“…Try to remember when life was so tender

When no one wept except the willow.

Try to remember when life was so tender

When dreams were kept beside your pillow.

Try to remember when life was so tender

When love was an ember about to billow.

Try to remember and if you remember, then follow…”– “Try to Remember “ from The Fantastiks by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt.

For Fall 2019, perfumer Sarah Horowitz -Thran has distilled her childhood memories of autumn, the fun and wonder of fallen leaves, apple picking and crackling fires, into a mellow, magical and nostalgic new fragrance – Sarah Horowitz Parfums Embers.

Deep, rich and smoky, Embers weaves a spell of recollections; olfactory images of late harvests, fallen leaves and blustery evenings with friends and family cuddled safe and warm by the fireside.  Sarah Horowitz Parfums Embers is a scent of comfort and remembrance, the perfect antidote to what has been, for many of us, a long and difficult year.

Opening with crunchy, slightly tart apples and the shimmer of pink pepper, the sweet crispness of fruit is soon blurred by hazy billows of faint smoke and cinnamon. Like a cup of steaming hot, spiced cider on a dark, stormy night, the effect is at once seductive and soothing.  Embers sparks and glows with Cade, fresh, green rosewood and dark golden amber.  The perfumer’s fascination with base notes is evident in her deft and subtle handling of the amber, benzoin and the smoke accord.  As Sarah Horowitz Parfums Embers diffuses and dries down, I can feel the scent igniting, bursting a second time into fruit and flame.

For more than twenty-four hours I am surrounded by luminous scented moments, soothed and comforted by dreams and pleasures of times gone by. I can almost hear the tender and peaceful memories of hearth and home, singing to me once again though the artistry of Banq de Parfum Embers.

Notes:  Macintosh apple, cinnamon, rosewood, amber, benzoin, Cade, pink pepper and smoke accord.

Disclaimer:  I would like to thank Sarah Horowitz Parfums for my cherished bottle of Embers and for the many heartfelt and haunting memories that Embers recalls. My opinions are my own.

  • This fragrance sound amazing. I love apple and smokey fragrances they are my favorite and this fragrance sounds like it would.be my new fall favorite. USA

  • Everything about this fragrance sounds amazing. Fall – the apples, the smoke… I grew up on a farm with apple orchards so just thinking about it brings back so many memories!

  • Firstly, I love scents that give off a fiery scent. It is also a bonus when it is evident that something sweet has been burning within the fire. And the fact that this is a scent that evokes memories of days gone by further reveals that the scent is a comforting, smooth, and well-blended one. Just lovely. (Commenting from USA)

Apple, cinnamon, smoke and other great scents? Sounds incredible and would love to win it.

Dreams and pleasures of times gone by….
Embers sound like a soul-moving fragrance in this lovely review. EU based.

  • You had me at “rich and smoky.” Thank you CaFleureBon for introducing this brand to me. Would love to check this out. Regards from Boston, USA

  • Gail. Beyond words. You had no idea how much you captured in your review. That you opened this quote with the lyrics of my fathers favorite song from the favorite play of my childhood is more than profound; it is almost eerie. I opened this review, and burst into tears as I began to read it. That this fragrance took you to that song – it actually TOOK you to my childhood. I am speechless; truly – that is MAGIC. Thank you!

  • I loved the imagery and the hauntingly beautiful photographs and art work of Gail’s I can feel this fragrance from the description. Comforting scents would be lovely. Thank you for the review and thank you for the generous draw. I’m in the USA.

Fall is my favorite time of year… I think I have mentioned that before, but it really is. All of the beautiful colors of the landscape, the chill in the air, bonfires, falling leaves…. all of it! I just love the fall time. When I saw this, it really made me think of the fragrances in my collection. I have well over 200 fragrances and most of them are fall or winter scents, if you will. I think Gail summed up perfectly, for me anyway, the quintessential Autumn season! I could literally quote her entire article on Embers and it would be exactly how I feel about my favorite time of year! I am so glad that fall has finally arrived! (If it would start feeling like fall, that would be great, lol!) Every fall since I was young(er), my family rents out all of the cabins at a local state park and we usually have one big party for the weekend. My father’s birthday is November 1st, so we have a bunch of friends get together and throw a big bash for him every year. The cabins are in the woods and it is just a great time for everyone. We have hot apple cider (some may be spiked) in the crockpot and bonfires at several of the campsites going all day long! We sit around talking with one another, go to Pumpkin Chunkin’ (a Delaware thing), listen to music, go on nature walks, and just enjoy the company of others! The fun doesn’t stop until Sunday when it is time to go. This is what fall is to me…. Being in nature with good friends, family, cider, bonfires, celebrating life! Embers sounds so enticing and like a fragrance that was made just for me! This would definitely be something I would have to wear to the cabins, and all year for that matter, to remind me of the awesome times we have! I have not been able to try any of Sarah’s work (yet), but I have read nothing but fantastic reviews and articles on her superb scents! Embers sounds like a real winner! Thank you Gail, for the awesome write-up! It made my day! Thank you Sarah, for your generosity, and team CaFleureBon for this draw. I hope you all have a fantastic, fragrant fall season! I live in Delaware, US.

  • I enjoyed the comparison of Embers to a cup of steaming hot, spiced cider. Thanks for another fabulous draw! USA

  • This review makes me think that this is an apple fragrance that doesnt throw the door open and tell, “HI EVERYONE; IT’S APPLE.” My favorite fall memory is walking through an arboretum at the height of fall, back when the colors were nicer on Long Island. I live in the USA.

  • Fall is my favorite season and Embers seems to encapsulate it. I love Gail’s description of the fragrance as a cup of steaming hot spiced cider on a dark, stormy night. I’ve tried several DSH fragrances and think she’s a genius. I’m in the US

  • I love this fall scent. It reminds me of cocktails with Mescal, that woody, smoky flavor. I like to also blend it with my clean base note.

  • Sounds lovely, I love to smell like spiced cider and smoke! Just like sipping a hot one by the fire!

    USA here

  • Smoke and apples has my attention! My favorite fall memory is always a nice hike at the peak of the leaves changing. USA

  • “I can feel the scent igniting, bursting a second time into fruit and flame” is enticing enough, I would say. .USA

  • I would be curious to see how tart apples come together with warmer notes such as amber and benzoin. My favorite fall memories are during the foliage at Walden Pond in Massachusetts. I have never tried Sarah’s creations and I appreciate the opportunity to win. I live in the USA.

  • Dubaiscents says:

This sounds like just my type of scent because I love all of the wonderful aspects of autumn, especially now that I’m back in New England where we have such gorgeous fall weather and the joys of a fire and fresh apples. I loved Sarah’s Perfect Coconut but I don’t think I’ve had a chance to try others. This one sounds perfect. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I love autumn. I live in apple country so this might be perfect for me. Often the smoky note is too much for me, but Gail said she used a subtle hand. I’d love to try this. I have still not smelled anything from this line. Only for the reason that I do more perfume shopping in person. I am sad for the people that have had a long and difficult year, my year was perfect except for one very bad month. My favorite fall memory was we drove to “Apple Valley” every fall with my parents and brother. Brought home boxes of apples, ate apple pie, went to the petting zoo and had my only caramel apple of the year. I believe the real town is Oak Glen California. Thanks for the chance. USA

  • AlwaysWater says:

Sounds incredible! I too have a fascination for the base notes, and the lingering nostalgic scents of fall. My family went apple picking several times in my childhood for halloween, so it is doubly poignant to me. USA

  • Ernestine A Puckey says:

I love spice and smoke so this fragrance intrigues me. In the past I have worn ” Perfect Veil ” and another Banq ” Coeur de Sang “.Both are lovely.

  • The bracing, smokey essence of cade can be polarizing, but I love it and wish it found its way into more fragrances on the market. I love earthy scents for their grounding qualities, and my curiosity about this one is definitely piqued.

  • wallygator88 says:

I enjoyed the picture of fall the Gail portrayed with her review. it symbolized everything that I’ve come to love about this weather – cool weather, apple and pumpkin delights, the failing sun and the warmth of campfires.

I haven’t had a chance to sniff a Sarah Horowitz scent before – hence no favorites. My favorite fall memory is walking among the trees at Devil’s Lake State Park and Prewitt’s nest, once the leaves have changed color.

    Love from Madison, WI

  • What appeals to me about Embers is first of all the notes sound wonderful. Second it sounds nostalgic as I have lived near an apple orchard and the part in the review about drinking hot cider resonates with me. I have not tried any fragrances from this house yet unfortunately but am glad for the chance. A favorite fall memory is just trick or treating with my 2 brothers and friends staying out as long as we could and the fun we would have as well as the tradition of all of us going back to my parents house for spaghetti and meatballs on Halloween. That brought back memories lol. In the U.S. Thank you for the generous draw.

  • Embers sounds so beautiful and perfect for Fall! I haven’t tried a fragrance with an apple accord but I love smoke and cinnamon. The list of notes reminds me of my mother-in-law’s baked apples at holiday time. I like Gail’s thoughts on Embers reminding here of warm memories as well. I would love to experience it. Sarah’s Gardenia Body Creme is my favorite. I used to have a Gardenia bush that was under a window in my kitchen. When I opened the windows in Spring, it would send it’s soft scent into my kitchen. I sorely miss that. Thank you for the giveaway and the review. In the USA.

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

Recently I’ve ventured into the world of smoke-tinged scents and found several I really like, and that this scent has a gourmand entry adds to its appeal. Perfect Veil is my favorite from this house and will always be a staple on my perfume shelf. Thank you for this chance, I live in the US.

  • What appeals to me is the aspect of invoking places and situations, memories to be remembered and invoked every time you wear this.

  • redwheelbarrow says:

This sounds so perfect for this time of year. I love the scent of Macintosh apples. Fall memories for me often include baking pies with my mother and grandmother so I am drawn to apple, cinnamon, and cardamom scents this time of year. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US

  • Bryant Worley says:

What I liked about the review is the imagery that was expressed which, if properly viewed, would put someone in the correct mindset (crunchy green apples, shimmer of pink pepper, billows of faint smoke and cinnamon, followed by spiced cider) Being from Brooklyn, New York myself (concrete jungle part) all I can remember is leaves changing colors in the Fall. Unfortunately, I’ve never experienced any other fragrances from this line, but I want to experience this.

  • doveskylark says:

I’d love to wear this while sitting around the first fire my dad lights in the fireplace. I often have mixed feelings about fall; it makes me melancholy. But I sometimes think that’s a good thing. I love apples and pears, so that’s always a sweet hope for the season.
    I live in the USA.

  • i love fall, with the juxtaposition of clear blue skies and orange and brown leaves, and the hint of chill in the air. even better when you get a woodsmoke smell, so you know winter is coming. Based on Gail’s description, i would love to try this scent to see if Sarah has bottled my favorite memory of fall. in hte US

  • Thank you Gail for another wonderful review and the giveaway. The poetry and the imagery are captivating and I’d love to try Embers since I’ve not yet tried any of Sarah Horowitz’s creations but have only ready good things about them on Cafleurebon. I’m in USA

  • Very nice review, Gail! What appeals to me most about Embers are the fragrance notes (particularly the apple, cinnamon, and rosewood), and the fact that it would be such a great scent to wear in Fall and Winter. My favorite fall memory would be going exploring in the woods with friends from childhood. Thanks for the amazing draw!

  • Oh, this sounds like another wonderful Fall scent with that gorgeous combination of apple, cinnamon and smoke. I love Sarah Horowitz fragrances. My most current favorite is The Now.
    I live in the USA.

  • I love this one because it…”weaves a spell of recollections.” A scent of comfort and remembrance. Embers sounds like the perfect fragrance for Fall.
I got married in Fall six years ago and it’s best memory for me.

  • Thanks for another great review, Gail! I love Sarah Horowitz fragrances and my favorite is The Now. This is what I liked best about your description – ‘Embers is a scent of comfort and remembrance, the perfect antidote to what has been, for many of us, a long and difficult year.’ Thanks for this draw. – CA, USA

  • I love autumn! Embers sounds evocative of the season.
I spend much of the year in the tropics now and miss watching the leaves change color as I did as a child. (I’m glad I no longer have to rake them though!) The perfume sounds very interesting. Thank you for the opportunity.

  • Sunny Chaudhary says:

Everything about this fragrance sounds amazing. Fall – the apples, the smoke (let me tell you i love smokey notes in fragrances).

The way Gail described it, I was feeling that I am there sniffing this beautiful fragrance. It’s like good ole days, Dreams and pleasures of times gone by.

Would surely love to win this.

    I am in USA

  • OH wow. soothing, comforting, autumn fruit, smoke and spices. This sounds like a perfect scent. One favorite fall memory is traveling from Pennsylvania to Asheville, North Carolina in November each year. We would spend a couple of days there buying Christmas presents for all of our friends and family. The drive was so beautiful at that time of year. USA

  • Apples in the Smokey Fall sounds nice. Been hearing good of Sarah Horowitz fragrances and hope to try them one day. Thanks, Ca

  • patrick_348 says:

I love the way the description of Embers makes it sound beautifully balanced between things that parts of fall that seem alive (like fresh apples) and those that suggest the winding down of greenery and freshness (like smoke). I don’t know Sarah Horowitz’s scents but this makes me want to know them. My favorite fall memory involves marching in high school, in the marching band, in a fall parade. I am in the US.

  • Wow this sounds amazing! I love that this was inspired by the season of Autumn which is my favorite season. Smoky apple, cinnamon, amber and pink pepper sounds fantastic. This sounds like the type of fragrance that will evoke great memories for me. USA.

  • Oh my goodness, the smoky amber combined with apple, cinnamon, and pink pepper sounds so evocative and perfect for fall. I also love that it lasts for more than 24 hours- that is no small feat! I have never tried anything from Sarah Horowitz Parfums and would love for Ember to be the first. A favorite fall memory of mine is visiting the pumpkin patch with my little sisters and picking out pumpkins while drinking hot apple cider and eating cider doughnuts. I am in the US 🙂

  • Michael Prince says:

Gail, great review of Sarah Horowitz Parfums Embers. Based on this review this may be my favorite Sarah Horowitz fragrance with the apple, cinnamon, and smoke notes it sounds perfect for fall. I am from the USA.

  • I like the idea of smoky notes blending with the fruit and cinnamon. This sounds like a great way to transition into fall weather. I live in the USA.

  • I have never tried her work before but this sounds good. I love the inspiration of fall and apple picking. I appriciate smoke in fragrances and glad this one uses it and brings fortb memories of fall. Great review and thanks as always for the giveaway.

  • Fall is my favorite season, and getting to wear autumnal scents is one of its small pleasures. I love smoky scents, and this one sounds divine. I’m in the US.

  • Would love to try Embers, I have not sampled any of Sarah’s fragrances. The pictures and words by Gail are so descriptive, I am feeling fall! Thank you for the chance to win. USA

  • LORI Jeselle LAWS says:
