When you think of If you think Penhaligon's Bluebell is a mumsy floral fragrance worn by, well, your mum, think again. During the upcoming London Fashion Week, the British indie design team Meadham-Kirchhoff, known for their irreverant and unpredictable style, has chosen this classic floral to scent their Spring/Summer 2011 collection, including models, the pieces, the catwalk and the stage.
According to the Penhaligon press release, "Bluebell was created in 1978, this is the pure and unadulterated distillation of the scent of bluebell woods. The telltale earthy sweetness of hyacinths rises through the soft citrus Head Notes and mingles with rose, lily and jasmine at the heart. As it settles the flowers give way to spicy clove and cinnamon and the unique textural base note of bittersweet galbanum".
Perfumers have scented public ambiences such as operas, theaters, dance stages and even the fountains of Versailles; we hope that scenting catwalks will bring something lost from fashion over the past generation, when a designer's name on the bottle meant more than signing a licensing contract.
