Coquillete Paris Rosa Vaia and Elise Juarros

Elise Juarros and Rosa Vaia of Coquillete-Paris

Perfumers and former fashionistas,  Elise Juarros and Rosa Vaia introduced TUDOR, the final fragrance in Coquillete-Paris’ sextet at Pitti Fragranze 2014.   When they began their Company in 2013, they decided only six perfumes were to be made; that all would reveal abit about their lives, travels and personalities. They made their debut with Herat, Moramanga, Sulmona and Sumaterra. Later that year Tan Tan followed. It is bittersweet to know that you will only create a limited number of scents; so they left the best for last.

As in every Coquilette Paris perfume there is a back story. Tudor takes its name from the "Tudor rose" the white and red rose that became the symbol of British union. Henry VII, Born to both Lancaster and York parents, took the crown in 1485, bringing an end to "The War of the Roses", a hundred year war that divided the country into two camps uder two colors; The House of Lancaster and The House of York. For Rosa and Elise, the history reminded them of struggle, resolution and the acceptance of the war within themselves. According to Rosa, "TUDOR reminds us that we should come to terms with our wounds and life’s obstacles, since these challenges keep us away from ourselves.  It is a fragrance that frees us from  fleeting artifices and reveals pure beauty. TUDOR is the sixth and final perfume of the collection. It is the last step of the journey, the most demanding: one that leads inside ourselves". (It is also the first time they have used a male model in an ad,  as TUDOR is a rose fragrance for both genders).

TUDOR reveals an otherworldly beauty. Rose Petals are swept away by the autumn wind and fly in the night sky like fragrant stars. The land rises to meet it –  a jumble of bushes,  dark wood,  forest roots, and earthy soil. Deep, enigmatic and penetrating notes that end on an amber accord.

Notes: Top: rosewood, Chinese geranium, lily of the valley; Heart: amber wood, benzoin, soil; Base: rosewood, benzoin, labdanum, ambergris, vanilla from Madagascar

  • I love anything rose, the more complex, the better! This sounds like a Waterhouse or Parrish painting, mysterious and a little eldritch.

So exciting! US Resident, and thanks for the draw!

  • I love love LOVE dark rose perfumes 🙂 I am not sure I would ever tire of trying more. Thank you! I am in the US.

  • julesinrose says:

I think I’d love this scent. Another rose lover here, and the darker the better! I really enjoyed the video. An ethereal barely clad beautiful man is a change of pace from the usual! Thanks for the draw and cheers. Oh, and I’m in the US still. 🙂

  • I love rose fragrances, but I also think the backstory of this fragrance is pretty mesmorizing – the acceptance of wars within ourselves. Pretty deep. To be honest though the video was a little strange for my tastes. I’ve never tried a Coquillete Paris perfume, but I’d love to try this one! I live in the U.S, thanks for the draw!

  • This fragrance sounds like a luscious rose garden in a bottle. I adore Rose fragrances of all sorts. Strange video for sure, but I find beauty in strange unusual things. I would wear this in the cold winters here in Wisconsin, to remind me that spring is just around the corner with all its beauty and the roses that will bloom again. US here.

  • Rose, soil, and amber all mark this as a winner for me. That video was great, what I was able to see of it with my crummy internet connection. I haven’t had the chance to try any of the line but hope to. I am in the US. Thank you!

  • The video won’t load at all, for me, it looks like it’s not even imbedded and I’ve tried refreshing a few times. I live in the USA, and haven’t ever tried any Coquillete fragrances unfortunately. But, I’m intrigued by “different” notes added to Rose, like this soil note. Kinda reminds me of the weirdness of the cement note you can sniff in Maria Candida Gentile’s Cinabre. And I’m a huge British history nerd, so I would live to try this! Thanks so much for the giveaway. 🙂

  • I’m sure I would enjoy Tudor. Pyramid is amazing as well as the name of perfume. It must be something special for sure.
I haven’t tried any of Coquillete Paris Perfume and I would love to try.
I think video is strange but beautiful. I love dusky forest and little snowflakes in the air and anxious music.
    I’m in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  • I like the sound of the notes in this fragrance, and am fascinated by this period in British history, and the significance of the red and white rose.
That video, hm, don’t quite get it but the visuals are lovely.
I live in Australia and have never tried any of the Coquillete brand.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

I have mentioned before that i do enjoy roses and this is a rose fragrance aimed at both sexes. one of the best things about the video is that it tries to challenge conventional gender notions and calls for a society which is more tolerant. I have not experienced any coquillete fragrance so far. thanks for the generous gift. i am in the US

  • “TUDOR reminds us that we should come to terms with our wounds and life’s obstacles, since these challenges keep us away from ourselves”…to me this says it all about this video and the fragrance.
Bravo!! I love rose scents, and I want it dark!
I live in the US. Thanks for this incredible draw!

  • Oddly I too cannot load the video. Wonder if it has anything to do with the iPad updates lately. At any rate…..I have come to appreciate rose fragrances and this sound so wonderful. I love the history lesson Michelyn, thank you. I am liking the note combo of this beauty. This would be a great fragrance for art events, wine tasting, etc. I’m in the USA. Coquillete Herat is a wonderful Vetiver fragrance I enjoy.

  • I love rose fragrances- dark roses especially. The soil note sounds very appealing. I haven’t tried anything yet from Coquillete, and I’m in the US.

  • Thank you for the opportunity to win a full bottle of this ! Rosewood is a most intriguing and penetrating aroma , rich and deep – Like the video ! I have not tried ANY of the six , but look forward to it . I am in the US .

  • Very nice article. I had never try that scent, but it sounds lovely. I like this video, really interesting, and I like the music of this video too.
    I live in Europe.

  • Nice rewiew! The fragrance sounds magnificent, … luxury for a queen of any gender. I think the scent is better than the video, it’s not very original.
Regarding other products of Coquilette Paris I really appreciate Sumatera.
    I live in Italy.

  • Jennifer Witt says:

A complex rose sounds wonderful! The video reminded me of American Horror Story a little bit – mesmerizing and beautiful, and kind of spooky! If the scent smells like that, I’ll love it. I’ve not tried any other Coquilette Paris perfumes. US.

  • Deep and enigmatic — it’s calling my name, and even more so does Rosa’s story. It’s about me at the moment. Video is beautiful but a bit too emo.
    I’m from Latvia.

  • I would enjoy Tudor very much because it has all the notes that I love in a smell making it a deep, intense, and mysterious perfume filled with rosewood, geranium, amber notes, wood, labdanum, ambergris, Madagascar vanilla giving it a dark woody character filled with forest roots, and earthy soil smell.
Ι enjoyed the video very much the music, the atmosphere in the woods the model’s styling everything.
I never had the chance to experience any of Coquillete Paris Perfumes so I have no favorite one although Tudor would definitely become one of my beloved ones.
I live in EU and I thank you for this lovely draw.

  • Although I have mixed feelings about the video, perfume Tudor, from what I could imagine and read, has enigmatic touch thanks to root-base. How dominate is the rose I wonder…
I haven’t tried Coquillete Paris Perfume yet (so many perfumes left un-sniffed – boo).
    Greetings from Germany.

  • I’ve never tried a Coquillete. i do like a rose though and if I’m to take the colour tones of the video as pointers, it probably smells great.
    I’m in the EU, ty

  • I love deep rose scents. I have not tried any Coquilette Paris perfumes. Thank you for the draw!
    US

  • Paying homage to a great Rose moves me. Its grand, it’s historical and outright spectacular, an honorable gesture to one of nature’s finest. I have not had the privilege to try any Coquilette Paris perfumes. The Video?…lot of power in that Rose 🙂
I am international. Generous draw- thanks!

  • I would be very interested to try Coquilette Paris perfumes, they sound so wonderful. The Video gave me a feeling of the beauty of the Rose and the power it has over mere mortal men, The notes in the perfume feel like they are secrets to be revealed. That is just a feeling, I am unexperienced in this but they evoke much thought. I am in the US. Thank you for the review and draw.

  • I love British history, so the fact that the perfume was inspired by the tudor rose is interesting to me. I love rose perfumes and I’m always looking for one that brings something different. The video was not a love for me. I like my men strong and decisive; this one looked a bit confused and wandering to me. But I’m sure there is a message there that I am too obtuse to understand. I enjoyed Sumatera when I tried it. I live in the US. Thank you for the review.

  • Rosewood-you had me at rosewood! I have to watch the film tomorrow, when I am less tired, to figure out my thoughts on that.

    i’m Carole, in Canada.

  • I adore rose, but I’m still searching for my “ur” rose, my perfect rose scent. I love that it starts with rosewood and ends with Amber, another favorite. I don’t have a favorite from Coquillette Paris, because I’ve not been lucky enough to smell anything from the house and, alas, the video wouldn’t play for me! I live in the US.

  • I adore a good dark rose scent. My husband also adores rose scents. He often reaches for my (feminine) rose scents. It would be great to have a rose fragrance he is “allowed” to wear. Would love to try Tudor.

I haven’t had the opportunity to try any of the Coquillete fragrances yet. I live in the Netherlands.

Thank you Coquillete Paris and ÇaFleureBon for this lovely draw.

  • Unisex scents are always intriguing to me, I wonder how rosey notes fit into the category? Earthy notes could definitely pull towards the desired unisex direction.

The real, initial colours of yin and yang are not black and white, how many believe, but red and white. They combine male and female principles. So, you have here a red and a white rose that should round the scent with both feminine and masculine energies.

Video points that out by casting a very feminine male actor, having all earthy surrounding with a final touch of a rose.

I haven’t tried any Coquillete perfumes, but am thankful for this nice story – greetings from Croatia!

  • No video appears on my screen, such a shame I would have enjoyed watching it. Scents of place and time are very inspiring, I’ve always enjoyed the rich and dramatic Tudur history. I think this rose fragrance sounds like both a scent of place but also a moment of being. I would love to try it, as I’ve unfortunately not yet experienced anything from Coquillete. I live in the US.

  • I love all roses, but a dark thorny rose is always at the top. Beautiful video, the use of the androgynous actor to convey unisex fragrance is interesting. Hopefully it won’t detract some men from trying Tudor. I love Egoiste, with its rose note and so does my husband. I have not tried anything from Coquillete yet. I live in the US.

  • The selection of notes to go along with the rose has me thinking I’d enjoy this above other rose perfumes. 🙂 I have not smelled any from the line to have a favorite. In the U.S.

  • I love rose fragances…when they are welt built, and this appels to me for the forest side, the notes list sound good, also for the geranium and the rosewood…well in this case I have to smell it to have an opinion. I don’t know any Coquillette fragance….and concerning the video it makes me thing about oakmoss and rose.
    I,m in Europe (Spain)

  • I love sulmona a real vanilla perfume that I wear whenever I am feeling down!
On my phone I can’t see the video but on my laptop I can
Maybe its an Apple thing ?
I always am looking for a nice rose and I like the idea that there is earthy soil
    USA

  • The thing that most thrills me is the soil mingled with lush flowers and woods.
I don”t know any of Coquillette fragrances, but I think I would be most pleased by Sumatera and Tan-Tan.
I liked the androgynous implications of the video. Enrie is stunning!
    I live in Bulgaria (EU).
    Thank you for the draw!

  • I’m curious about this fragrance and would love a chance to win it! Haven’t had the opportunity to try anything from Coquillete (yet) so if I were lucky enough to win this would be a first.

    I live in Sweden.

  • This is a GREAT draw. 100ml !!! I’m intrigued about the geranium and vanilla notes with the rose aspect. This would be my first Coquillete. usa

  • I love perfumes with a story behind it, the video is fitting, liked it! I like everything about rose, I think I will enjoy rosewood and geranium mixed with labdanum and ambergris. I don’t know any Coquilete fragrance. I am in the EU. Thanks for the draw!

  • Oh yes!! I need this perfume. Tudor sounds like exactly where I am in my life right now. Coming to terms with the self imposed obstacles. Dark rose petals and earthy scents are a fave of mine. And the video fits the backstory well. I live in the U.S.. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Perfumes of Coquillete Paris are always accompanied by wonderful campaigns in the form of nice photos, they have become an integral part of the concept. The same is with this lovely video. It is really the reflection of “an otherworldly beauty”, as an insight into the depth of the soul. It is very significant to compare a personal war with The war of roses, it is personal hi-story explained by the world’s history. I’ve tried Coquillete’s four perfumes and I love them all, especially Herat. Tudor seems great to me, I love Tudor’s list of raw materials.
I’m in the EU, Croatia. Thank you.

  • I certainly am ready for the final leg of the journey “the one that stretches deep within myself”. I adore the notes in this one and the back story of this as well… The video was magnificence personified. Kudos on using Enrie Scielzo as the model for this it was perfection. I am in the US.

  • I can’t seem to load the video for some reason, but a dark rose sounds fabulous. I’m in the US, and this would be my first Coquilette. Thanks!

  • Cynthia Richardson says:

I think I would enjoy the “jumble of bushes, dark wood, forest roots, and earthy soil” about TUDOR. I live in the US and found the video interesting – especially conveyed in muted tones with the red rose. I have not yet had the pleasure of wearing a Coquillete Paris Perfume

  • Roses in autumn are so romantic, and this description even more so. The rose petals, the soil, the autumn wind, I can’t wait to try this one and be transported. I have not tried any Coquillete fragrances yet, but I hope to. The video was amazing. Thanks so much, I’m in the U.S.
