When I first visited Etat Libre d`Orange’s Parisian flagstore boutique in 2007, I was very much struck by its innovative, sexy and outrageous concepts. Provocative Taschen books set off the perfumes perfectly. I was pleased to try all the fragrances again, such as my favorites Jasmin et Cigarettes and Secretion Magnifique, but especially to discover the ‘celebuscents’ with provocative names…Tom of Finland and Rossy de Palma`s personal scent, Eau de Protection before they were launched to the public!
I do remember my thoughts when I saw the address: Rue des Archives, 69…the street number is splendid for another ELO fragrance; it is provocative and outrageous (a double entendre). Of course I speak of the slang term for oral sex… in French, it is soixante-neuf.
Now meet and greet the new perfume: Archives 69 by Etat Libre d`Orange! And yes, the scandal hidden in its name will be continued in its concept; this is a gourmand perfume, built upon gustative notes.
Here Ms. Nagel fulfills all that the brief asked for, and made the perfume's sex appeal both erotic and innocent. Seems to me, Christine Nagel made not only one scent, she made a perfume image of the whole brand and even Etienne de Swardt himself.
