I’m always excited when Rubini Profumi launches a new perfume launch (launch being the operative word), as Hyperion takes you into space! It’s a beautiful perfume of contrasts with a huge blast of peppery spices before leaving you in a soft smoky woody dry incense haze that sparkles like new ideas. Wearing Hyperion from its opening through to its dry down reminds me of Christopher Nolan’s space epic Interstellar, it’s a wild ride from earth through time into endless space. This is another beautiful wild perfume by perfumer Cristiano Canali. Rubini is always pushing the boundaries and staying at the forefront of perfumery.

Hyperion’s opening always takes my breath away, a kiss of tart yuzu with aromatic pines, shimmers with balsamic glints of glassy cool aromatic juniper and pine fresh greens that swirls with a watery cool incense feeling as if all of nature is held with in this smoke. It’s like inhaling the air in a forest way up a mountain, feeling that freshness fill you up while remembering that all oceans started as mountains before the world divided. A beautiful bending of time through perfume dreaming in nature, Rubini Profumi Hyperion is a beautiful escape with a meditative edge as a bone-dry woody incense smoke wraps around you with a soft whisper of abstract florals pulling the full opening back into a more focused structure. The peppery notes have this delightfully prickly feel as if you’re gently creasing a fir tree or rather a futuristic tree as Hyperion has a mineralic metallic verticality running through it. Hyperion’s Supernova peppers start to build in a wild way. Swirls of tart grapefruit citruses feel super fresh and also aquatic with a bright spiced warmth from Supernova pepper accord, Hyperion citrus spice is making me think of Timur pepper which I know is a material that Cristiano Canali has used regularly in the past.

It’s this fiery spice that sends Hyperion into space, pushing you through the dry pine trees out of the Zen Forest and takes you deep to space where its spices sparkle like stars. This Supernova pepper accord conjures the stars and moon in Hyperion, it’s fresh citruses feel like you’re swimming in a pale-yellow moonlight as those super diffusive spices feel like rocket fuel full of a bright wild Szechuan heat. It feels huge around you, but Cristiano Canali sculpts its facets to soften and round out some of the wilder edges, as if space is wrapping around you as you leave the earth behind. Again, scenes form Interstellar pop into my head smelling this, along with the beautiful promo video produced for Rubini Profumi Hyperion directed by Andrei Purcārea, the concept and perfume are captured beautifully, while leaving you space to dream.

The rocket fuel of the pepper softens  and Hyperion mellows into a softer woody resinous balsamic smoke that suspends you in a musky haze feeling like the endless expanse of space. It’s beautifully complex with a solar system of notes are hidden in this dry woody ambery smoky haze. The Supernova pepper accord shifts from the moon being atomised and now feels like the Milky Way. It’s peppery stars sparkling in a softer way its salty sour facets tease the last out of the citruses. There’s a subtle animalic dankness with the salt, its darkness makes the stars shine brighter. A luxurious use of tinctured ambergris, purring with a dark sweetness lost in the salty skin scent as if you have been laying out in the sun post swim.

Green aromatics add beautiful shades of fresh and dank to this spiced woody cloud, letting the balsamic resins keep that vertical feel moving forward, albeit at a slower more meditative place. You feel like you’re floating in this dark peppered musky haze yet there’s a comforting feel from the incense of the opening. Memories of forests seem to be stretched through time as if pulled and stretched through a black hole, feeling dry and stark with patchouli whispering of the earth. Hyperion feels like the scene in Interstellar as Mathew McConaughey floats through time after passing through the Rosen Bridge, Hyperion again bends time making it feel like our right back on earth even though you feel like you’ve been blasted in to space by that stunning pepper spice. There’s a comforting feeling from the incense that plays beautifully as a counter point to the Supernova peppers wild energy and edge. Rubini Profumi Hyperion captures that beautiful sensation of a wild dream that shifts into deep contemplation, its two sides, one of calm and the other excitement, make it a perfume that’s addictive to wear.

Notes: Yuzu, Juniper JE, Supernova Peppers, Olibanum, Ylang, Himalayan Cedar, Patchouli, Ambergris Tincture, Cosmic Ambers, Deep Space.

  • this sounds like a ride through the cosmos! I’m really drawn to how J describes the peppery notes in Hyperion—the whole “Supernova pepper” concept is so intriguing. It feels like it’s not just a fragrance, but a journey, starting with that sharp yuzu burst and then soaring into this smoky, spacey vibe. Definitely want to see how that “wild energy and calm” balance out on my skin. Rubini really knows how to make a fragrance feel like an experience.

Okay, I need this one! I love the contrast J describes—pepper, woods, and that incense-y feeling all in one bottle? Yes please! The idea of it being like Interstellar in perfume form is mind-blowing. The description of the spices feeling like rocket fuel and then shifting into a soft, musky haze makes me think this will be a wild, yet grounded scent. Definitely a fragrance to think about as it evolves.

I’m really intrigued by the idea of Hyperion feeling like it takes you from Earth into space—J’s comparison to Interstellar is spot on! The whole “peppery explosion into space” and then mellowing into that warm, resinous finish sounds fascinating. The use of ambergris sounds like it’ll add a luxurious depth to it. It’s not your typical perfume, and that’s what I love about Rubini—always pushing boundaries.

The imagery J paints for Hyperion is so captivating! The thought of the fragrance starting with a fresh, crisp feeling from yuzu and juniper, then blasting off into the peppery, spicy notes of space is giving me chills. I’m also super into how it sounds like it has this “space-like” stillness, with a calming incense playing off the pepper—seems like it would be perfect for someone who loves bold but contemplative scents. Definitely one for the collection.

Reading about Hyperion’s peppery “Supernova” and the whole space theme really grabbed my attention. I love that Rubini’s creations don’t just smell good, they make you feel something, like you’re experiencing something beyond just fragrance. The mix of fresh citrus with smoky, resinous wood gives it this huge dynamic that I bet is incredible on skin. I’m sold on the concept of “floating in a dark peppered musky haze.” Sounds like something I’d want to wear every day.

I know and admire the work of the perfumer Cristiano Canali for other brands such as Zoologist and Artimique. Also for Rubini – I have the Odenaturae perfume and it is an outstanding green scent. I would be happy to try other creations from this interesting brand which is hard to find in my location.

Hyperion sounds like a meditative spicy perfume with peppery and smoky aspects. I have watched Interstellar in a cinema and it is one of the most memorable sci-fi movies. I like the comparisson in J’s review.

  • I love how SF- oriented this perfume is! Supernova peppers, cosmic amber and deep space are notes I really wanna smell!!
The musky, peppery incense that J describes, enveloped in resins and “memories of forests” all sound very grounding and pleasant and I’m curious about the blend of the modern / cosmic goal and what seems to be a very pleasant, balanced and wearable fragrance.
    Thanks from the EU.

Freaking space note, so cool. And woody. The contrast of wild Supernova Peppers and the meditative depth of incense and patchouli feels like floating between dimensions—exhilarating yet grounding. I’d love to win this perfume because it captures that delicate balance between chaos and serenity, making it an addictive, otherworldly experience. A scent like this isn’t just worn—it’s lived.im from eu

  • The combination of Juniper, Ambergris, Olibanum and Ylang-Ylang sounds really, really intriguing. These notes seem so distant from each other, like they are matter and antimatter. I would love to get my nose on this one from Rubini. Thanks! Europe

This is so exciting! I cannot participate in the giveaway sadly (I’m in the US) but I will get my hands on some samples form this brand. I have only heard good things about Rubini fragrances and this one being in some sense space-themed is right up my alley !

  • scenternet says:

This review completely transported me! The way Hyperion is described as a journey from the earth into deep space, carried by that fiery Supernova pepper, is incredible. I love how the fragrance plays with contrasts—sharp, electrified citrus and spice against a vast, resinous, smoky dry down. The comparison to Interstellar really resonates; it feels like this perfume doesn’t just evolve on the skin but takes you on a cinematic ride through time and space. Rubini always pushes boundaries, but this one sounds like a whole new level of bold, conceptual perfumery. Now I just need to experience that Supernova pepper launch for myself!

  • What struck me most about J’s review of Hyperion is the powerful contrast between the fiery, explosive pepper opening and the calm, meditative, smoky drydown. The description of the Supernova Pepper accord sounds mesmerizing—like a burst of light and spice that launches you into a cosmic olfactory journey. I love the idea of a perfume that can evoke both the thrill of space travel and the serenity of floating in a forest-scented dream. I live in Romania Europe, and I would love the chance to experience this bold and poetic fragrance for myself.

  • I’m in love with Rubini’s perfumes and proud owner of Tambour Sacrè and Odenatureae.
The idea behind the brand is incredible and Cristiano is really a top-nose.

  • J’s description of Hyperion is absolutely mesmerizing! I love the idea of it starting off with that bright, zesty kick from yuzu and juniper, then launching into those bold, spicy pepper notes. The way it’s described as having a quiet, space-like calm with smooth incense balancing the spice really speaks to me. It sounds like an amazing scent for someone who enjoys something strong but also thoughtful and meditative.
    Thak you, From EU.

  • Like J I’m always excited about new Rubini perfumes. They are so artistic and really evoke a scene. Hyperion sounds a bit mad, but also inspired. Would love to smell an interpretation of a space adventure. Marit EU
