Still far away from Winter holiday season, I won’t want a vanilla that is boozy, sweet, and redolent of scraping out a vanilla pod for my holiday baking. I want a Perfect Vanilla, by Sarah Horowitz-Thran, for a Fall day that would somehow remind me of a scary story which ended well.
I looked forward to participating in the Natural Perfumers Guild 2012 project, Home for the Holidays, which pairs bloggers with natural perfumers who have made home scenting products for the project. I was lucky to receive the “Exotica” candle made by the talented perfumer JoAnne Bassett.

When pondering what to write about, for Halloween, it was a “no brainer”. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab (or BPAL to its fans and fanatics) was the winner, hands down. BPAL has created scents that glorify literature, the gothic era, mythology and everything from love to death.
I have been intrigued with Odin as a perfume line for some time. The stark, dark bottles always seem so masculine, that I’m not sure I’m allowed to wear the perfume inside. In the last month, they released the seventh and eighth scents in the line, 08 Seylon, and 09 Posala. Fortunately, I have found that the perfumes are wearable by any gender.
