Keiko Mecheri launched her eponymous perfume brand in 1997, and she has been creating well-received perfumes ever since. The line is not very available to me as far as just going to sniff them, but meeting her this past March at Esxence helped to expand my horizons. I finally smelled all the fragrances in the Loukhoum series, and was also able to procure a sample of her latest fragrance, Bois Satin, which I immediately liked. Keiko used her iconic perfume Loukhoum as a starting point and made it more sensuous and adult.

As soon as I applied Bois Satin to my skin, I immediately thought, “This is an amazingly intimate perfume.” It is not quiet – the saffron and vanilla are front-and-center, with dashes of mandarin – but it felt very personal, like only I could smell like this. This a rosy riff on her Loukhoum fragrances, but expanded to be deeper and less candied. I felt elegant all day, and extra-feminine. As the fragrance develops, it becomes more infused with amber, and softer. I could smell it all day, and really enjoyed it.

I had to think about my initial reaction to this fragrance, of finding it to be intimate. Somehow it brought my mind to a place of thinking that this is how a woman should smell in intimate moments. I wouldn’t say this is a sexy perfume in the traditional sense. There isn’t a big animal presence, or narcotic flowers to cause a swoon. Rather, it’s a more real kind of sexy. Sometimes you will see a well-groomed, well-coiffed lady of a certain age, and as she passes by you notice that she is wearing beautiful perfume that makes you realize that as put-together as she looks, there is still a sexual being there. It’s that kind of sexy. Intimate in the way that it’s not a perfume of seduction, but of a well-oiled, long-term romance.

I’m very glad to have met Keiko, and also glad that I was able to get a taste of this elegant fragrance. I want to delve deeper into Keiko’s world, and smell more of her offerings.

Notes: Sicilian mandarin, Saffron, Vanilla pods, Jasmine, Rose, Suede, Patchouli, Amber

My sample was provided by Keiko Mecheri. Bois Satin is available at Lucky Scent, for $115 for 75 ml.

I have never tried a Keiko Mecheri perfume or read much about them (and there are so many)! The notes in Bois Satin appeal to me and I would like to try a sample. I am in the US.

  • This statement appealed to me:” not a perfume of seduction, but of a well-oiled, long-term romance.” Sound absolutely beautiful. I love Keiko’s Bespoke collections as well, must say one of my go-to-summer fragrances is Mihime! I am in the US, Thanks to Luckyscent for the sample draw..

  • I have never tried any of Keiko’s perfumes, but I have heard many good things about them 🙂 I love me a good vanilla and amber perfume and you can’ never have too many, right? I am in the US, thanks!

  • What an interesting description you weave around this perfume. It makes me anxious to seek it out! It doesn’t sound much like Loukham to me. I am in the /US

  • This sounds beautiful- how could one not want to try this perfume from your description? It sounds worth experiencing. I’ve tried Loukhoum and Peau de Peche from Keiko Mecheri, and while I liked both, neither were ‘me’.

  • I would love to try this! Keiko is a master when it comes to unique rose fragrances! I love the entire Loukhoum series, the Eau Poudree being my favorite. I am in the US.

I’ve never tried any Keiko Mecheri, though I’d like to. Bois Satin sounds lovely. It’s a collection of many of my favorite notes, for one thing. I love the images that were chosen for the post, too, and that’s the kind of sexy that I really like. Thanks for the draw. In the US. . .

  • Not yet came across any of this line to try. I find the possibilities of the vanilla pods/rose combo appealing. US…

  • I haven’t had access to this line to give it a sniff. This particular one sounds lovely and I appreciate that it’s not over the top, knock you upside the head dead sexy. Sounds very classy and feminine. Would love to sample this, thanks for the draw!

  • Fazal Cheema says:

I have heard about her Loukhoum fragrance which is often mentioned alongside Lutens Loukhoum..but the one i have from her line is Patchoulissime..i wonder if Bois Satin is a variation on Loukhoum, is it relatively more wearable by men. I am in the US

  • This scent sounds like a beautiful story, each chapter another aspect of Bois Satin. I do not (yet) have a favorite of the Keiko Mecheri line and so would love to try this. I live in Connecticut, USA.

  • What I like about Bois Satin is it seems from Tama’s take on it – it’s sophisticated sexy. My favorite Keiko fragrance is Oliban. I love Fleur de Peau, too. Thank you!

  • What appeals to me about Bois Satin is the mix of rose, jasmin, and suede. I am a sucker for those three notes. Mi favorite KM fragrance is Savile. I find it understated, fresh, and comforting.

Thanks for the draw! I am located in the US

  • Peau de Peche is the only one I have tried so far, so it’s my favorite 🙂 (yes I like it). Love to have this Bois Satin because you never know what a perfume with rose in it will be like until you sniff it. US

  • The intimacy and vanilla+saffron appeal to me the most!
Other favorite KM is Genie des Bois, which feels very ‘me’ and real and witchy-foresty but also soft and gentle, if that makes any sense. Also own and like Oliban.

  • I think I would love this because I adore Loukhoum, that and Gourmandises are my favorites. I love the sound of Bois satin, that it is a “real” kind of sexy. I like Luckyscent on FB and I’m in the U.S.

  • Thanks for a great review. Bois Satin sounds beautiful and perhaps smelling elegant might make me feel more elegant. I don’t think I’ve had the opportunity to sample any of Keiko Mecheri’s fragrances yet. Thanks for the draw.
