Sometimes a press release is perfect just the way it is. We think this one announcing Parfums DelRae newest scent Panache, inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac was so evocative we left it in tact.
"How can we not love Cyrano? Although he is far from handsome (alas, the famous nose!), Cyrano possesses beauty of intelligence and an indefatigable spirit. He is a consistent and loyal friend who helps the handsome but dull Christian woo the lovely Roxane, even though it is he, Cyrano, who loves her deeply. Cyrano displays generosity, character and grace in the face of adversity. And we, and eventually Roxane, fall in love with him. In the final heartbreaking act, the very last word spoken by Cyrano is panache. This quality, he says is the one thing that death and judgment cannot take from him. It is the quality that makes him unique and has defined his life. It is what we will remember most and what inspires us to go forward.
“You take everything—the rose and the laurel too.
Take them and welcome. But, in spite of you,
There is one thing that goes with me when tonight
I enter my final lodging, sweeping the bright
Stars from the blue threshold with my salute.
A thing unstained, unsullied by the brute
Broken nails of the world, by death, by doom
Unfingered—See it there, a white plume
Over the battle—A diamond in the ash
Of the ultimate combustion—
My panache.”
Panache is centered around vetyver, one of my favorite perfume materials. The perfume begins with the top notes of ambrette seed, baies roses, magnolia flower, bergamot and delicious rum extract. In the heart is the gallant vetyver surrounded by jasmine Sambac absolute, ylang ylang orpur and cardamom, and finally a rich forest of oakwood extract. The perfume rests on a warm and enveloping foundation with olibanum Somalia orpur. Captive musks (Cosmone, Serenolide, Moxalone) providing elegance (ambergris), nuance and depth. Golden amber and white honey exudes radiance.
My co-creator Yann Vasnier describes Panache as a “coup de threatre! ambrette seed absolute and rum extract provides a dashing entrance to the flamboyant jasmine Sambac absolute and the vetyver and musk add a stylish and rich confidence.”- DelRae Roth
Brava DelRae, beautifully written. We are looking forward to Mark Behnke's review of Panache soon.
