Memo Siwa Review (Aliénor Maissenet) 2007+ Scented Oasis Draw

Memo Paris Siwa

Memo Siwa by Cynthia

With the season coming on winter and the weather here in Washington, D.C. turning cold, the trees losing all their leaves, and the smell of wood burning in fireplaces in the air, some people are reveling in it.  I see the looks of gleeful joy on their faces, smug and satisfied in their scarfs, gloves, big coats and hats, shuffling energetically down the street with their pumpkin, cinnamon and candy cane flavored hot drinks.  I am not one of those people. The cold weather to me feels unfriendly, unwelcoming, harsh, stressful, and downright mean, especially the during the pre-dawn frigid shuttling of kids to school and myself to work, fighting traffic on the gray streets.  I need my perfumes to be nice to me now- to be soft, serene, welcoming, and kind.  I find myself reaching for my more gourmand, sunny, comforting scents to transport me out of the cold and into a relaxing, sunny spot, where I’m back in my flip flops with the sun on my skin. I need my scents to be my oasis for my spirit now.

Siwa perfume by Memo paris

via wiki the ancient city of Siwa

Memo Siwa is the perfect perfume for this.  Siwa is a city and oasis in the north-west part of Egypt, surrounded by hundreds of miles of inhospitable desert terrain.  It is known to have been settled since the 10th millennium B.C. Over the millennia, countless travelers and settlers, including the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and even Alexander the Great came here, to find refuge and protection from the vast, harsh, unforgiving desert surrounding it. The Siwa Oasis has cool natural springs, calm lakes with soft grasses and is lush and green with countless fruitful, shady date palms and olive trees.

Upon first spray, Memo Siwa envelops you with this same warm, soft blanket of solace and riches.  The lushest, most gracious and kindest vanilla is draped around your shoulders.  With the nuanced addition of narcissus flower, freesia, heliotrope and orris absolute, you feel the lush bounty of the oasis, the breads and sweets like Ma’amoul and baklava baking in the warm ovens, the plants swaying in the soft breezes, lush and full and flowering. The shiny dates and glossy olives are colorful, plump and ripe and ready to eat.  What is that I see in the distance?  It shimmers on the horizon like liquid gold.  It is a mirage of cinnamon.  Quiet, drifting relaxingly in the air in a most sheer way, to where it’s not spicy or hot, just warm, inviting and fulfilling.  Maybe it is Perfumer Alienor Massenet’s addition of ginger, incense and sandalwood that combine so delicately with the cinnamon to create this balmy, golden, glimmering veil that floats in an ethereal, flaxen aura around you.

Siwa by Memo review

Now, surrounded in Siwa perfume, I feel my body thaw, as if I am sitting by a fire, rescued from the cold.  There is a warm breeze instead of a cold north wind blowing.  There is now a cinnamon scented hot drink in my hands to warm them too!  My muscles relax, I stretch out and feel the stress start to melt away.  I take an enticing Ma’amoul cookie with its buttery outer layer and lush date-filled interior and pop it in my mouth.  It’s delicious -sweet, warm, dense and bready.  I want to stay in this serene, restful oasis from the cold forever.  I have to continue on with my day, but I know that I can spray Siwa anytime, to provide a comforting respite of warmth anytime.

And as I go back outside into the cold, I notice a little bit more pep in my step.  The air doesn’t seem so menacing now.  Just like the Siwa Oasis that provides sanctuary and restoration to continue on through that stark desert, I will make it through winter (and maybe even like it!) with the warm embrace of Memo Siwa perfume.

Notes: Narcissus Absolute, Oil of Incense, Vanilla Absolute, Oil of Cinnamon leaf, Oil of Ginger, Freesia, Heliotrope Flower, Orris Absolute, Oil of Sandalwood

  • Oh boy, this fragrance looks so appealing to me because, as Cynthia, I am not friend of winter and this season takes me out my place. With Memo Siwa, I picture a beautiful Oasis and relaxing warm notes. Great review! I am in the U.S.

  • I’m a fan of Memo Perfume, one of my favs is Russian Leather. The Siwa Oasis sounds like a beautiful refuge. Thanks for another great review and generous draw. Mich USA

  • From the review, Memo Siwa seems like a vanilla floral composition that may remind some of Arabian desserts like baklava. My fav. from Memo is African Leather. I am in US.

  • How festive Siwa sounds! I could feel the warmth of vanilla drape over my shoulders as I read this! A mirage of cinnamon seems like a perfect combination to me! The notes of this fragrance draw me in. I would love to try this one.

Thanks for the giveaway! I have never smelled a fragrance from MEMO. I do need to test some. In the USA.

  • I have always wanted to try memo Siwa
My grandmother is from Egypt and this would be special to honor her
    Beautiful writing

  • Ooh the bakery imagery used makes this sound so good! I have yet to try anything from Memo. I am in New England.

  • Like many others, the sentiments expressed by Cynthia here resonate with me – “Now, surrounded in Siwa perfume, I feel my body thaw, as if I am sitting by a fire, rescued from the cold. I want to stay in this serene, restful oasis from the cold forever.” YES, YES, YES – as it gets colder, busier and more stressful, this is what one needs. My favorite Memo, the only onn I have tried, is African Leather. Thanks for a warm respite in this cold weather. From USA.

  • This Fragrance by Memo Siwa sounds great for the weather months ahead of us. Cynthia’s vision of the Oasis and photos was interesting. Thank you for this Chance USA

  • Based on Cynthia’s review, the warm mix of vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, incense, and sandalwood that conjures up the taste of delicious date cookies is what appeals to me about Memo Paris Siwa. I have only sampled a few perfumes from Memo Paris and so far Lalibela has been my favorite. Siwa sounds like one I might like even better! I am in Maryland, US and a registered reader. Thank you very much for the wonderful review and generous giveaway!

Great review Cynthia! What appeals to me about Memo Paris based on Cynthia’s review is her description of Siwa as the perfect warm sensory escape from the onslaught of winter’s harshness, wraping you in soft, lush gourmand tones of vanilla, dates, ginger and cinamon, and the impression of “liquid gold”. I too am NOT a winter person, regardless of how many pumpkin spice lattes and cute earmuffs abound. So a lovely warming winter fragrance sounds right up my alley!

I have only tried a few Memo Paris perfumes, but my favorite so far is Morrocan Leather. I live in the US.

  • First of all the Memo bottles are beautiful! Siwa sounds very warm and inviting … cookies, cinnamon…yum!Exactly what I would love to wear during the cold weather or anytime really! Would be thrilled to win this beautiful creation..thank you! I am in NY.

  • Who’s the author of this fine read? It’s not mentioned below the article, like usual.
As a Pastry Chef, who also is a small business owner , I own my bakery, I’m glad Clara and John Molloy decision to use high quality ingredients in all Memo Paris fragrances, that’s essential to me.
I’m so thrilled for Siwa , because of how relaxed it is, the Egypt backstory, and especially the Ma’amoul comparison, I’m a Pastry Chef after all.
Ma’amoul origins are highly debatable, what I find interesting is that with slight differences, the cookies are made by Christians (with semolina flour) for Easter celebrations, Muslims (with semolina flour) for Ramadan, and by most Jewish communities (with white flour) for Hanukkah. Other popular varieties are Natef and Karabij .
I had the pleasure of smelling a few Memo Paris fragrances when I was at Osswald boutique a few years back. I have not smelled Siwa , but I’m happy to own Memo Tiger’s Nest , my favorite Memo Paris…Perfume.
Appreciate the review, and the giveaway campaign

  • Cynthia! What a perfect selection for these cold weather days! ❤️ What a lovely combination of notes for winter holidays! I have had MEMO fragrances on my list for a while and am delighted by this opportunity to experience Siwa (which sounds so perfect right now)! Thank you & good luck to all! ❤️

  • I love winter and cold weather, but I also love sunny fragrances. Siwa is one of my absolute favorite warm and sunny fragrances! The vanilla and narcissus together is beautiful. I own three Memo fragrances, so they most definitely appeal to me. I love how Cynthia gave a background on the city of Siwa and mentioned Ma’amoul cookies (they sound delicious). It’s so hard to choose my favorite Memo fragrance, but I would say either Siwa or Lalibela. I also love Winter Palace. Thank you for the article and the giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • Bright, fresh, sweet and energetic, up to date floral bouquet, some greenness, tartness , vanilla and sensual musk , the fragrance sounds amazing . Bready Siwa is a must try now .
I should finally catch up with Memo catalog of fragrances , i do like Alienor Massenet , but African Leather is the only one Memo I’ve smelled.
    Another top opportunity, thanks
    Cheers with Poinsettia cocktail

  • Unlike Cynthia I actually LOVE Winter. At least, that ethereal type of Winter when it is dead of night and snow is cascading in such a way that even the darkest of nights shines with the freshly fallen flakes that haven’t been marred by feet or dirt. The noiselessness that a fresh snowfall provides is just beautiful. The wind, however, is certainly menacing. On the other hand, warmth along with the smells of ginger/sandalwood/vanilla/incense excited me equally and that is why entices me regarding Siwa. The only Memo Paris I have sampled (so far) is African Leather and what a GORGEOUS experience that was. I would love more exposure to the house, and especially with something this interesting. Thanks for the opportunity as always guys and cheers from Illinois!

I’ve been trying hard to find *my* vanilla scented perfume and have so far been thwarted. This sounds enchanting, especially with the heliotrope and oil of sandalwood. I don’t have a favorite Memo. Thank for the draw, I live in the US.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

The pairing of subtle spices and incense with rich floral notes interests me a lot! Love the idea of a blanket of “solace and riches!” Very evocative phrasing! I haven’t actually tried any Memo perfumes…thanks for this generous draw! I’m in the US.

  • Favorite is African leather, I found the notes for this perfume most interesting and sounds like something I would enjoy

  • Daphnelemon says:

I also find myself turning to comfort scents and spices this year. I’d love to smell similar to a baklava or ma’amoul, they’re favorite desserts of mine. It was really interesting to learn some history about the city of Siwa. I haven’t tried anything from this house yet but have been meaning to. Location inspired fragrances really intrigue me in general, and the graphic design on each of their bottles is always stunning. I’m in the US

  • I completely relate to Cynthia. I’m also gravitating to perfumes that uplift my spirits in the cold Midwestern weather. Memo is such a fun brand. My favorites are Winter Palace and Sintra. I haven’t tried Siwa yet and need to! The notes are exactly what I’m looking for in a perfume right now. I live in Indiana.

  • What appeals to me most is the cinnamon. When it is cold and bitter outside, any sweet that has a cinnamon flavor always warms me up. I really like that this perfume is a gourmand, and it sounds absolutely perfect for the cold months ahead. As for Memo Paris, my favorite is African Leather, but I have not tried many offerings from the brand. I would love to get my nose on this one! Kind regards from IN, USA.

  • I had heard of Siwa but never thought much about it until Cynthia’s review. Now it sounds like the most romantic and special place. And that the perfume seems an oasis against the cold. This combination of place and purpose are very desirable. I haven’t tried any Memo Paris fragrances. I am in the US

  • This perfume sounds appealing because it’s described as a soothing scent with cinnamon. I usually associate spice with wintry fragrance and not those with a summery vibe. The cold can be romanticized but when it’s part of the daily grind, I agree it gets old quickly. I have not tried any Memo fragrances. Tx, US.

  • I liked Cynthia’s beautiful article. Do not remember, whether I have tested Siwa, but I love soft and warm perfumes with vanilla and as Cynthia said, it is that kind of perfume.
    I love Irish leather Memo.
    USA

  • Vanilla, Incense and Sandalwood, 3 of my favorite notes all together. This sounds amazing. Cynthia’s review really brings this to life. My favorite is African Leather. Indiana USA

  • I have really wanted to try a Memo perfume and this one sounds perfect. Those rich notes make me very excited and it would be perfect this time of year. In maryland.

  • Memo always has such great quality ingredients in their fragrances. The number of absolutes in Siwa is fantastic. This is a great time of year for a richly spiced vanilla centric perfume and the flower notes add that touch of sweetness. Favorite Memo fragrance is African Leather. I’m in MD, USA.

  • Memo Siwa sounds like exactly the warm spice, incense scent I have been looking for during these cold months. I agree that sometimes the sugary, Gourmand fragrances become to sickly and heavy for me and I turn towards fresh spices to brighten the dreariness of the winter. Siwa contains exactly the warmth I’m looking for: notes of vanilla, sweet baking spices, narcissus and heliotrope! In addition, the Ma’amoul cookie sounds delicious. I am inspired by John and Clara Molloy with Alienor Massenet for their fragrance based on seeds! Kedu sounds like a lovely scent as well!

  • Memo Paris fragrances are really appealing to me… Love Irish and African leather!! This one sounds about right up my alley as well. Definitely very intriguing. Sounds like a warm one vanilla cinnamon and incense!! Lovely review Cynthia!! USA

Thanks Cafleurebon for this special opportunity good luck everyone!!

  • Perfumes that gives comfort or even transport you to a different place are the ones that strikes me the most. Like cynthia, sometimes I do not like the cold too, so this perfume will definitely bring a blanket of comfort.
Memo Perfumes is one of the best out there according to what I see, also I havent tried any but I guess African Leather is their number one gem.
    USA

  • Wow, I didn’t know about the Siwa oasis and from Cynthia’s description, Memo Siwa sounds like it provides the feeling of reaching an oasis after a long trek in the deadly heat. Cynthia then flips this concept on it’s head and relates it to finding comfort from the cold – brilliant 🙂 I’m in USA and so far my favorite from Memo Paris is Italian Leather but it sounds like Siwa could take top spot. Thank you very much for the kind giveaway.

  • Cynthia’s review has my mouth watering after her decadent description of this fragrance…vanilla, cinnamon, and baklava…oh my goodness…smells so good 🙂
My favorite Memo Paris fragrance is Corfu. I live in the US. Thank you.

  • I’m one of those perverse souls whose spirits rise as the temperature falls, so to me this sounds like the perfect accompaniment rather than antidote to the colder months (though as a former DC resident myself, my sympathy goes out to Cynthia as the city’s humidity adds a bitter sting to its winters). I’ve long wanted to try one of Memo’s scents, and this soft, warm fragrance sounds like a fantastic entry point. I’m in the US.

  • I have never tried any of MEMO perfumes. However this drew me in big time. This was described so well and has me wanting to try a sample immediately because I could use some warming up! I too am not a big fan of the cold weather and I love a comforting warm gourmand on cold days. Vanilla being mentioned is enough to appeal to me but when I see orris, cinnamon, incense and so many other favorite notes I and totally intrigued! This sounds warm, cozy and fuzzy to me and I would love to try it.

Thank you to Cafleurbon and Europerfumes for the draw and happy holidays.

  • I feel like if I was to develop the perfect fragrance just from everything that I like out of the top of my head it would be this exact fragrance profile so I would love to get a chance to try it. Plus the idea of a beautiful oasis right now while I’m stuck working overtime and my home office sounds like a fever dream of amazingness. I live in the US

  • What a wonderful review! I’ve never tried any fragrances from Memo. Your description of the blend of notes was so beautiful – “create this balmy, golden, glimmering veil that floats in an ethereal, flaxen aura around you”. It sounds so perfect for the cold, winter nights here in northern PA.
    I live in the USA.

  • I really enjoyed Cynthia’s evocative review; although I don’t live in a cold place, I love gourmand scents, particularly vanilla-centric and this perfume sounds delicious. The scent of exotic sweets baking and the warmth of cinnamon, ginger and warm sandalwood add up to a perfume I know I would love. Thank you for including me in the draw…I am in Arizona, US.

  • Siwa is cozy natural smelling fragrance with incense, vanilla, and woody-floral elements of highest quality.
The fragrance also well represents the character of Egyptians , they can be laid-back, gentle but also passionate people.
In Spain the Ma’amoul cookies are known as Menenas , and are usually served with coffee. I don’t know if the ingredients are the same , in Spain at least the Menenas are rolled in powdered sugar.
African Leather, cozy date time scent I’m well aware of, I had to buy it because of smelling good , its high compliment factor , and versatility. Same thing I’m expecting from Siwa
    Exciting giveaway, USA
    Regards

  • This sounds amazing! I need to try more fragrances from this house. Living in cold Buffalo, I also need fragrances that remind me of warmer times. My favorite from the few I have been lucky enough to sample is African Leather. Thank you for the draw. I’m in the US.

  • I’ve not tried any fragrances from Memo yet. Siwa sounds really nice and id love to try it. I particularly like Cynthia’s comment about it being like a warm oasis to help get through the winter, very appealing. Thanks for the generous draw, from CT USA.

  • Michael Prince says:

What appeals to me about Memo Paris Siwa based on Cynthia’s review was learning about the Siwa Oasis in Egypt. A beautiful lucious and green oasis and city surrounded by hundreds of miles of desert in all directions. I loved how Cynthia related this Siwa Oasis to the Warm Vanilla that envelops this fragrance along with the spicy and comforting gourmand notes. It sounds warm, comforting, and perfect for this time of year. My favorite Memo Paris fragrance is African Leather. I am from the USA.

  • I used to be one of those cool-weather people. It has only been in the last year or two that I have found myself learning to love the heat of summer. Now I find myself in the new (to me) position of missing that heat wrapping around me. It has resulted in a craving for spicy, incense-y fragrances. This perfume sounds tailor-made for my longing for warmth right now! SherylJ. (USA)

  • Jarrid Steele says:

Cynthia’s description of the bleakness of winter mirrors my own feelings perfectly. I do not own any Memo but I have sampled a fee and my favorites to date are Winter Palace (oddly enough) and French Leather which is mostly a rose fragrance. I would love to entered into the draw if it’s not too late.

  • Bryant Worley says:

Cynthia made this fragrance sound fantastic. She made this sound like the coziest of gourmand. After she said, “Upon first spray, Memo Siwa envelops you with this same warm, soft BLANKET of solace and riches”, and with the way she laid out the whole ‘blanket’ of notes, I can already feel the heat.

I haven’t tried a Memo…YET!, but the one my nose is REALLY itching to smell is Russian Leather.

I live in Waldorf, Maryland, USA.

  • According to the list of notes for this fragrance, I believe that I would find this fragrance to be enjoyable and fascinating. I haven’t tried anything yet from Memo Paris/Memo Perfume. Cynthia’s description of this fragrance makes it seem enticing, and she also made it seem like it is a “warm” fragrance. I live in MD., U.S.A. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • The ancient city of Siwa looks like it’s coming from George Lucas Star Wars movie, greenness on the pictures looks gorgeous, almost untouched by human hands.
Siwa draws me in , no childish sweetness , iris meets ginger , and other floral surprises ,sandalwood , and incense. I think we have sating the senses semi Mediterranean , semi African floral-woody fragrance , with gourmand facets.
I have samples of Tamarindo, Argentina, African, Italian, Russian Leather, and Sintra. Tamarindo, Argentina and Sintra are my 3 favorites.
    Beautiful giveaway, thank you all

  • Any perfume that smells like a hot cup of something cinnamony AND buttery date cookies sounds like a yes to me 🙂

    From New Hampshire

  • I’ve been to Egypt 4 times, but never visited Siwa Oasis , never knew such unique place even existed.
Siwa, the fragrance is sophisticated floral gourmand , slightly sweet and inviting .Cynthia Is liking it a lot , I have a feeling I’ll enjoy it too.
Don’t have Memo bottle yet, but bunch of samples , Tiger’s Nest and African Leather i like the most.
    Thanks for the draw

  • I’d like to point out something important , before I share my thoughts on Siwa , and Cynthia Hunter review.
Siwa came out in 07′ yes , but the fragrance was changed ~ late 17′ , early 18′ . In its original formulation it contains whiskey, and popcorn as official notes. Cynthia review is spot on, she
actually reviewed the new , I’m about to quote Emmanuelle Varron from the next article I already read, reworked version. Similar, but not the same fragrances especially compared side by side, I’m literally doing it right now, smelling both samples.
Before the changed the fragrance was just as cozy, and intimate, but more buttery, milky, with popcorn and whiskey being supporting players, but still detectable in the background.
Both versions are perfect vanilla fragrances, for those who don’t like more aggressive, and dripping type of vanilla gourmands.
Memo do know how to make Inviting fragrances, and with Siwa they did well.
From Memo Paris i do own Granada , and i’m on my second African Leather bottle , both Alienor Massenet creations
    Thanks a lot
