It seems that summer has passed by so quickly. Have any of you had this same feeling? As the crisp fall air descends upon us in the Northern Hemisphere (the autumn equinox begins September 22nd 8:44 a.m. EST ), there is a sense of magic and change. The changing leaves and cool breezes beckon us to embrace the beauty of the autumnal season. We are approaching a time of change. Are you ready for it? The autumn equinox is significant in various spiritual and religious practices, symbolizing themes of transition, letting go, balance, reflection, and embracing change. It’s a time to connect with nature, appreciate the beauty of the changing foliage, and prepare for the cooler months ahead. It is a time that we consciously link our awareness to the cycles of nature and our understanding of our own, a time to activate our new growth cycle.

As the seasons shift and the air grows crisp with the promise of autumn’s arrival, I am inspired to share a fragrance that embodies the essence of indulgence and sensory exploration. Allow me to introduce Solstice Scents Black Forest. This captivating olfactory journey uniquely combines the decadent allure of a celebrated dessert, the Black Forest cake, with the mystique of the enchanting woods of the Black Forest region in Germany. Black Forest is an alluring duality of gourmand and incense, weaving a tapestry of contrasting elements to create an enigmatic and enticing journey.

With the first spritz, Solstice Scents Black Forest bursts to life with the luscious aroma of Black Forest cake. The rich decadence of chocolate, the sumptuous tartness and sweetness of cherry, and the luxurious hint of sweet, creamy whipped cream beckon the senses. This initial burst of gourmand opulence sets the stage for a journey that delves deeper into layers of complexity and contrast.

As Solstice Scents Black Forest unfolds, the scent seamlessly transitions, gradually weaving in the majestic essence of the Black Forest itself. The smoky allure of tobacco emerges, leading to an exploration into the heart of the forest, where aged trees and ancient mysteries intertwine. The robust and earthy presence of agarwood and nagarmotha (cypriol) captures the very essence of the dark and enigmatic woods, evoking the sense of venturing into a realm of timeless intrigue and natural splendor.

Amidst this arboreal tapestry, the subtle sweetness of cherry and the delicate richness of sandalwood create a harmonious dance, inviting me to embrace the indulgent gourmand notes’ coexistence with the forest’s evocative essence. This transition from the initial embrace of Black Forest cake to the enveloping aroma of the woodlands mirrors a transformative journey, where the familiar gives way to the mysterious and the enchanting, inviting you to embark on a journey of discovery.

The evolution the perfume is further enriched by the gentle interplay of hay and pink pepper, infusing the composition with a rustic charm and a subtle spiciness that mirrors the intricate nuances of flavors and aromas present in the Black Forest cake while simultaneously alluding to the untamed beauty of the forest.

  • This review by Sandi is absolutely captivating! I would never have thought you could blend the richness of a Black Forest cake with the deep, smoky mystery of an ancient woodland in a perfume. The way she describes the transition from sweet cherries and chocolate to earthy agarwood and tobacco sounds like such a unique journey. I haven’t tried Solstice Scents before, but this definitely sparks my curiosity! It feels like an invitation to experience both indulgence and nature in one bottle—definitely adding this to my must-try list for fall.

  • I love Solstice Scents – my favorite is Manor. I don’t own any full sizes but I’ve enjoyed the samples I’ve received from SS.
I am struck by the chocolate note – seems perfectly Halloweeny to me!

  • I don’t know about you, but after reading the description of Black Forest Cake everything else after this was a blur lol Now I am very hungry But on a serious note, it is hard to imagine how one could mix such opposite moods happy, edible, sweet, with dark, and gloomy forest vibe. I would love to try this, of course, I have never tried anything by Solstice Scents.
    Thank you!

  • Thanks for the lovely writeup!

This certainly sounds like such an interesting gourmand. Using Agarwood, Nagarmontha EO and Tobacco absolute is a nice idea to complement the cherry notes and the nice cocoa and whipped cream.

    Interested in sampling this.

  • I have not tried any Solstice Scents yet, but I have heard of them before as a beautiful indie house. Black Forest sounds delicious and magical, with its deep woody, chocolate, and cherry notes. I am in the USA.

  • Wow! I just discovered Solstice Scents after becoming a fan of Desert Thunderstorm while searching for a desert scent this year. I would love to try this Black Forest scent as I love the idea of this dark cherry cake with these earthy autumnal elements! It sounds divine. Thanks for the draw!

I was intrigued by the influence of Black Forest cake which happens to be my favorite ever since living in Germany for 2 years back in the 90’s.
I have never tried Solstice Scents before but hope to.

  • What stood out to me from this article was the way Solstice Scents Black Forest blends the richness of Black Forest cake with the deep, smoky allure of the forest. The combination of chocolate, cherries, and whipped cream with the earthy notes of tobacco, agarwood, and nagarmotha creates a journey from indulgence to mystery. I love how this fragrance captures the spirit of fall—the transition from warmth to the cool, crisp air, just like how the perfume evolves from sweet to woody. It feels like the perfect scent for the season.

  • Summer has passed by quickly, but I’m ready for cooler weather, autumnal activities, and heavier fragrances. This Solstice Scents play on “Black Forest” is a surprising combination of gourmand elements with tobacco, woods and incense. I would never have thought the tart cherry and sweet chocolate of Black Forest cake would play off such dark, woody materials, but the “gentle interplay of hay and pink pepper” might be doing some work here to bridge the gap. I’d love to try this.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any Solstice Scents fragrances yet.

  • This sounds dark, rich, and hypnotic. The opening of agarwood catches my interest at first then the mid goes deep and sweeter elements come into play. Then it has the whipped cream effect coming in towards the base rounding off the composition. This has a little bit of everything you want and nothing sounds out of place or unrecognizable. Would love to own this bad boy. From Jacksonville, NC.

  • I have tried a few of their fragrances and they are all intriguing! But I have not tried this one. I would love to try an agarwood dark cherry chocolate. The possibilities seem endless. Add in some warm sandalwood EO and bright Cypriol and it’s gets even more interesting. Thank you for the giveaway I am in California.

I have never tried Solstice scents before but I know they are constantly being raved about for their amazing out of the box scents that smell amazing. A chocolate/cherry combination is very intriguing.

I love Solstice Scents! Their fragrances truly convey a strong sense of place. I especially love Desert Thunderstorm and Tropical Moon. Black Forest interests me because it first suggests the cake in all its gourmand opulence. Then it transitions to the forest. This is a brilliant tapestry. This is truly an immersive scent.
