Keiko Mecheri also believes in the ability of fragrance to capture a place. In 2010 she created La Collection Hesperides. Last year’s Paradise Lost captured India and now the 2012 destination is Sunny St. Tropez in Un Jour d’Ete.
The times are few where my chemistry geek side and my perfume geek side overlap. One of the places has been the existence of the Mane Jungle Essence technology. When I received the new Etat Libre d’Orange Dangerous Complicity the note list led off with three notes containing the JE initials and I thought this would be a good chance to see this in action.
Such was the case with Memo Shams which was released in the second half of 2011. If I had received this stunning fragrance while the calendar still read 2011 this would’ve been a contender for perfume of the year for me and certainly would have been on my top 25 for the year.
Perfumer Andy Tauer, a CaFleureBon pick for Perfumer of the Decade, is one of my personal favorite perfumers. Recently, he embarked on a journey of collaboration with filmmaker Brian Pera to create perfumes based on characters in Brian’s film project, A Woman’s Picture. I received 7 ml bottles of Tableau de Parfums scents; Loretta, and Dark Passage, a limited-edition scent created especially for this project.
True Blood (an HBO series based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris) takes this one step further. Vampires have come “out of the coffin” and for the last four seasons have had many of us rapt in front of our televisions on Sunday summer nights. As I watch the show, I often imagine what scents these intriguing characters would wear.
Certainly, the physical grace and nuanced performances of Berenice Bejo and Jean Dujardin made it easy to imagine a signature fragrance for their characters. As Peppy and George moved across the screen effortlessly, I felt as if I could almost smell their sillage.
