Like all other big cities, the actual smell of London is of course somewhat different to the postcard ‘strawberries and 5 o’clock tea’- one. It is also very different to the one evocative of the olfactory remembrance of the place, which I suppose will often tend towards a fair bit of nostalgia.
I got the perfume as a solid, and rubbing it on is revelatory. It smells like weather. How did Lush do this?
Amorvero was initially created to be the exclusive fragrance of the Hotel Hassler Roma. Roberto Wirth the President of the hotel wanted a sophisticated feminine fragrance. Sig. Ferro took three very strong floral notes as his core in tuberose, jasmine and Damask rose and uses bright citrus notes on top and sweet ambery notes in the base to create something very identifiably feminine but also something that a fan of tuberose will also enjoy.
Caron Secret Oud is about The Secret, rather than The Oud. It is really about the stealth of seamlessness.
As we enter the last few days of 2011 I begin to look back over the year for trends and the things I learned while exploring the new fragrances. One of those things that fall in the latter category, for me, this year is how different an eau de parfum or extrait formulation can allow me to find something entirely new out of the same basic architecture as a lesser concentration. For some reason this year has seemed to prove this to me on a monthly basis. For these final days of 2011 I received two final lessons in what a parfum can do.
