In our Creative Directors in Perfumery Series, Clara Molloy who founded Memo Paris Fragrances wrote “The name of the brand, Memo, comes from Memory. Olfaction is our most archaic sense. One of the first we explore as human beings. It’s link to our sensations of space and time and I believe, is something that has not been totally discovered by scientists. Perfumes have a strong connection to your soul, to your inner self… A fragrance can reveal you, transform you, it is far more powerful than people usually think”. Mme. Molloy works in collaboration with perfumer Alienor Massenet and has since the brand’s inception in 2006. There are five fragrances in the series Cuir Nomades, which was introduced in 2013, each evoking leathers inspired by travel and place. Irish Leather was the first, homage to Mme. Malloy’s husband and business partner John Molloy, who was born in Ireland. Memo Paris Moroccan Leather is the latest and the sixth in the series, just released for 2018.

Galbanum is a key ingredient in this composition; it was first used most likely by the ancients for green incense in the Middle East, but has been a linchpin note in modern, classic perfumery since the 1930s. Galbanum was an ingredient that fascinated Jacques Guerlain and is a key to the green accords used in Guerlain’s Vol de Nuit and Sous Le Vent in 1932. When used by a master perfumer it can add a punch to leather fragrances without overpowering the composition.
Sr. Contributor Sebastian Jara, a fan of the brand and most recently of Memo Paris African Leather takes us to where the Middle East meets Northern Africa with also of Smelling Great Fragrance reviews the new Moroccan Leather.
