The way we shop and buy niche fragrances has just changed. When we think of niche perfumery Sephora isn’t the place we expect to find “perfumista” brands. That is changing

The newest perfume from L’Artisan Parfumeur, Seville a l’Aube, was created by master perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour based on the description of a particularly sensual night spent in Seville by blogger and author Denyse Beaulieu. I will be reviewing the perfume for its own sake and on its own merits.
Parfums MDCI Chypre Palatin opens with a symphony, an overused term that completely suits this occasion. There is forest, there is soap, there is comforting darkness and fizzy light all at once. I am taken to my grandmother’s powdery dressing table, to my mother’s fine wool sweater I nuzzled as a child, to my father’s cigar box. Chypre Palatin smells like none of these things exactly, but conjures all of these things in my mind.
Several months ago M. Marchal told us that the next Parfums MCDI would be an oriental chypre by Bertrand Duchaufour (who created their last fragrance La Belle Helene).
In 2009 L’Artisan Parfumeur released an Aedes de Venustas fragrance created by Bertrand Duchaufour. Now in 2012 we have another new perfume with the name Aedes de Venustas on the flacon and while L’Artisan is no longer involved; M. Duchaufour is again the perfumer.
In Oud Shamash M Duchaufour wanted to create a sensual masculine and I thought he succeeded. You might think Oud For Love would be the flip side of that and an intensely floral heart could lead you to believe that was what he was shooting for. As I wore Oud For Love I found it more a study in three acts to see what different sets of notes could bring out from the oud.
