The NY NOW Retail Winter 2020 Event was held on February 1-5th. The trade-only show happens twice a year and features over 2,300+ exhibitors that participate from over 66 countries. Events include the Handmade Opening Party, a Fashion Runway Show, Awards Night Party, Onsite Sweepstakes, NY NOW Talks, Free Wine Tastings, Wellness Talks, Happy Hours, Book Signings, and Meet and Greets.

Trends spotted: brands having a CBD component, use natural and/ or vegan formulations, and respecting animals by being cruelty-free, giving back to animal causes, and product lines formulated for canine and feline healthcare.

Fragrance forward luxury scent brand NEST has changed their name to NEST NEW YORK. A new initiative is its expansion into Body Care. Always setting a most scented environment which demonstrates why they lead in this sector. New Collection for Spring will be AMALFI LEMON & MINT and MEDITERRANEAN FIG debuted.

The Naked Bee (Elizabethton, TN) only uses sustainable high-quality ingredients that are Paraben-Free and never tested on animals. Products such as Lip Balm, Sunscreen, Shampoos, Conditioners, Body Wash, and Soaps come in over ten scent combinations. They are on a mission to help Save the Bees by raising awareness about the declining bee population.

I always make a point to visit the storied house of Carthusia. With over 23 scents in the line, from the classic Fiori di Capri (1948) to the most recent Tuberosa (2019), they all captivate. Many of the more recent fragrances were composed in collaboration with perfumers Luca Maffei and Laura Bosetti Tonatto.

Francois Duquesne’s booth  was the center of attention from  fragrance loving attendees. Maison Duquesne develops and manufacture scented boutique brands and builds out its  their distribution network. The list of brands includes some of our favorites:  Olfactive StudioKeiko MecheriShay & Blue, Chris Collins, The House of Oud, Aedes de Venustas, NEZ the Olfactory Magazine, and new additions, JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset (launching March 2020).

West Third Brand (Austin, TX) has been developing vintage Americana driven scents since 2008 and the brand now has over fifty fragrances in the collection. All are hand-crafted in small batches. Three new scents were debuted, EDT Love Letters, Strange Magic, and EDP Flower Child.

Natural Luxury with Pure Purpose ™: Jon Bressler, Founder, and President of LAFCO New York was a pioneer of luxury fragrance and candles using traditional European apothecary as a model.   • Thanks for the report. Sho Layered caught my eye since I have started to get into layering, and I generally prefer more discreet scents which are characteristic of most Japanese fragrances. Accompanying body lotion is an added bonus as well, since it helps prolong longevity. Regards from Boston USA.

  • The essence of Harris caught my eye, candles, Scotland, love both. I have really love naked bee products, lip balm especially. It is nice to know they add to the effort to help bees. I guess it should not surprise me but it never crossed my mind as I stocked up on the lip balm, I just loved the balm.

  • I want the water-based perfumes by Antoine Lee! If it’s Lie it must be something cool and revolutionary. I don’t think I am really into CBD skincare. :)))

  • The Aamelia Skincare line caught my eye because of products that work, look good, and are environmentally conscious. I was also happy to see Carthusia amongst the houses. From the USA.

    Hernando sure has a great job! What fun. So many interesting companies I need to look into. Always interested in Carthusia. I liked the repurposed wine bottle candles. Lots of earth friendly options. Not too interested in the CBD products, seems like everyone wanted to get on that bandwagon. I recently learned that growing the hemp is very water intensive. Thanks for sharing the event with us. I’d love to try these products. USA.
