Marc-Antoine Barrois TILIA (Quentin Bisch) 2024 + Flowers from a Distant Star Giveaway

Marc-Antoine Barrois TILIA

Marc-Antoine Barrois TILIA

I had the pleasure of meeting Marc-Antoine Barrois at Bergdorf Goodman at last month’s Exclusive Luncheon in Celebration of TILIA, the sixth perfume from Marc-Antoine Barrois Paris. As with the others, it is a collaboration with Master Perfumer Quentin Bisch of Givaudan. Before  the lunch commenced, someone asked me what I thought the next fragrance trend will be. While a different fragrance note is proclaimed to be trending every other month, for me, it was packaging and sustainability. And wouldn’t you know it, Marc-Antoine Barrois led off the presentation with just that! They looked at me like how did you know? He stated that as of 2019 the plastic from the perfume boxes had been removed and replaced with a self-adhesive hologram label that guarantees the authenticity of the product. In addition to the packaging being reusable, the boxes are sized to accommodate and be entirely recyclable. They have also entrusted the making of the pouches for the mini bottles to the Amitié Partage charity, which supports the professional reintegration of women in very precarious situations.

To visually impart this new direction, the signature gold bottle has a sparkling red bottleneck component. The combination of red, the color of passion, and gold, a hue of luxury. The signature gold bottle has a sparkling red bottleneck component -red, the color of passion, and gold, a hue of luxury. According to Barrois, “The first floral fragrance, TILIA, is also, the name of an imaginary star  in our constellation“.

Marc-Antoine Barrois and Quentin Bisch

Marc-Antoine Barrois TILIA takes a different tact from the rest of the Marc-Antoine Barrois line; it moves from the punchy powerful leathers and delivers a quietly intoxicating floral perfume. TILIA’s seductive aroma doesn’t announce itself, rather, like a flower it fills the air with an alluring aroma drawing you in with its super smooth linden blossom bouquet, enhanced with broom giving a dark almost tobacco honey sweetness (perhaps a little nod to the house’s history of leather) with jasmine sambac making this floral bouquet intoxicating with a whisper of suede and wildness. The linden blossom shimmers with delicate greens giving a little bee-like sting whose hooks draw you closer. TILIA becomes smoother and more powdery with heliotrope, like a cool, silky smoke with gentle almond facets, as a delicious dark honeyed aroma blooms from broom later into the dry down.

Marc-Antoine Barrois TILIA has the effortless elegance that glows with a gentle woody warmth. Quentin Bisch uses ambroxan here is a rather stunning way, not only does it give TILIA a soft seductive feel it also seems to make the floral bouquet have this mysterious edge. Marc-Antoine TILIA feels like you’re being quietly seduced by flowers at night, as the sun goes down and they wrap their intoxicating aromas around you. It is one of my favorite releases this year.

Perfumer Quentin Bisch is a true master in his craft, and Ganymede is my all-time favorite leather fragrance to this day, a true masterpiece that I adore wearing. Seeing Marc-Antoine Barrois move into the direction of a floral fragrance still but having the jasmine sambac still have a hint of suede true to what they have mastered before with that note, and the addition of the honeyed linden blossom just sounds gorgeous. I love the sustainability of the fully recyclable packaging, which is always appreciated as so many houses do not do this still. The touch of the red with the gold is just so elegant. I can imagine what a gorgeous bouquet Tilia is, and I already love it just by my experience in this line so far.

  • Thanks for this interesting article!
It was very informative Hernando’s given info about MAB bottles and boxes concept !!
I liked J WeAreScentient review and very intrigued by linden blossom which shimmers with green, honey notes !
Love Ganymede and would like to win this new beauty.

I fell in love with Encelade from the first spray, then Ganymede followed. Since then I’ve become an unofficial ambassador of the brand- advertised it to anyone who came into my orbit over and over again. I’m obviously curious about Tilia – the linden trees are in bloom in Lisbon, and the air is filled with their scent. I would love to experience TILIA in person.

Marc Antoine Barrois is a house I’ve had on my radar for a while now. Ganymede is their most famous offering but TILIA seems to come right on time for the spring/summer months. I personally love florals on fragrances and this one seems to be a big bouquet of them. Quentin Bisch is also a master when it come to working with flowers so I’m sure this is a beast mode floral fantasy. There haven’t been many florals released this year now that I think about it (lots of cherry fragrances still) so I can see why is is one of J’s favorite releases of the year, it’s not following any trends. Cheers from the USA.

  • John Gahlt says:

I appreciated Hernando’s introduction for its insightful discussion on sustainability in perfume packaging and how Marc-Antoine Barrois is leading the way with eco-friendly initiatives. J WeAreScentient’s review vividly captured the essence of TILIA, highlighting the seamless blend of floral and woody notes that create an intoxicating and elegant fragrance. Both pieces conveyed a deep appreciation for the artistry and innovation behind Marc-Antoine Barrois’s latest creation, making it clear why TILIA stands out in the perfume world.

I’m always so excited to see a new release from this brand. I really love all of their releases and what Quentin Bisch has done with these. I was excited to hear their first floral fragrance will include one of my absolute favorite notes – linden blossom! It was interesting reading this review and learning they are really pushing on sustainability. In this high consumerism age, it’s nice to see brands thinking about the effects of their products. I was lucky to sample Tilia already and it was interesting to compare my thoughts to this review. I completely agree this is a rather elegant fragrance and I also think the abroxan plays an important role in the composition. It does add mystery but I think it also helps make the composition more abstract. Floral notes are also blended pretty well so none of them stood out to me that much compared to the others. Overall, this is another stunning release. A lot different from the others, but it equally shares the abstract strange vibe that well deserves a name based on an imaginary star. I’m from Illinois, US and I’m for sure planning to get a full bottle of Tilia!

  • Hernando’s introduction was very informative! It’s great to see a luxury brand taking the initiative on sustainability in packaging and also supporting the professional reintegration of women in very precarious situations. Brav@s!
J WeareScentient’s review created a captivating picture of the fragrance, specially this part: “TILIA feels like you’re being quietly seduced by flowers at night, as the sun goes down and they wrap their intoxicating aromas around you.” (sic) Wow can’t wait to try it and would love to win!

  • A holographic packaging that assures authenticity is a wonderful idea – particularly with the crop of sellers now that confidently sell fakes in very authentic-seeming packaging. And i also love the move toward sustainability. Linden blossom with a dark honeyed sweetness sounds gorgeous to me. Thanks for the chance – I’m in the USA.

  • Quentin Bisch fan here. I liked the idea of less plastics, if any, in the packaging of fragrances. Personally, I only keep the perfume and discard the rest. The nighttime scent of flowers, particularly the white ones, are intoxicating. Thanks for another wonderful review and draw. Michigan USA

  • I thoroughly enjoyed Hernando’s introduction to Marc-Antoine Barrois TILIA. His insights into the brand’s commitment to sustainability and innovative packaging were enlightening. The description of TILIA’s floral and woody fragrance by J WeAreScentient captivated me, especially the delicate linden blossom and the seductive, powdery heliotrope. This perfume seems like a perfect blend of elegance and mystery. Thanks for the chance to participate in this giveaway!

I love heliotrope! The flowers by night imagery makes me want this more. And I like the way the packaging for the mini bottles is made by a charity for women. Rock on! USA

  • I love J WeareScentient’s description of the broom note in Tilia, and the combination of that honeyed tobacco-like smell with the jasmine sounds amazing. I can’t wait to smell this one. Thanks for the opportunity to win! I’m in MN, USA.

  • I appreciate the information about Armitie Partage, and the perfume house’s commitment to supporting it. I’d love to see more of that in these luxury lines – I think it matters even more than the environmentally thoughtful packaging (thought that’s important too!!). I had read about Tilia before, but never in such lovely detail, and as I am a lover of florals, and on the search for a new “star” to fragrance my world, this sounds amazing! I love that it is described as soft, but with a “mysterious edge”… And the linden trees in my area are about to bloom, and it’s my favorite time of year, and have not yet experienced this note reflected in a fragrance I could wear. Maybe this is the one! Thank you for this generous draw. I live in NH, USA.

  • Well aren’t you very clever knowing what is coming next! I’d love to find out more about this intriguing scent with its bee like sting. In maryland.

  • bread1000000 says:

Marc Antoine Barrois and Quentin Bisch are quickly becoming the fragrance world’s Shaq and Kobe. Each one of their collaborations has been nothing short of amazing and it sounds like Tilia is yet another slam dunk. I love that Hernando discussed the packaging of Tilia, as I found the new red flourish really striking and beautiful.

J WeAreScentient’s review was also lovely, and it helped visualize just how this fragrance comes together. I’m not horribly familiar with broom/linden blossom, but I feel I’ve learned a bit now! Hopefully I’ll get to try this one soon.

The brilliant and sustainable packaging of this fragrance is stunning, a true work of art. The fragrance itself sounds beautifully done and I’m entranced by the broom note. How intriguing. I live in Oregon.

New quiet floral from a leather guy – sign me up! And intoxicating and a favorite release of the year – very intriguing indeed. I appreciate the move to greater sustainability and recycling. Plus and all that, Tilia is a beautiful name. I live in NY.

  • Laurentiu says:

My favorite from this house is Ganymede. I have tried them all and I liked them all, but Ganymede is number one. Looking forward to this new release as I have read great things about it and people seem to be very happy with it. Thanks!

  • I completely agree that packaging and sustainability will be the new trend, great that Marc-Antoine Barrois is on track. The floral bouquet of TILIA – enhanced with broom – seems intoxicating!

  • I always have lot ot time for Marc-Antoine Barrois’ fragrances. My favorite is B683 but I have not tried Tilia yet…
Love the story about Hernando guessing the packaging topic, would have loved to see the face of the other people!
Also I’m very excited by this new floral direction that Marc-Antoine Barrois and Quentin Bisch seem to have been taking here!
Fingers crossed for the draw… 😉

Oh my, this sounds like a yellow-floral heaven! I looove lime blossom in perfumes! Plus my favorite jasmine and orange blossom?! Perfection!
I really enjoyed reading the whole article, but my favorite part is “TILIA’s seductive aroma doesn’t announce itself, rather, like a flower it fills the air with an alluring aroma drawing you in with its super smooth linden blossom bouquet, enhanced with broom giving a dark almost tobacco honey sweetness (perhaps a little nod to the house’s history of leather) with jasmine sambac making this floral bouquet intoxicating with a whisper of suede and wildness.”

  • I actually like Tilia and linden blossom is one of my favorite notes. Unfortunately, there are not many perfumes that feature linden blossom as a center stage note, but Tilia brings forward this note and makes it its star ingredient. And I agree that it exudes effortless elegance and it kinda shimmers as you wear it. Would love to have Tilia in my collection.

I love MAB and bisch perfumes. This sounds warm and woody. I live in Indiana and would love to win!

  • I’m a huge fan of the house, with only Tilia missing from my collection. I find the descriptions similar with my experience when I tried the new release. I think the floral notes are beautifuly crafted, very light and refreshing. Quite addictive overall!

    Greetings from Romania

  • Linden, along with acacia and honeysuckle, is one of my favorite quasi-white floral notes out there. I just love to inhale its pure and sweet aroma as the linden trees blossom at the start of summer. Marc-Antoine Barrois’ Tilia sounds very truthful to the real scent, and the subtle additions of ambroxan, different flowers and gentle woods only enhance the natural charm of the linden scent, I am sure.

  • jlsteckley says:

QB is one of my favorite perfumers and all his MAB scents are dynamite. Can’t wait to smell this one too!

  • tomkleins says:

Reading Hernando‘s review was a pleasure. Hernando comes straight to the point, his writing is seamingly effortless and elegant. Tilia sounds like an interesting contrast to the existing MAB fragrances, would be a pleasure to try it.
My best wishes from Paris, France.
    Tom

  • I’m glad this perfumer is trying to make packaging much more eco friendly and I am excited to try the line’s floral fragrance! Huge fan of Quentin and Ganymede!
I am in the Continental US. Thanks!

  • I would love to win Tilia, I love the scent of linden and floral perfumes in general, but they all have the same problem, they have no staying power or sillage. But I know that all MAB perfumes are powerful thanks to the work of Quentin Bish. I’ve worn Ganymede before, it wasn’t to my taste, but it’s still a masterpiece. Bish has created some very powerful Maison Crivelli fragrances, I’m thinking of Ambre chromatique which I love. So I’m not worried about Tilia’s staying power and sillage. I want Tilia because I prefer flowers to leather. I like when you say: “The linden blossom shimmers with delicate greens giving a little bee-like sting whose hooks draw you closer.”
    I live in France, EU

  • This sounds like such a delicate, floral composition. I adore jasmine in any fragrance.
    I live in the USA.

  • The key point for me in JWeareScentient’s review of TILIA is the feeling that you are being quietly seduced by flowers at night, as the sun goes down and the intoxicating aromas wrap around you. As Hernado mentioned, I appreciate the sustainability built into the packaging of the fragrance. MD, USA.

  • Well I can say that this has been the talk of the town! Everyone has asked me if I’ve tried it yet… and no I haven’t!! I must remedy this. Truly hoping this times the charm. I love the description of a green bite with the linden!! Super intrigued. In California.

  • Shibuichi2000 says:

I always appreciate when crafters (of any kind) take the time to think about the impact the production process has on the environment – MAB is applaudable for his efforts.
I’m only acquainted with Ganymede – knowing it and reading this article makes me think Tilia is not your innocent, simple linden blossom fragrance, this sounds different, mysterious and daring.
    I’m from EU.

  • I’m a huge fan of Ganymede. It was nice to read from Hernando about the direction Marc-Antoine Barrois is going with his line…but the most important thing is that it’s another Quentin Bisch creation. J WeAreScentient makes this sound deliciously different from Bisch’s other work for the brand. I’m very excited to try this! I’m in Oklahoma, USA.

  • David Furman says:

This sounds like a floral overload just in time for the summer. I can only imagine this being airy and sweet through and through. This uses a very unique note breakdown for what has to be complex and alluring. Would love to own, from Jacksonville, NC.

  • TILIA is a perfume in which an infinite beauty is hidden in its apparent simplicity, everything is harmonious and light, the review is full of love towards this fragrance, this means that it conveyed beautiful emotions. I don’t own anything from the brand
    Linda (EU)

  • The information on packaging was really useful, and I absolutely enjoyed the description of the scent, especially about linden flowers. Thank you for the opportunity for EU users, too! 🙂

  • In the times when being more environmentally friendly with our conscious choices, I appreciate how Hernando describes how Marc Antoine Barrois removed plastic from perfume packaging. As the scent of linden is one of my favourite early summer scents, I wonder how it smells from a “leather expert” such as Marc Antoine Barrois.
    I’m in eu

  • Great description, really enjoyed the read. My favorite line was ” TILIA’s seductive aroma doesn’t announce itself, rather, like a flower it fills the air with an alluring aroma drawing you in…” I’m glad this is going in the opposite direction of the rest of the line which can be quite polarizing. I was never quite on the Ganymede train like a lot of people were but I certainly appreciate the composition. I also love that you mentioned it has a soft seductive feel with a mysterious edge, almost like a venus fly trap lures you in. NYC USA

  • I’m always happy to hear when packaging is simplified and improved to be recyclable and less wasteful. I love Linden and broom, and this sounds just lovely. Thank you for the review and the draw. Seattle

  • As a lover of Ganymede, Marc-Antoine Barrois quickly became one of my favorite houses. Tilia sounds like another winner. Described as “effortlessly elegant “ and “stunning” , I expect nothing less from this house.

    Indiana USA

  • The brand did a great job with this new packaging that Hernando highlighted in his intro. Very sleek and elegant, plus it’s always good to move towards recyclable materials.

Barrois TILIA is an interesting combination of airy florals (linden blossom) and darker notes (silky whisps of smoky tobacco and honey). The way J described the “woody warmth” and ambroxan in this fragrance sounds wonderful.

I’m in the USA. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • FragranceIsMe says:

Great article J. As a fan of Marc-Antoine Barrois’ creations (Ganymede, Encelade, and B683), this one has captured my attention with the floral and broom notes. Looking forward to experiencing what this latest creation has to offer with great anticipation.

  • I love how they are really into sustainability and the intro detailed that nicely. Also can’t resist the honeyed tobacco and broom hints given in the review. This sounds wonderful for summer!

  • Hernando’s introduction highlighted Marc-Antoine Barrois’s commitment to sustainability, which I found inspiring. The collaboration with Amitié Partage and the use of reusable, recyclable packaging are commendable. The description of TILIA’s floral and woody notes, especially the linden blossom and ambroxan, painted a vivid picture of an intoxicating and elegant fragrance. Personally, I love perfumes that combine floral and woody elements, as they create a balanced and sophisticated scent. The honeyed sweetness and powdery heliotrope sound particularly captivating, making TILIA a must-try for my wife. From USA

  • zazazelle says:

I am very intrigued by Tilia, I have heard good words from reviewers-women, praising its smooth delicacy. In blind testing they kind of cannot decide – is this perfume from the 90-ies lux cathegory or is ir something innovative with new components. Ftom the review I like this part: “The linden blossom shimmers with delicate greens giving a little bee-like sting whose hooks draw you closer”.
Thank you for the draw, I am from the EU.

  • I love knowing that reduction of plastic and recycling has become a priority as this brand is becoming legendary. As a fan of florals, adding a dark mysterious twist of flowers at night is most intriguing. Sounds like an exciting release that I would love to try. USA.KY
