Profumi di Pantelleria Joyann Review + Fragrant Island Draw

One of the joys of visiting the Italian perfume shows is discovering so many perfume ranges that may be difficult if not impossible to find in the States. The internet has certainly changed that for the better, and now worldwide brands are just a click or two away. Stumbling across Profumi di Pantelleria in Milan last April was sheer dumb luck, and as it turns out, a fortuitous meeting. Paying tribute to the natural beauty and flora of Pantelleria, a small Mediterranean island located in the Straight Of Sicily, Profumi di Pantelleria has been creating fragrances since the late 90’s, fragrances which capture the scents of Isla Pantelleria; the air, sea, earth, and flowering aromatics that engulf the island. Profumi di Pantelleria currently lists eight fragrances available, and there really is something for everyone. Since I personally love a good floral, I zeroed in on Profumi di Pantelleria Joyann,  new for 2018, a bright and joyous paen to the floral beauty of the island.

Named for a young woman’s name since ancient time, Joyann represents certain elegance and an uncommon lightness, with a distinct cheerful and bubbly character. Profumi di Pantelleria wanted to interpret this perfume to associate it with a flower. In nature white flowers such as jasmine offer this light purity with wonderful olfactory nuances. These lovely flowers exude an almost indescribable aroma over a miraculous freshness and infinite sweetness. A mysterious olfactive balance that has always seemed alluring and fascinating.” -Profumi di Pantelleria

Profumi di Pantelleria Joyann wastes no time plunging headfirst into white florals, with the narcissus and rose at the forefront backed by the sweetness and pithy bite of Sicilian Lemon. The feeling is one of diving off a boat into a cerulean and mirror-bright Mediterranean bay, ice-cold and refreshing on a hot August day. The land gives off aromatic heat shimmers rife with green herbal grassy nuances, and the blooming hedges and scrub sweeten the air. The touch of ambergris supplies a salty and sexual marine note, like the scent of sunbaked skin dipped in salt water. The cedar provides a forests’ shade at the edge of a gleaming beach, while the white musk creates the clean laundry scent of a starched white shirt at the end of an idyllic Mediterranean day. Notes: White Narcissus, White Rose, Wisteria, Sicilian Lemon, Jasmine, Patchouli, Vetiver, Cedar Wood, White Musk, Ambergris

  • This sounds absolutely amazing!!! Would love to experience this scent every day! I’m in California USA

  • I’ve never heard of this house before but i liked this short review. I would love to see a perfume inspired by the city of Firenze. Thanks for the chance , USA.

  • I had never heard of Isla Pantelleria or Profumi di Pantelleria until I read Robert’s review. I especially liked the way he describes the tastes of a hot day in the Mediterranean, like the sunbaked skin dipped in salt water. I would like to smell a fragrance that was inspired by something that no longer exists in Italy, the temple precincts of the Vestal Virgins: the sacred fire with it’s incensed smoke, the herbs and flowers used in their rites, the linen of their gowns.

  • Thanks for introducing me to another great brand. I enjoyed reading about Mediterranean bay. I’d like to experience a fragrance inspired by Mount Vesuvius……something warm and spicey. USA

  • This sounds like a really pretty and “wispy” scent. My grandparents are from Naples, so I’d love to have a fragrance inspired by Naples.
    I live in the USA.

  • This fragrance sounds beautiful. Just went to look at the website and honestly all of the fragrances sound amazing!!! Thanks for this draw. in the USA

  • Thanks for a great review, Robert! This is the first time I’m hearing this house and I love how Joyann was described- narcissus, rose, lemon, musk. Sounds like a lovely floral scent I’d love to get my nose on. Thanks Cafleurebon for this article! Ish , USA

  • Thank you for the short mental vacation. It was a relaxing trip :).
I agree with cressit. An ancient place that is no longer in existence. A fragrance that re-creates the sense of what it was like to be there at that time. Great idea.
    Fort Lauderdale, Fl

  • i had never heard of this house or the island of Pantelleria before I read this review. I love when I learn about new places from the world of fragrance. The ambergris note combined with the florals intrigues me.
I’d love to see a fragrance inspired by the fashion wold of Milan.
    I live in the USA.

  • I have not heard of this house before. I don’t own any perfumes from an Italian house. I am not a straight up floral lover, but since this has that “miraculous freshness”, it might be just something I could like. I will check their website since Robert says there is something for everyone. The ocean photo in this review makes me want to rewind summer! Sadly it is cool and cloudy here in WA state. I have never been to Italy, but a fragrance from a coffee shop/bakery might be nice. Thanks for the chance. US.

  • I also had not heard of this house previously, but upon investigating the company website it appears there are a few more that I would also like to sample, especially Tanit, Aire, Gunther, Jailia, and Pantelleria. However, it is unclear to me if one may order samples to be shipped to the US? I have not been to Italy and have limited knowledge of the country, but some of my very favorite fragrance houses are Italian. I should like to visit Venezia’s Piazza San Marco and that would be my inspiration for a fragrance–the shopping, the art galleries, the food, the experiences. Thank you to Profumi di Pantelleria for their generosity.

  • This fragrance sounds really nice!! I liked the review it made me wanna go on a vacay to ITALY, those italians know how to make fragrances, I also really enjoy a good floral lemon scent. I would love to win this!
I am in USA. Thank You

  • Ivan.napoleon says:

fragrances which capture the scents of Isla Pantelleria; the air, sea, earth, and flowering aromatics that engulf the island. Love this part.
    MIAMI Florida Thanks

  • New to the house. Enjoyed the line, “..indescribable aroma over a miraculous freshness and infinite sweetness”. US

  • I love beach scents like this one but I’d be interested in an Italian perfume that was inspired by the mountainous inland regions. Seems like most Italian perfumes are coastal based. I’m in usa

  • I enjoyed reading about the perfume. How he described it as “The feeling is one of diving off a boat into a cerulean and mirror-bright Mediterranean bay, ice-cold and refreshing on a hot August day.
The also like some of the notes especially patchouli.

    Rome sounds amazing

  • The description of white floral blended with lemon sounds heavenly! I would love to see a perfume inspired by Cortona. I’m in USA.

  • I enjoyed how each ingredient is described with a feeling of what he saw, not only can I compare the smell to the ingredients but to the feeling of the country. I have seen a painting Jean Santucci;”Scogli Porchetti” rocks at Punta Ala, Italy that could be an inspiration for a fragrance.

  • I enjoyed how he introduced me to this new house. I would like to have the inspiration of Naples – may be smelling like Pizza

    Cheers from New York

  • I so enjoyed the article and would love to see a fragrance inspired by Massa Lubrense, a small town outside of Sorrento. Sea air and great views of Capri! Thank you for the chance to win. I live in the US.

  • I have no experience with this brand thank you Robert Herrmann for bringing this brand to my attention, Robert’s review of this fragrance is very intriguing the smell of the beach in a fragrance sounds amazing. I would like to see a fragrance inspired by Marsala A small city located in the Province of Trapani. Virginia USA

  • Robert’s review was like taking a vacation to a lovely place and resting there quietly. I don’t know the house, but Joyann sounds beautifully tranquil yet exuberant. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the US

  • I love the attention to detail Robert gives his description of this Mediterranean beach and how all of the notes in the scent evoke this particular place. I’d love to see a fragrance inspired by the canals of Venice. Thank you for the draw I’m in the U.S.!

  • I like the photorealistic description of a Mediterranean coast as an aquatic fragrance. Laundry does smell different when its hung out to dry on a balcony near the beach. Nothing smells like it. Would love to try this.
As far as Italian locales as inspiration go, I cant think of anything which hasnt been done before. The Mediterranean is a host to beautiful smells.
    Im in the US. thanks

  • I loved the way Robert compared the different notes in the fragrance to skin, beach and laundry things that are known emough for many people to imagine what the scent evokes and smells similar too! I have never been to Italy so I don’t know what scent should be inspired by a part of Italy. I live in US.

  • I have not heard of this house, but the description of the island and perfume, that combination sounds wonderful! I think anywhere in Italy could inspire a scent, whether a small bakery in an out of the way alley in the morning, or sitting on a beach. white flowers and the sea does it for me, too! I live in the US.
