Penhaligon’s The Favourite Review (Aliénor Massenet) 2020 + Royal Bow Draw

“Sometimes a lady likes to have some fun” (Rachel Weisz as Lady Sarah in Yorgos Lanthimos’ 2018 film “The Favourite”)

A hundred and eighteen years after the creation of Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet (the company’s longest surviving fragrance, initially a bespoke scent for the Duke of Marlborough), the venerable British brand has just launched a new perfume that also pays tribute to the monumental Blenheim Palace; specifically to its very first mistress: Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1660-1744), also known as “The Favourite” for her close relationship to Anne, Queen of Great Britain. Beautiful and charismatic, outspoken and ambitious, but also often cantankerous and scheming, Sarah Churchill (née Jenyns) became a friend of the future Queen when the latter was still a child Princess. Their relationship grew stronger and deeper, as did Lady Sarah’s influence, especially after she became Duchess of Marlborough (through her marriage to distinguished soldier/statesman John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough). Letters between the two women reveal traces of intense feelings that have been interpreted by some as indication of possible sexual relations (the 2018 film “The Favourite” made this assumption the core of its intriguing, yet highly fictionalised, script). The fact remains that, for many years, the Duchess of Marlborough was exerting great influence over Queen Anne on both personal, and political level.

The increasingly stormy relationship between Queen and Duchess (the latter was said to be brutally honest to the former, while relentlessly promoting her political goals) eventually became too strained, resulting in Lady Sarah falling out of grace. Her formerly impoverished cousin, Abigail Hill (whom she had employed as a servant in the Royal Palace), became the Queen’s new Favourite, as well as a Baroness. As the Duchess of Marlborough felt her power slip away, she became increasingly desperate in her attempts to regain favour, plotting strategies to oust Abigail, threatening blackmail, and even stirring up rumours that the Queen’s relationship with Abigail was sexual.

It was while the Duchess was still the Queen’s Favourite that the Blenheim Palace began being built in Oxfordshire, on grounds gifted to the Duke of Marlborough by Queen Anne (who also partially funded its construction) for his notable military services to the nation. Following the final quarrel between the two women, the Marlboroughs went into exile until Queen Anne’s death. Blenheim Palace would be completed under the aegis of the Duchess of Marlborough herself, after her husband’s passing. An ultimate survivor, Sarah Churchill managed the estate and her late husband’s fortune brilliantly, and even had her memoirs published before she died at the age of eighty-four, getting the last word. Her lineage guaranteed a long-lasting legacy in British politics, with descendants such as Winston Churchill (a reported fan of Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet), and Princess Diana.

Penahaligon's The Favourite review

“The Duchess” (Linda Evangelista photographed by Steven Meisel for Vogue, 2008)©

Composed by perfumer Aliénor Massenet of Symrise, Penhaligon’s The Favourite reflects the charming, appealing, vivacious side of the woman it is inspired by. The fragrance opens with the juiciness of succulent citruses (bergamot, mandarin) and the green sweetness of airy freesias – a combination that carries the aromatic impression of enjoying a cup of tea in an English countryside garden. The fragrance is subsequently colored golden by the radiant mimosa, that adds its unique honey-esque, warm floralcy (supported by whiffs of non-indolic jasmine) to the composition, along with a hazy, powdery aura. The moderate powederiness soon assumes a more seductive, boudoir-like character, aided by a bouquet of irises and violets, as well as the emerging coumarinic undertones of the base – however, the fragrance never loses its bright, ethereal character. A veil of silky musk keeps Penhaligon’s The Favourite in a perpetual state of breezy elegance, even after the creamy/ambery base develops, adding a delightful tone of youthfulness, frivolity, and mischief.

Penhaligon's The Favourite

At first a well-mannered, winsome, ambrosial musky/floral, Penhaligon’s The Favourite eventually reveals its intimate powdery undertones, and understated sensuality. To me, this is the fragrance of the young, beautiful and ebullient Sarah that so profoundly charmed Princess Anne, at the time when their friendship was still pure and joyful, unburdened by intense power games and ceaseless political plotting. In “The Favourite” (2018), Queen Anne remarks that Lady Sarah is some days too mean and uncaring, to which the latter replies: Some days, I’m quite lovely though. Let’s think on them.” Penhaligon’s The Favourite does just that.

Listed Notes:  Bergamot, Mandarin, Violet, Freesia; Mimosa, Iris, Jasmine;  Indian Sandalwood, Musk, Amber.

Disclaimer: I’d like to thank Penhaligon’s for my deluxe travel spray of Penhaligon’s The Favourite. The opinions are my own.

  • My favorite part of this review is Lady Sarah’s reply “Some days, I’m quite lovely though. Let’s think of them.” That is my feeling of my current state, locked up with 5 kids and my husband! I have never tried any of these fragrances, but would love to! I’m in Florida USA thanks!

  • I am intrigued by the theme that inspired this fragrance as well as the notes that are part of it. This seems like a lovely boudoir-like bouquet with a creamy hint. And I am excited to see that violet, freesia, and iris are included. I really like Artemisia by Penhaligon’s, which I own a small bottle of. I am in the USA.

  • I didnt realize how old Blemheim Bouquet is. So it seems Winston Churchill was not the first famous person in his family and came from a line of quite influential family members. My fav. from Penhaligon’s is Sartorial. US

  • Thanks for the history behind the fragrance. I enjoyed reading about these strong and influential women. Must see the movie. Penhaligon’s is a favorite house of mine. I love Juniper Sling. Mich USA

  • chiaravirga says:

Very interesting review and intriguing theme! I love the movie “The Favourite”, I didn’t expect a fragrance dedicated to this charismatic woman!
The notes look amazing and the packaging is just lovely.
Penhaligon’s is one of my favourite houses, right now my favourite fragrance is Artemisia! I really hope to have the opportunity to try The Favourite.
    I live in Italy, thanks!

I truly enjoyed Despina’s review, I love how she explained the presume love connection between lady Sarah and Queen Anne. Also I love how the perfume comes alive in the midst of all of this. I truly enjoyed the illustrations and the story itself and since I haven’t watch the movie yet it kind of spark my imagination about the scent and about the movie itself.
Currently I own Lothair Penhaligon’s and I’ll love to have this one too. Congratulations to Despina Veneti for being a 2019 Perfumed Plume Winner and for being a finalist in the 2020 competition.
Thank you for the opportunity to participate in his giveaway. I’m commenting from Orlando, Fl USA.

  • Congratulations Despina! Your writing is glorious and your awards show that! I loved how you traced the story of Queen Anne and Lady Sarah. A fragrance like this”eventually reveals its intimate powdery undertones, and understated sensuality. ” So much like Sarah. I have not tried any of Penhaligon’s fragrances but I hope to. USA

  • I didn’t realize Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet has been around so long. I never saw the movie “The Favorite” and I didn’t realize the connection with Winston Churchill. The fragrance sounds like a lovely, youthful spring fragrance. The notes seem feminine and as per Lady Sarah, quite lovely. My favorite Penhaligon scent is Empressa. Sheltering in place in MD, USA.

  • Wow, what a history… Who thunk it… A pinkish Fragrance that “a combination that carries the aromatic impression of enjoying a cup of tea in an English countryside garden” is what the page tells me that it embraces… My wife would just LOVE this scent! I have only heard of Penhaligon through reviews and have not put my nose around this historical house. I do live in Southern Illinois. THANKS

  • I enjoyed the history about this fragrance most. Amazing notes, right up my alley. Please count me in and thanks a lot for the giveaway. I’m in CA,USA.

  • I really liked Despina’s review of ‘The Favourite’ and how the fragrance gets its name – surprised it does not have a more ornate cap like many of Penhaligon’s ‘historical’ fragrances. My fav Penhaligon’s that I have smelled thus far is The Bewitching Yasmine. I live in TX. Thanks

I congratulated Despina Veneti for her achievements and for her talent as a writer. Love to read your articles and plus you make very impressive photo collages.
In today Despina’s review I enjoyed:”Composed by perfumer Aliénor Massenet of Symrise, Penhaligon’s The Favourite reflects the charming, appealing, vivacious side of the woman it is inspired by. The fragrance opens with the juiciness of succulent citruses (bergamot, mandarin) and the green sweetness of airy freesias – a combination that carries the aromatic impression of enjoying a cup of tea in an English countryside garden.”
I learned the story behind the Penhaligon’s ” The Favorite” fragragrance, very interesting.
British famous house, very nice feminine scent with golden mimosa, majestic scent of Iris and musk, Violet, freesia, orange and sandalwood. Such a pretty bottle and natural, sparkling fragragrance.
Thank you for this Draw, for review and generosity of house Penhaligon.

Congratulations Despina, for your award! You write very, very well!
I find her description of this fragrance to be captivating. To have a fragrance that can elegantly capture a moment in history, a personality, a relationship, it’s beautiful! A stately fragrance, a ‘family heirloom’s gives so much depth to this already! I’ve always enjoyed a cup of tea! To have those notes at all is lovely, along with powdery notes to follow

I have never sampled any of Penhalogin’s fragrances before so this is a marvelous opportunity. Thank you! I live in New Hampshire USA!

  • Oh, I do love history…keep writing, please.
The Favourite is beautiful, classic and simple in appearance; I enjoyed the story behind it. The notes sound heavenly. We could all use a little beauty right now.

  • Thank you for the history lesson, I could read a whole book about that! Always enjoy the different ways you guys review these scents. I haven’t had the opportunity to smell other scents from this house. I live in NYC. Take care of each other

  • First congratulations to Despina for another wonderful and well deserved recognition! I really enjoyed the review and love that it has both the historical and recent cinematic inspirations. I’ve yet to see the film but remember seeing a trailer for it that seemed fun and interesting. I think my girl would love this fragrance the notes and description sound wonderful. I wouldn’t mind being the one to steal a spray for once as I’ve been interested in trying some more floral fragrances as long as it is not too overtly feminine that is but regardless I do believe she would enjoy it. Yet to try anything from Penhaligons. I do live in CT USA. Thanks for the generous draw.

  • Congratulations Despina, wish you all the luck in the world in the finals!

What I enjoyed most about Despina’s review was how expansive it was without losing sight of the fragrance itself. It was great to learn so much about the fragrance and it’s history / connection and Despina’s thoughts on it.

My favourite penthaligons is the tragedy of Lord George.

    I’m from Ireland.
    Take care and stay safe.

  • Pixiedust2 says:

Love the history and I’m still waiting to see that movie. I love a powdery mimosa, would love to try this! And as a Pug lover, I squealed at that photo with Linda Evangelista. My favorite Penhaligon fragrance is the sadly discontinued Elixir. I still have a 3/4 full bottle that I hoard. I’m in USA.

  • valentina says:

I approve to the idea that women have to be vivacious. Otherwise, they will never succeed. I truly find myself in this line:”Some days, I’m quite lovely though. Let’s think on them.” I am working on myself to improve, tho. I adore the coveted dutchess. Lovely! I live in Romania, Europe. Thank you!

  • Hi I’m in the U.K. and loved this review, interesting to read about the history and I really want to watch the film. I love the sound of the favourite it’s all notes I love especially freesia and mimosa. I’m a Penhaligons fan my favourite is Iris Prima followed by Vaara and Luna. Thank you

  • phoenixad says:

Congratulations Despina Veneti. This article was a nice trip to political history. Now i know i have to watch the favorite and definitely try this fragrance. Thanks for the opportunity

  • mleenstra says:

Despina sets this perfume well in its historical context. It is very interesting to know how Blenheim Bouquet and the Favourite were inspired by this 17th century power couple. My signature scent is Juniper Sling from Penhaligons and my parter wears Endymion. I’m in London U.K.

  • Hello! What a lovely article! Powdery feminine scents are my weakness. And pink?! Yes, please!
My “favourite” part of the article was, “Queen Anne remarks that Lady Sarah is some days too mean and uncaring, to which the latter replies: “Some days, I’m quite lovely though. Let’s think on them.” ! I wonder if that would work on my husband?
My favorite Penhaligon’s fragrance (so far) is probably Iris Prima. I live in Indiana, US.
    Thank you!

  • Laurentiu says:

So sad times we are now living, but this one seems to cheer up its’ wearer. I like powdery perfumes and even if The Favourite is only mild-powdered I am sure I would love it. I am in EU. Thanks!

  • wallygator88 says:

This was a neat writeup. I love fragrances that have a historical context to them.

I also really liked the movie.

Thanks for the cool review, Despina.

    Regards from WI, USA

  • I love the idea of a fragrance helping me become more charming and vivacious. Its too bad that the two women let politics ruin their friendship. I don’t have any Penhaligon’s fragrances yet. USA

  • Despina’s review reminded me that I want to watch that movie. Luckily it is on HBO and so on my schedule for this evening. Like the Lady Sarah, I too am some days too mean and uncaring and need a scent like this to remind me that some days I can be quite lovely. I don’t think I have ever tried anything from Penhaligon’s. I am in the USA

  • Omg I fell on love with it at first sight! Love that she said it has boudoir character, it’s my cup of tea then. That bottle is soo pretty I want it I need it! Such a beautiful artwork. My favorite from Penhaligons is surely much ado about the Duke. Peppery rose. I am in Europe, Germany

  • “Some days, I’m quite lovely though. Let’s think on them.” – my favorite line from the review. We could apply this to so many things – bad days, bad news, etc. Sometimes the days and news can be quite lovely, so let’s think of them.

Congratulations, Despina for your 2020 Perfumed Plume Finalist Award for Penhaligon’s Cairo. This is a very nice review with interesting British history, and describing where Penhaligon’s The Favourite gets its inspiration from. Will have to check out the movie.

Penhaligon’s Sartorial, Levantium, and As Sawira are our favorites. Also like Blenheim Bouquet , but it is not at the top of list. With notes (Bergamot, Mandarin, Violet, Freesia; Mimosa, Iris, Jasmine; Indian Sandalwood, Musk, Amber), The Favourite seems to be a very fresh, pleasant fragrance for lifting the spirit during these unsettling times, so it would be great to try it. Thanks for the draw. Writing from USA.

  • wicked backstory to a elegant sounding fragrance. i love anything citrus, but the other notes listed are just as attractive. i actually wear a lot of penhaligon, and 1 of my faves is the gent’s blenheim bouquet due to the lemon & lime; gin like. thank you for the draw

  • redwheelbarrow says:

What a great story! I loved that Sarah Churchill got the last word with her memoirs! I have not tried any of Penhaligon’s fragrances and I don’t even know where to start. These stories of perfumes tied to historic and powerful women always amaze me. It’s like a secret out in the open. Also I adored the movie. I love thinking that the fragrance represents a time of strong female friendship. I need as many happy thoughts as I can get at the moment. Thank you for this great read and draw. I’m in the US.

  • John Halim says:

    Congrats, Despina!

I love the historical background that Despina gave in this review. I have a good friend named Sarah and this fragrance description does remind me a bit of her 🙂 I love Penhaligon’s Oud De Nil and I would love to get my nose on The Favorite! Maryland, USA.

  • Congrats, Despina!

  • Thanks for an informative review. This sounds beautifully feminine. My favorite Penhaligon’s is Elixir. I’m in the US.

  • sillage4ever says:

Very much enjoyed the history lesson in the context of these specific perfumes, thanks for wrapping it all together so nicely.

It took me a while to appreciate Penhaligon’s offerings, but first Endymion and then Ostara (my favorite) finally cracked the allure of this house for me. With an ambitious title like The Favorite there’s no way this isn’t going to be terrific.

  • I enjoyed reading about the bit of history and find out that the perfume pays tribute to the monumental Blenheim Palace. I also love that The Favourite has intimate powdery undertones, and understated sensuality.
I live in USA and my favorite is Satorial.

  • “Some days, I’m quite lovely though,Let’s think on the them”.I believe this is a lovely quote and I think it sums up the essence and character of the perfume perfectly. My favourite from Penhaligons is probably Sartorial. Congratulations to Despina on her Instapost on Cairo!! Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • Thanks for the history lesson, sounds like smoke and mirrors. I am intrigued by the Listed Notes: Bergamot, Mandarin, Violet, Freesia; Mimosa, Iris, Jasmine; Indian Sandalwood, Musk, Amber. Congratulations to Despina on her Instapost on Cairo. Thanks from the UK

  • Congrats Despina on your nomination!
This review is also wonderful as always. I enjoyed reading the extensive historic-personal introduction and the detailed description of this perfume. In particular, the freesia is one of my favorite notes and it’s lovely if it’s in the spotlight even if just for a while. This fragrance also promises to make a great floral bouquet with a pinch of sensuality from the iris and the musk. I love Vaara and The Coveted Duchess from Penhaligon’s. I am in the EU. Hope everyone is and stays safe!

  • Bryant Worley says:

I loved the history lesson, concerning the relationship between Queen Anne and Lady Sarah. Unfortunately, I have only sampled Penhaligon’s fragrances vicariously through YouTube reviews and, if I had to choose a favorite from my imaginary ‘sniffs’, it would have to be Halfeti. I live in Waldorf, MD, USA, and me, myself and I look forward to testing this on our skin during this lockdown.

  • Good timing for this fragrance after a fun movie with two great actresses. I’m like the inspiration and violet, freesia, jasmine and iris are some of my favourite notes.

  • m.r.everything says:

First and foremost, Congrats Despina for being a finalist in the Perfumed Plume! This is awesome and a great accomplishment! Thank you for all the fantastic content you bring us… it is truly a joy to read your work. Thank you for bringing us your take on The Favourite. I love the Penhaligon’s brand… I have sampled several and really enjoy them, but the only one I have a full bottle of is Elixir. I actually have 2 bottles of that one and really enjoy it! I have a few on my list to purchase, such as Blenheim Bouquet, which you speak of here, and also Sartorial. I also am looking to get my hands on a bottle of Juniper Sling, Hammam Bouquet, Halfeti, and TraLaLa. They are such fascinating scents and I really need to dive back in to the brand. That doesn’t include the Portrait’s Collection, as there are several from that line that I would love to get my hands on as well! Thank you for adding The Favourite to the list… or at least to the list of sampling, for sure. I am also now going to have to check out the film that shares the same name. Thank you and congrats again for your take on The Favourite and for being a finalist in the Perfumed Plume awards! Thank you to the house of Penhaligon’s for your gorgeous olfactory experiences, generosity, and for this amazing opportunity! It is appreciated more than you know! Thank you, as always, to Michelyn, for everything you do! Without you, none of this would be possible! Commenting from Delaware, US. Good luck to all and stay safe!

  • I love Ostara (sadly discontinued) and I loved Despina’s history lesson! I live in the UK

  • Reading the story about the inspiration of the perfume was a delight, even if I saw the movie :).
This could definitely be a blind buy, only having read ‘green sweetness of airy freesia’ , ‘iris’, ‘violets’ and ‘powdery aura’.
    Oh, add ‘mischief’, too
I loooove The ruthless countess Dorothea and I live in EU.

  • Dubaiscents says:

“ The fragrance is subsequently colored golden by the radiant mimosa, that adds its unique honey-esque, warm floralcy (supported by whiffs of non-indolic jasmine) to the composition, along with a hazy, powdery aura. ” this description is what makes me want to try it and the gorgeous pink velvet bow is what makes me want to have a bottle! I never thought I’d learn so much history through perfume! Great story! I have a couple of Penhaligon’s scents but I always like Hammam as a classic musk! I’m in the US.

  • NiceVULady says:

Congratulations Despina. It’s well deserved. I really enjoyed the picture you painted of a time,a place, and a charming and witty woman. I love the concept of “breezy elegance.” This is a fragrance that I would very much like to try. I so enjoyed the review. Thank you for a most generous draw. I’m in the USA

  • History has many secrets. Despina has tickled my interest in the story of Queen Anne and the Duchess of Marlborough, it would not surprise me were it true. I missed seeing the movie, both lead actors make me smile, so will enjoy it during this odd time in modern history. My favorite from Penhaligon’s is Ostara which I will bring out of hiding now that Spring is here. I am in the US. Congratulations to Despina and all the Perfumed Plume winners. I’ve been reading and enjoying their work, thank you for bringing the authors the attention they so rightly deserve.

  • chrisskins says:

Congratulations, Despina! Rock on, girl! This Penhaligon sounds so delightful! I loved the movie and am a sucker for a great story behind a fragrance. I’d love to take the journey from bergamot to amber. I have Bluebell and feel there’s something so classically pretty about English perfume and Despina describes the fun and mischief perfectly. I live in NY.

  • I would love to win. Despina congratulations. Iris and violets and silk musks sounds so feminine and lovely. I live in the Eu. My favorite Penhaligon’s is Luna
    Many thanks

  • Ronald Japenga says:

The history behind the name of the fragrance is incredibly interesting. Thank you for sharing this.

The duchess sounds like my partner. An outspoken and straightforward lady who manages our household brilliantly as well.

She does not own any of Penhaligon’s fragrances yet, but I would love to introduce her by presenting this as a gift.

We live in the United Kingdom.

  • Very interested in this draw! I live in Seattle, WA USA. I don’t currently own a Penhaligon fragrance although I’ve read many reviews and am very much interested in this particular fragrance. From the review what intrigues me the most is the relationship of Queen Anne & Lady Sarah as inspiration behind the scent, and I really enjoyed the film “The Favourite” especially the performance by Olivia Colman – what a treasure she is. The tone of the fragrance as “youthfulness, frivolity, and mischief” really speaks to me, and I hope to have the opportunity to experience this fragrance first hand! Thank you, Jackie

  • WaltherP99 says:

I like the way Despina described The Favorite “Well mannered, winsome, ambrosial musky/floral” .
Don’t know it yet. I have smelled not all , but most Penhaligon’s fragrances , and to me the best 3 are 1.Roaring Radcliff , by far the best one. At the bottom of my bottle ~5ml left. Most definitely i will re-buy it soon. My girlfriend also loves it 2.Tragedy of Lord George 3.Kensington Amber , sadly discontinued.
Thank you , and Penhaligon’s for the opportunity.
To all Cafleurebon crew and readers, stay safe and healthy
Usually Virginia USA or London UK , but now because of the circumstances I’m stuck in the States, not for long I hope

Yes sometimes a lady has to have some fun. Trying to figure out how at this point in life with so much closed and being quarantined. I shall think of a way! Interesting history here. The powdery undertones interest me, I don”t believe I have any powdery type fragrances. I tried this line at a lovely shop in Charleston SC, I wanted to go back and explore more, but the family was along and you know how that goes….. I’d love a chance at this, sounds lovely. USA.

  • I’m interested since freesia, violet, jasmine, and and iris smell really great in warm weather. although this supposedly leans powdery and a bit sweet, it seems like it would be like a bouquet of flowers, rather than something cloying.
Of the house, I’m not sure what my fav is. It would be a draw between Castille, Hamam Bouquet, or Sartorial.
Im in the US. thanks for the draw

  • Kristy Shelton says:

I enjoyed the quote included, “Some days, I’m quite lovely though. Let’s think on them.” I’ve never tried Penthaligon’s fragrances and I would very much like to! Thank you for the lovely descriptive review that paints a portait of many facets of a lady. I live in Houston, TX, USA.

  • Elegant and creamy floral , unfortunately i’m not familiar with The Favourite , but i love my bottle of Vaara . It’s was my last birthdays SOTD 🙂 I do know Sartorial and i do like it on guys 45+
Despina reviews are always top notch – nothing new here. Shared this one on Social Media . Thank you

  • Lovely review! I love learning about historical aspects of a perfume or perfume house. The last few lines are my favorite. I have many Penhaligon scents – Malabah, Elizabethan Rose, Ostara, and The Coveted Duchess Rose. I’m in California.

  • I have ave to say I really like Penhaligon’s . Of course I can’t enjoy all , but The Tragedy of Lord George , Sartorial and Monsieur Beauregard are all precious parts of my 107 bottles collection. Yet i sold my bottle of Halfeti. Went through 3 bottle during the years , but I can’t wear it anymore. It was my ex wife favorite smell on me , but after we split every time I’ve spayed it I was thinking of her. Fragrances could carry a lot of memories you know.
I don’t stay away from classy florals, especially with ambery base. The Favourite I’ll gladly wear .
    Thank you for the draw.

  • Haven’t tried any from Penhaligon. The notes are right up my alley. Bright and ethereal, floral and sensual. ❤️ Congrats Despina. IL, USA

  • petergigov says:

A bit implistic, but yet complex the way it feels, The Favourite is.
I like bergamot, just like I like iris and amber.
Yes I’m curious . Proud owner of Kensington Amber . Love everything about it – burgundy box , the performance , compliments I get wearing it , and on top of all the way it makes me happy. It’s special to me also , because my initials are engraved on the bottle.
    Many thanks USA

  • My favourite part is Some days I am quite lovely though… The bottle is so beautiful its practically art at its finest. The notes are elegant. Thanks for the draw. I live in CA, USA.

  • Great review by Despina and I enjoyed learning about the history of Sara and Ann as well as their relationship over the years! I love that Violet, Iris, Mimosa, Freesia, Jasmine, and Musk are some of the notes in this one. It sounds very feminine and beautiful. My favorite part was: “At first a well-mannered, winsome, ambrosial musky/floral, Penhaligon’s The Favourite eventually reveals its intimate powdery undertones, and understated sensuality. To me, this is the fragrance of the young, beautiful and ebullient Sarah that so profoundly charmed Princess Anne, at the time when their friendship was still pure and joyful, unburdened by intense power games and ceaseless political plotting.” Thanks for the generous giveaway and I live in the US!

  • Just finished watching the movie, and even though I was not expecting much, it excited my expectations.
Sign me up for giveaway. I would feel lovely not some days, but all the time wearing The Favourite.
Portraits Collection I had a chance to smell in December, and bought Roaring Radcliff . Yes it’s a bit similar to Tobacco Vanille , but to me it smells better. Rum is really strong on me . I was asked twice if I’m sober or not when I was wearing it.
Appreciate the review , and the giveaway campaign.

  • Seductive, boudoir, mischief, political plotting…if it smells like this I’ll love it! I have only only tried Penhaligon’s LP no. 9 and like it, but I’m not blown away by it. I do hear great things about Penhaligon’s and want to explore more.
    Thank you! Oregon USA

  • I really enjoyed reading the story behind the perfume.
Can’t wait for it to arrive in muscat outlet, in the Sultanate of oman.
