Olfactive Studio Rose Shot Review (Collection Sepia) Dominique Ropion (2020)  + Capture The Moment Draw

Olfactive Studio Rose Shot review

Perfumes are angels: they have no gender, but they have a soul.“ – Olfactive Studio

In these times that shift habits and bring changes to everything we might have considered granted, I look for beauty in detail. Small things, little moments, ones that might seem irrelevant in the greater scheme of things, those that might pass unnoticed and yet the same ones that bring a smile, and make me feel better. Paying attention to the little things in life, those fleeting moments that might seem insignificant, or taken for granted is like taking a photo of a moment in time. And when you stop, focus and give your time and attention to little things, their beauty can make you smile, and that one second in time can turn into a force that can lead to the bigger picture of happiness!

A single gesture of kindness, a right word said at the right time, an act of understanding and accepting, a smile in complete strangers eyes, the first whiff of a beloved perfume in the morning, a familiar scent on your pillow before you fall asleep, a drop of rain sliding down the still bright pink petal of the last Autumn rose standing: little things that are unique because even if you see them happening again, they shall never be exactly the same. Little moments full of beauty, zoomed in and captured by single shots of our senses, ones that make all the difference because they change us, and by changing us they change how we relate to the world surrounding us, and by changing the way we relate to the outer world, we change the world. Little moments that matter, even if you don’t post them on social media. And if you do, you just might change somebody else’s moment of a day.

It’s the beauty of a moment captured in time that inspired the creation of Rose Shot, and the new Sepia Trilogy by Olfactive Studio: (the first trio of these 20% Extrait de Parfums (Vanilla Shot, Leather Shot, Chypre Shot is created by Bertrand Duchafour, and inspired the Land Art Landscapes by photographer Martin Hill).

Olfactive Studio Violet Shot, Rose Shot and Iris Shot review

The three new fragrances presented during Esxence Milano 2019, and recently released are Olfactive Studio Iris Shot, Violet Shot (both Ida Meister reviewed here), and Rose Shot – all inspired by Roberto Greco photographs, and signed by Master Parfumer Dominique Ropion. The artistic cross-pollination we are witnessing here is fascinating by itself: when a top-notch creative director in perfumery – Celine Verleure, a Master of Flowers perfumer, and an exceptional photographer (and a herbalist) unite their forces, art begets art, and this new perspective breathes life into the classic perfumery notes!

Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is a dichotomy of light and dark, youthfulness and ripeness, freshness, and depth. Observe the details: drops of dew gliding down the sepal of the flower are shiny pearls that pulse with light in the opening of the fragrance. Their lemony hues are slightly green and piquant and blending seamlessly with pink pepper, bitter without turning sour. The image reflected resembles the dainty and pointed outer parts of the flower that enclose petals, hugging them closely while elevating the bud at the same time.

Inside a Rose, photo edited by Elena Cvjetkovic

The texture of the rose reveals itself in many layers of the ruffled structure and folds that petals create, softened by an inner floral-milky and creamy glow, vivid and luscious like the innermost heart of a rose – that tender spot with clusters of anthers that all the petals curve around, hiding and protecting it. It’s a lush cocoon that pulls you in and envelops you fully, protective and comforting at the same time.  And as in a reverse motion to anthesis, this powerful opening of the flower bud once the sensitivity of the tender parts of a rose has been exposed, the scent unfurls rich facets of a full-blooded Turkish rose of a captivating, and ever so subtly elegant allure. The heart of Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is delicious yet with a fine balance of bitter and peppery tones, smoothed out by lactones. It’s delicious but without prominent sweetness, with an air of refreshing youthfulness.  It feels like someone extremely good looking and unaware of their beauty or all the attention they attract, unpretentiously radiant, and sensual at the same time.

And when you begin to think that there’s no end to this moment captured in time, you’ll feel soft woody tones, tiny and swirling wisps of smoke, and a suggestion of wet, mossy earth. Many hours later, because M. Ropion – one of the most talented perfumers alive –  who is also well known for the sillage and longevity of the perfumes he creates… the trail of fragrance becomes muskier, with cleaner nuances that linger on.

Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is youthful, refreshing, and elegant at the same time – a fragrance with power, but not the kind that intimidates, a wholesome experience that’s impressive and still very easy to wear; a worthy addition to the wonderful Sepia Collection

Notes: Italian Bergamot, Manila Elemi, Madagascar Pink Pepper, Turkish Rose Essence, White Flowers Lactones, Atlas Cedarwood, Wood Mosses, Paraguay Guaiac Wood.

A “dewy…piquant…bitter” rose fragrance sounds like a worthy addition to anyone’s wardrobe.

I own several Olfactive Studio scents. My favorites are Ombre Indigo, Chambre Noire, and (controversially) Selfie.

I live in Nashville, TN, USA.

  • Chambre Noire still probably my fav from the brand – incidentally a great one for the autumn – but I’m intrigued with the bitter and peppery tones in this one. I’ve long been a fan of the signature aromatic brightness in Cartier’s Declaration d’un Soir, and it seems that Ropion has certainly filled out the freshness with earthy facets in Rose Shot. Smoothed out with lactones of course. Couldn’t agree more that he’s one of the most talented perfumers alive! Number 2 on my long list of most distinguished noses. Canada.

  • IcarusMidAir says:

I really appreciated Elena’s invitation to ponder on the little things we might take for granted otherwise, and how that invitation blossomed into an intriguing and beautiful description of what sounds like a gem of a fragrance: centred around a favourite note too!

I have sampled a handful of the offering from Olfactive Studio, and at the moment, my favourite is Lumiere Blanche.

    I’m based in Romania.

  • I loved the depth of the review , it seemed to match the nuance and breadth of the scent itself so it was a fantastic accompanying piece to the perfume itself and to learn more about it.
My favourite from the house is chypre shot.

    I’m from Ireland. EU

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Thanks for this draw. I love this perfume house, my favourite is Chamber Noir and Still Life. I love the rose and pepper Combination, and the bottles. I live in the EU.

  • Such a great review by Elena. Very clear and direct description of the notes and how the olfactory experience changes as the fragrance dries down. I love the notes in this perfume, but also I know that it must be amazing given who the perfumer is. I haven’t tried any of the perfumes from this brand, but I always loved their bottles! Especially the new ones with leather around the bottle. I live in Illinois, US.

  • I have tested almost all the fragrances in the regular collection and liked them all, but I have yet to test any from the Sepia collection. I would love to try Rose Shot.
    Thank you!

  • Love the collaboration of different artists working together to create something special. My personal Olfactive Studio favorite is Flash Back, but I’m looking forward to trying the new Sepia Trilogy. I live in Oregon/US. Thank you for the draw.

  • Shamrock1313 says:

Haven’t tried the house, but the details in the review makes it sound wonderful.

  • Andrei Artimon says:

Really love the contrast and dept of the review , never tryed nothing from the houee , would really love to be on the winning end of this one , new york , usa .

  • Awesome review, i already have an olfactive picture in my mind after reading the description. I’ve had the chance to test three perfumes from the shot collection and i enjoyed each one of them, great quality. Still, i must say that my favourite was Chyphre Shot, an amazing, intoxicating fragrance. Thank you very much for the chance to win a full bottle, i’m in the EU.

  • It is the little gestures of kindness that bring happiness and fulfillment. True words for troubled times. I like a fresh, not too sweet rose fragrance and the pepper and bitter elements sound like a nice counterbalance. The Olfactive Shot series reminds me of Tauer’s Flash series of scents. I’ve not tried any Olfactive Studio fragrances yet. Commenting from MD, US.

  • patrick_348 says:

I loved how Elena made discussion of the rose and its fragrance seem like something new and unfamiliar. She took a familiar note and made it sound special, which it indeed will be if her description of Rose Shot is accurate. I liked how she described how the rose was complemented by notes of wood, smoke, and earth. And I thought Roberto Greco’s photograph was super. I am not familiar with Olfactive Studio fragrances, and live in the US, in North Carolina.

  • Rose perfumes are always a great choice. Thank you, Ms Elena, for reminding us that the little things are important and should be treasured. I enjoy several fragrances from Olfactive Studio, one of which is Still Life in Rio. Thanks for another great draw! Mich USA

  • As far as I know, I’ve never tried anything from Olfactive Studio. I’m interested in winning/trying “Rose Shot”. Elena’s article caused me to want to become familiar with perfumer, M. Ropion’s work. It sounds like it has good overall performance, and I’m interested in seeing if it is as Elena has described it. I live in MD., U.S.A.

  • I like how it portraits the rose a living object. I haven’t tried Olfactive Studio yet neither do I have a rose centric scent. It sounds a must try since it’s by Ropion. (USA)

  • impromptu1992 says:

I love how she’s described these softly textured layers of this perfume which peel away to reveal this frozen moment in time unfurling its languid beauty, and how it just keeps giving when you think you’ve discovered all there is to discovery, it shows you something new. Sounds beautiful.
I’ve not smelled the brand but am familiar with it.
    From Texas with love
    Xoxo

  • Thank you Elena for this tribute to a rose. I was compelled by the fact that in the fragrance progression, you encountered soft woody notes since my second favorite from Olfactive Studio is Woody Mood – my favorite so far is Close Up but it sounds like Sepia Rose Shot could take it’s place. I’m in Texas

  • “Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is youthful, refreshing, and elegant at the same time – a fragrance with power, but not the kind that intimidates, a wholesome experience that’s impressive and still very easy to wear; a worthy addition to the wonderful Sepia Collection”

Sounds pretty good , well said Elena.
Fragrances engulfed with vail of sophistication.
I do have in my collection 100ml bottles of Close Up and Ombre Indigo. Both I like equally, depending on the mood. Thankfully the rumors of Ombre Indigo discontinuation were debunked by the owner/ s on Instagram.
Back and forth between USA and Scotland, one week in US -> one week in Scotland, and so on. Basically both USA and EU/UK at the same time

Notes: Italian Bergamot, Manila Elemi, Madagascar Pink Pepper, Turkish Rose Essence, White Flowers Lactones, Atlas Cedarwood, Wood Mosses, Paraguay Guaiac Wood. A beautiful piece by Elena I enjoyed the concept of capturing a moment in photography intrigued me the most. I love Roses in perfumery sounds like a winner to me. A house that I am not familiar with I am afraid. Thanks a million from the United Kingdom

  • A single gesture of kindness, a right word said at the right time, an act of understanding and accepting, a smile in complete strangers eyes, the first whiff of a beloved perfume in the morning, a familiar scent on your pillow before you fall asleep, a drop of rain sliding down the still bright pink petal of the last Autumn rose standing: little things that are unique because even if you see them happening again, they shall never be exactly the same. A beautiful description by Elena I am a rose lover so this sounds like a magical concoction. A house that I have got experience with l am afraid. I am intrigued by the perfumer and the notes and concept behind this house. A house that I need to checkout. Thanks a lot from the UK

  • I agree about these strange times. Lately, been seeing my photos from various trips and thought, oh, how I took it for granted. And how I miss planning my next trip. This is sad, but now I am searching for new things that could make me happy. And yes, this way I am starting seeing smaller things and the first smell of perfume in the morning is one of these things that make me smile.
I don’t have anything from Olfactive Studio and haven’t tried it yet.
I am from the EU, Lithuania.

  • Thank you for this indepth review. The description sounds really interesting and unique, definitely not the usual rose fragrance that I’m used to. Dominique Ropion has made some of the best floral fragrances, including my favorite rose/patchouli combo of all time, I believe this one will be nothing less than amazing. I haven’t tried any fragrance from this house yet, I can’t wait to try all of them in Jovoy boutique after the situation gets better.
Thank you for the opportunity of the giveaway, I live in France.

  • I enjoyed how Elena described theperfume while using parts of the rose. Also that she mentioned it being “youthful, refreshing, and elegant at the same time” and also powerful but still easy to wear. Ive tried a sample of Chypre Shot which was very nice. Id love to try this one as well as Vanilla Shot and Iris Shot. Also, Lumiere Blanche and Still Life In Rio are others that have caught my interest over time. Thank you from CT USA for the generous draw.

  • Sorohan Adriana says:

I love roses and the joy of living they offer, triantáfyllo, “thirty sheets”, thirty thoughts and feelings one for each petal.
the rose in this perfume is fascinating and suggestive described in this review: “The texture of the rose reveals itself in many layers of the ruffled structure and folds that petals create, softened by an inner floral-milky and creamy glow, vivid and luscious like the innermost heart of a rose – that tender spot with clusters of anthers that all the petals curve around, hiding and protecting it. • Sounds like a very nice composition. I love the rose in perfumery and it would be interesting for me to try this fragrance. I like the detail of the narrative and the main message of the article – to see the perfect in the little things in Elena’s review. This is what we are missing now.
I tried two fragrances by Olfactive Studio – Woody Mood and Autoportrait, which are quite nice!
    Wisbech, UK

  • I am a rose fan, so even though I haven’t tried this house yet, I would love to try Rose Shot – love the name already:). Elena’s review comes right on time to make us a bit more grateful and appreciate the little things as the winter is settling in this part of the world and the times we’re living aren’t looking too bright.
I like Ropion’s work a lot as well, his rose in Portrait of a Lady is one of my favorites.
Thank you for the give away. I am in Romania, EU

  • I have the Jungle from Kenzo and treasure it. Rose Shot begins its journey in an unexpected manner before surprising the wearer with a woody twist in the end. I like woody elements even if they do not dominate the entirety of the fragrance journey. My favorite from Olfactive Studio is Lumiere Blanche which I acquired just few months ago this year. USA

  • Lot of interesting notes in this one. Also pretty bottle. Please count me in. Thank you kindly!

  • Thank you for the draw.I really love the notes description and the packaging.Really beautiful photos in this review.I have never sampled this brand before.I live in Italy

  • Amanda32828 says:

I love this review. The details about the olfactory notes made out of this creation another fantastic masterpiece from Master perfumer Dominique Ropion. Currently I haven’t smelled anything from Olfactive Studio yet although I have smelled some of the other creation of Mr. Ropion. I’ll love to add this fragrance to my growing collection, this fragrance really sounds delicious. Thank you for the opportunity to participate. Commenting from Orlando, Fl.

    Thank you

  • I liked how Elena matched the scent to a personality, an appearance – I think it really captured the mood of the fragrance! I would love to try it 🙂

My favourite Olfactive Studio fragrance is Woody Mood, and I live in the UK!

  • The Plum Girl says:

Thank you for all your lovely comments, and good luck! I just wanted to add that I always tend to describe rose-centered perfumes based on their “personality”. It just wouldn’t be enough to say that this perfume is a “woody-rose”, because there’s so much more to it: it definitely has a character, but the sort that blends and not overrides your own. And it lasts…and lasts.

  • valentinaghi says:

I love Elena’s reviews because they have a romantic special air. I adore Sepia. I live in Romania.

  • m.r.everything says:

I remember a year or two ago when the first 3 “shot” fragrances came out by Olfactive Studio… I was so excited as Bertrand Duchafour is one of my favorite perfumers. To see him as the perfumer for such an exciting, unique, and niche brand really piqued my interest. I have smelled several of Olfactive’s fragrances and have loved every one. In fact, two of them are on my “Must Buy” list… Chambre Noire and Ombre Indigo are such phenomenal scents that I really don’t know why they are not in my collection yet. I have had several samples of both of these and absolutely adore them. When I saw that “shot” series come out, I knew they were going to be great… being by such a fantastic brand coupled with such a wonderful perfumer… however, other things have gotten in the way and I never made it around to trying the “shot” series. Here we are, a little while later and another round of “shots” has come out. I really need to get my nose on them… this Rose Shot is right up there with all the others I want to try. Elena highlighted the scent perfectly in this review and I am glad she chose the rose one to tell us about today. It sounds like such a beauty. Thank you Elena, for your take and thoughts on Olfactive Studio’s Rose Shot. A huge thanks to Olfactive Studio for your generosity and for this amazing opportunity. As always, thank you to Michelyn for making this all possible. You are appreciated more than you know! Sending warm wishes and gratitude from Delaware, US! Good luck all and stay safe my fragrant friends!

  • I simply love Olfactive Studio’s fragrances and this one, I’m more than sure that it is fantastic because it bears the signature of a genius, one of my favorite perfume masters in the world. The description is intriguing and makes me think of a sunny fall day, with golden leafs and rays of sun gazing between the trees.

  • Thanks for another great review, Elena! In this time of the pandemic, I also have learned to appreciate small things and gestures. It makes all things beautiful as we live our day to day lives considering the limitations. I am a huge rose lover and your description of the scent is truly amazing. I would love to win this draw. I have tried Olfactive Studio and my favorite is Chambre Noire. Thanks for this opportunity. – CA, USA

  • Hello, I live in the USA in Florida. What I loved about this review was the in depth visual description of the scent… how it opens up like the inside of a rose, soft and milky like, with a floral creaminess Thats youthful, refreshing, and elegant at the same time. How it is a fragrance with power but not intimidating. Then as it develops, it opens up to soft woody tones, with hints of smokiness, then becoming a little muskier. I love a good floral rose scent, especially one that has depth as this one suggests. And with the sillage and longevity that this is said to have, wow, it is a banger that I NEED in my collection! I have never smelled any fragrances from this house before and would love for this to be my first one! I have heard nothing but great things from the brand, and sure this will become my favorite!! Thanks for a great opportunity, this one sounds amazing!!!

  • What a beautiful, descriptive review. The thing that really gets me is all of the dichotomous facets. Youthful, refreshing, and elegant too. I don’t think I’ve ever tried an Olfactive Studios fragrance. I live in the U.S.

  • “It feels like someone extremely good looking and unaware of their beauty or all the attention they attract, unpretentiously radiant, and sensual at the same time” – a simple yet successful attitude, I believe, and if the perfume has the same vibe, it must be a great confidence booster.
    Never tried Olfactive Studio before.
    I am in the EU.
    Thanks!

  • “you’ll feel soft woody tones, tiny and swirling wisps of smoke, and a suggestion of wet, mossy earth”
That sounds amazing and very sensual, thank you Elena for your impression and your lovly way to describe this fragrance.
I never had the chance to try this house and would love to win this one, to get into their olfactory.
    I am from EU.
    Stay healthy out there! Greetings

  • AlwaysWater says:

Love the description of this rose as being unpretentiously radiant! I watched one of Sebastian’s reviews for Chypre shot and was able to receive a sample of it. You’re right about the sillage being amazing. It ended up being too masculine for me so I passed it on, but I was impressed with it’s unique ingredients and richness. USA

  • The woody, wispy smoke bits won me over. I’d love to give this one a try! My bottle of Still Life is in heavy rotation during the warmer months, and for the occasional pick me up when it is just too cold and gloomy out.

    I’m in the U.S.

  • My love for roses has been awaken. I can see a rose with my eyes closed, imagine the velvet of the petals and feel the scent. I should definitely pay more attention to details and take more joy from small moments and reading this review was a positive experience for me.
So thank you, Elena for this review, i never tried any Olfactive Studio creations until now.
I would love to own this Rose Shot.
    I live in EU.

  • I really enjoyed the part of the review that compared the fragrance to all of these abstract ideas. It was the quote, “Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is a dichotomy of light and dark, youthfulness and ripeness, freshness, and depth.” It made me really want to try this fragrance. I have not tried any Olfactive Studio fragrances so I do not have a favorite just yet. I live in Florida, US.

  • I very like the review and the pictures of roes. I have never tried anything from this brand, but Sepia Rose Shot sounds very nice, and I like the bottle also. Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • Olfactive Studio is relatively unknown to me, there are so many fascinating elements to collecting fragrances with a Universe of options.
“The heart of Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is delicious yet with a fine balance of bitter and peppery tones, smoothed out by lactones.” This encapsulates the intrigue of this particular bottle for me combined with the incredible photographs makes this composition so desirable.
    Thank you for this opportunity.

    SK, Canada

  • I am definitely a fan of Dominque Ropion’s creations. This sounds like another beauty with its revelation of the rose. Many thanks to Elena for a beautiful review and many thanks to Olfactive Studio for making this draw possible. I’m in the USA.

  • I really love how Elena described the “texture of the rose reveals itself in many layers”. Definitely sounds intriguing.
My favorite Olfactive Studio fragrance is Lumiere Blanche.
    Florida, USA

  • Mmmm, gorgeous review! I could bathe in rose all day if I didn’t have 5 kids, this would transport me to a happy, lovely state anytime during homeschooling!!! I adore rose and it will forever evoke my Oma from Germany and memories of her! Thank you for the opportunity to experience this! Im in Colorado USA

  • I loved the description of the dichotomous nature of this fragrance, which features a rose that appears to be gorgeous. Beautiful photos by Roberto Greco. I haven’t tried the creations from Olfactive Studio but would, of course, love to. In the USA.

  • I really enjoyed that Elena went into the background of the fragrance because I loved reading about the story for this fragrance. I think Olfactive Studios is so unique when it comes to making perfumes and Rose Shot definitely peaks my interest. Although I am familiar with the brand, I have yet been given the opportunity to smell on of their creations. Kind regards from Illinois, USA.

  • The only life lesson I have to teach is that kindness, compliments, and good manners will get you just about anything you want.
Existing is a challenge and sometimes we can’t be truthful to who we are. Let’s treasure the gift of living and share rather than possesing inanimate and soulless objects. Cherish simplicity, friends, family and explore the invisible world hiden around us. The sense of smell is can bring endless emotions and create happy memories as refered in Elena Cvjetkovic’s article. Olfactive Studio Sepia Rose by master Dominique Ropion a very interesting fragrance a combination of white flowers, woods pink pepper spicing the rose, green overtones, absolutley wonderful.
I love the idea of combining other art expresions together and in this case the photograhs of Robert Greco string along with the imaginary vision of the scent. Thank you. Ireland,EU

  • I once swapped a fragrance with Roberto Greco. He is a wonderful photographer and he sent me a additional sample of the perfume Œillères. His perfume (which is also very lovely) was created by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato. That to the side, I loved reading Elena’s review. Sepia Rose Shot reads like a very elegant perfume with wonderful ingredients. I’m a huge lover of roses in perfumes. I live in EU. Thanks to Olfactive Studio and Cafleurebon for this wonderful draw.

  • This interesting dewy rose fragrance sounds beautiful. I loved Elena’s words regarding fragrance and how we treat people. Good practices. I havent tried any of the fragrances from Olfactive studio but would love to . My favorite flower is rose. It’s beauty, color , and smell are a delight. Thank you for the chance to try. USA

  • Enjoyed the photos and the attention to detail that Elena alludes to in her review of Rose Shot by Olfactive Studio. Things have slowed down now and that certainly gives us a chance to experience the world slowly and deeply and carefully, and thus actually enjoy it much more. Liked what Elena says here – “by changing us they change how we relate to the world surrounding us, and by changing the way we relate to the outer world, we change the world. Little moments that matter, even if you don’t post them on social media.” So true. I haven’t tried anything by Olfactive Studio, yet, but Rose Shot seems worth savoring and enjoying, one moment at a time. Wonderful notes in the perfume. Thanks for the review and the generous draw. Writing from the USA.

  • Hashim Madani says:

The dichotomies and contrasts (light/dark, freshness/depth) Elena experienced with this fragrance can only mean this is a well-conceived and carefully created rose masterpiece. We sometimes experience fragrances that seem rushed out the door, unfinished or missing an arm or a leg. Seems like Sepia Rose Shot is not one of them. Still Life in Rio is another OS creation I’d love to try. VA, USA.

  • sounds like a fragrance full of contrasts. I’m not a big fan of roses, but this one made me a bit curious.
I don’t remember trying an OS fragrance.
    I am living in Europe.

  • I live in the US and I have not tried any of Olfactive Studio fragrances. I found Elena’s review to be very evocative and I liked this part in particular: “The heart of Olfactive Studio Rose Shot is delicious yet with a fine balance of bitter and peppery tones, smoothed out by lactones. It’s delicious but without prominent sweetness, with an air of refreshing youthfulness. It feels like someone extremely good looking and unaware of their beauty or all the attention they attract, unpretentiously radiant, and sensual at the same time.”

  • Turkish rose is wonderful! I enjoyed the detail in which the fragrance was described – very articulate. I have not tried any from this house yet! From Canada!

  • “And when you begin to think that there’s no end to this moment captured in time, you’ll feel soft woody tones, tiny and swirling wisps of smoke, and a suggestion of wet, mossy earth.”

This review makes the perfume sound like the journey of a rose petal unfurling from its tightly pursed bud, radiating in splendor, and then beginning – but only beginning – its drift to the ground! That beautiful moment when roses are blown and to touch them makes the petals shiver off, but the scent just then – so gorgeous!

I’d love to try this, thank you for the lovely review Elena! I’m in Canada.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thank you for the great review Elena.

I was lucky enough to try a sample from OS trough CFB, when they were giving out free samples. I picked up Chypre shot and fell in love with the fragrance, it’s idea and the execution.

I can’t wait to see what Sepia Rose Shot is all about. Olfactive Studio definitely got it right when they said “Perfumes are angels: they have no gender, but they have a soul.“

    Cheers from WI, USA

As a Rose lover, this was my favorite part of Elena’s review – “The texture of the rose reveals itself in many layers of the ruffled structure and folds that petals create, softened by an inner floral-milky and creamy glow, vivid and luscious like the innermost heart of a rose – that tender spot with clusters of anthers that all the petals curve around, hiding and protecting it. It’s a lush cocoon that pulls you in and envelops you fully, protective and comforting at the same time. And as in a reverse motion to anthesis, this powerful opening of the flower bud once the sensitivity of the tender parts of a rose has been exposed, the scent unfurls rich facets of a full-blooded Turkish rose of a captivating, and ever so subtly elegant allure.”

The only Olfactive Studio I’ve tried is Chypre Shot, which I thought was very good.

  • I don’t own any fragrances from the brand, so I don’t have any favorites, but I like the sound of the rose and pepper combination. Plus the idea that we should enjoy all the little things in life, and not take them for granted is something that resonates with me.

This was such a beautifully written post. I appreciated the reminder to seek beauty, gratitude, and inspiration in even the smallest of things. I’d not heard of this fragrance, so it was very nice to get the back ground on it’s creation. I love that it’s, as Elena says, a “cross-pollination” of artists. The fragrance itself sounds very interesting; the lactones as well as the mossy notes have me very intrigued. Thank you for the giveaway, and beautifully written post. Located in the US.

Elena’s superb review reads like poetry while at the same time being detailed in the depictions of notes, how they intertwine and make the wearer feel. The picture painted sits closely on the border between imagination, olfactive memory and consciousness and feels so live that I can almost smell and taste the perfume. I haven’t tried Olfactive Studio’s creations so far and would be delighted to win Sepia Rose Shot. Based in Ireland

  • Love Olfactive Studio house-own 100ml of Chambre Noire and Ombre Indigo. Chambre Noire is compliment monster on my skin.Every time i’m wearing it i’m getting at least 3-4 compliments-no joke. The best OS i know -huge fan here.
The new Sepia line I have not smelled yet. Studio Shot is undoubtedly modern take on rose , with the Infusion of zingy bergamot and lots of spices
Virginia USA or London UK … at least 97/100 times.

  • During this Covid-19 era truer words have not been spoken with regards to Elenas short discourse on the importance of the little things in our lives. Fragrance has become ever more important to me during this isolation.
I have never tried Any Olfactive Studio fragrances but would sure love to get my nose around Sepia Rose Shot.

Elena, great review of Rose Shot. This one sounds so beautiful capturing every scent profile that a rose can project and adding some added depth to really make this fragrance special. I love the Olfactive Studio concept of creating a perfume focusing on one specific note or accord. I have tried a sample of Chypre Shot and I was veru impressed with the quality of the fragrance. I am from Ohio, USA.

  • Yes I do know Olfactive Studio . I was really impressed by Lauryn Beer review of Leather Shot for Cafleurebon , bought a sample and soon after a bottle. Please try it guys , if you’re not already. Funny thing is Leather Shot and Rose Shot have cedar in it in the background.
From Rose Shot i expect lush semi voluptuous, semi elegant rose with spicy woods in the base.
    Such a generous giveaway.
USA most of the year, and Germany from time to time

  • Thank you for this beautiful review. The description sounds really amazing and unique. Rose fragrances can be jammy and cloying or light and airy. Dominique Ropion is the master of rose. His creation Portrait of a Lady is amazing. I believe this one will be nothing less than great. I haven’t tried any fragrance from this house yet, I can’t wait to try all of them in Jovoy boutique after the lockdown is over.
Thank you for the opportunity of the giveaway. USA

  • A Shot of rose is something we all need right now to ease our worries at leastnanlittle bit. Elena’s review is a great marriage between words, photographs and scent.

Still Life by Olfactive Studio is one of my most used office friendly , not overly complicated, yet pleasing fragrances .
I really wonder how Rose Shot will compare to it. I know I’m comparing oranges and apples, but the 2 share the spices, the cedar, elemi and both have fresh citruses in their composition.
Leather sleeve collection is new to me
    Thank you for the opportunity
    USA , rarely Paris France

  • Definitely unconventional fragrance. Lactonic rose mixed with spices , woods and basically no sweetness , you don’t see everyday.
Olfactive Studio is completely new brand to me. I’ll look for sample set
Thank you Elena ,and Olfactive Studio for the generosity. USA

  • I have not experienced any Olfactive Studio fragrances but this series sounds beautiful. I adore rose fragrances and I particularly like the youthful quality that is described and the manner in which the scent evolves. I live in Kansas, US

I wasn’t aware of these “Shots”. And those bottles are beautiful. I love rose and your description of bitter, pepper, and lactones. I have not experienced this house. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • Elena’s reviews are always eloquent and from the heart. She writes what she feels and she writes from the heart. That is what I love about her reviews.
I won Still Life in Rio, Panorama and Woody Mood from Olfactive Studio – love all three.
I live in Terneuzen, Zeeland Province, The Netherlands.

  • Chambre Noire , most famous Olfactive Studio fragrance as far as I know, is straight gorgeous. To me it smells exactly like slightly over baked traditional Vinarterta cake with homemade plum jam. I feel like it was made to emulate the smell of Vinarterta, or at least have the same vibe. Pastry Chef In the house.
Bertrand Duchaufour cooked something interesting with Rose Shot.
Contemporary spicy rose , both light and dark , youthful, but reaching out to the classics.
Appreciate Elena review, and the giveaway campaign.

First of all – i love the name, Rose Shot. I’ve never been a big fan of floral scents, so I desperately look for some floral fragrance that could encourage me to buy one. Having read this review I came to conclusion that Rose Shot might be a perfect match. I like the bottle, despite if i didn’t know about Rose Shot i wolud have said it’a a kind of leathery, masculine fragrance. This rewiev made me intrested in Oflactve Studio. Poland,EU

  • Dominique Ropion knows how to create rose fragrances, he’s the creator ot the best rose fragrance in history,
Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle .
I have no doubts Rose Shot will be one to remember.
Martin Hill i know too , he’s really accomplished landscape artist and photographer .
Close-Up I find to be exceptional perfume I’m happy to have. Smells boozy and bitter sweet with a cherry liqueur – tonka nuances, and woody-coffee dry down.
    Exciting giveaway, USA

I have always been a big fan of Still Life in Rio from Olfactive Studio. I am a fan of roses, but I have never found a rose fragrance that really agrees with my body chemistry. But the way Elena described the layers and textures of Sepia Rose Shot makes me think that this creation will be the one for me.

Great article! I have always loved the connections formed between photography and fragrance in the Olfactive Studio line. Zooming in on a moment is a very interesting idea to explore through perfumery. I have tried a decent number from the line, and I think Chambre Noir is my favorite. My sister wears it, and I can always tell when she is. It is so striking and bold!
The packaging is beautiful as well, simple and elegant.

    I’m from Canada.

  • I liked how Elena describes this interpretation of a rose with a bit of youth and sophistication. I haven’t tried any Olfactive Studio fragrances. I live in the USA.
