Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose review

Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose photo by Nicoleta©

“How peaceful life would be without Love, Adso. How Safe. How Tranquil. And how Dull.”  Il nome Della Rosa, Umberto Ecco

Allow me to paraphrase the quote above and say – how dull my life would be without the presence of the almighty rose!  “Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose” and I have nothing but love and enthusiasm for any scent that has the magical note woven in its pyramid: smeared with lipstick, smoked in incense, covered in chocolate, deeply buried in patchouli, dipped in oud or scattered along wood nervures, it’s all good to me. Be them the main character or just whispering in the corners,  I can never have too much – from the bright dewy pick petals of the green ones all the way to the crimson benighted gothic petals, and everything in-between –  color me interested

But a hazy rose? Made by Senor Monegal himself? Be still my heart!

At dawn, when the darkness begins to fade with the incipient light and the warmth of the sun gains intensity, the silhouette of the wild rose is blurred against the light. The dew that wets its petals evaporates in the heat of the sun’s rays and creates an aura around it that moves capriciously in the morning breeze. The curiosity inherent in my profession pushes me to approach and savor this queen just when she wakes up and her scent is unique. My instinct guides me to the moment when the queen’s heart is uncovered to enter, between dew and gloom, to steal her reason for being “The primary instinct of the wild rose is to release fragrant vapors that envelop it in a subtle haze. The instinct of the master is to pierce the aura of the rose to capture, in a chord, that instinct.”-Ramon Monegal

Wearing  Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose the first time felt like tracing a sigil on my skin, each olfactive path drawing me into a maze of associations.  A soft cloud, with blurred fuzzy edges envelopes you in a magical aura from beginning to end, smooth, dreamy, strangely familiar, like a dream that you have forgotten but whose presence lingers on your skin.

The Soul of the Rose by J.W. Waterhouse detail wiki

Like the coolness of night air still kept in the morning dew that covers the petals of a wildflower, a soft fresh buzz rises to the surface: ginger, saffron, prickly pepper, and lemony sparkles. They gather intensity, waking you up, making your skin buzz with tiny pins and needles tingling at your nostrils, just like a limb that has started moving after a long period of numbness.

The calm before the storm.

The feeling of just being on top of the iceberg is prevalent now. For it translated to me those eerily calm moments when the sea becomes a still mirror, reflecting the heavy sky above, just before the raging winds will turn the waves into tongues of angry serpents. That absolute contemplative stillness, your slowed down heartbeat echoing, muffled in your ears just before jumping into the unknown. The glitched time frames, slowed to a still, air electrified and dense. Just before that first kiss happens. Or not.

The Soul of the Rose by J.W. Waterhouse wiki

A hushed mixture of musks, with sensual deep floral facets, makes room for the star: a ruffled deep-voiced feral rose who comes in accompanied by a very naughty carmel, kept on a tight leash.  Not sweet but with enough of a promise to make your mouth water, with seductive smoky frankincense and silky oud, we are treading on sheer sensual territory now. Still, things are perfectly poised, balanced by a woody structure that keeps it elegant and proper, giving an aristocratic twist to this delicious hazy debauchery.

Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose is new for 2022

Photo of Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose by Nicoleta©

Sniffing this part of Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose, I had a clear image of a feather dipped into the ink well bottle, raised up in the air, and writing with perfect calligraphy: seduction. Between the tender, the explicit and the suggested, the main theme is seduction – in its best, deep and most sensuous fragrant form.   In the drydown things become more soothing and inwardly centered, deepening around a woody, sweet and resinous heart. Perfume precedes presence, and lingers on in absence.

Notes: Top: Indian Ginger, Spanish Saffron, Cashmeran, Magnolia grandiflora;Heart: Rose Damask, Pink Pepper Reunion, Cedarwood Virginia, Frankincense Somalia; Base: Benzoin Siam, Yugoslavian Oak moss, Musk cocktail, Caramel

Thanks for the draw. Based in the EU

  • I love rose fragrances! The review sparked my interest in the different interpretations of rose fragrances, especially this hazy and seductive rose fragrance. So unique! I live in CA, USA.

Nicoleta always writes such beautiful reviews! The part that got me was her description: “A hushed mixture of musks, with sensual deep floral facets, makes room for the star: a ruffled deep-voiced feral rose who comes in accompanied by a very naughty carmel, kept on a tight leash.” I so want to try it!
    Hugs from Croatia, EU.

  • The amazing notes of the fragrance and how unique it is sparks my interest. I live in Poland, EU.

  • Nicoleta had me at rose, musk, and caramel. Like stated, this scent sounds like seduction at its best. Nicoleta had me thinking I was reading a sexy fragrance Novel. Have never sampled or won any Ramon Monegal fragrance and this beauty would be a heck of a way to start 😉 I live in MD, USA

  • I love Ramon Monegal and thanks for the links to the other reviews.
    Hazy Rose sounds quite unusual
    USA

  • Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose seems like it is a rose composition in oriental style that ends on a woody note. When I started perfume journey, I never thought I would enjoy rose perfumes but a lot of evolution has happened since then. While I enjoy rose perfumes that are transparent, I think I like such rose perfumes more that add abstract touches to the composition. I am in US.

  • Feral rose? Naughty caramel? Hazy debauchery? Yes, please! If this fragrance is half as gorgeous as this review, I am in heaven.

  • Nicoleta’s review on Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose made me definitely want to smell this seduction frag

  • GennyLeigh says:

Who doesn’t like a little seduction in their perfume? The gourmand rose with spice, resins and woods sounds intoxicating. Nicoleta always makes her reviews interesting and personal. I can see myself wearing and living Hazy Rose. MD, USA.

Can’t wait to get my nose on this one.
Sounds like another winner from Ramon Monegal.

  • I’m a fan of Ramon Monegal fragrances. Two of my favs are Kiss My Name and Flamenco. My mother tended her fabulous rose garden, all started from cuttings, for years and they grew like trees. The scent of roses will always remind me of her. I liked that Hazy Rose sounds unique, the notes are intriguing, and I love that bottle. Thanks for the opportunity to sniff. Mich USA

  • Strangely, the supporting notes in this perfume are almost more exciting than the featured rose. The opening of “ginger, saffron, prickly pepper, and lemony sparkles” definitely piqued my interest in this fragrance. It would be a pleasure to try this perfume. ~Indiana, USA

  • hshinkoda says:

Beautiful review!!!! Nicoleta’s words always transports me to a new adventure, new places!!!! I love perfumes that are sexy, seductive!!!! Stunning bottle and based on the notes (I love ginger, safron and caramel!) the just is absolutely perfect!!!! I would love to try Hazy Rose!!!! Massachusetts, US.

  • sephrenia300 says:

Fantastic review Nicoleta! What sparks my interest based on Nicoleta’s review of Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose is her description of it as reminding her of the calm before the storm, the “contemplative stillness” before moments of torrid action, before raging storms and winds or a furious kiss. The idea of this type of suspended intensity interpreted into a fragrance sounds wonderful and intriguing. I can’t wait to try this one. I live in the US.

I love rose fragrances! “The primary instinct of the wild rose is to release fragrant vapors that envelop it in a subtle haze. The instinct of the master is to pierce the aura of the rose to capture, in a chord, that instinct.”-Ramon Monegal describes the perfect rose.
Nicoleta best highlights a rose and her review comes as a perfect complement to this tribute to Ramon Monegal, highlighting a seductive rose.

Everything rose based is on my “to-smell” list. Great review, Ramon Monegal Fragrances are such luxury items, can’t wait to smell them. From Romania, EU.

  • The rose, which has always been a symbol of passion, capturing the essence and making its charm even more powerful is the gift of an artist. This perfume looks divine.

  • What a beautiful blend of notes! I love rose fragrances; from simple to complex. From gentle & feminine to multi-layered & mysterious. This one sounds like a harmony of both! I was so intrigued by the description ” I had a clear image of a feather dipped into the ink well bottle, raised up in the air, and writing with perfect calligraphy”. I haven’t had the pleasure of ever trying anything from this perfume house. I’d be thrilled for this to be my first.
    I live in the USA.

  • Also totally a swooner for any and all roses here! I haven’t yet smelled any of his fragrance abut hope I can, soon. I would love to smell ginger and saffron as morning dew. Thank you for the review, writing from the EU.

  • Laurentiu says:

Everything I have tried so far from this house was right up my alley. I like the idea of seduction that stands as a choice for Hazy Rose. Please count me in. EU

  • RiccardoC says:

Wow, what a review! I’m more and more into rose fragrance, and this Ramon Monegal work seems amazing…really curious to see how the frankincense and the caramel work with the rose and the oud.
Thank you for the nice review, hope to try this

  • Just the name Hazy Rose piques my interest and Nicoleta’s review only adds to that. Her review is as seductive as the scent she describes.

  • I am always interested by the different facets in rose-themed fragrances, sounds like a good one! NV, USA.

  • jaysmells says:

I’m most interested in how this caramel note comes into play… “not sweet but with enough of a promise to make your mouth water” just as the smokiness of frankincense comes into the mix as well. I wonder how this rose would wear on my skin—leaning more mature with the frankincense? Dark, sensual, jammy with the oud? Younger and playful with the caramel? Very thought-provoking review!
    USA

  • Sounds like a mysterious rose fragrance. Cool that Monsieur Monegal worked in this himself. Like to get the chance to try it out. Thanks, Ca

  • Got blown up with this review by Nicoleta! All the notes, the accords and how they blend to create this masterpiece created by a Master Perfumeur.
“A hushed mixture of musks, with sensual deep floral facets and the feral rose”, how can’t someone not love this fragrance? I would be so happy to try this fragrance.

  • Dubaiscents says:

Amazing review Nicoleta! Such vivid imagery, I especially love the description of the feather quill poised to write Seduction! I love so many of M. Monegal’s creations and found him to be so down to earth and humble when I met him at a launch in Dubai. I would love to smell this take on rose! Thanks for the draw. US

  • Great review. Sounds amazing. Not sweet but with enough of a promise to make your mouth water, with seductive smoky frankincense and silky oud, we are treading on sheer sensual territory now. I live in Georgia USA. Thanks.

  • Great review Nicoleta, as always! I love Ramon Monegal fragrances, my favourite one is Soul of Oud and this one doesn’t seem like it’s similar in notes, but is in it’s theme – seduction, like nicoleta eloquently put it, so that sparked my interest. I live in Croatia, EU.

  • Jasub Ojeda says:

To be frank, I love the imagery that Nicoleta depicts. Having had rose beds and loving the early morning smell, brought back memories. The other notes definitely sound seductive and spicy. I would love to get my hands on this fragrance, but would face the danger of my mom stealing it

I live in Arizona, USA. I am following both @ramonmonegal and @cafleurebonofficial

  • Bewitching review! Rose is my favorite flower and my most beloved note in fragrances. To have an opportunity to read Nicoleta’s impression about a new Ramon Monegal concoction was such a delight.

Waking up with tingling ginger, elegant saffron, pricky pepper, and sparkling lemons speaks loudly to my taste. A wild rose composition accompanied by a racy camel embraced by seductive frankincense and silky oud sounds like a perfect base.
Seduction in a bottle….A release is just on time since summer is approaching and we all need more than a glimpse of positivity.

Thank you, Nicoleta, for an excellent review and Mr. Monegal for your generosity.
    Greetings from Slovenia (EU)!

  • Wow, Nice review Nicoleta! we know now that any rose perfume interest you, in any kind, company, accent, the rose makes you (and many people) less dull and uninteresting!. Ramón brings us the instant of the waking up of a rose and the unique scent at that moment of the day. Your image of a forgotten dream whose presence lingers on your skin is so vivid and amazing! the notes in the waking up are great: ginger, saffron español, pepper, and lemony. Then a mixture of floral musks open the way to the star of the show: a feral rose with the help of the smoky frankincense and silky oud. A word defines this scent: Seduction! I live in Spain, EU

  • My favourite from the line of Ramon Monegal is Next to Me. I am curious about Hazy Rose as it has some interesting things going on… benzoin, musk, frankincense, rose – does not sound bad to me!
    Thanks a lot! Europe

  • Hazy Rose by Ramon Monegal sounds like a fragrance worth experiencing based on Nicoleta’s review. Talking about the fragrance causing contemplative stillness to being a hushed mixture of musks, floral facets …. very naughty carmel…seduction… but then drying down into a soothing, inwardly centered deepening around woody, sweet and resinous heart.
    Maryland, US.

  • Oh this sounds soooo interesting! Nicoleta thinks of it as the calm before the storm, but also pure seduction and I just cannot imagine how that would smell!

  • This one truly sounds like a rose centric scent and I like the associations described by Nicoleta. I live in EU.

  • Nicoleta’s review of Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose describes it in detail from start to finish. It seems to be a lovely perfume, when one looks at the notes. I also liked the quotes and pictures in Nicoleta’s review. Thanks for the draw. From USA.

  • joetelegram says:

Awesome review and thank you Ramon Monegal for your generosity.

I’m really interested in the combination of caramel, rose, and musk. Don’t think I’ve seen that combo yet! I appreciate the rose in general in perfume, and really want to experience this one. The addition of frankincense and oud would seem to offer an interesting backdrop to this one as well.

    Thank you!

  • I enjoyed the review, but what I liked most was this part:

‘Wearing Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose the first time felt like tracing a sigil on my skin, each olfactive path drawing me into a maze of associations. A soft cloud, with blurred fuzzy edges envelopes you in a magical aura from beginning to end, smooth, dreamy, strangely familiar, like a dream that you have forgotten but whose presence lingers on your skin.’

So poetic… a great perfume can stir up such emotions in the wearer.

  • IvanVelikov says:

Nicoleta Tomsa vibrant review of Hazy Rose almost transported me to Spain, at its full beauty , and glory.
The mixture of spices , oud, rose and sweetness i believe will make Hazy Rose mysterious, and inviting at the same time.
What intrigues me the most , is the the way the perfumer called the wild rose “unique” .
Never had a chance to smell Ramon Monegal fragrances , but I have to say Hazy Rose sounds great
Thank you Nicoleta , and Ramon Monegal

  • Regis Monkton says:

Judging by the list of notes, I would most likely enjoy this fragrance. Certainly, I’ve heard of this fragrance house/perfumer, but I haven’t tried any of his fragrance releases yet. Within the past two years, I’ve added at least a few rose-prominent and/or rose-centric fragrances to my collection, and I’m always wanting to add more, especially if it’s a high-quality one like this one seems to be. I’m interested in trying the sweet rose in combination with the musks, frankincense, and more. I live in the U.S.A.

  • Bubeto_GG says:

Ramon Monegal build his own brand well i believe, relying on heritage, and own creativity and vision.
Hazy Rose i like for its complexity and refinement . With all the rose , ginger , and the sexy caramel , i think the fragrance also has seductive Middle Eastern nature.
The best Ramon Monegal fragrance i think is Mon Patchouly . Half earthy, half chocolate patchouli, with amber and incense .
    Thank you for the opportunity

  • Michael Prince says:

What interests me based on Nicoleta’s review of Ramon Monegal Hazy Rose is how her poem about Roses and other information illustrates how roses have developed and came across in fragrances over time. Hazy Rose sounds delicate and fresh but at the same time resinous and musky. I would love the opportunity to try this fragrance. I am from the USA.

  • Southirina says:

Rose is also my favourite note. I would love to try this one, specially after reading Nicoleta’s review. Thank you for that!
    Hugs from Romania

  • WaltherP99 says:

I was not even aware of Hazy Rose existence, avant-premier indeed.
Trailblazing fragrance , I like its complexity, and the fact the scent is both dark , and inviting at the same time.
Other than the scent, I’m interested in the term “Yugoslavian Oak moss” , I’ve never seen anyone else using it, other than Nicoleta. My memory is very good, and I remember she used it in her Mon Patchouly review, early last year. I presume it’s a term for a quality oakmoss coming one of the ex-Yugoslavia countries, because the
Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia do not exist for 30 years now , even FRY came to an end years before Ramon Monegal started his own brand.
There’s a lot of Ramon Monegal fragrances I love , i’ll mention some , Flamenco , Next to Me , Olé , Faisa,Soul of Oud and Bravo
    All profiles I already follow,i also follow @lauramonegal and @oscarmonegal ,@waltherp99bg

Ah Nicoleta, what an absolutely dreamy review! So poetic and so tangible at the same time… Likely as rose feels so familiar to us, humans, and so deeply intertwined with our understanding of the beautiful, the romantic, the sensual and the elegant. The rose in Hazy Rose is all that and more – soft, fluffy, innocent, smooth, deep, enthralling, seductive, naughty… My heart skipped a beat when I envisaged it dancing its magical dance on my skin. Thank you from Dublin, Republic of Ireland, EU

  • I absolutely adore roses. Not only the smell of roses fills my mind, but also those soft petals always touch my heart. All I can say is Nicoleta’s imagery on Hazy Rose by Ramon Monegal is stunningly beautiful. It’s so poetic! It took me to a garden filled with bloomed roses dancing in the soft wind! I am so looking forward to try this fragrance! Love from USA.

  • Uncle1979 says:

Nicoleta take on Hazy Rose reminded me of making, and later eating the traditional Persian Cake with rose petals, saffron, almonds , rose water , and dates. It’s called Kayk-e Eshgh , but more people know it as Persian Love Cake , or Persian Pavlova cake.
I imagined eating the cake, drinking ginger tea, with burning incense cons also on the table.
The only Ramon Monegal fragrance i know is Bravo. I had a small decant in the past , and now a bottle, and to me it smells like I’m eating Chocolate Ganache Cake with Cassis, drinking freshly squeezed apricot juice , while sitting on a leather couch.
It’s interesting how both Hazy Rose , and Bravo have rose , incense, musk , oakmoss , and sweetness. I’m curious if I would be able to pick up some similarities between the two.
Appreciate the review , and the giveaway campaign

  • Ramon Monegal fragrances are provocative, powerful , and almost bohemian.
Nicoleta Tomsa review made me believe Hazy Rose is one Gothic , overly sexy , and even slightly lustful fragrance for people with high self esteem.
Come in baby , light my fire , like in the famous Doors song ❤
It was also delightful leaning about Nicoleta love for different types of roses , and how important are the instincts for Ramon Monegal when creating a new fragrance.
One of my favorite fragrances is Impossible Iris – Ramon Monegal. Modern and cozy fruity-floral.
