I can’t fathom a life without drifts and visible breath at least half the year. Of the wonderful scents listed above, I really only crave Patchouli Patch by L’Artisan Parfumeur. US. Thanks!

  • I really like winter, one reason is that i can wear heavier stuff that I can’t through the rest of the year.
I live in southern California, so that means that “winter” is just a couple days, and our winter temperatures are mid 60s and the occasional rain and some days were the temperature drops to 50s.
My favorite from the list of winter perfumes is Parfumerie Generale L’Ombre Fauve
If I win I’d love to get:
    La Liturgie des Heures
    Baume du Doge
    Gold Leather
And I live in the US
    thanks.

  • I love winter and I don’t care if it is cold! Summer is too hot for sure!
Please enter me for patchouli patch, gold leather or Siberianot snow
    In the USA

  • Donna Spiegel says:

I like winter. I find the cold weather exhilirating and also like the beautiful winter skies at night. Great sunsets during the winter. Love being indoors while it’s cold outside (I know it sounds funny) but when you are inside and you feel kind of chilled, but you are dressed in your warm winter clothes, it is very snuggly. You could be in your home, sipping some nice coffee or tea (or perhaps a nice red wine) or even by a chilly window with a breeze blowing against it. Just knowing how cold it is outside leaves you feeling much warmer inside. I have grown to embrace it over the years. I also like spring, summer & fall, so you could call me a gal of all the seasons!
    Favs:
    Hermès- Elixir des Merveilles
La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy
    PK Perfumes- Gold Leather
    Patchouli Patch
Baume Du Doge by Eau d’Italie
    To win:
Baume Du Doge by Eau d’Italie
La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy
    PK Perfumes- Gold Leather

I’m in the US – thank you for the great suggestions.

    Stay warm everyone 🙂

  • i love visiting the mountains & snow during the winter. there’s something about hiking/snowshoing/skiing through a blanket of white snow that makes me feel so alive – and it helps manage my frustration over the low grey ceiling we have in the pacific nw for the winters. i haven’t sniffed any of the fragrances you’ve listed as your winter favorites. i’d love to win siberian snow. thank you!

  • Andrea Goldsmith says:

Oooh these are great and pick me for Siberian Snow, I love dS &durga
I like winter when there is beautiful blanket of snow on the ground, but don’t like shoveling
My runners up are Baume du doge , Patchouli Patch and liturgies des heures
    USA

  • Ah, winter… since moving back to upstate New York, I know why I moved away in the first place. Living right off the lake and getting a ton of snow just makes winter seem to last forever and February becomes this big, grey dark beast that I’m grateful only lasts 28 days. I do miss the winters of Las Vegas where come January and February, I played in softball leagues at night… in sweats.

As for the favorite from top 10/5 available, surprisingly the only one I’ve ever sniffed is Patchouli Patch and I’ve never been a big Patchouli fan – though I’ve found myself warming up to it in certain compositions of late (where it’s the main attraction, such as Montale’s Patchouly Leaves).

I would love to try Eau d’Italie’s Baume du Doge – Michelyn made it sound divine and I’ve yet to sample anything from the line. Also, Jovoy-Paris’s La Liturgie des Heures sounds nice, too – I’m a sucker for incense. I’m snowed in upstate New York, thanks for the opportunity and the chance to warm my thoughts!

  • I’m Canadian and frankly, I loathe winter. A lot. I’m always cold, even in the summer. So. On the bright side, some fragrances smell better in the wintertime, like my heavier, oriental favourites.

I haven’t tried any of the above, but I love the three things I’ve tried from Parfumerie Generale. Everything above sounds delicious but Gold Leather sounds to me particularly lovely and warm. Thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • Cynthia Richardson says:

Winter in Tucson is very mild, but mornings can be cold. It doesn’t really last long enough to mind it. The concept of winter with snow and barren trees and people huddled up in multi-layers rarely happens. I haven’t had the pleasure of wearing any of your top ten fragrances listed. I live in the US and, should I win, I would choose Baume du Doge or D.S. & Durga’s Siberian Snow.

  • I love winter! As long as someone else is driving. 🙂

I haven’t tried any of the ten fragrances, but the Vaniglia e Fichi sounds like heaven. When I lived in Italy, Fichi was my favorite flavor of gelato! Maybe it smells something like how that gelato tastes…

I think I am a sucker for Patchouli, so Patchouli Patch it is for my final choice. I live in NYC.

    Thanks!

  • Winter is not my favorite season, but it has its own charm. I do not like days full of humidity, but I like when it is very cold and sunny. From your selection, I like L’Ombre Fauve and La Liturgie des Heures. PK Prefumes Gold Leather is so wonderful fragrance, it is my favorite from your list. I’m in the EU, Croatia. La Liturgie des Heures or Patchouli Patch or Baume du Doge is possible choice. Thank you.

  • Winter in South Carolina is not so bad – we have few very few days when the temperature drops below 45′. I dislike winter because all the grey and brown depresses me, I miss spring and summer’s vivid greens. I would love to win Baume du Doge if I am fortunate! USA

  • I adore winter season. Warm clothing layers, wool socks, fur slippers, hot cocoa and sitting by the fire wearing a thick coating of perfume around the neck. What’s not to love? I tried Patchouli patch at my local perfume shop and found it very similar to Tom ford white patchouli which I found very similar to David yurman essence. Not a fan of any of them. I haven’t got to try out other perfumes mentioned here.
    I would love to win
    Baume du doge
    Pk gold leather or
    Jovoy la liturgie des hures
    Thank USA

  • I’m not a great fan of slippery walking surfaces, but otherwise I like bundling up in my favorite cozy attire in the winter months! That said, winter in the PNW is mostly just gray and soggy (I love the look and smell of snow!). My favorite from the list is Patch Patch, which I own in 100ml form — but it’s also the only one I know! I live in the USA, and I’d most love to win, in order, Baume du Doge, La Liturgie des Heures, Siberian Snow and Gold Leather. Thanks for the draw!

  • Being from Canada, one of my main associations with winter is the experience of spending a considerable amount of time in the freezing cold, and then walking into a warm, friendly space: it doesn’t have to be home, it could be a cafe, or even a pub. Spending any amount of time in the freezing cold gets your entire body on edge. It’s instinctively fighting for survival. But then walking into a warm, friendly space makes the fight disappear all at once. Within minutes your body relaxes. The effect is so powerful it even feels like it changes your interactions with strangers. There is a joyful solidarity to knowing we’re surviving the threat of winter together.

During winter time, I like wearing perfumes that are warm and comforting (e.g. I lean towards ambery orientals more than usual), while still packing some sort of punch: be it the sweaty, radiant pungency of cumin, the rubbery/smoky goodness of Annick Menardo’s Black and Patch 24, a castoreum overdose, or amounts of Oakmoss that would give IFRA a heart attack – if it had a heart.

I have to confess that I know the fragrances on this list quite poorly. But I have a soft spot for everything Duchaufourd, and I do remember loving the (limited) experience I’ve had with Baume du Doge. So I would have to go with that!

My choice would be Baume du Doge. I live in New York.

  • I dislike heat so I do not mind winter at all. Much rather put on layers instead of being sweaty! Quite enjoy staying inside and keeping cozy with a fire and some candles.
Of the ten fragrances mentioned I have only tried Elixir des Merveilles.
Would love to try La Liturgie des Heures, Patchouli Patch, or Siberian Snow. I am in the US.

  • Winter is not my favorite season. I don’t like that it’s cold outside and the days are much too short. Also hate having to wear different layers of clothes. But I adore winter fragrances. I’m always looking forward wearing my dark season fragrances.

My favorite from the top ten list is La Liturgie des Heures.

My choices are La Liturgie des Heures, Patchouli Patch or Baume du Doge. I live in the Netherlands.

  • Winter to me in perfumery world is all about warmth. I’m sure im not alone at this aspect but I do enjoy wearing the more heavier scents with lasting power from morning to night. Every winter I bring out my heavy hitters that I keep tucked away most of the warmer months and its so nice when you put on a fragrance and some of it gets on the scarf so you can smell it throughout the day. From the top 10 list, I have tried Baume du doge and its amazing. I have worn it during summer months and it performed amazingly as well.

For the draw I am interested in La Liturgie des Heures, Patchouli Patch, Baume du Doge, and Siberian Snow

    USA
    thank you

  • I don’t think I have been appreciating winter as much as I should be lately. I’ve found myself very busy every winter and have ignored the beauty and comfort that come with chilly weather. I’d like to start enjoying winter fashion, winter fragrances and winter fun once again, so I will take some time to remember to do so. Thank you for this wonderful draw. I am in the US. Out of the fragrances reviewed in this article, I would say that I am most drawn to I Profumi di Firenze – Vanlglia e Fichi and Parfumerie Generale- L’Ombre Fauve.

As for my choices from the five:

    1. Patchouli Patch 2. 50 ml La Liturgie des Heures
    3. Baume du Doge 4. D.S. & Durga’s Siberian Snow

    Thank you!
