Parfums M. Micallef EDENFALLS Review (Geoffrey Nejman and Jean-Claude Astier) 2021 + Ode to Nature Draw

Parfums M. Micallef EDENFALLS from the Jewel collection

“A true love letter to nature”, this is how Parfums M. Micallef describe their most recent release – EDENFALLS. The newest addition to the Jewel Collection is an aromatic ode in citrus, with subtle woody notes and what I would describe as pseudo-aquatic bursts of freshness.

Botanical ingredients

The opening is vibrant: a cascade of pink pepper, bergamot and tangerine lure you into a paradisiacal and lush rainforest. The fragrance provides an almost multisensory experience: the crisp texture of luxuriant and oversized leaves, the soil soaked with water and the air imbued with a cooling mist coming from a nearby waterfall. I perceive a fleeting impression of champagne, not particularly boozy, but tangy and fruity; a rejuvenating libation that enhances the tartness of the citrus notes.  Parfums M Micallef EDENFALLS has an airy and effervescent quality. It is like the vivacious murmur of an ice-cold mountain creek. Even the beautiful bottle (finished by hand using a sponge patina technique developed by co founder Martine Micallef, appears to be mimicking the rocky floor of a rapid, with smooth rocks creating an imperfect labyrinth for the mercurial water. As the notes in the opening start to slowly dissipate, they make room for the floral heart of the fragrance. Tantalizing jasmine along with neroli and coriander amplify the contrast between the invigorating opening and the slightly warmer heart. Not quite a hot-and-cold dichotomy, but rather a cold-and-lukewarm relationship; like splashing your body with water from the base of the waterfall before diving all the way in. The floral notes are, however, just as awash with freshness as the notes in the opening, the only difference being that they are rounder and more colourful. The coriander plays the balancing act role here with hints of spiciness, honing in on the sweetness of the jasmine and neroli and bringing the focus on their similarities rather than on what sets each note apart from the other.

Parfums M. Micallef EdenFalls

Olfactory Peregrination for EDENFALLS by icarus.in.midair

The drydown of Parfums M Micallef EDENFALLS is a thing of beauty. The now subdued yet still very much noticeable citrus and floral notes take on a new dimension with the surfacing of the more obscure base notes. The patchouli and oakmoss reveal a pleasant earthiness and along with a dark vanilla and musk, they create a subtle woody accord, thus capturing the many facets of the landscape it seeks to mimic and celebrate. EDENFALLS paints a captivating picture of a pristine rainforest! It is a transparent scent, and one that has the ability to lighten up an overcast mood. As for the signature paper piece that I created inspired by Parfums M Micallef EDENFALLS, I wanted it to be an extension of the actual fragrance, but also of the overall presentation and the thought process that went behind its creation. The colour palette is a nod to the craftsmanship displayed in the beautiful bottle and the piece as a whole is a tribute to the brand’s “art and perfume” philosophy.

Notes: Pink Pepper, Bergamot, tangerine, coriander, Jasmine, Neroli, Musk, Patchouli, Vanilla, Oakmoss

Congratulations to Cristian and his promotion to a Senior Contributor!
This is a very nice review. His description of the notes and his parallel with jumping into a waterfall makes me feel Edenfalls would be a great spring and summer fragrance. I do not have a favorite M. Micallef fragrance since I haven’t tried any of them yet even though I’ve known about this house for a long time. I didn’t know that they were one the first houses to use oud in a major way! That is an interesting info! Oud hype is big at the moment. I’m from Illinois, US.

  • I live near a waterfall called Eden Falls and this fragrance sounds like the place. I had no idea that it was founded in 96 and was one of the first to use oud in a major way – so cool! What sparks me most is the freshness of this fragrance. I’d love to win. USA

  • I’ve been interested in Parfums M. Micallef for a while but I haven’t tried any of their fragrances yet. I also didn’t know that they were the first to use oud in a major way. This creation seems to blend citrus fruits and spices to create a sparkling effect that will surely work beautifully with the oakmoss base. I am in the USA.

  • Congratulations Cristian!

    M. Micallef really got on my radar after I tested DesirToxic. I am saving up for a bottle later this year and have been keeping up to date with the newer releases of the brand.

Cristian’s review perfectly describes what I was hoping Edenfalls would smell like. A high quality, airy and effervescent fragrance. It’s like a breath of fresh air. Perfect for the upcoming hot summer days and my weekend yoga sessions!

I honestly thought the company was much older than 25 years. They have an impressive collection and the quality of their fragrances is normally only found in houses that have been around for many more decades. Very impressive.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
    Greetings from the UK

  • Congratulations Christian! M. Micallef is one of those houses that I have heard a lot about, but never actually tried. Congratulations to them as well for the 25 years! The description of the textures of rock and stone in this review are very interesting and make me want to try it though. Canada

  • So here it is in a nutshell. ‘EDENFALLS paints a captivating picture of a pristine rainforest! It is a transparent scent and one that has the ability to lighten up an overcast mood ‘. Exactly what this woman needs. Hard to chose a favorite but Pure Extreme is my current go-to.
I am in the US. Cristian, thanks for the lovely review, and the artwork piece is gorgeous.

  • EDENFALLS is Micallef’s tribute to nature and it has airy composition, with floral elements. It also embodies earthy elements through notes such as patchouli. My fav. from Micallef is Black Sashka. I am in US

  • I know pretty much nothing of this house, so thank you for educating me. I am an artist too, and love both the bottle and your artwork! The fragrance sounds refreshing and I have just started to enjoy neroli scents. In the USA.

  • Cristian’s review of Parfums M. Micallef EDENFALLS really draws you in , as if you are on a ride going different areas of the world smelling the pronounced scents “The land”. Definitely like to sample some of Parfums M. Micallef scents.

I always love a review that discusses the journey of the dry-down. How it moves from one note to the next is remarkable to me. I don’t have a favourite Parfums M. Micallef perfume yet, but that’s really fascinating about how it was one of the first to use oud in a major way, as my brother is big into a good oud. Canada.

  • Thank you Cristian for the review! You have piqued my curiosity to try EDENFALLS from Micallef because of your description of a rainforest. That truly sounds lovely and would love to smell that and feel transported.
Thank you from Canada for the giveaway!

  • Congrats on becoming senior contributor Cristian!! That artwork is insane and

I loved the description of the lush rainforest with the nearby waterfall. Also, the details about the bottle design make this one stand out in anyone’s collection. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Congrats on becoming senior contributor Cristian!! That artwork is insane and if it is anything like the fragrance I can only assume this is a masterpiece of perfumery! The detailed drydown portrayal along with the pictorials was very enticing and I love the fact that it ties to the beauty of nature. My current favorite from the brand has to be Style but this profile seems like a winner!

  • First things first: love the arrangements!! And ha I’m very intrigued by “pseudo-aquatic” description!

Now how would a lukewarm scent be like? Would my interpretation be the same? Will my rainforest be the same as Christian’s? (and would my mind bend my scent interpretation to force out the apple that I keep associating the name with?)

As Christian describes the bottle design and the mercurial water, my brain which has suffered chemical engineering before jumped right to all those flows (turbulent, laminar, transient) and wonder if any geek perfumer would be inspired and create scents to honor them and our sufferings at all? Ha

I’m based in Thailand! With sadly no exposure to Parfums M. Micallef perfume (and hey happy Quarter Life! lol – use oud in major way, mm is this restricted to only western ‘modern’ perfumery?). But based on their website I think I’d love: desirtoxic, royal vintage, gourmet, and Ruh!

  • I’ve always wanted to live next to a waterfall so this description touched a special place in my heart. I’ve yet to experience this house yet and had no idea they were the first to use oud majorly. I live in Indiana USA

  • The color of the bottle is so beautiful! The color definitely makes me think of a mountain waterfall. This one sounds like a beauty as it develops even though I wasn’t quite expecting the darkness of the vanilla and musk, but it really sounds like a beauty to experience. My favorite perfume from the house is Mon Cristal. I live in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Comgrats Cristian on becoming a Senior Contributor! I’ve enjoyed reading your reviews and seeing the wonderful visuals you create as well. One thing that sparked my interest was how Cristian described EDENFALLS as, “…an aromatic ode in citrus, with subtle woody notes and what I would describe as pseudo-aquatic bursts of freshness.” It sounds great with the citrus freshness ans floral heart that remains fresh in a different way and the grounding base all painting the picture of a rainforest. I think it sounds like a wonderful wear for summer. I havent tried any M. Micallef fragrances yet but have wanted to and plan to try Ylang in Gold and EDENFALLS caught my attention when I first heard about it and saw reviews. Congrats also to M. Micallef on celebrating their 25 year anniversary. Thanks so much for the generous draw, from CT USA.

Notes: Pink Pepper, Bergamot, tangerine, coriander, Jasmine, Neroli, Musk, Patchouli, Vanilla, Oakmoss. Congratulations to Christine on his promotion I am fascinated by the notes especially Patchouli, oakmoss, pink pepper, jasmine and coriander. This is a house that I am not familiar with but I am intrigued by nonetheless. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • This perfume sounds really exciting and intriguing! You had me at that image about Edenfalls painting a captivating picture of a pristine rainforest and that is an uplifting and transparent scent that has the ability to overcome a bad mood.

The resemblance to a rainfotest is what made me take an interest to this fragrance.

Congratulations to Cristian for his promotion to Senior Contributor! I love his work with paper, so nice and delicate! Amazing review, i was captivated and instantly moved to a place when i read about the labyrithn,i was reminded of a place with many forests and a watefall where close it there is a hidden cave that resides a labyrinth, which could lead you to an amazing new world(that was my thought when i read about it).I was not familiar with the celebration of 25 years, the house of Micallef to me has some of the best fragrances and i would love to have the chance to smell all of them. The one that is more familiar to me is DESIRTOXIC and i once smelled RUH(piece of art from bottle to fragrance).I live in Greece.

  • 25 years? Congratulations to Parfums M. Micallef! And congratulations to Cristian on his promotion! What most intrigues me about Cristian’s review are the pseudo-aquatic notes. Everything about the scent sounds lovely, but I just can’t quite imagine those … I want to smell them. I do not have a favorite Parfums M. Micallef perfume. I am in the US.

  • wildevoodoo says:

My favorite Parfums M. Micallef perfume is Gourmet, which I had the pleasure of trying when I visited a boutique in Grasse that sold the brand. Cristian’s review makes Edenfalls sound like such a breath of fresh air- a rainforest, an ice-cold mountain creek! What a perfect scent to cut through the humidity in summer, or to eliminate the dreariness of a long winter. It also sounds like the perfect fragrance for a tropical getaway, and I’d love to test this theory. Congratulations Cristian on becoming a senior contributor!! I am in the US 🙂

  • M. Micallef perfumes are responsible for my fragrance journey through lesser known houses (niche?). The first frangrance that I bought from the house was AKOWA – I love it so much, that it’s one of the few I have a backup bottles.
I also love DESIR TOXIC and EMIR (an absolutely well blended Oud).
Cristian’s review is as fresh as the scent: Citrus, jasmin, musk, tachouli and vetiver… I really, really, really would love to try this one
    I’m from EU (Portugal)

  • Cristian [I hear congrats are in order, well done :)] had me at lightening up an overcast mood, and who doesn’t need that these days.
I could almost see the rainforest, the leaves, the water – he’s really good at “painting” with words, almost as good as Martine Micallef’s technique for embellishing the bottle.
    I am from Europe.

  • Beautiful review, Cristian.
Especially I love description of base – patchouli and oakmoss with pleasant earthiness and dark vanilla and musk! sounds beautiful.
Congratulation to M. Micallef brand for year anniversary !!!
I love Royal Vintage very much.

  • By reading this article I imagined myself taking a deep breath in paradise while making yoga lol, Edenfalls sounds like a spicy floral, so natural and meditative that I would love to try it.
I haven’t tried any Micallef fragrance yet, but Ylang in Gold has been on my radar for some time, it might be my favorite Micallef because of its beautiful presentation. Very nice photos on the article by the way, love them.
    Congratulations for their 25th anniversary!

  • I really understand the ode to nature that Christian describes here, sounds soothing. My favourite Micallef is Royal Vetiver, of which I’m sad to not have bought it in the first, most beautiful bottle. I’d love to win this to Germany, thanks for the draw!

Parfum M Micaleff EDENFALLS sounds like a complete sensory experience, from the fragrance to the visually beautiful, tactile bottle. I love the description of an airy, effervescent scent and comparison to an ice cold mountain stream. I also love the icarus.in.midair paper creation. It captures the perfume perfectly. I do not have a favorite Parfum M Micaleff fragrance but congratulations on 25 years! Commenting from MD,USA.

  • Edenfalls picked up my interest with the quality citruses, florals, and patchouli in the base. Classy summer fragrance i’d love to have.
I was not aware Parfums M. Micallef was founded 25 years ago, but I know Akowa is one of the most unusual fragrances in my collection. It’s from the same line as Edenfalls , and it smells like mix of earthy vetiver, burned orange , cacao and it’s also ambery.I’ve never smelled similar fragrance before.

  • Congratulations Cristian and congratulations Maison Micallef for the 25 years of activity! To many more for both!
Edenfalls sounds glorious in Cristian’s words. Clear and crisp as a waterfall, a moodlifter, a return to nature, life and simplicity. And how beautiful is that bottle?!
I have recently discovered coriander “in real life” and was flabbergasted by its charming and potent smell. I would love to smell it in a perfume, and paired with jasmine and neroli it would be a dream.

  • Many thanks and congrats Cristian! The seniority in Cafleurbon has arrived!
I discovered M. Micallef when I smelled Osaito on a friend skin: I fall in love with this citrus fragrance.
Now Cristian’s review describes very vividly Edenfalls and it is so easy and pleasant to imagine how the scent would smell like. As he says ” a captivating picture of a pristine rainforest”… the citrus freshness, a floral heart and a subtle woody drydown accord . Prefect for the hot summer days that arrived to Spain in mid may. The bottle is also a piece of art as your amazing pictures Cristian!I had no idea that M. Micallef was one the first to use oud in a major way. I live in Spain, EU.

  • The fragrance sounds wonderful and the bottle is gorgeous! Just as I saw it I said to myself “this has to be some artisanal work”. And there you have it in the review: finished by hand by a technique invented by Martine! Really, really nice!
Thank you! I am from Europe

  • A pristine rainforest to lighten up overcast moods…sounds like an intoxicating remedy. I’m a water sign, obsessed with waterfalls. I do not have a fav Parfums M. Micallef perfume nor did not know about their 25 year history or their use of oud. I’m learning so much from the reviews on this site. Thank you! I live in Virginia, USA where I have my own favorite waterfall.

  • That bottle is out of this world. I haven’t sampled anything from this house yet.

Thanks for the draw! From Canada.

  • Welcome Cristian. From the review, it seems Micallef EDENFALLS is a beautiful scent. The pictures are lovely, bottle is beautiful, and the notes are heavenly. I didn’t know that Micallef was one of the first houses to use oud in a major way, before it became a mainstream craze – I love oud too. I haven’t tried anything by Micallef, yet. Thanks for the review and a chance to check out this house. Writing from the USA.

Cristian Marianciuc take on Edenfalls reminded me of eating Tangerine Vanilla Tea Cakes with candied peel on top , drinking freshly squeezed juice and having a walk at the Versailles gardens. Congrats to him for climbing on the latter.
Desir Toxic i bought because of Gail Gross review on Cafleurebon, to my surprise it’s way sweeter compared to how Gail described it. It reminds me of Vanilla Cassis Cake .
My girlfriend owns Mon Parfum Cristal. What a gorgeous scent, but I think it’s marketed a bit wrong. Yes it’s gourmand, but in 2021 it should be unisex in my opinion. I can pull it off without any issues, and I do . My girlfriend says it smells really sexy , and alluring on me.
I was under the impression M. Micallef is rather new brand, and not 25 years old.
Appreciate Cristian review , and giveaway campaign.

  • I’ve only heard of this fragrance house; I’ve never tried any of their releases and I didn’t know that they’ve been in business for 25 years, nor did I know that they were one of the earliest “Western” fragrance houses to use oud in a major way. Christian’s review caused this fragrance to seem very enticing and interesting to me. According to the review, it seems like this fragrance could be one of the best ones that I could ever smell. Thank you for the great review Cristian.

When I first read your review, I was taken by the images of the bottle .The intricacies in the geometric patterns and the everchanging shading in the tones of blue and the patina have such a refreshing quality – I’m just thinking of hammocking over a quietly bubbling creek, surrounded by flowers and greenery and cool air rustling through the trees – a scene of utter refrshment.

I love the fact that the citrus in this fragrance is tart and not sweet.

I haven’t smelt anything of this house before and it’s quite amazing to think of them as being the first to use oud.

I love Micallef bottles and perfumes, especially Desire Toxic.

  • I could almost feel a crisp, refreshing breeze from EDENFALLS while reading this review. It sounds like a perfect summer scent. And, that bottle is gorgeous. I haven’t tried any Parfums M. Micallef, and my guess is that I’ve been missing out. I live in the USA.

This would be a wonder fragrance to rock this summer. I have not tried any other M Micallef perfumes, so I can’t say what my favorite would be. I was not aware of the founding date of this house. I am surprised that it was an early ‘oud’ adopter! I enjoyed that this review made me think of summer 🙂

    Thank you from Canada.

Of the M. Micallef fragrances I’ve tried, my favourite would probably be Osaito – it’s very uplifting! I did not know that the brand was the first brand to use oud in a major way!

Cristian did a great job with his artistic but also realistic review. The perfume sounds like a true dream come true in a perfume bottle! Vibrant opening, airy and effervescent character and floral notes awash with freshness. Interesting and unique citrusy fragrances are always a pleasure when summer is knocking on the door, and Edenfalls sounds particularly captivating. Patchouli, oakmoss, vanilla and musk added to the mix sound exquisite and I am a longstanding lover of them all. I have no favorite Parfums M. Micallef fragrance at the moment but am looking forward to places reopening so I can have a sniff. I have not known Parfums M. Micallef were the first house to use oud in a major way, that is good to know, thank you! Based in Ireland, EU

Congratulations on your achievement, Cristian! One of Cristian’s descriptions of Eden Falls is what sparks my interest: “The opening is vibrant: a cascade of pink pepper, bergamot and tangerine lure you into a paradisiacal and lush rainforest. Parfums M Micallef EDENFALLS has an airy and effervescent quality.”

I have never tried a Micallef, but because of various reviews, I will be purchasing a decant of Desir Toxic.

I live in Waldorf, MD, USA.

Christian! love your gorgeous presentations. Congratulations M. Micallef for the Silver Jubilee. M. Micallef is one of those houses that I have heard a lot about, but never actually tried any of their perfumes. … Your description of the Edenfalls notes vibe is very attractive and makes me imagine it though. Your review as a whole sends an overwhelming feeling of freshness even before smelling the perfume . Regards from Bosnia!

  • What a beautiful visualization of M Micallef Eden Falls by Cristian.
What stood out is the drydown is a thing of beauty
    I live in the UK

  • This sounds lovely! I have not tried anything from this house. Thanks for the draw!

EDENFALLS i think is refined and elegant woody aromatic, with zesty opening and patchouli and earthy elements in the base. Bottle is awesome, I especially like the color scheme.
25 years? No , I was not aware M.Micallef is such an established company.
Delice i have smelled multiple times, my business partner signature scent.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

  • This sounds refreshing for summer! Bergamot and warm weather just go together! I’ve never tried a M. Micallef fragrance but I consistently hear great reviews of Note Vanille. I hadn’t realized that M. Micallef was one of the first brands to use oud front and center. Fascinating! I really enjoy all of the different art work Martine does on the bottles. It makes them seem much more personal.

Congratulations on becoming a Senior Contributor, Cristian! Keep up the good work! In the USA.

  • All the allusions to a wet rainforest get me. I didn’t know anything about this brand before. Congratulations to Cristian!

  • Congratulations, Christian on your promotion to senior editor. Also, Christian’s art piece inspired by this fragrance is breathtaking! Fragrance is so inspiring. I absolutely love this gorgeous bottle and the fact that it is hand-finished makes it an absolute treasure. I imagine that the fragrance which inspired such a beautiful vessel and such a spectacular art piece is extraordinary. It sounds like something I would absolutely love. I am swooning reading Christian’s words and the notes and imagining what it might smell like. I would be honored to have it in my collection. I didn’t know that M. Micallef was celebrating 25 years. I am new to perfume and haven’t tried any of their fragrances yet, but I would love to try EDENFALLS. Some others on my “to try” list are Black, Patchouli, and Royal Vintage. This hobby is positively endless, isn’t it? I am enjoying my exploration so much.

My opinion about EDENFALLS , according to Cristian Marianciuc review will come second , first I have to say designer they hired did hell of a job , add the “sponge patina technique” by Martine Micallef , and at the end the bottle looks astonishing.
Finest ingredient in unfamiliar combination , fresh and alluring, spicy, patchouli. Niche fragrance at it’s finest.
Cristian reviews are really good, no doubts he deserves the promotion
I’m not yet familiar with M.Micallef fragrances
    Thank you for the opportunity
    USA , rarely Paris France

  • Congrats Cristian! I’m looking for a M Micallef fragrance, as I haven’t tried any. I liked the description of “A true love letter to nature”. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff! Mich USA

I’m familiar with not all , but most M. Micallef fragrances , Edenfalls included.
To name a fragrance “Waterfalls in Paradise” is a bold move , but the fragrance definitely delivers.
Opening is bright, with citruses and pink pepper , then comes clean jasmine and in the base is still fresh, floral and spicy earthy fragrance.
Unlike Cristian i don’t get champagne, and barely get vanilla, if any. What I do perceive instead is fresh young rose , through the whole life of the fragrance. Edenfalls is such a nice , complex fragrance, and it’s made of quality ingredients.
I like Cristian Marianciuc reviews , I follow him on Instagram too . The review, and the vibe around it is what it matters to me , and not if someone is junior, senior or a guest contributor.
From M.Micallef i own personalized bottle of Delice , also Aoud Gourmet , Vanille Aoud , and i had Avant-Garde .
Already follow all profiles on Instagram , thanks
USA only, not for long I hope

  • Congratulations Christian! Your review sparked my interest in this interesting and beautiful description of a spring and summer fragrance, Eden Falls. I loved this statement “mimicking the rocky floor of a rapid, with smooth rocks creating an imperfect labyrinth for the mercurial water.” I wish I had a favorite of this house, I need to try it. Thank you for the chance. USA
