Navitus Parfums Raised Spirits (Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet) Review + Boozy Caramel Swirl Giveaway

Navitus Raised Spirits by Dominque Ropion

“The smoke clears and the distorted landscape begins to come into focus. The silhouette of a highball glass begins to materialize, and the setting secures intelligibility. Dark rum is the intoxicating spirit of the evening, and its mesmerizing spice is complemented by the saccharine warmth of sweetly flowing brown sugar syrup. Dulcet wafts of caramel linger in the ether, and we are beckoned to advance forward towards the enticing essence. Our emotional state is exalted, and our worries dissolve as the congenial smell of vanilla from Madagascar overtakes our senses. Tobacco leaves evoke an aura of grandeur and timelessness with their long-lasting effect. The grounding smell of French oak conjures images of rum-soaked barrels that hold the memory of the spirit with their enigmatic exudations. Pimento leaves establish a unique aromatic flavor with a hint of spice for an exotic sensation that is as addictive as it is renewing. Raised Spirits is a toast to new beginnings and a clear perspective.” – Steven Gavrielatos, Creative Director.

Navitus Parfums Raised Spirits feels like you are stepping into the hazy twilight of a forgotten speakeasy, where the air is filled with the ghosts of revelry past, capturing the alchemy of renewal through the lens of boozy indulgence. Created under the masterful hands of perfumers Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet—with creative direction from Steven Gavrielatos—the fragrance blends the warmth of aged spirits with the flavorful addition of far-flung botanicals.

From the very first spritz, Navitus Parfums Raised Spirits felt like a familiar embrace, a veil of dark rum, rich and spiced, like the first sip of a forbidden cocktail in a dimly lit bar where secrets are traded like currency. This isn’t a harsh, biting rum; it’s mesmerizing in its depth, laced with the saccharine warmth of brown sugar syrup that flows like molten amber, sweet yet never cloying. The opening notes beckon with dulcet wafts of caramel, lingering in the ether like the afterglow of a caramelized dessert under a flickering candle. It’s an invitation to surrender, to let the worries of a long day dissolve as the congenial essence of Madagascar vanilla overtakes your senses, creamy and exalted, evoking sun-drenched pods split open under a tropical sky.

Then comes the grandeur of the heart through tobacco leaves, that clings with long-lasting tenacity, reminiscent of leather-bound libraries and whispered confidences over cigars. This is where the fragrance truly grounds itself, with French oak conjuring visions of rum-soaked barrels, their wood imbued with the memory of spirits aged to perfection. There’s a subtle spice here, courtesy of pimento leaves, that adds an addictive layer—renewing and invigorating, like a hint of allspice in a classic Old Fashioned, bridging the warmth of the gourmand with the intrigue of the aromatic.

Raised Spirits by Nativus

Navitus Parfums Raised Spirits mood board  by Olya Bar©

The vanilla and caramel soften into a velvety base, while the tobacco and oak provide a sturdy backbone, ensuring the scent evolves rather than fades. On my skin, it transforms over hours into something profoundly personal: the initial boozy exuberance mellows into a comforting hug, with the pimento’s spice offering just enough edge to keep things from veering into predictability. It’s addictive in its renewal, a fragrance that shifts with your mood, exalting in moments of celebration, grounding in times of reflection. Some might find the rum note too potent at first, evoking a cocktail hour that borders on the heady, but patience reveals its true balance, a symphony where each element plays off the other in perfect harmony.

Housed in a bottle with a color that mimics the clearing haze of its narrative, Raised Spirits is a toast to the bygone era of savoring life in style.

Disclosure: Raised Spirits was kindly gifted to me, but opinions are always my own.

Olya Bar, Editor

Notes: Caramel, Pimento Leaf, Rum; Caramel, Brown sugar, Sugar Cane; Bourbon Vanilla, Tobacco, Oak, Cashmere Wood.

  • Olya’s review is fantastic. This seems like a smokey caramel beauty! the rum, vanilla/ with backbone of wood abd slight smokiness sounds incredible! Thank you for the review!

I thought Olya did a wonderful job describing this fragrance. I like how she mentioned how important it was to allow all the notes to strike the perfect balance. The notes here sound very addictive and great for a cool evening. I live in Maryland USA.

  • Olya’s take on Raised Spirits is similar to creative director, Steven Gavrielato’s–A classy “gin-joint” with a history, drinking a rum that is nuanced, refined, smooth, balanced and complex in its profile: sweet, spicy and smoky. Raised Spirits has perfect harmony in its execution. It is an indulgent ode to an era of exuberance and decadence.

Uff, a mix of sweetness, boozy-ness and tobacco it’s the perfect recipe for fall/winter fragrances. I remember when the first iteration of this fragrance came around and sold out almost immediately, I’m glad it’s back and better than ever. The new version (macerated for over a year) gives that deeper, heftier and more concentrated composition that will surely raise your spirits. I agree with what Olya said about how the bottle foretells what the fragrance will be like, it’s a nice touch from the brand to match scent with presentation. My favorite Navitus is Aweigh as it’s the only one I own. I’m located in the USA.

  • Sounds perfect for Fall, lush and toasty, boozy and sweet. It sounds warm and cozy. I like The Embrace by Navitus, it has a warm ambery note too. I am located in the U.S.

  • Olya’s review was divine. I ended up buying a bottle through the Navitus link above because Navitus is offering it a 30% discount with free shipping. I simply couldn’t roll the dice and wait to see if I was randomly chosen ten days from now because there may be some pent-up demand once word is out. Eighteen month maceration . . . oy!

  • I have yet to try Navitus beyond a single sample a fellow swapper gifted me with, so I’m game to try more! Olya’s review makes this sound like a richer, more elegant boozy sweet wood than those currently on the market and it sounds like the textbook definition of the word Golden. I live in the US and this fragrance sounds like a winner for the upcoming autumn months!

  • A spicy vanilla caramel rum tobacco oak is definitely “my type” especially in the hands of Dominique Ropion! No shade intended towards Julien as I’m just not quite as familiar with his work yet. I have yet to try anything from Navitus but with the way that Olya paints a lovely picture with her words I would like to experience this fragrance for myself. I’m in the USA

  • LeSchnozzle says:

This sounds right up my alley; a dark, dimly lit alley behind an old speakeasy. As always, fantastic job to Olya for the wonderful description. This sounds like the perfect fragrance to pair with another trip to the Whiskey library in town. I have yet to try any Navitus Parfum fragrances but this has piqued my interest.

    I live in the USA.

  • Makenziebanister says:

Booze, smoke, caramel. Olya talks about perfect balance and I think these notes create the perfect recipe! My favorite Navitus is venom of love. I think they execute deep, lush, boozy scents extremely well.

  • Taking my chances to win this perfume. Last time ai won a perfume, I couldn’t respond right away and lost it. Please include me in a giveaway. USA reader

  • Olya’s review made me feel like I was stepping into that hazy speakeasy myself. The description of rum, tobacco, and oak feels both indulgent and comforting. I’d love to experience how this balance plays out on skin.

  • As summer comes to a close and we are looking towards cooler weather I’m excited to learn more about this rum laced scent. Raised Spirits, fun play there, sounds like the perfect winter tonic to lift anyone’s spirit as we bring in the winter weather. I do not have a favorite Navitus perfume although I own 2 from the YouTube influncier AI. In maryland.

  • Great review Olya! This kind of warm, earthy gourmand fragrance primes me for coolish autumn weather. The booziness of the bourbon, the sweetness of the caramel and brown sugar, a hint of spice from the pimento leaf all on a bed of tobacco and oak and cashmeran evokes cozy nights by the fire with an elegant cocktail in your hand. • reyessence89 says:

The notes scream sweet and cloying to me, but Olya’s review manages to allay my fear of overly sweet gourmand perfumes with mentions of tobacco leaf and rum. I guess it’s all about balance, and Ropion and Rasquinet would be the ones to achieve that tightrope walk without falling in the lava of caramel and brown sugar syrup. Color me intrigued. I’ve not smelled any Navitus perfumes. You can remedy that, ÇaFleureBon! I live in the USA.

  • Love how Olya describes the progression of the fragrance. The imagery that each note invokes sounds like a perfect cozy winter fragrance all in all with an delicious gourmand aspect. Haven’t tried all of the fragrance’s from Navitus, but my current favorite has got to be Baklava Royale.

I’ve been wanting to get my nose on this one for a long time! The mix of booze and spice sounds divine. My favorite so far is Lost in a Dream and I bet this is a beautiful complement to that. I live in TX.

  • Olya paints a picture of Raised Spirits as not just another boozy seductive fragrance, but of something truly unique and transcendent. I have long been a fan of Navitus and had the privilege of meeting Steven at his launch and buying Primas from him, and it is a bold sophisticated scent that I enjoy regularly. One of my great fragrance regrets is not having smelled Oud Luxuria before I bought Montale’s Black Aoud because there is no contest for me. I live in the USA NJ

  • Wow, what an amazing review! The description of Raised Spirits with its boozy rum, caramel swirl and warm spices makes it sound absolutely irresistible. I would love the chance to experience this fragrance myself. Please count me in for the giveaway – thank you so much for this generous opportunity!

  • I think the review was spectacular. I got the vibe of this fragrance through this review. I can imagine the 1920’s the excitement of a classy speak easy and the smell of rum filled barrels and tobacco linger the bakery in the main store area. That’s the picture that was painted for my by Olya’s review. Raised Spirits sounds like the perfect winter scent boozy, spicy, sweet and tobacco to round it out. I would have been excited for this just reading Olya’s review then I see one of the perfumers is Dominique Ropion and now I know this will be a beautiful tastefully done scent. I am in the USA.

  • This sounds like a perfect fall fragrance. Boozy, caramel, vanilla. Deep, rich, sensual, mysterious. I’m sure anything Steven had to do with, would smell devine. USA,CA

  • Reading Steven’s quote, I thought I knew where it was going until he got to Pimento leaves, which caught me off guard. Interesting aromatic twist on a decadently sweet booze and tobacco fragrance. The heart also sounds more complex and mature than a sticky-sweet gourmand. I’m also intrigued by a rum note that “some might find…too potent at first.” I haven’t tried any Navitus Parfums fragrances—Raised Spirits sounds fund. I’d spray this on a cold day.

    I’m in the USA.

  • This sounds delectable and appropriate for the upcoming fall season. Sweet as could be but with the oak character finishing this off with a twist. It seems like the gourmands have been trending towards the booze and tobacco dominant scents. The resinous caramel, burnt sugar, and cashmere wood make for a solid fall and winter scent. Would like to win and appreciate this staple in my collection. From North Carolina, USA

  • Olya’s review paints Raised Spirits as the epitome of holiday warmth and cheer. She describes it as a boozy gourmand with restraint, perfect for evoking festive, cozy scenarios—crystal snifters of amber rum, the soft embrace of a wool sweater, lingering embers by a winter fire. The fragrance is unisex, inviting, and comforting rather than overwhelming. From Navitus Parfums I loved so much “Lost in a Dream”, such a good scent! Perfect for a girls night out. From USA.

  • I’m always ready for sensual, deep and rich warm weather fragrances done right ✅
Coziness, positive emotions , romantic occasions all are part of the festive sensation coming from Raised Spirits. The fragrance is not balanced and sweet , but rum is so well blended with the tobacco , brown sugar and the oak . As far as I’m concerned it checks all the boxes, I’ll gladly wear it on dates, parties or concerts.
Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet are perfumers behind multiple fragrances i like Vanagloria, BDK Vanille Leather , Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours, Russian Tea etc , I know they did great again with Raised Spirits .
From Navitus I’m happy to have Absolutio , Baklava Royale and Vivamor. I like Baklava Royale the most, but Vivamor gets me by most compliments

Olya set the scene in a few different ways; a speakeasy, a library with leather bound books, a wood paneled cigar bar. All of these things combined with a little Hogsmeade ambiance is what I get from my sample of Raised Spirits and I truly enjoy it. I have a few different sample sets but not a favorite from the house. From the USA.

  • The image Olya’s paints in his review tells me this is a very sensual fragrance that incentivizes others to be drawn in to you. I don’t believe I’ve ever been able to smell any scents from Nativus Perfumes, most of my collection is some variety of boozy, even some of my warm weather scents, so thanks to Olya, this is something that will go on my wishlist. Thank you for the article. USA

  • Dominique Ropion career is remarkable , he cooked so many successful, beautiful and popular fragrances , from Vanilla Barka from Amouage to Babycat from YSL and many more,
Julien Rasquinet is great as well and he already cooked for Electimuss London, Creed , Amouage and Navitus.
Raised Spirits is a fragrance I’ll be happy to win, Redolessence introduction , and Olya’s take on on the fragrance made me think of making Spiced Rum , Dates and Caramel Cake , and later eating it while there’s a Cuban cigar on the table.
Of course a lot of famous perfumers worked with Navitus, Jorge Lee is the one , who cooked two of my favorite Navitus Parfums fragrances, Vivamor and Serenade. Bertrand Duchaufour Baklava is my favorite one
Appreciate the introduction, the review and the giveaway campaign

  • I’d like to win Raised Spirits because I love the taste and smell of dark rum , balanced caramel sweetness and tobacco aspects , and especially the tranquil base of the fragrance with like Olya said velvety base with sturdy backbone.
The tobacco and oak parts i think will make it perfect for the Fall and Winter cuddling moments .
I’m also happy to know Raised Spirits is collaboration between Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet , since
Aubade (Lyrik) , another Navitus collaboration they made together is the best Navitus fragrance I’ve smelled . Aubade (Lyrik) , The Embrace and Navus are the Navitus Parfums fragrances I own.
    Thanks for the draw

I am very interested in the grounding tobacco note, how it blends with the brown sugar and the rum. I absolutely love baking with brown sugar. I love its caramel facets. The spiciness of the pimento spice sounds very intriguing. I am very curious as to how these notes blend together in Raised Spirits. I am sure this is a beguiling combination.
    I live in the USA.

Let’s face it , Raised Spirits is spectacular social nights out fragrance , I’m so pumped for the new release. Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet are both famous perfumers for a good reason.
I like how Steven introduced the fragrance with dark rum , brown sugar syrup and rum soaked oak barrels.
I’m keen on the caramelized desert under a flickering candle ,pimento leaves and especially the bygone era of “savoring life in style” vibe in Olya overview. Personally I’m glad Raised Spirits is a gourmand fragrance done in a caramel , woody and boozy but still classy way, not a childish super sticky fragrance by any means.
Navy Blue Double Breasted suit , Brown loafers and a few sprays of Raised Spirits would be a perfect addition to experience, the ultimate comfort and style. With the help of Dominique Ropion and Julien Rasquinet private gentlemen club meets niche perfumery, my expectations are so high, can’t wait.
Vivamor is my favorite Navitus Parfums
Thank you Steven, Olya , Michelyn , Navitus Parfums, Dominique Ropion, Julien Rasquinet

Niiiice 🙂 I’m all for subtle spices , melted brown sugar, Bourbon vanilla, tobacco leaves and especially a classic Old Fashioned lol
Raised Spirits is perfect for liquor connoisseurs like Olya and me , and for anyone looking to make a statement or is dreaming of burning fireplaces and cocktails . Yes please to such compositions , Steven and Olya reviews were like a Winter trip to to a cabin in the woods , chilling in front of a fireplace with classic Old Fashioned in my hand.
My favorite Navitus Parfums fragrance is Navus , I’m also into XO Brandy , Melon Kiss , Absolutio , and Vivamor .
