Prosody London Santal Foy (Kershen Teo) 2023+ Profound Joy Giveaway

Prosody London Santal Foy

Prosody London Santal Foy by Karl.

The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.” Charles Dickens.

Prosody London Santal Foy is the newest release by owner, founder, and all botanical perfumer Kershen Teo. Shortlisted for the Fragrance Foundation UK People’s Choice Award 2023, this perfume is a distinct change of direction for the brand. The aesthetics of the cap been transformed to a new zinc alloy compound and the bottle comes presented within a burgundy box. The scent itself is an intriguing blend of smooth and lactonic notes wrapped in a ‘peace and love’ accord of sandalwood, tonka bean and orange blossom. The idea of Prosody Santal Foy is built upon long-lasting friendships and adoration.

For me the effect is most specific and nostalgic, memories of time spent sipping English Breakfast tea and taking carrot cake with loved ones comes to the fore. Back in time I used to frequent garden centres with my parents and Prosody London Santal Foy takes me directly to such afternoons spent in the café areas whilst relaxing and chatting over weekly events. It is a smooth fragrance initially rich which transforms into radiant happy experience.

The opening is smooth with hints of coconut sprinkled on frosted icing atop the carrot cake and there is a butter cream centre which is rich and inviting. I found the beginning of Santal Foy to be very powerful, once it dries down the carrot seed becomes more earthy and the tonka and myrrh develops into a cloak of sensuality. The perfume seems to warm up and lighten become more intriguing and less obvious from a gourmand perspective. The thick creamier elements seem to disperse, and a milky sheen coats the composition of Santal Foy.

The heart is listed as a ‘floral leather’ accord which to me is more of a soft rose come suede sensation. The tonka bean is pronounced and works well with the coconut still evident from the top. There is a hint of spice to bring a little complexity and nuance to the wearing experience. Hours into Prosody London Santal Foy the orange blossom and vanilla take the perfume to sweeter realms once again burnished with soft woods of vetiver and sandalwood which to me add a calming effect. The lifecycle of Santal Foy on my skin is around six hours which is decent for a natural perfume.

Notes: coconut, carrot seed, rose, tonka bean, myrrh, vetiver, sandalwood, orange blossom, vanilla.

  • Thanks for the article Karl!

I loved reading your review about Oud Octavo and the best potential of Oud.
Santal Foy sounds like the best potential of a Gourmand to me! Coconut, Carrot Cake. I cannot describe how much I love the idea of this. And so does my partner!

I have a sample of Oud Octavo which has lasted me for a while. A fantastic fresh Oud fragrance that I am enjoying in the milder Spring weather.

    Greetings from the UK!

  • I love the sound of all these notes. The only worry would be that I’d want to bite my arm with these delicious scents.
    California USA

  • What a gorgeous notes list! I am a fan of all things gourmand, rich and decadent and can tell Santal Foy would be right up my alley.
Should I be lucky enough to win, this would be my first time sampling the works of Prosody London.

  • I have to admit that this is the first time that I read something about Prosody perfumes, but I am totally in love awith Santal Foy from this reviewa.

  • Karl’s description makes Prosody London Santal Foy sound interestingly complex and really appealing, especially in evoking fond memories of tea and carrot cake with loved ones while also mentioning floral leather and soft rose suede accords. I would love to try this one, as I’ve read some Facebook fragrance group members rave about Prosody London in the recent past. I’m in the U.S. Thank you!

  • That sounds lovely! I’m a huge fan of myrrh…and its use here sounds intriguingly delicious. I’ve heard of, but haven’t tried, Prosody Perfumes. Santal Foy sounds like a fine place to start. I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

I have heard of this brand but never tried it, I didn’t even know it was an all natural brand. I just spotted the bottles in the collection of someone with impeccable taste, so I figured it must be good 🙂
Orange blossom + sandalwood seems to be a winning combination.

  • I really enjoyed reading over the notes present in this fragrance, and the gourmand opening and am quite interested in the shift into a “floral leather” as described as by Karl. This is my first time hearing about this perfume house, but I’m excited to see what other fragrances alongside this one that they have. From TX, USA.

  • Skip the Dinner sounds like dessert to me. My favorite part of my meals. Butter cream carrot cake center. Gotta try this.

From the USA. Thanks for the interesting take.

Notes: coconut, carrot seed, rose, tonka bean, myrrh, vetiver, sandalwood, orange blossom, vanilla A wonderful description by Karl intrigued by the notes especially carrott seed, vetiver, sandalwood and myrrh. This is a house that I have got no experience with but I am intrigued by nonetheless. Thanks a million from the UK

This is a house that I have heard of but I have not tried anything from thusfar. Thanks a lot from the United Kingdom

I have not had much chance to sample gourmand fragrances, and this seems like an amazing fragrance to start with.

    I’m not familiar with Prosody.

  • John Madison says:

I love nothing more than a fragrance that begins as gourmand and ends in woody masterpiece. This sounds right up my ally ❤️

  • I am unfamiliar with Prosody perfumes, though as someone who likes natural perfumes this seems like a miss on my part! Santal Foy sounds absolutely delicious, and the note progression has me very interested. I love pure sandalwood oils with their softly lactonic notes, and am curious how the sweet notes of coconut, vanilla, and tonka play into that aspect. Best wishes from the US!

  • Tea and carrot cake scents are wonderful and I’d like to wear something like this. New Jersey, USA

  • I love the sound of the unusual combination of notes in Santal Foy! From the coconut opening to the rose and leather mid and the addition of carrot seed…I feel like I have to try this one to understand what it smells like! I’d love to win a bottle. So far I’ve only tried Jacinth Jonquil from the brand but I love it and am already planning to get a full bottle. I’m in MN, USA.

  • DanaDewDrop says:

This perfume sounds like the perfect antidote to a gloomy and cold Springtime! Would love to introduce the lingering snow mounds to this cloud of beauty.

  • Honestly the things coconut can do is really amazing. It brings a creamy warmth and longevity. And the rest of these notes are just lovely. I am certain this is a cozy easily loved fragrance! Nothing like an amazing carrot cake!
Thank you for the giveaway. In US

  • I love to smell gourmand fragrances, but I find it very difficult to wear, as I find most of them a bit nauseating. From the notes though, Santal Foy seems such a wearable gourmand fragrance, that I would really love to try, as Prosody is totally unknown to me. I live in CA, US

  • Amazing review! This sounds a perfect coconut fragrance! All the notes together… a masterpiece!!!! I’m from Massachusetts, US.

  • Santal Foy had me with the coconut and carrot seed combination… a hint of carrot cake is just too delightful to pass up, especially when it’s wrapped up in sophisticated floral leather accords. I was not previously familiar with Prosody London but I am glad to be introduced with this perfume. I’m in the USA, thank you for the draw!

  • Karl talking about carrot cake and English tea in his review of Prosody London Santal Foy sounds very relaxing and comforting. Not a big fan of gourmand perfumes, but the blend of sandalwood, rose, vetiver, myrrh, etc. seems very appealing. I am familiar with Prosody London from the reviews at Cafleurebon but haven’t tried their perfumes. Thanks for the review and draw. From USA.

  • johnmadison says:

In love with the idea of a gourmand that gorgeously settles to warm vanilla woods. Sounds heavenly and I am sure I would feel bliss wearing this beautiful fragrance!

  • Prosody London Santal Foy sounds like a delectable gourmand with a very interesting transition into a floral leather. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen carrot seed and coconut together in a fragrance, but the comparison to carrot cake makes total sense. I’ve never tried any Prosody London perfumes before but would love to sample some. MD, USA.

  • Santal Foy is an unusual take on sandalwood. The carrot cake aspect of this fragrance sounds a little sweet for me, but Karl’s description of the earthy carrot seed, tonka, and myrrh interaction is intriguing, especially with a bit of vetiver in the mix. Always impressive to see what contemporary perfumers are achieving with natural materials.

I’m in the USA. I haven’t tried any Prosody perfumes. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Gnossiennes says:

Thank you for the review, Karl. Prosody is new to me, but the rose suede accord on the sandalwood of Santal Joy has attracted me quite much. I bet it will be very cozy.

This sounds decadent yet serene…one I look forward to getting my nose on. I am not familiar with this house. However, after Karl’s article, I look forward to better familiarizing myself with this brand. Thank you for the introduction 🙂

I’ve been interested in trying something from Prosody London for a while now, but I haven’t had a chance to do so yet. I like the notes: sandalwood, tonka bean and orange blossom, and I’m interested to see how they’re used with each other as an accord. I like the other notes of “Santal Foy”, and I’m interested to see what this primarily natural fragrance is like. I live in the U.S.A.

  • I’ve really enjoyed the Prosody perfumes I’ve smelled so far and the combination of carrot seed and orange blossom with sandalwood sounds incredible. I’m in the UK

  • foreverscents says:

I love that there is a “peace and love”accord to Santal Foy. The floral leather accord in the heart sounds like a wonderful complement to the more gourmand aspects of the fragrance. I haven’t tried anything from Prosody London, but I have heard that it is one of the best natural perfume houses.
    I live in the USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the fun review Karl.

I’ve been reading a fair bit about this house on CFB. Always fascinates me that they are an all natural perfumer.

I like the notes in this even though I’m not a big fan of gourmands. It sounds elegant, restrained and well tempered by the use of vetiver and sandalwood.

I certainly would love to give them a try.

    Cheers from WI, USA
