Solstice Scents Headmistress conjured in my mind a woman who encouraged students to keep journals to record their life experiences and personal growth. She is an authoritarian yet displays compassion and understanding. She desires to know the pupils personally without prying into every detail, so that their barriers become nonexistent. The diaries furnish her wisdom, individualized direction, and aid for each student, helping them learn self-discipline while nurturing their self-esteem. This support helps them with creative expression and critical thinking, uncovering their skills and passions. Importantly to a encourage them to question preconceived ideas about themselves and each other.

Right from the initial spray, Solstice Scents Headmistress reveals her fruity notes of plum and the juicy boldness of muscadine grape skin. The opening is spirited and impressive, gracefully poised by a soothing trace of cognac. Headmistress, she draws you in, inviting you to get comfortable, maybe even share a treasured secret or two, along with your hopes and dreams. These notes set the background for what follows, tempered by structure, intensity, and nostalgia.

Solstice Scents Headmistress reveals her heart as she settles, showcasing a warm blend of spicy clove-forward purple rose with a sight touch of Rose de Mai, Moroccan, and Bulgarian rose to add body. Yet this is not a rose nor floral-heavy fragrance. Paper nuances and the suggestion of a wooden ruler compliment her, adding an unexpected mix that gives it a no-nonsense character, truly capturing the essence of a Headmistress.

In the dry down, Solstice Scents Headmistress showcases her quintessence, which features labdanum, a touch of grounding oakmoss, benzoin, aged patchouli, and tonka; these notes deliver a soothing, musky scent that lingers pleasantly on the skin. The nuanced sweetness and warmth, combined with the depth of resin and wood, create a cozy yet mysterious aura that feels engaging and polished. The exquisite mix of light resins and woods adds complexity, making it a fragrance that reveals new dimensions with each passing hour.

I appreciate how Solstice Scents Headmistress shows her reserved demeanor; she is not a perfume that shouts for attention but whispers her charm, making it perfect for those who appreciate elegance and subtlety. It is an exquisite blend that expertly balances fruitiness, spiciness, and earthy notes, a must-try for anyone looking for a complex yet refined fragrance with a hint of intrigue. Headmistress is beautifully crafted and conveys a different story to each who experiences her, because the story is also in her diary, which she shows to no one.

Top notes: Plum, Muscadine Grape Skin, Cognac; Heart notes: Clove bud, Purple Rose, Paper, Wooden Ruler; Base Notes: Labdanum, Oakmoss, Benzoin, Aged Patchouli, Tonka

  • Plum notes are so beautiful. The fruity notes paired with a paper and wooden ruler accord, so intriguing. I would love to smell this.

I’m very intrigued to try Solstice Scents “Headmistress”. It seems like a fruity, spicy, earthy, ambery fragrance, and I think I’d be very fond of it. I like all of its notes.

I like when Sandi describes it by saying: “perfect for those who appreciate elegance and subtlety. It is an exquisite blend that expertly balances fruitiness, spiciness, and earthy notes, a must-try for anyone looking for a complex yet refined fragrance with a hint of intrigue. Headmistress is beautifully crafted and conveys a different story to each who experiences her”. I like it that Sandi makes the point that it is a complex fragrance “that reveals new dimensions with each passing hour.”

I’m also very intrigued to try Solstice Scents “Headmaster”. I live in MD, USA.

  • Solstice Scents is one of my favorite perfumers and Headmistress sounds like another winner: evocative, atmospheric but also an intricatly personal fragrance. The review makes it sound like a perfect portrait of a turn of the century headmistress!

  • This perfume, Headmistress, is giving me tasteful yet kinky vibes. Sandy beautifully describes the dark fruit, cognac, patchouli, etc. blended to an intimate whisper. This sounds equally appropriate for a night out when in the mood to catch nearby sniffers off guard or enjoying a cozy read alone on a winter’s day. It can be both, “Disturb the peace” and “the peace”. I live and sniff in NY.

  • Headmistress contains luscious purple fruits such as plum and muscadine grape. Combined with cognac, a clove forward purple rose and a blend of musky, earthy base notes, this fragrance seems elegant and complex. MD, USA.

  • The idea a cloved rose sounds incredible especially with a classic Chypre like base. I would love to try this! I also really love plum as a note and I am curious how that plays out as a top note. I am in US. Thank you for the giveaway.

  • Angela St John is one of my favorite perfumers. So talented. Plum , Muscadine Grape Skin, Cognac and wood ruler notes sounds amazing. I liked Sandi’s introduction, “Solstice Scents Headmistress conjured in my mind a woman who encouraged students to keep journals reflecting on their experiences with life, discipline, and personal growth

  • Headmistress’s juicy opening combo of plum and grape skin is distinctive, and I was surprised to read that the rose note is just a subtle accent. I’m glad the woody, pulpy notes reminiscent of books and rulers make up the bulk of this fragrance, really completing the theme. Plus that list of base materials is built for longevity. Great review.

    I’m in the USA.

  • I like the sort of dark academia serious influence of an authoritative woman vibes this is giving off. A rose surrounded with spice, labdanum, and patchouli is always welcome in my wardrobe. I would love to wear this story. In US.

Thanks for the nice review Sandi.

It seems to me that this fragrance also has a slight witchy vibe to it. I really like the fruity grape top notes, that harmonize so well with the clove bud and the paper and ruler accords. Lots of warmth in the base with the ambery accord.

I do appreciate that this is a quieter fragrance.

    Cheers from WI, USA
