Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie Review + Nocturnal Paradise Draw

Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie review

Moonlight by Nellie Vin via Flickr

The British “Attar Czar” has a new fragrance oil for 2019,  Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie, and it is everything the name promises, an exotic garden full to the brim of white floral night-blooming blossoms bathed in glorious pale moonlight, just waiting for an illicit assignation and a lover’s warm embrace.

At the twilight, a moon appeared in the sky;

Then it landed on earth to look at me.

Like a hawk stealing a bird at the time of prey;

That moon stole me and rushed back into the sky.

I looked at myself, I did not see me anymore;

For in that moon, my body turned as fine as soul.

The nine spheres disappeared in that moon;

The ship of my existence drowned in that sea.   – Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi

Sultan Pasha Moonlit reverie

Robert Herrmann and Sultan Pasha during Esxence 2018

Sultan Pasha is one of those rare human beings who leave deep impressions; meeting him in 2018 (read about that meeting here), was like finding a bit of my soul so strongly did his personae resonate with me. He approaches his perfume oils in the same manner; deliberately, consciously, carefully, spiritually, and the end result is often a tiny vial of perfection. His creations are not inexpensive, but when you consider that just one or two drops of his oil on your skin will last a whole day, the price becomes irrelevant. Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie is no exception, it is a journey straight into a world of flowers caressed by moonlight, dripping erotically with honey, almost obscene in its beauty.

via chandra musuem

You enter this nocturnal paradise by slowly ambling through a long loggia overhung with an explosion of jasmine blossoms, the soft grass under your feet is moist and dewy, and the path is lined with mottled terra cotta urns bursting with gardenia and tuberose. Miniature orange trees in full bloom are there also, adrift in clumps of ambrosial-scented jonquil. The scent is pervasive and enveloping, a heady floral hallucination that makes your head swim. The crystalline beams of moonlight that kiss the blooms play hide-and-seek through the white pillars supporting the scented firmament above you. As you enter into the hidden depths of the garden, there is really nothing to do but lay down in the grass, and let the hay-like dusty scent of the cooling earth surround you and mingle with the ever-present sylvan fragrance of the garden at the height of its glorious bloom. Beneath all this is an essence of something animalic and feral, and as you sink into a Stendhal-like trance you realize what that is; the scent of desire made manifest by your surroundings and your very own joy. As a self-professed moon-child, Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie didn’t just speak to my soul, it whispered into my ear seductively, and captured (and enraptured) my heart.

Notes: Tuberose Absolute, Gardenia absolute, aldehydes, Sandalwood Mysore, orange blossom Absolute, jasmine Absolute, Orange blossom Accord, Tuberose, Orris concrete, Narcissus Absolute, Siamese Benzoin, Bourbon Vetiver, Swedish Castoreum, White Ambergris, Cassis Absolute, musks, Honey Absolute.

Disclosure: Thanks so much to Sultan Pasha for the sample. The opinions are my own.

Sultan Pasha Moonlit reverie review

I am your moon and your moonlight too
I am your flower garden and your water too
I have come all this way, eager for you
Without shoes or shawl
I want you to laugh
To kill all your worries
To love you
To nourish you

Moonlit Reverie  looks like quite a rich floral attar. The list of notes is quite exhaustive and that is what makes it difficult to predict the smell while also being curious. I am in US

  • recursivemask says:

I'm always excited for a well executed floral, and this attar seems like a masterpiece. Robert paints a beautiful picture of a moonlit garden, night flowers perfuming the air around you. To be transported there would be divine. I'd love to get my hands on the 3ml vial, and I'm in the US. I haven't had a chance to smell any Sultan Pasha attars, unfortunately.

  • I have never tried Sultan Pasha though I have heard only good and great things about his attars. White flowers in the moonlight led by my favorite, tuberose, sounds wonderful. I love that Moonlight Reverie has a feral aspect to it! I would want the 3ml. In the US.

  • damianachi says:

I am not familiar with this line, but I find the inspiration for this particular fragrance quite compelling. I love the name and I am also inspired by the combination of the numerous fruity and floral notes with the animalic base. I would like the 3 ml bottle and I live in the USA.

  • I know Sultan's florals to be of exquisite grandeur and as a tuberose lover this sounds like a dream ! I would be in awe to own a 3ml bottle. I reside in Europe.

  • This is a new line for me having never tried an attar before. The poetry and imagery in the review are truly a soul catcher 🙂 Thank you Robert for the vivid review and the opportunity to sample these delights. I would want the 3ml bottle of Moonlight Reverie. I am in TX USA

  • Some of my oldest and dearest, know of my intense love for beautifully crafted Attars. It's a deep resonance with a previous journey, another land and time. Loved the review and Sultan has won the hearts of some very near and dear to me, Thank You, Sir.  The part of the review spoke straight to my inner being "The scent is pervasive and enveloping, a heady floral hallucination that makes your head swim. " I am in the US

  • I have not tried any of Pasha Sultan's attars.  A very happy face and welcoming article.  I would love a sample set to explore.  Thank you for the chance.  USA

  • DespinaVnt says:

Thank you, dear Robert, for the poems included, as well as for the poetry of your own review.

I'm utterly charmed by Sultan Pasha's described personality, his precious creations and this phrase: "Moonlit Reverie is no exception, it is a journey straight into a world of flowers caressed by moonlight, dripping erotically with honey, almost obscene in its beauty."

I'd be ecstatic to win any of the prizes, but if I have to choose, then I would pick the sample set (a great opportunity to try several attars, since I haven't yet tried any).

    Love from Paris, France.

  • WoW! Sultan Pasha is brilliant and such a cool person, I so enjoyed seeing your pics from Milan together! This magical elixir would be so very treasured, thank you for the opportunity! Live in the US.

  • This article has prompted me to spend some time researching Sultan Pasha Attars and am highly impressed by the overwhelming approval they have received from the perfume community. It seems as if everyone who has tried them loves them!

I love the way Robert has described this perfume — the juxtaposition between heady florals and rich, sweeping animalic notes must be a scent to behold!

Unfortunately, I have yet to dip my toe into the world of attars, but would be very honored if I were to win either the 3 ML or the sampler set. Am I allowed to be in the running for both? If I must choose, I'd have to select the sampler. Thank you so much for this most thoughtful review and generous drawing! USA

  • Ive tried a sample of MR so Im requesting to be in the 3ml drawing. Such a lovely review !!

  • Sultan Pasha is a name in the perfume world I have heard only glowing reports about but unfortunately I've never tried any of his work. Moonlit Reverie contains some of my favortie notes, I adore white flowers. If I'm lucky enough to win I would like the sample set. Thank you for the review and draw. USA

  • ovais.saleem says:

What an awesome review!!! This oil sounds lovely, unfortunately i haven't had the opportunity to try out the oils by Sultan Pasha but have been meaning to try these. Would love to own a 3ml of this lovely oil. Pakistan

  • I thought the review was good enough to get me vety interested in this attar. I have, for a long time now, wanted to try Sultan pasha fragrances and this is a great opportunity to do so. Thank you. I reside in Canada.

  • I currently own Encens Chypre, which is one of my favourite perfumes of all time, and Fougere Noir. I've tried a few more and honestly I could love the mall. I'd like the 3ml please. I live in Australia.

  • Just wow. This sounds so beautiful. Here was my favorite part.

  • JONATHON CHANTHAMALA says:

I really love the description of Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie. The description of the fragrance starting off magically floral, heady, grassy and ends animalic. I would love to have a sample of this as I love oriental style fragrances and am looking to buy the next one. New York, NY.

  • Robert's review really undeerscores just how magnificant the fragrances of Sultan Pasha truly are.  I'm sure that just as Robert's review makes you see that moonlit garden, Sultan Pasha's fragrances will bring all of its scents to the wearer.  I've tried several of his attars and they are amazing.  Thanks for a wonderful review and a very generous draw.  I'm in the USA

  • Moonlight Revêrie seems to be one of the best crEations of Sultan! I am already a big lover of his attars, the  list would be too long to name such a few of them! But it is true my favourite ones are the luscious flowers or the misterious incense-based ones….too good! I am in this draw , I wouldn't mind owning a 3ml of Moonlight Rêverie! I'm in Spain.

  • This sounds like a full on Pisces scent if ever there was one. Wet & moonlit, I’m a lover of “nocturnal florals” as I call them, those that remind one of moonlight, heavy, humid air, when the perfumes of plants & flowers hang heavy in the air. There goes my budget again.,.. but Sultan’s scents are so worth it. Scents given such personal attention, with no regard to flashy advertisements, just brilliantly done fragrance that you can tell, carry  the mark of their maker, they have soul. Irisoir is one of my favorites, along with Thebes, Sohan D Iris, and Encens Chypre. I love flowers & deep green vegetation. Those scents always strike a chord with me, and make my heart swell. Thank you for the wonderful review to swoon over once again! ❤️

  • It’s the second time I read very praising words about Sultan Pasha (first time was by your collaborator, Dana Sandu) and I must say he sounds like an exquisite person and creator. Such a spiritual, sensorial, poetic perfume I would definitely love to experience. I would love the 3 ml attar, but definitely the samples too, because I have never had the opportunity to test any of his creations. Thanks for the draw! I’m from Romania.

  • Beautiful. I adore the aesthetic of Moonlight Reverie. I've seen Sultan Pasha mentioned numerous times (and always in high praise!) but I have yet to have to opportunity to try his attars. I'd be delighted to win either option! Thanks for the draw. China/HK

  • I enjoyed both Robert's description of meeting Sultan Pasha AND Robert's description of the Moonlight Reverie. I like anything beautiful to the point of obsenity. I would be forever grateful to win the generous draw of the sample set of Sultan Pasha imps. I live in the US.

  • I've never tried an attar before so this would be an entirely new experience for me. Moonlight reverie sounds so grandly lush that just one drop certainly would do! I loved the idea of these heady blooms at night. I'd prefer the grand prize but would be thrilled with the sample set too. I live in the USA. Thanks for the drawing!

  • I have yet to try Moonlit Reverie. I remember, when Sultan Pasha was contemplting what name it should be given, he was saying on Facebook how rarely uses aldehydes in his compositions, let alone with very expensive floral extracts. In our garden we have quite a few florals – rose, gardenia, night-blooming jasmine (Cestrum nocturnum), shefali (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis), kamini (Murraya paniculata), frangipani, spider lilly, and local jasmine sambac. During summer nights, if there is a rain just after sunset and then those flowers start blooming later at night, then the overall smell gets even more intense in humid and slightly windy night. It is intoxicatingly heady to say the least. So Robert describing it as a 'heady floral hallucination' confirms my suspicion. So I would love to win Moonlit Reverie. Alternatively, I wouldn't mind winning the sample set either. For those who do not know if you miss classical Mitsuoko and don't want to spend too much, give his 'Ences Chypre' a try. It's one of his best compositions. Bangladesh and UK

  • I got distracted so bad! I would like the 3 ml, I’m already in love with so many SP attars! I wish jasmine would grow well around here.

  • O, this sounds really lovely! ‘A tiny vial of perfection’

I never tried any attar, but this review makes me very curious and I love to try some of the attars from Sultan Pasha. What makes me so curious is the description of how Sultan Pasha puts his heart and soul in the creating of a new attar and resold’s in a ‘tiny vial of perfection’.

If possible, I really would love to try the sampleset, and really get to know these attars from Sultan Pasha. I live in the Netherlands.

  • I've been reading so much about the creations of Sultan Pasha. Very interesting indeed. As for Moonlight Reverie I think I need this, seen that it's " almost obscene in its beauty"…. although I would be happy with any price. Thank you Sultan Pasha and Cafleurebon for this wonderful draw! I live in the Netherlands.

  • I already own five of Sultan's lovely attars: Incense Royal, Incense, Ensar Rose, Nankun Kodo and Le Rayon Vert and I'm certainly interested in this one as he is so very proud of it. It seems like a work of dedication and pure beauty. The review only makes me more curious plus: I am a bit of a moon addict myself so I quite understand why he would name oneof his attars for it. I'd love to win it, but I'm happy with anything coming from his hands 🙂

  • bigscoundrel says:

What a beautiful composition and presentation! I'd love to have the 3ml. I'm in the USA.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

This sounds wonderful. I love white flowers that are grounded in some kind of earthiness, which is what it sounds like this is. I've read a lot of Sultan Pasha's scents, but haven't tried them yet. I'd love the opportunity to have 3ml of this. Thanks so much for the draw–I'm in the US.

  • I love how the review makes an imaginary garden come to life — I can see it! I love floral fragrances. I live in the US; I would prefer the 3 ml but would also enjoy the samples. Thanks!

  • Sultan Pasha is so well known in the perfume community and this is like a dream come true. The Rumi poetry was a wonderful touch. I only own one Attar ensens rose but would love to win the moonlit reverie

    I live in the USA

  • Wow! I would chose the sample set, because I have never tryed that kind of fragrances, attars. Very nice review. Thank you for the chance. I live in Europe.

  • Dubaiscents says:

I have sampled many of Sultan Pasha’s creations and haven’t found a bad one yet! This one sounds like an indolic overload and I would love to see what he does with all those big white florals! I also wanted to mention that SP seems like such a down to earth, funny guy! I hope I get to meet him in person some day. Thanks for the draw, I would love the 3ml of this and I am in the US.

  • This is beautifully and artistically executed. I'm personally not familiar with this house because it is out of my reach but it is always praised as one of the most artistic niche houses here in my local fragrance community. I would love to try the 3 ml. Greetings from the Philippines!

  • As an avid gardener, often til dusk, Moonlit Reverie sounds heavenly. If lucky, I would choose the generous sample set. I haven't had the pleasure of sniffing any of his creations and would love to explore these attars. Thanks for the draw!!! USA

  • Omg, havent tried any of his stuff. Sounds so good , white floral addict right here 😉

Half of my perfumistagroup went to the fair and posted pics with Sultan Pasha, next year Inwont let myself stay home snd be jealous ! Great giveaway and beautiful review!

  • I've heard about his creations and also what a great guy he is. They all look amazing but never had the chance to try them.

This Moonlit Reverie looks like a masterpiece with white flowers. I really like them and try them. As a guy there are little white florals that we can pull off and wear but this looks like it is the perfect white flowers creation.

I live in the US and would love to win the Sample Set.

    Thanks

  • Hello everyone, Mevlana's poem and the review is harmonious. Reminds me the full moon spring nights. A little bit chill but full of energy and you long for your loved one, lots of thougts, she is on your mind, thats what it feels like. For the Sultan's attars, I adore many of them, Vetiver Blanch I own,  Requiem, Cafe Ambre Noir, Thebes, Jardin de Borneo Gardenia, L'Heure D'or, Sohan D'Iris, Truffle Noir, Fougere Noir and Aurum D'Angkhor and so on 🙂 . I live in Turkey and I would like to participate in for Moonlit Reverie. Sultan never failed to amaze me, because he really uses his emotions to create and an incredible talent of course. His descriptions of the attars are so accurate and I have no difficulty to feel the same description. He is the best at expression of his emotions with the smells.

  • Thank you for such a great article. I've just receive today a sample pack and I am speechless.  I adore all.Moonlit reverie is one of my favorite. I have my nose now in Cafe Ambre Noir . Oh boy – amazing . Sultan Pasha fan for ever from Denmark .

  • redwheelbarrow says:

What a beautiful review and what an impressive craftsman Sultan Pasha must be. The floral animalism is so richly described in this review. I would love to win the 3ml and I am in the US.

  • Michael Prince says:

I haven't sampled any of Sultan Pasha's creations. Moonlight Reverie looks wonderful with the floral notes along with a large variety of notes in the heart and the base.  I would be happy with the sample set.  I am from the USA.

  • Being a writer and a poet myself, this post by Sir Robert made me walk into the world of imagination. All the writers and poets here will agree how we get into the world of imagination as we read things up. This write-up by Sir Robert made me all the more curious about the lovely creations of Sir Sultan Pasha. In fact, it reminded me of my poem which I wrote in my college days back in 2010. I would like to share the same with you guys. Here it goes…

    THE MOON

    I saw the moon,

    So well it shoon,

    On my face,

    Full of grace.

    She started to say,

    That she shows the way,

    At the night,

    And make it bright.

    “Also in the noon”,

    Said the moon,

    “At my place I stay,

    Come what may”.

    It’s just that I don’t shine,

    In the prevailing sunshine.

    And when it is dim,

    In the eve; and grim,

    I show my light,

    And again make it bright.

This is the role I play,

    To show all the way,

    Come what may,

    I’m here to stay.

    – Tariq Akhtar

The lovely oils created by Sir Pasha have always mesmerized me into thinking how soulful and magical each one of his offerings are. What you have written from the core of your heart and also by including mystic words of Mewlana Rumi has increased the thirst of my soul even more. Now my soul longs for the sample set so that I can have the pleasure of sniffing world class oils by the British Attar Czar.

I am an attar enthusiast from Kolkata, India.

  • DulciusExAsperis says:

I have always been entranced by the moon (i have a tattoo of it) and the way this review describes moonlit tuberose and gardenia is making me swoon… i would love to try this! I've been wanting for a while to try a Sultan Pasha attar but have not yet had the chance. The 3ml would be wonderful. I am in the USA.

  • This sounds really fascinating. The long note list of MR makes it seem so complex and unpredictable, but this review really justifies the name – so dreamy and poetic. In fact, I have not tried any attars before. I would be honored and excited to have a sample set of Sultan’s creation. Thank you for the opportunity. I live in Germany.

  • A fellow perfumista whose opinion I hold in high esteem wrote a passionate review on Moonlit Reverie, and it's nice to see that Robert isn't immune to the charm of this perfume, either. White florals are a tricky kind of perfume (to me, at least) but when they're good, they're perfect.

I'd love to win a 3ml bottle since getting a sample set has been in my plans for a while now. I live in Russia.

  • Robert's vivid description made me feel like I was in some Moonlit garden taking in the intoxicating scent. I am in the U.S. and  I have been wanting to try Sultan Pasha's creations for some time as I have heard nothing but praises. I would love to win the sample set. Thank you for the opportunity!

  • steve.khoo says:

Great review, Robert really did perfectly describe a seductive, narcotic moonlit garden to paint the mood of this attar. Interest has definitely been peaked to try this one day. I have heard so many wonderful things about Sultan Pasha’s creations but as of yet have not been able to sample them.

Thank you for a great giveaway, very generous indeed! I would Love to enter for a chance to win the sample set. I’m from Sydney, Australia and thanks again for the opportunity!

  • ElizabethC says:

This sounds amazing.  Intense florals and honey.  I have not tried this brand before but would love to try the 3ml bottle.  I am in the US.  Thank you so much for the drawing!

  • I do love the name of the fragrance and the bottles looks so rich and luxurious. I love florals fragrances and this one sounds so yummy and beautiful. I’ll love to sample it. Robert did a great job describing the fragrance in detail in such a poetic manner.

I live in USA and would love the 3ml bottle.

  • Amy Leonhardt says:

I have been wanting to try Sultan Pasha’s attars for so long, but they are just out of reach! I want to be enraptured by the moonlight and white blooms, too! I could feel the indolic sweetness and cool breeze from reading the review. I would love to try the sample set. I’m in CA, USA.

  • I love Sultan's creations and Moonlit Reverie sounds amazing. Tuberose can be such a tough floral to wear and love and I can only imagine what magic Sultan would have created. Robert's description is that of a night blooming magical garden; fragrant, intoxicating and alive. I am in Australia and would love to win a sample set to try all the new masterpieces.

  • samppahoo says:

I have never tried attars before and I know Sultan Pasha makes the very best. What sounds best about Moonlit Reverie is how much it reminds of a summer’s night in nature, and how hypnotic and therapeutical that can be. I would love to win the 3 ml bottle. Thanks for the generous giveaway! From Finland.

  • LORI LAWS says:

Robert's review was awesome! I have been wanting to try Sultan Pasha's line for a while now. The attars sound exquisite. I was intrigued by: "Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie is no exception, it is a journey straight into a world of flowers caressed by moonlight, dripping erotically with honey, almost obscene in its beauty." I also enjoyed this as well: "the scent of desire made manifest by your surroundings and your very own joy." Thanks for the giveaway and I live in the US!

  • This review made my heart beat faster. I am very familiar with Sultan Pashar’s creations, and I would relish the chance to try this “obscenely beautiful “ attar. I love so many of Sutlaks gems, with too many favorites to list. That being said, I simply adore Aurum D’Angkhor and Tabac Grande. I would love to win the 3ml bottle and live in the US. Thanks for this incredible draw.

  • I love Robert's review and the description of Sultan Pasha Moonlit Reverie a fragrance rich in floral notes, grass and animalic ones in the end.

Thank you all so much for the great comments! Sultan is one in a million, and his work is always a joy to review. I know he’s been reading these comments, and has been quite moved by your words ♥️♥️♥️! Again thanks!

  • Great review! I have never experienced a fragrance that is concentrated to the point that a small ML goes for hundreds of dollars, but have always wanted too. Im reminded of Ensar Oud, who I have yet to sample, but great stuff per the reviews in a small package. This sounds like a very similar type of house/perfumer. Thank you for the chance at the drawing!! US.

  • doveskylark says:

I love fragrances that evoke moonlight. This one sounds heavenly, the tuberose and jasmine, the lushness that must emanate from the perfume. I’m a moon child at heart, even though now I go to bed early, and don’t walk in the moonlight as much as I used to.
I have heard so many good things about this house’s Incense fragrance, that it recalls Norma Kamali’s classic Incense.
    I would choose the sampler.
    I live in the USA.

  • The description and the pictures are just dreamy. This must be a really romantic flower bomb, but i had heard that attars dont project as much, as perfume. This would be perfect for sniffing oneselfs wrist the hole day, without projecting like crazy. I would choose the attar, if i get lucky.

  • drewactor says:

Great review. I have never tried Sultan Pashas work but have been wanting to try attars for a while now. I like the description of a major floral and walking through gardens in the moonlight. I live in the USA and i would like thr 3ml attar if i am lucky enough to win. Thanks.

If I am lucky enough to win I would go for the 3ml. I'm in Romania.

  • Tuberose is one of my favorite notes.  Thank you for the chance to enter this draw.  I have never tried an attar before, so would love the chance to do so.  Canada.

I have heard only great things about Sultan Pasha and his creations. That is completely different level of perfume as for connecting to your true soul and to your true instincts, too. Loved that poem of Rumi, too. I would love to win the sample set. Thank you! With love from Latvia, Europe/EU.

A beautiful and poetic review, Robert !
Even though I haven't sampled Sultan Pasha's attars, I always aspired to sample his creations. I've read numerous impressive reviews about his work
I'm a moon-child too and the last part from Robert's review captured my heart, as well.
I would love to win a sample set. It would be a wonderful opportunity to try all of Sultan Pasha's creations.
    Thank you !
    I'm in the EU.

For a Tuberose lover, Moonlit Reverie sounds like a dream come true, especially when it's created by an amazing master like Sultan Pasha using the finest absolute and extracts.
Robert's review is very evocative and perfectly describes the olfactory picture: "Moonlit Reverie it is a journey straight into a world of flowers caressed by moonlight".
I'd be "over the moon" to win a bottle of Moonlit Reverie !
Thank you for this amazing draw !
    I'm in Romania.

  • I tried several attars and I love the way they behave on the skin. It is a bit different than alcohol based fragrances. I have not had the opportunity to know Sultan Pasha creations, but have heard only good opinions. The sample set looks very inviting. I am sure that there is a lot of wonderful treasures to explore.
Would love to win the sample set. I live in Europe.
